MACHINE

Viral es una banda sueca, otra banda incipiente, más que nada en lo que se refiere a su creación de obras, ya que en activo llevan ya desde 2012 aunque solo un LP de estudio en 2021, es toda su discografía a fecha de esta reseña. Se trata de un heavy metal de sabor clásico, crudete, un tanto alejado de lo que podría esperarse de este siglo y esa escena, sin embargo y que no se me entienda mal, ese sabor de autenticidad, de clásico es para muchos un valor extra, yo incluido, un grupo más, de momento sin apoyo discográfico que parece fiel a lo que les gusta lo que puede dificultarles explotar a nivel internacional. Canciones para una vida - Elfsong - North Sea Adventures

NORTH  SEA  ADVENTURES 

Los húngaros Elfsong son una de esas bandas que han ido haciendo las cosas muy bien desde que comenzaron su carrera allá por 2010, pero que han visto claramente limitado su crecimiento internacional a causa de grabar sus obras en su lengua natal, ya que atendiendo estrictamente a lo compositivo si hubieran cantado en inglés desde el principio su repercusión habría alcanzado cotas mucho mayores atendiendo a su calidad. Cuatro LP's de estudio en estas condiciones les han hecho plantearse esta posibilidad y en 2021 editan una especie de recopilatorio con sus temas mejores cantados en inglés, "Quintessence" lleva por título, seguido en 2023 por la segunda entrega, "Quintessence II". De ese primer recopilatorio quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus temas, "North sea adventures", originalmente compuesto en húngaro para su segundo LP de 2013 "Északi tengeri kalandok", y del que dejo un enlace a youtube (de la versión en inglés).

Canciones para una vida - Fierce Deity - A Ballad Of Heartbreak And Despair

 

A  BALLAD  OF  HEARTBREAK  AND  DESPAIR

Como sucedía con la anterior entrada del blog, este grupo Fierce Deity es una de esas bandas compuestas por un solo músico, en este caso el australiano Jonathan Barwick, quien enmarcando su sonido en un heavy metal con aire doom comenzo en 2019 a editar material en formato single, material que después recopilaría en un par de EP's y un recopilatorio como tal, culminando su discografía de momento con un LP en este 2024, así pues de momento estamos ante el inicio de una carrera que va mostrando cosas realmente interesantes. Canciones para una vida - Maestitium - Song Of The Freezing Wind

SONG  OF  THE  FREEZING  WIND

Los suecos Maestitium, o lo que es lo mismo Elias Westrin, el hombre tras la banda, pues estamos ante una de esas bandas de un solo hombre que se encarga de absolutamente todo, editó su primer material de estudio en formato EP el pasado 2021 y he de decir que me dejó un gratísimo sabor de boca y desde entonces sigo con impaciencia su siguiente paso al frente, esperemos que pronto y que sea además en formato LP. Hablamos de death melódico, con la calidad compositiva e interpretativa como objetivo, un cierto aire épico, nórdico, como no podía ser de otra manera. El citado EP, que lleva por título "Tale of the endless" cuenta solo con cinco temas que se antojan pocos, de ahí el deseo de que edite algo más sobre todo si sigue la línea de lo que ya ha publicado. Canciones para una vida - Hooves Of Steel - Vargavinter + Winter Storm

VARGAVINTER  +  WINTER  STORM

Otra banda más en sus primeros pasos, el grupo sueco - holandés "Hooves of steel", en clave de power completamente con rasgos compositivos europeos, y con muchos de los clichés típicos del género incluyendo las letras de fantasía, con algunos añadidos como alguna pincelada death en lo vocal, una sección de percusión contundente, les da una cierta versatilidad que permite vislumbrar un futuro prometedor. Formados en 2020, hasta la fecha de esta reseña han editado tan solo un par de EP's, en 2020 y 2021, el segundo de ellos de título "Winter storm" es del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de sus canciones, la que da nombre a la obra más la intro inicial, un inicio de disco del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Silent Winter - Dragon Dance

 

DRAGON  DANCE

Vamos ahora con la banda griega "Silent Winter", (los griegos, hay alguna banda más que lo han intentado bajo este nombre). La escena griega una vez más con su super explosión de bandas reseñables. En este caso el grupo tuvo una época inicial, en la que no salieron de unas demos entre 1995 y 2001, para retomar su actividad desde 2018 en adelante desde cuyo regreso han editado un EP inicial en 2018 seguido de dos LP's en el 19 y 21. Hablamos de power metal con un toque progresivo, y un trabajo que permite destacar al vocalista de buenas facultades y cuya forma de cantar a mi personalmente me recuerda a Henning Basse de Metalium, coros épicos, muchos elementos para al menos asomarse a la propuesta de esta banda que busca una segunda oportunidad y camino lleva de aprovecharla, veremos. Los suizos "Morgarten" son un grupo de folk metal en su vertiente oscura, black death melódico con el ingrediente épico, de ese que se refleja por ejemplo a través de coros y melodías. Son así mismo uno de esos grupos que han decidido tomarse su carrera con parsimonia, demasiada, ya que desde su formación en 2005 solo dos LP's conforman su discografía, el último de ellos de 2021, y el primero de 2015. desde luego han pasado bastante desapercibidos, pero si  tienen el suficiente interés como para dedicarles algo de tiempo para investigar sus obras, y de la segunda de ellas, "Cry of the lost" quiero hoy dejar uno de sus temas en el blog, "To Victory" con la que la abren, con los citados coros, tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

HAG  OCH  MINNE

El retorno compositivo de los suecos "Thyrfing" no ha podido ser más acertado, encontrando el oyente una versión quizá más melancólica de la banda, con atmósferas épicas, oscuras, llenas de potente melodía que le transportan a uno muy lejos. Desde 2013 no habían editado nada nuevo y ya me temía que no fuesemos a disfrutar de otras obras de la banda, pero su octavo LP, "Vanagandr" de 2021 ha dejado claro que la banda tiene aún mucho que decir. Otra de esas canciones que ilustran perfectamente lo dicho es "Hag Och Minne", con esa carga épico melancólica, fuerte, que deja en mí el gran sabor de boca para desear pronto un nuevo capítulo de la banda, canción de la que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

TWILIGHT  FOREVERMORE

Solo redundar en lo ya expresado anteriormente en el blog en lo referente a esta banda finlandesa "Burning Winter", un ejemplo claro de como no siempre la calidad y el éxito o el reconocimiento han de ir de la mano, en muchas ocasiones por los más diversos motivos muchas bandas no alcanzan la repercusión que su calidad demuestra, y en casos como este solo a través de un esfuerzo personal y un empeño nos terminan mostrando el tremendo potencial en el instante mismo de la desaparición del grupo a modo de canto de cisne, una auténtica lástima sobre todo atendiendo por ejemplo a este otro tema "Twilight Forevermore", que hoy dejo en el blog.

Canciones para una vida - Eternity's End - Arcturus Prime

 

ARCTURUS  PRIME

Que enorme disco se han sacado de la manga los alemanes "Eternity's End" con este "Embers of war" del pasado 2021, el que supone su tercer LP de estudio y para el que cambiaron de discográfica. La verdad es que la banda va en franco crecimiento y en este trabajo han alcanzado ya altas cotas de calidad y de reconocimiento. El concepto power que se gastan estos chicos va en un sentido a medio camino entre el de sello europeo y el de factura estadounidense, quiza ese pequeño toque progresivo les termine dando una identidad reconocible y propia más allá de escenas. Además la banda para este trabajo ha dado el paso hacia un concepto más clásico como banda en el sentido de que piensan girar y presentar su material en vivo, cuando hasta ahora se ceñían a un concepto "On line", menos tangible. Canciones para una vida - Wizard - Years Of War

 

YEARS  OF  WAR

Es increible como muchas bandas de las que no han saltado a la primera fila de reconocimiento o éxito, persisten en su propuesta, a pesar de los pesares, y terminan por tener una larga carrera llena de obras, un buen ejemplo es el de los germanos "Wizard", grupo que lleva en activo desde 1989, de forma ininterrumpida, y en la que han editado ya un total de 12 LP's de estudio de un heavy metal crudo, que flirtea con sonidos power y épicos, pero al modo true, de hecho muchos los han comparado desde el inicio con Manowar y sin duda en muchos aspectos está totalmente justificada esa comparación. El décimo segundo LP de la banda se titula "Metal in my head" y redunda en todo lo dicho, de hecho en muchos sentidos en un pequeño giro hacia sus propios inicios. Editado en 2021, las eñas de identidad de la banda están intactas, buen ejemplo es el tema que hoy dejo en el blog, "Years of war" con esos coros épicos, y esa melodía que se repite a lo largo y ancho del tema quedandose de manera peremne en tu cabeza, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Crimson Fire - No Fear

 

NO  FEAR

Sólida resulta sin duda la propuesta de los griegos Crimson Fire, en su tercer episodio personal discográfico, un heavy metal con rasgos power que va mejorando obra tras obra, conservando las virtudes y puliendo los errores en una carrera en ascenso. De nuevo extraeremos la lectura de la excelente forma en la que la escena griega se encuentra en los últimos años, se ve que se han estado haciendo muy bien las cosas en esa tierra en este sentido. Como digo, la tercera de las obras de la banda se titula "Another dimension", del pasado 2021, la banda no se presiona y a su ritmo, algo lento eso sí, va sacando LP's, si suplen la cantidad con calidad quizá les merezca la pena. El caso es que hoy quiero dejar en el blog otro de los temas de esta última de sus obras, en concreto la canción "No fear", donde se muestran bien muchas de las virtudes citadas de la banda, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Legions Of The Night - Sirens

 

SIRENS

Una de esas bandas que logró el pasado año 2021 llamar mi atención fueron los germanos "Legions of the night", un proyecto de tres músicos bastante asentados y alguno de ellos de innegable reputación como es el caso concreto del cantante Henning Basse, conocido sobre todo por su trabajo con Metalium o Firewind. Hablamos de un concepto power, por supuesto, pero lejos de pensar en el clásico europower debemos mirar más a la escuela americana, y además con un marcado caracter progresivo en ocasiones, también en el apartado vocal. es evidente que una de las bandas que han influido a estos músicos fue "Savatage", y muchas de las bases de esa citada banda las vemos claramente en este nuevo proyecto. Como decía al inicio, gratisima sorpresa del pasado 2021, obra llena de matices y momentos destacables, una obra para disfrutar en su conjunto y de la que hoy dejo en el blog otro de sus temas, en este caso siendo toda una declaración de intenciones "Sirens", versionando a Savatage en su debut de 1983, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Crom - Riding Into The Sun

 

RIDING  INTO  THE  SUN

Es realmente una lástima que el bueno de Walter Grosse, el alma compositiva detrás de "Crom" no se plantee una carrera más dina´mica, en el sentido de crear más LP's, o mejor dicho hacerlo cada menos tiempo ya que el sonido personal, reconocible, personalmente me llena mucho, es una banda con clara personalidad y un enfoque que me encanta. De momento muchos son ya los años que lleva en activo el grupo (desde 1997) aunque realmente desde 2008 es desde que empezó a podersele considerar como tal con su primer LP, si bien había sido ya precedido de un EP en 2003. Desde 2017 no edita ningún otro LP, pero el pasado 2021 nos dejó unas migajas en forma de EP "Into the glory land" que presentaba dos temas nuevos, el primero de ellos ya lo dejaba hace unos meses en el blog, y el segundo lo dejo hoy, una version propia variada, y otras dos versiones más de bandas, una de ellas de Bathory, uno de los grandes espejos en los que se ha mirado Crom para seguir su propia senda. Como digo el segundo de los temas nuevos del EP se llama "Riding into the sun" y de él dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Gus G. - Night Driver

 

NIGHT  DRIVER

El músico, guitarrista griego, Gus G. es una de esas figuras dentro del heavy metal que ha sabido labrarse una carrera y una fama a base de calidad. Habiendo unido su nombre a otros grandes tanto bandas como músicos, (Dream Evil, Firewind, Mystic Prophecy, Ozzy Osbourne, etc), y que desde muy pronto ha emprendido una carrera paralela en solitario, bajo su propio nombre, atravesande épocas, espaciando sus discos, (que con este "Quantum Of Leap" ya son cinco), y poco a poco dando forma a esta parte de su carrera que no podía terminar de otra manera que llegando a editar un obra completamente instrumental, sin voces invitadas, como ha sucedido este recién pasado 2021 en su mes de octubre donde vio la luz de forma oficial este "Quantum of leap", compuesto durante la pandemia y donde el guitarrista confiesa haber dado rienda suelta a algunas ideas nuevas pero con la base de su identidad compositiva y sonora de fondo. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de las canciones que componen este album, concretamente una con un guiño ochentero innegable, desde el sonido en si hasta la estética del clip recie´n salido, "Night driver" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Firewolfe - Conquer All Fear

 

CONQUER  ALL  FEAR

"Firewolfe" es una banda estadounidense de heavy metal de regusto clasicote que lleva ya una cierta trayectoria a sus espaldas a pesar de la aún corta repercusión que han tenido. Formados en 2010 comienzan a editar LP's en 2011, seguido de otro en 2014 para mostrar un largo silencio hasta el pasado 2021 en que han mostrado su tercer ataque. Como digo regusto clásico, de la escuela americana pero con un aire en ocasiones a la NWOBHM, algún guiño hard rockero e incluso algún detalle Doom, el caso es que para nada están exentos de calidad y es posible que antes o después den en el centro de la diana a la hora de alcanzar esa citada mayor repercusión. El tercero de los discos resulta ser una obra bastante completa, moviendose entre las citadas diferentes vertientes metálicas para completar 11 temas amenos si lo tuyo es el sonido clásico. De ellos hoy quiero dejar en el blog el que da nombre a la obra, "Conquer all fear" un poco con esa vocación de falso medio tiempo, con melodía, riffs afilados y un cierto toque épico de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Burning Winter - Burning Winter

 

BURNING  WINTER

Vamos hoy con lo que puede ser considerado como un resumen histórico de lo que les sucede a muchas bandas con el paso del tiempo, en lo relativo a no terminar de explotar, de quedarse como a medio gas en ese nivel de demos, sin una oportunidad clara a través del apoyo discográfico que al final se perpetua en un permanecer en ese plano "underground" del que es tan dificil escapar. En esta ocasión se trata de los finlandeses "Burning Winter" quienes haciendo acopio de sus ultimas ilusiones han hecho de manera independiente lo que puede considerarse como un recopilatorio de las demos de toda su carrera, (que se extendía desde 2001) para, como indica el título de esta única obra, "The end"  editada el último día del pasado 2021, poner punto y final a su carrera que apenas despegó, muy a pesar del potencial innegable que atesoran. Hablamos de un power de corte europeo, del que hoy quiero dejar como muestra el tema que abre la obra, de título homónimo al nombre de la banda, "Burning Winter", y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - On My Command - Return To The Stars

 

RETURN  TO  THE  STARS

La banda australiana "On My Command" de reciente formación ha sacado recientemente a la venta su segundo LP de estudio "Prey", en concreto a mediados del pasado mes de diciembre del ya extinto 2021. Estamos ante un concepto bastante personal en lo compostivo, bebiendo de más de un subgénero y de más de una escuela lo que les da un característico sello personal. En muchas partes se les cataloga como power thrash, aunque yo lo del thrash no se lo veo por ninguna parte, lo que si que veo es un power más americanizado que europeizado aunque la portada pueda hacernos creer lo contrario, sin embargo el concepto tampoco llega a ser un power americano al uso, es una de eas maneras de componer más nuevas, un poco a lo "Dream Troll" si se quiere, pero con unos rasgos riff más americanos, un poco por eso imagino que se les añade esa etiqueta thrash. El caso es que hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de los temas que componen este segundo album "prey" de 2021, en concreto la canción "Return to the stars" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Feuerschwanz - Ultima Nocte

 

ULTIMA  NOCTE

Siguiendo con el repaso de las obras destacables de este recien terminado 2021, recalo hoy en la última obra editada por los alemanes "Feuerschwanz" quienes han esperado al último día del año para editar su décimo album de estudio, el segundo desde que decidieron darle un aire más serio, o metálico, menos jocoso a su música. el resultado no puede haber sido más pleno de acierto y mostrando esa calidad que sin ningún lugar a dudas poseen. Estamos ante una obra, "memento mori" digna sucesora de su magnífico anterior trabajo "Das elfte gebot" de 2020, que fue, para migusto, sin duda uno de los discos del año de ese 2020. Como digo, siguiendo la estela abierta con esa anterior obra y con ese planteamiento "nuevo" compositivo parecen afianzarse con su folk metal germano. Quiero hoy dejar en el blog otra de las canciones que componen la obra, en esta ocasión "ultima nocte" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Manimal - Slaves Of Babylon

 

SLAVES  OF  BABYLON

El comienzo de año siempre parece un buen momento para hacer balance de lo que el año saliente nos ha dejado, y en lo músical es igualmente apropiado. En este caso estamos para mi gusto ante un gran año en lo musical, con muchas bandas nuevas y viejas dejando material de primera, grupos que van alcanzando una buena madurez compositiva y a las que este 2021 las ha visto crecer, como es el caso de los suecos "Manimal" que nos dejaban en el mes de octubre su cuarto LP de estudio "Armageddon". Ya venían de ese notable disco "Purgatorio" de 2018 y este de este año no es sino una confirmación de su buen estado de forma y de crecimiento. Varios temas he dajdo ya de dicha obra en el blog, y a modo de repaso de 2021 dejo hoy otro de los que más me han gustado de la misma, "Slaves of Babylon", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube. Esperemos que el aún incipiente 2022 sea al menos tan bueno como el 21 en lo musical.
