Hablando de pioneros, siempre hay que tener en cuenta a Heavy Load, que recientemente se han vuelto a juntar para editar material nuevo. Pioneros en su escena natal, la sueca, en el estilo en general, ese heavy épico que comenzaron antes que los enormes nombres que después popularizarían el subgénero, así pues una banda a tener en cuenta desde lo histórico y desde lo estrictamente compositivo. Formados en 1976 editan su primer LP en 1978, "Full speed at high level" del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de sus canciones, concretamente "Midnight Crawler" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

RIDE  THE  NIGHT

Cuarenta años sin sacar un disco nuevo, cuarenta, y los suecos "Heavy Load" nos sorprenden con su cuarta obra de estudio "Riders of the ancient storm". Imagino que mucha gente no conocerá a la banda, solo los que se hayan interesado por las raices del heavy metal sabrán del calibre de grupo que tenemos entre las manos. Sus tres obras iniciales se desarrollan a comienzos de los ochenta, ellos fueron pioneros de la vieja escuela, y además lo fueron en una escena tan alucinante como la sueca. Heavy metal épico, de tematica nórdica, del genuino, honesto, y siguiendo con la tradición de muchas de aquellas bandas, de una carrera breve, demasiado para su calidad. En 1983 tras su tercer disco "Stronger than evil" dejaron de editar música para oficialmente separarse acomienzos de los 90. Esta nueva obra, después de escucharla, la verdad es que me ha parecido algo diferente a lo que esperaba de antemano, su estilo es diferente, solo eso, a mí personalmente me gusta más su material previo, pero desde luego dan muestra de su calidad innegable. Para aquellos que conozcan a la banda aconsejo tomarse la obra con los ojos de unos músicos que son cuatro décadas más veteranos, sin duda la evolución que habrían ido dando a lo largo de una carrera constante habría sido más progresiva, para los que no conozcan a la banda, que les den la oportunidad a los discos de sus inicios, y siempre teniendo en cuenta la distinta producción de la época. En definitiva dejo en el blog la canción que más me ha gustado de esta nueva obra, la más fiel a sus inicios en mi opinión, "Ride the night" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

SINGING  SWORDS

Además de la utilidad de caracter digamos "académico" de rebuscar en las raices de nuestro sonido, está el gustazo puramente musical de disfrutar de las ideas primigénias que muchas bandas, injustamente olvidadas llevaban a la práctica, abriendo sendas luego muy transitadas, en lo que fue el nacimiento del heavy metal original. Muchas escenas, presididas por supuesto por la británica o la americana, pero sin dejar de lado otras, que ya en aquellos años eran enormemente productivas, como por ejemplo la sueca que hoy nos ocupa, y en aquellos años, en la citada escena, bandas como Heavy load, ponían su granito de arena, abrian horizontes épicos, que no llegaban siempre a todos los oidos que deberían, y de haberlo hecho así, otro gallo les hubiera cantado, sin duda, ya que calidad, energía, originalidad, e ilusión tenían para haber alcanzado mayores cotas de popularidad. Hoy traigo otro enorme ejemplo de su buen hacer, su tercer LP de estudio, "Stronger than evil" de 1983, ya el tercero en el 83, eso da otro punto claro de espíritu pionero. De este gran disco dejo hoy como ejemplo su tema "Singing Swords", muchos de sus rasgos se muestran aquí, una canción de la que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube. Merece siempre la pena meter la nariz en la historia, siempre ayuda a entenderlo todo desde una perspectiva más completa, y justa, también en la música.

DARK  NIGHTS

Hablar de los pioneros del heavy metal es siempre algo importante como hecho en si mismo, pero a ello se le puede dar una mayor magnitud si le añadimos el detalle de serlo en una de las mayores escenas metálicas históricamente hablando, tanto en lo que a calidad como a cantidad se refiere, como es el caso de la escena sueca. Heavy Load es una de esas bandas que pueden presumir de abrir camino en Suecia en lo que al heavy metal se refiere. Formados en 1976 estuvieron activos realmente hasta 1983 aunque desde 2017 se supome que se han reactivado sin frutos compositivos nuevos de momento. En ese primer periodo de actividad editan 3 LP's de estudio más un EP. Estamos hablando por época de heavy metal sin adornos, muy de los inicios, muy de la vieja escuela, por lo tanto y sobre todo honesto. Hoy quiero dejar otro de los temas de su EP "Metal conquest" de 1981, en concreto "Dark Nights", canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Heavy Load - Heavy Metal Angels (In Metal And Leather)

HEAVY  METAL  ANGELS  (IN  METAL AND  LEATHER)

Siguiendo con la ya costumbre de resucitar bandas míticas, (conocidas o no tanto), de la dorada década de los ochenta, hoy quiero traer al blog a Heavy Load, un grupo del que ya hablé hace un tiempo y del que hoy quería dejar otro de los temas que más me gustan de ellos. Como ya dije anteriormente de estos chicos, esta banda sueca que tuvo su periodo de actividad desde finales de los años 70 hasta mediados - finales de los 80 cuya música era un heavy de corte clásico con temáticas vikingas, un tanto adelantados a su época. La banda la forma un trio de músicos en 1976, los hermanos Wahlquist, Ragen como guitarrista y cantante y Styrbjorn como batería y también cantante, junto con el bajista Michael Backlund. En 1978 editan su primer larga duración, "Full speed at high level", bajo el sello "Heavy sound Records", sello que curiosamente declaró la bancarrota lo que impulsó a los hermanos  Wahlquist crear el suyo propio, "Thunderload Records", bajo el que editaron el resto de su discografía. En total editaron 3 LP's el último de los cuales lo realizan en 1983, "Stronger than evil", y un EP, "Metal Conquest". Además, y antes de su separación definitiva en 1987, se juntaron con el ex bajista del UFP, Paul Gray y el guitarrista Patrick Karlsson para grabar una nueva obra, que nunca llego a editarse. El tema que hoy quiero dejar en el blog, "Heavy metal angels (in metal and leather)" se extrae de su segundo LP "Death or glory", de 1982, todo uno de esos temazos que le hacen a uno preguntarse como es que no llegaron a ser más conocidos, en fin, como en tantas otras ocasiones los caminos metálicos son también inescrutables. HEATHENS FROM THE NORTH

Heavy Load fue una banda sueca que tuvo su periodo de actividad desde finales de los años 70 hasta mediados - finales de los 80. Su música era un heavy de corte clásico con temáticas vikingas. La banda la forma un trio de músicos en 1976, los hermanos Wahlquist, Ragen como guitarrista y cantante y Styrbjorn como batería y también cantante, junto con el bajista Michael Backlund.
