SHORT  AS  HELL

No hay duda tanto de la calidad musical de Hansen, como de su versatilidad, capacidad experimentadora o ausencia de miedo para tener ese enfoque desenfadado que al final siempre termina enriqueciendo las obras en que está presente, es uno de esos músicos tocados por el destino para hacer casi lo que desee, y eso es algo que también en el disco "Powerplant" de 1999 con su banda Gamma Ray está presente, por ejemplo en la canción que hoy dejo en el blog, "Short As Hell", donde vemos reminiscencias un tanto fuera de la estructura compositiva normal o esperable, con un toque casi de Metallica, de los de comienzos de los 90 más bien, quedando patente esa mencionada capacidad camaleónica del músico. Canciones para una vida - Gamma Ray - Rebellion In Dreamland

 

REBELLION  IN  DREAMLAND

Lo que en la década de los 90 se tornaba decadencia, horfandad, soledad en solo algunos bastiones inquebrantables dentro del heavy metal de corte clásico, se tornaba crecimiento, diversificación, en otros subgéneros más o menos nuevos, evolucionados de aquel heavy metal primigenio que parecía, (solo parecia) extinguirse, entre otros el power que florecía en multiples escenas, destacando por encima de todas la europea, y dentro de la alemana, Hansen, a quien el subgénero debe y deberá tanto, dirigía con mano metálica su destino a través de obras como "Land of the free" de 1995. Magna obra, completa, enorme en ejecución e inspiración tanto creativa para los que la parieron como creadora para quienes la imitaron, que no serían pocos, un deleite para los iniciados en ese instante y una cantera iniciadora para otros, un brillante espejo que aún destella y destila calidad y que sigue enganchando como por ejemplo a través del impresionante "rebellion in dreamland" que la abre, destapando un tarro de las esencias que no cesa en todo la obra, un tema este "rebellion in dreamland" del que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

GAMMA  RAY  -  LAND  OF  THE  FREE  -  1995

 Tras la traumática para muchos, salida de Kai Hansen de Helloween en el mejor momento de la banda, muchos especulaban y al mismo tiempo esperaban el siguiente paso compositivo del genial guitarrista, y ese paso tuvo un nombre, Gamma Ray, una banda que desde el inicio mismo de su carrera dejo bien claras sus intenciones, el camino a seguir y el peso específico de Hansen dentro de Helloween. Está claro que con el camino que Helloween tomó tras la salida de Hansen, en lo compositivo, Gamma Ray supuso el hogar natural para muchos de los metalheads hechizados por los "Keeper", que habían quedado huérfanos de sonido con "Pink Bubbles go ape". En 1995, Gamma Ray editaba su cuarto LP, "Land of the free", con la banda ya totalmente asentada, Hansen con un nombre ya enorme en el mundillo, y con este LP dando un paso más, en el sentido global de la obra, así como en su crecimiento interno en la banda adoptando además la función de cantante, algo que había hecho ya en Helloween. Además para este gran disco contó con la colaboración de varios músicos, algo que siempre ha sabido explotar muy bien el bueno de Hansen, Así, Sascha Paeth de Heavens Gate, en los teclados, Hansi Kursch a la voz y Michael Kiske en otro tema adornaron más aún la obra. En definitiva, con "Land of the free" estamos ante una obra de esas que se antoja fundamental, en general para el heavy metal y en particular para el power.

CHANGES

 El segundo Lp de Gamma Ray mostraba en 1991 que el camino emprendido por kai Hansen lejos de la banda que le vio nacer como músico reputado iba a ser definitivo, mostrando no solo una continuidad sino además pasos adelante, innovación y crecimiento en lo que prometía ser el refugio para muchos de los seguidores de Helloween que quedaron huerfanos despues de los "Keeper". Al igual que hiciese el bueno de Hansen en Helloween, para la segunda obra de la banda dejó los microfonos para dejar paso a Ralf Scheepers por entonces aún bastante desconocido, centrandose en su trabajo compositivo e interpretativo con las seis cuerdas. "Sigh no more" hablaba del pasado en lo referente al sonido "helloweenero" y del futuro que estaba por venir, y de que manera terminaría por llegar. La obra nos ofrece grandes momentos , otro de ellos es su apertura,"Changes" muy en sintonía con el debut "Heading for tomorrow" de 1990, una canción de la que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Gamma Ray - Anywhere In The Galaxy

 

ANYWHERE  IN  THE  GALAXY

No podía faltar uno de los jefes de esto a su cita con el final de siglo pasado a la hora de editar un disco, me refiero por supuesto a Kai Hansen con sus Gamma Ray y su disco "Power Plant" de 1999, y digo que no podía faltar puesto que la parte final de los 90 del siglo pasado fue sin duda un festival continuo de obras maestras dentro del género del power metal, sobre todo de composición europea, y de ello sabe, y mucho el citado Kai Hansen, prácticamente el padre del subgénero y parte importante de ese nutrido tesoro de LP's memorables de la década con sus Gamma Ray. "Power Plant" pondría el colofón perfecto a ese siglo en un derroche de todas las virtudes compositivas e interpretativas de los alemanes Gamma Ray. El disco es esa demostración de que el señor Hansen sabe lo que se hace y sin duda algún día recibirá toda la importancia que merece, si no lo ha hecho ya. De la obra de 1999 destacar solo un tema es injustisimo, pero hoy quiero hacerlo con el tema que abre la misma, "Anywhere in the galaxy" toda una demostración de power en poco más de seis minutos, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Gamma Ray - Follow Me

FOLLOW  ME

Otro de los temas destacables de este buen disco de Gamma Ray, "No world order", el séptimo de la banda, de 2001, puede ser este "Follow me", aunque creo que para la ocasión los de Kai Hansen se marcaron una obra buena en su conjunto. Con una linea argumental basada en un libro de Mark Brauneis acerca de los "Iluminati" la obra se va desgranando con acierto y contundencia habiendo una cierta vuelta hacia las raíces de la banda. Aquí nos encontramos igualmente ante un Kai Hansen perfecto en funciones vocales con una interpretación genial muy acorde a su linea. Como digo recomendable de principio a fin demostrando que por esos años eran de las bandas que encabezaban la ola power internacional, sin duda. Volviendo al tema "Follow me", una canción que con el apoyo de los teclados entra como un tiro en tu cerebro desde la primera escucha y ese inconfundible sello Gamma Ray hace que sea un tema 100% recomendable, un tanto "Freedom Call" si se quiere. Canciones para una vida - Gamma Ray - Beyond The Black Hole

BEYOND THE BLACK HOLE

Quinto larga duración de los chicos de Kai Hansen, del año 1997, este "Somewhere out in space" es todo un discazo. Para esta obra hubo ciertos cambios en la banda, así pasa a formar parte de ella Henjo Richter, en el puesto de guitarrista, quien permanece hasta hoy en día en ella y Dan Zimmermann, a la batería, que en ella estuvo hasta 2012. Como dato curioso, encontramos una canción en el disco "Watcher in the sky", escrita para "Iron Savior", a medias entre Kai Hansen y Piet Sielk, (alma mater de esa banda), y para el que conozca un poco la historia del heavy sabrá que Sielk fue integrante de los incipientes "Helloween", allá por los comienzos de los 80, motivo por el que Hansen Y Sielk mantienen tan buena relación. El dato curioso al que me refería es que esa canción aparece en este disco de Gamma Ray así como en el primer LP de Iron Savior, rara demostración de amistad "inter-bandas", que habla de esa amistad que une a ambos músicos alemanes. Este tema aparece aquí con las voces adicionales de Sielk y a la batería nada menos que Thomen Stauch, Ex de Blind Guardian. Además, el tema "No Stranger (Another Day In Life)", fue también compuesto para otro ex miembro de los Helloween iniciales, para el disco en solitario de Michael kiske, contribución del genial guitarrista para Kiske que este, tan gran vocalista como incompresiblemente "rancio y moñas" rechazó, alegando que era "demasiado heavy", por lo que Hansen decidió grabarlo para este disco "Somewhere out in space". Volviendo al disco, es muy completo y con grandes canciones, alguna de las cuales ya he dejado en el blog y hoy quiero hacerlo con este "Beyond the black hole", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

HEAVEN CAN WAIT

Cuando kai Hansen salió de Helloween en 1989, formó este grupo, Gamma Ray, sin en principio grandes pretensiones, y tras haber pasado un tiempo haciendo colaboraciones con otras bandas como Blind Guardian. Es en ese mismo 1989 cuando decide formar Gamma Ray, junto a otros músicos como Ralf Scheepers, hasta entonces vocalista de Tyran Pace. En 1990 editan su primera obra de estudio que es inmediatamente un rotundo éxito, como no podía ser de otra manera pues estamos ante uno de los "Reyes Midas" en esto del Heavy que parecen convertir en oro todo lo que tocan. Desde entonces y hasta la fecha de esta reseña 11 discos de estudio y 3 EP's hablan de un grupo consolidado en lo más alto de la cima metálica. Hoy quiero hablar en el blog del disco que inició la carrera de esta banda, "Heading for Tomorrow", de 1990, y es que, cuando Hansen dejó Helloween, aún nadie tenía exactamente claro el impacto real que aquello tendría en la banda alemana, algo que la historia se ha encargado de mostrar, ya que fue sin duda el comienzo del fin de los Helloween de los "Keeper", y el comienzo de la evolución de la banda en otra dirección, hacia abajo en principio, y con un bandazo enorme tras la salida de Kiske y la entrada de Deris, aunque hacia arriba de nuevo, pero siendo un grupo diferente ya. Cuando escuchamos esta obra a la que hoy quiero referirme en el blog, el primer disco de Gamma Ray, no podemos sino ver en muchas ocasiones destellos musicales similares a los "Keeper", y tras escuchar el "Pink bubbles go ape" de Helloween, sucesor de los citados "Keeper", nos damos cuenta de lo trágico de esta separación, ya que si sumasemos los elementos de ambos discos, el resultado compositivo se habría aproximado más a un digno sucesor a los irrepetibles discos de "las siete llaves", de lo que fue el "Pink Bubbles go ape", disco con demasiada presencia compositiva de Kiske, (un músico que como en alguna ocasión ya he dicho me encanta como interprete pero para nada como compositor), lo que se nota en el resultado final, aunque sea un disco con sus virtudes que algún día analizaremos en este blog. Volviendo al "Heading for tomorrow" que hoy nos ocupa, esta primera obra de Gamma Ray, es excelente, un gran disco de principio a fin, en él queda demostrado quien de las partes de los separados Helloween se quedo con el talento y quien con el nombre. Los temas a escoger, todos, esto hizó que su nombre, Gamma Ray creciera desde el principio y su reputación como músico se mantuviera intacta tras su salida de su anterior banda. Hoy quiero dejar otra canción de este disco, en concreto "Heaven can wait", un tema con enorme filo, muy "single" si se quiere, y del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

TRIBUTE TO THE PAST

Ya he hablado de Gamma Ray en el blog y tendré que seguir haciéndolo puesto que su música es muy importante en nuestro género musical. Igualmente me he referido ya a esta buena obra, "Insanity and genious". Cuando kai Hansen salio de Helloween en 1989, formó este grupo, sin en principio grandes pretensiones, y tras haber pasado un tiempo haciendo colaboraciones con otras bandas como Blind Guardian. Es en ese mismo 1989 cuando decide formar Gamma Ray, junto a otros músicos como Ralf Scheepers, hasta entonces vocalista de Tyran Pace. En 1990 editan su primera obra de estudio que es inmediatamente un rotundo éxito, como no podía ser de otra manera pues estamos ante uno de los "reyes Midas" en esto del Heavy que parecen convertir en oro todo lo que tocan. Desde entonces y hasta la fecha de esta reseña 11 discos de estudio y 3 EP's hablan de un grupo consolidado en lo más alto de la cima metálica. Este es el tercer disco de Gamma Ray, y el último en el que cantaría Ralf Scheepers antes de su salida por supuestamente problemas derivados de la distancia entre su lugar de residencia y el de la banda, y compatibilizar vida personal con vida laboral. Tras su salida de Gamma Ray Ralf Scheepers hizo una infructuosa audición para Judas Priest, (curioso, será por calidad del vocalista...), y en 1998 forma Primal Fear con ex miembros de Sinner. En lo referente a este disco de Gamma Ray, "Insanity and Genius" es un buen disco en conjunto, en el que se van perfilando definitivamente las características de un Gamma Ray más asentado y cada vez más colocado entre los grandes del power metal internacional. Dejo otra canción que me gusta mucho de este disco de 1993, que se llama "Tribute to the past", energía made in Gamma Ray en estado puro de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Cuando kai Hansen salio de Helloween en 1989, formó este grupo, sin en principio grandes pretensiones, y tras haber pasado un tiempo haciendo colaboraciones con otras bandas como Blind Guardian. Es en ese mismo 1989 cuando decide formar Gamma Ray, junto a otros músicos como Ralf Scheepers, hasta entonces vocalista de Tyran Pace. En 1990 editan su primera obra de estudio que es inmediatamente un rotundo éxito, como no podía ser de otra manera pues estamos ante uno de los "reyes Midas" en esto del Heavy que parecen convertir en oro todo lo que tocan. Desde entonces y hasta la fecha de esta reseña 11 discos de estudio y 3 EP's hablan de un grupo consolidado en lo más alto de la cima metálica. Tras el "Land  of the free" de 1995, su cuarta obra de estudio, Kai Hansen se haría con las funciones de vocalista, al igual que lo hiciera ya antes en Helloween en sus inicios, tras la salida de Gamma Ray de Ralf Scheepers en 1994 por supuestas razones logísticas de la banda. Hoy quiero hablar de una secuela de aquel cuarto exitoso disco de Gamma Ray, que evidentemente titularon "Land of the free II", en 2007, y que también evidentemente no llegó a la extraordinaria calidad de la de 1995, aunque eso si, el buen diseño de marketing que hicieron unido a la calidad no ausente de la obra les hizo alcanzar por ejemplo en número 1 en las listas de ventas alemanas, entre otros motivos por la gira que realizaron junto a Helloween en el tour de presentación del disco en al que terminaban tocando ambas bandas juntas. En cuanto a las canciones, buenos temas componen este disco, aunque a mi entender el nombre de "Land of the Free II" le queda un poco grande, si bien canciones como "Opportunity", "Into the storm", "when the world" o "Real World" dejan clara la calidad de la obra. Quiero hoy dejar un enlace a youtube de su canción "Opportunity", un tema que engaña en su inicio con la promesa de ser una "power ballad" marca de la casa Gamma Ray, para en realidad tornarse con el paso de unos segundos en un tema más contundente, un par de pasos más adelante de lo que llamaríamos un medio tiempo, y en todo caso una canción que a mi personalmente me gusta mucho.

Canciones para una vida - Gamma Ray - To The Metal

TO THE METAL

Penúltimo disco de estudio de la banda de Kai Hansen a fecha de esta reseña, "To the metal", de 2010, un disco escrito con la misión de recuperar el buen nombre del grupo tras un par de disco recibidos por crítica y público más fríamente de los que el buen guitarrista alemán y sus chicos estaban acostumbrados, acusados de falta de creatividad al copiarse a sí mismos. La verdad es que sus anteriores obras, "Majestic" de 2005 y "Land of the free II" no pasarán a la historia como sus mayores logros musicales, aunque de ahí a decir que son malas obras hay un paso demasiado grande para que yo por ejemplo lo dé hablando de una leyenda viva de esto del heavy metal como es el señor Kai Hansen. La verdad, y lo que parece un hecho bastante objetivo es que en este "To the metal" hay una cierta vuelta a un sonido más esperado y esperable de Hansen, con un cierto mayor grado de creatividad plasmado en una mayor variedad en el sonido de su obra, algo que en cierta medida a seguido en su posterior obra "Empire of the undead", de 2014. El enfoque más variado y acertado de "To the metal" les ha reconciliado con la crítica en cierta medida, sin llegar a ser desde luego su mejor disco si que deja en su conjunto un mejor sabor de boca con varios temas destinados desde que fueron paridos a ser coreados en directo por los viejos fans y por los nuevos. Se puede encontrar incluso algún toque atmósferico progresivo en alguno de sus temas. Como no la "polémica" ha seguido una vez más a la banda con el tema "To the metal" que da título al disco, un tema en el que se ha acusado a Hansen de haber plagiado el "Metal Gods" de Judas Priest, y evidentemente hay un aire, aunque puede que Hansen sea uno de esos músicos mirados con lupa y del que todo el mundo crea tener derecho a dejar una opinión, una teoría o una crítica, en fin, sea como fuere se trata de una gran canción, y precisamente quiero dejar hoy en el blog ese tema, del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Gamma Ray - The Heart Of The Unicorn

THE HEART OF THE UNICORN

Séptimo larga duración de los chicos de Kai Hansen, "No world order", del año 2001, un disco que llega tras un periodod de actividad muy intenso, tanto de la banda como de su motor principal Kai Hansen, ya que, en el año 2000, el grupo decide sacar un recopilatorio, "Blast form the past", pero con la particularidad, y es que pide a sus fans que voten a través de su web tres temas predilectos de cada disco hasta ese momento, votaciones que servirán para escoger los temas que irán en el doble recopilatorio y que la banda regrabará para la ocasión, todo un puntazo. Además por entonces Kai Hansen estaba ocupado con su proyecto paralelo "Iron Savior" y colaborando en los dos primeros trabajos de Avantasia, nada menos, pero aún así le dio tiempo a componer y grabar esta obra de Gamma Ray, "No world order" y una gira posterior de presentación de la misma que llevó a Gamma Ray a recorrer medio mundo, incluido Japón, y es que todo lo que se diga de est "Rey Midas" del heavy llamado Kai Hansen es poco. Volviendo al disco, quiero hoy dejar un tema de los muchos destacables de esta obra, en concreto su "Heart of the unicorn", tema directo y prototípico de Gamma Ray, del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Gamma Ray - Valley Of The Kings

VALLEY OF THE KINGS

Quinto larga duración de los chicos de Kai Hansen, del año 1997, este "Somewhere out in space" es todo un discazo. Para esta obra hubo ciertos cambios en la banda, así pasa a formar parte de ella Henjo Richter, en el puesto de guitarrista, quien permanece hasta hoy en día en ella y Dan Zimmermann, a la batería, que en ella estuvo hasta 2012. Como dato curioso, encontramos una canción en el disco "Watcher in the sky", escrita para "Iron Savior", a medias entre Kai Hansen y Piet Sielk, (alma mater de esa banda), y para el que conozca un poco la historia del heavy sabrá que Sielk fue integrante de los incipientes "Helloween", allá por los comienzos de los 80, motivo por el que Hansen Y Sielk mantienen tan buena relación. El dato curioso al que me refería es que esa canción aparece en este disco de Gamma Ray así como en el primer LP de Iron Savior, rara demostración de amistad "inter-bandas", que habla de esa amistad que une a ambos músicos alemanes. Este tema aparece aquí con las voces adicionales de Sielk y a la batería nada menos que Thomen Stauch, Ex de Blind Guardian. Además, el tema "No Stranger (Another Day In Life)", fue también compuesto para otro ex miembro de los Helloween iniciales, para el disco en solitario de Michael kiske, contribución del genial guitarrista para Kiske que este, tan gran vocalista como incompresiblemente "rancio y moñas" rechazó, alegando que era "demasiado heavy", por lo que Hansen decidió grabarlo para este disco "Somewhere out in space". Volviendo al disco, es muy completo y con grandes canciones, como su single "Valley of the kings", un tema ya fundamental de los alemanes del que quiero dejar hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Gamma Ray - Avalon

AVALON

Última de la obras de estos alemanes hasta la fecha de esta reseña, se trata de su "Empire of the undead", editada en 2014. Se trata de su undécima obra de estudio. No hablaré de nuevo de la historia de esta genial banda pues ya lo hemos hecho en anteriores entradas en este blog. Centrándonos en la obra, según el propio Kai Hansen, su sonido es un poco más "Thrasy" que su anterior larga duración "To the metal" del año 2010, buen disco del que hablaremos en este blog en otra ocasión. En general, en este "Empire of the undead" nos encontramos con una obra muy en la línea de Gamma Ray, sin grandes sorpresas. Sus cifras de ventas han hecho que hayan alcanzado en las listas de ventas finlandesas el puesto 12, el 13 en las alemanas y otras situaciones similares en otras naciones europeas. En este álbum, Gamma Ray cuentan con el batería Dirk Schlachter, quien sustituye a Dan Zimmerman que abandona la banda en 2012. Quiero dejar hoy en el blog una de las canciones que más me han llamado la atención de este álbum, la larga "Avalon", de más de 9 minutos, un tema que sin embargo no se hace demasiado largo ni pesado por los cambios que tiene a lo largo de su ejecución, y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

SPACE EATER

Cuando kai Hansen salió de Helloween en 1989, formó este grupo, Gamma Ray, sin en principio grandes pretensiones, y tras haber pasado un tiempo haciendo colaboraciones con otras bandas como Blind Guardian. Es en ese mismo 1989 cuando decide formar Gamma Ray, junto a otros músicos como Ralf Scheepers, hasta entonces vocalista de Tyran Pace. En 1990 editan su primera obra de estudio que es inmediatamente un rotundo éxito, como no podía ser de otra manera pues estamos ante uno de los "Reyes Midas" en esto del Heavy que parecen convertir en oro todo lo que tocan. Desde entonces y hasta la fecha de esta reseña 11 discos de estudio y 3 EP's hablan de un grupo consolidado en lo más alto de la cima metálica. Hoy quiero hablar en el blog del disco que inició la carrera de esta banda, "Heading for Tomorrow", de 1990, y es que, cuando Hansen dejó Helloween, aún nadie tenía exactamente claro el impacto real que aquello tendría en la banda alemana, algo que la historia se ha encargado de mostrar, ya que fue sin duda el comienzo del fin de los Helloween de los "Keeper", y el comienzo de la evolución de la banda en otra dirección, hacia abajo en principio, y con un bandazo enorme tras la salida de Kiske y la entrada de Deris, aunque hacia arriba de nuevo, pero siendo un grupo diferente ya. Cuando escuchamos esta obra a la que hoy quiero referirme en el blog, el primer disco de Gamma Ray, no podemos sino ver en muchas ocasiones destellos musicales similares a los "Keeper", y tras escuchar el "Pink bubbles go ape" de Helloween, sucesor de los citados "Keeper", nos damos cuenta de lo trágico de esta separación, ya que si sumasemos los elementos de ambos discos, el resultado compositivo se habría aproximado más a un digno sucesor a los irrepetibles discos de "las siete llaves", de lo que fue el "Pink Bubbles go ape", disco con demasiada presencia compositiva de Kiske, (un músico que como en alguna ocasión ya he dicho me encanta como interprete pero para nada como compositor), lo que se nota en el resultado final, aunque sea un disco con sus virtudes que algún día analizaremos en este blog. Volviendo al "Heading for tomorrow" que hoy nos ocupa, esta primera obra de Gamma Ray, es excelente, un gran disco de principio a fin, en él queda demostrado quien de las partes de los separados Helloween se quedo con el talento y quien con el nombre. Los temas a escoger, todos, esto hizó que su nombre, Gamma Ray creciera desde el principio y su reputación como músico se mantuviera intacta tras su salida de su anterior banda. Hoy quiero dejar una canción de este disco, en concreto "Space Eater", un tema muy "Hansen" y también muy "Helloween", que pudiese haber formado tranquilamente parte de un "Keeper of the seven keys 3", un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su videoclip.

 ONE WITH THE WORLD

Otro de los discos de Gamma Ray en nuestro blog, su "Sigh no more", segunda obra, de 1991. Cuando kai Hansen salió de Helloween en 1989, formó este grupo, sin en principio grandes pretensiones, y tras haber pasado un tiempo haciendo colaboraciones con otras bandas como Blind Guardian. Es en ese mismo 1989 cuando decide formar Gamma Ray, junto a otros músicos como Ralf Scheepers, hasta entonces vocalista de Tyran Pace. En 1990 editan su primera obra de estudio que es inmediatamente un rotundo éxito, como no podía ser de otra manera pues estamos ante uno de los "Reyes Midas" en esto del Heavy que parecen convertir en oro todo lo que tocan. Desde entonces y hasta la fecha de esta reseña 11 discos de estudio y 3 EP's hablan de un grupo consolidado en lo más alto de la cima metálica. El disco que hoy nos ocupa, este "Sigh no more", de 1991, es como decía la segunda obra de la banda y también la segunda, de las tres en las que Ralf Scheepers cantaría en Gamma Ray, antes de su partida por supuestamente problemas derivados de la distancia entre su lugar de residencia y el de la banda, y compatibilizar vida personal con vida laboral. Tras su salida de Gamma Ray, Ralf Scheepers hizo una infructuosa audición para Judas Priest, (curioso, será por calidad del vocalista...), y en 1998 forma Primal Fear con ex miembros de "Sinner". Volviendo al "Sigh no more", nos encontramos con un digno sucesor de su magnífico debut "Heading for tomorrow", y a pesar de haberse tenido que enfrentar a la salida del grupo de dos de sus miembros, bajista y batería, que serían sustituidos por dos miembros de la banda alemana "Anesthesia" la banda no sufrió mayores problemas para crear su tercer disco "Insanity and genius", ya en 1993. Canciones para una vida - Gamma Ray - 18 Years

18 YEARS

Ya hemos hablado de Gamma Ray en nuestro blog y tendremos que seguir haciendolo puesto que su música es muy importante en nuestro género musical. Cuando kai Hansen salio de Helloween en 1989, formó este grupo, sin en principio grandes pretensiones, y tras haber pasado un tiempo haciendo colaboraciones con otras bandas como Blind Guardian. Es en ese mismo 1989 cuando decide formar Gamma Ray, junto a otros músicos como Ralf Scheepers, hasta entonces vocalista de Tyran Pace. En 1990 editan su primera obra de estudio que es inmediatamente un rotundo éxito, como no podía ser de otra manera pues estamos ante uno de los "reyes Midas" en esto del Heavy que parecen convertir en oro todo lo que tocan. Desde entonces y hasta la fecha de esta reseña 11 discos de estudio y 3 EP's hablan de un grupo consolidado en lo más alto de la cima metálica. Este es el tercer disco de Gamma Ray, y el último en el que cantaría Ralf Scheepers antes de su salida por supuestamente problemas derivados de la distancia entre su lugar de residencia y el de la banda, y compatibilizar vida personal con vida laboral. Tras su salida de Gamma Ray Ralf Scheepers hizo una infructuosa audición para Judas Priest, (curioso, será por calidad del vocalista...), y en 1998 forma Primal Fear con ex miembros de Sinner. En lo referente a este disco de Gamma Ray, "Insanity and Genius" es un buen disco en conjunto, en el que se van perfilando definitivamente las características de un Gamma Ray más asentado y cada vez más colocado entre los grandes del power metal internacional. Dejo una canción que me gusta mucho de este disco de 1993, que se llama "18 Years", que es uno de esos medios tiempos con fuerza típicos de Gamma Ray. Dejo un enlace a youtube.
