HEAVY  METAL  VIKING

El meteórico ascenso de los suecos Brothers Of Metal es un hecho innegable, su fórmula llega deprisa al gran público, y a medida que han ido girando por medio planeta el foco de lo próximo que hagan estará sobre ellos seguro, veremos como lidian con esa presión. En este 2024 han decidido mover ficha a través del single "Heavy metal viking", esperemos que preludio de un nuevo trabajo, va siendo el momento ya que desde 2020 no editan nada en dicho formato, imagino que también por las extensas giras y los temas pandémicos, sea como sea hay ya ganas de escuchar un nuevo disco de los suecos, por el momento dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial del nuevo single, "Heavy metal viking".

Canciones para una vida - Manticora - Dragon's Mist

DRAGON'S  MIST 

La escena danesa siempre contribuyó a la escena internacional con bandas de gran calidad, aunque en no pocas ocasiones con menor reconocimiento que otras a pesar de la mencionada calidad, Manticora es un buen ejemplo de ello. Formados en 1997 han desarrollado una carrera bastante homogenea, pero algo escondida, siempre bordeando la línea del power y el sonido progresivo, con 10 LP's de estudio, a fecha de esta reseña, el último de ellos de este 2024, estamos ante un grupo realmente importante en el que uno debería invertir algo de su tiempo para conocer su obra, seguramente si no conoces a la banda te sorprenderá gratamente. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de las canciones de su segundo disco, "Darkness with tales to tell", de 2001, concretamente "Dragon's mist" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Iron Kingdom - A Call To Arms

 

A  CALL  TO  ARMS

Vamos con una banda canadiense que ya lleva unos cuantos años en activo, Iron Kingdom, quienes desde 2011, (antes desde 2004 bajo el nombre de Twisted) llevan proponiendo su sonido claramente de sabor clasico, en una onda de heavy metal, de regusto americano, aunque se pueda encontrar alguna mención compositiva maideniana incluso. Desde ese 2011 en que la banda se reconvierte en Iron Kingdom, cinco LP's de estudio conforman su dicografía a fecha de esta reseña, (2011, 2013, 2015, 2019 y 2022). Hoy quiero irme hasta su tercer LP, "Ride for glory" de 2015, para recuperar uno de sus temas, en este caso el instrumental "maideniano" "A call To Arms" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Timo Tolkki - Ultima Thule

 

ULTIMA  THULE

La verdad es que un poco parecido a lo que me sucede con Luca Turilli en Rhapsody es lo que me sucede con Timo Tolkki y Stratovarius, ambos músicos realizaron una tarea increible en los comienzos de ambas bandas, siendo sin duda alguna fundamentales para levantar los cimientos de tan grandes grupos, sin embargo, cuando sacaban los pies del tiesto, cuando buscaban caminos alternativos en solitario no me hacía tanta gracia, sobre todo al avanzar sus caminos en ese sendero, y creo que es algo aplicable a sus bandas madre, srgún se encontraban con más ego compositivo más iban estropeando lo que les hizo grandes, sin embargo estamos hablando de grandes músicos, y siempre debe uno tomarse la licencia de dar un repaso a su material por si vuelven al redil, y esa sensación tengo con el finlandés Timo Tolkki, que en este 2024 edita esa segunda parte de "Classical variations and themes" cuya primera parte editó hace 30 años. "Ultima Thule", además de dar nombre a la nueva obra es el primero de los adelantos y el motivo de mi esperanza de volver a reencontrarme con este magnífico (por otra parte) guitarrista, además con Jeff Scott Soto a la voz, toda una garantía, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

WINTER  STORM  VIGILANTES

El noveno LP de estudio de los finlandeses Ensiferum está ya a la vista para disfrute de los que les seguimos, será de forma oficial en el mes de octubre, llevando por título "Winter Storm". En los últimos tiempos está claro que la banda ha ido cambiando, cada vez incluyendo más elementos power a sus composiciones, algo que es aún más evidente desde la incorporación del teclista Pekka Montin en 2020, que dejo su sello en su anterior obra "Thalassic" de ese 2020 y que parece continuar adquiriendo protagonismo en este nuevo album a juzgar por el primero de los adelantos del mismo, "Winter storm vigilantes" del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Kalidia - Black Sails

BLACK  SAILS

Normalmente huyo de las bandas con la etiqueta de symphonic power metal con cantante femenina, es demasiado el tema operístico para mí, sin embargo es de justicia buscar al menos entre las muchas bandas que han escogido ese sendero ya que siempre puede encontrarse la excepción que confirme la regla (para mí, por supuesto), y esta banda puede entrar en esos parámetros míos, Kalidia, desde Italia, una banda formada en 2010 y que a fecha de esta reseña ha editado tres LP's de estudio entre 2014 y 2021 a los que añadir su primer material en formato EP en 2012. Se trata de un power sinfónico, como ya he dicho, pero en el apartado vocal encontramos una forma de cantar digamos "normal", sin tesituras opereta, a lo que se le puede añadir un gran trabajo compositivo en lo que a melodías se refiere, un buen ejemplo es este "Black Sails" de su segund LP "The frozen throne" de 2018, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Tanagra - Tyranny Of Time

TYRANNY  OF  TIME

Sigamos conel estilo power con aire progresivo, de la escuela estadounidense, encarnado en la banda Tanagra, un grupo que comenzó su andadura en 2010 pero que también lleva en silencio desde 2019, quizá otro caso en que la pandemia les cortó sus aspiraciones. Su primer trabajo, de los dos que han editado en formato LP a fecha de esta reseña, data de 2015, "None of this is real" al que seguiría en 2019 "Meridiem". Como digo su sonido es una mezcla de estilos, con predominancia del power ciertamente de la escuela americana, aunque con un toque progresivo, aunque algunos momentos de coros lo alejen de ese estilo. Realmente no estamos ante nada nuevo, pero si resulta como mínimo entretenido el sonido de la banda como ocurre por ejemplo en el tema de su debut que hoy dejo en el blog, "Tyranny Of Time", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

THE  EMPEROR

Los griegos Rhodium son una banda de bastante reciente formación (2017), que centran su sonido en un power metal de orientación progresiva. A fecha de esta reseña tan solo han editado dos LP's de estudio (2018 y 2019) y a pesar de llevar ya un lustro de silencio compositivo se supone que siguen en activo, obviamente la maldita pandemia ha podido tener algo que ver en todo esto. Potencial es innegable que tienen para poder plantear una carrera a largo plazo, veremos hasta donde les guian sus pasos futuros, por el momento quiero dejar en el blog uno de los temas que componen su segundo y de momento último LP "Sea of the dead" de 2019 como decía más arriba, concretamente este "The emperor" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Ebonheart - Mesmerized By The Same Moon

MESMERIZED  BY  THE  SAME  MOON

Vamos con otro ejemplo más de banda que, creyendo en si mismos, tras una larga temporada underground desde su formación a comienzos de los 2000,los noruegos Ebonheart editan tan solo un EP en 2002 para mostrar su capacidad, dos décadas de silencio compositivo desembocaron en 2023 en un single que en este 2024 han sido refrendados con cuatro singles más. En ese 2023, hay un cambio en la formación ya que uno de los dos músicos implicados en la creación de la banda, el cantante Daniel Hansen, deja el proyecto quedando solo el guitarrista Lasse Jensen que ficha para el grupo al cantante Jan Thore Grefstad (Saint Deamon), parece el punto de inflexión definitivo para el arranque de la banda en terminos compositivos. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de esos singles de 2024, con un trasfondo progresivo y power dejo el tema "Mesmerized by the same moon" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

DRAGON  EMPIRE

Vamos con otra banda nueva que comienza su carrera como promesa de futuro, ya inmediato, a juzgar por su debut y los singles que van lanzando, son los finlandeses Dragon Throne, cuya carrera comienza en 2019 siendo 2022 el año en que comienzan a editar material de estudio editando su debut y único LP de estudio a fecha de esta reseña, "Dawnbringer". En 2023 editaron dos singles, uno de los cuales "Dragon empire" será el que dejo hoy en el blog. Hasta el 18 de octubre no vera la luz de forma oficial el cuarto LP de estudio de los suecos Tungsten o lo que es lo mismo Anders Johansson e hijos, un proyecto familiar que comenzó hace ya cinco años y que lleva un gran ritmo en lo que a obras publicadas se refiere. Parece que los suecos Eclipse se han acostumbrado ultimamente a mantenerse activos de cara al gran público a través de singles "enlace" entre obra y obra, estamos todos de acuerdo en que en la sociedad actual la continua oferta de opciones unido a la escasa capacidad de mantener la atención en algo mucho tiempo seguido hace que mantenerse visible para una banda y que no se olviden de ellos es fundamental, y Eclipse lleva ya en este 2024 dos singles, aparentemente sin conexión entre si ni preludio de obra nueva, el segundo de ellos con excusa de celebrar la llegada del verano lleva por título "Falling to my knees" y de su clip oficial dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Kissin' Dynamite - The Devil Is A Woman

THE  DEVIL  IS  A  WOMAN

Una vez más en el estrecho filo que separa el heavy metal del hard rock, en este caso con un baño moderno, siempre energico, volvamos a la discografía de los germanos Kissin' Dynamite, que en este 2024 editarán su octavo LP de estudio "Back with a bang" que estará disponible a partir de 5 de julio. El grupo afirma que este es su disco más maduro, directo y en el que se recoje la esperiencial de casi dos décadas en activo. Ya el pasado album "Not the end of the road" tuvo una gran acogida entre el publico y la crítica y este sucesor tiene la dificil misión de al menos mantener el listón igual o elevarlo. Los estadounidenses Ironflame son otra banda que se va asentando, cuya carrera va dando pasos y siempre desde la perspectiva del heavy metal clásico con ese punto speedico, un poco powerizado y con la vocación épica desde la perspectiva del heavy americano. En este 2024 editarán su ya quinto LP de estudio, "kingdom torn asunder", en concreto el 26 de julio, y de él quiero dejar hoy en el blog su adelanto "Soul survivor" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Uriah Heep - The Wizard

THE  WIZARD

De vuelta a los mismos comienzos rescato nuevamente este disco de los británicos Uriah Heep "Demons and wizards" de 1972 para destacar otra de sus importantes canciones, "The Wizard", uno de esos temas inmortales con los que el grupo grabó su primer videoclip. Estamos ante un importante momento para lo que vendría después y bandas como esta fueron clave como cimientos sobre los que construir toda una década como la de los ochenta. Como digo dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube del clip oficial de este "The Wizard", una de esas canciones para una vida.
