Canciones para una vida - Lux Perpetua - Conan

 

CONAN

Los polacos Lux Perpetua ya me dejaron en el pasado un grandísimo sabor de boca con su debut en formato LP "The curse of the iron king", de 2017, una obra en clave de power metal que me hizo poner el foco en ellos y de vez en cuando visito su actividad con la esperanza de ver un sucesor a dicho debut que por otra parte parece no llegar nunca, una pena si se quedan en solo esa magnífica obra pero habiendo pasado ya siete años desde entonces empiezo a temer por su continuidad. De todas maneras, echando un vistazo a su primer material editado, "Forever we stand" en formato EP, de 2014, no he podido resistirme a escucharlo, y en cuanto he leido el nombre de su tema central "Conan" me ha faltado tiempo para sumergirme en uno de mis personajes preferidos, máxime al encontrarme estractos de la banda sonora original de la pelicula original del 82, inmenso Basil Poledouris en esta una de las mejores bandas sonoras para mi gusto de la historia del cine, el caso es que el tema después evoluciona al margen de la melodía mencionada, yendo y viniendo, pero ese aura épica permanece así que no he podido resistirme a dejarlo en el blog.

Canciones para una vida - Savage Wizdom - The Barbarian

THE  BARBARIAN

Savage Wizdom es un grupo estadounidense de los que se han tomado con mucha calma su carrera musical ya que han pasado muchos años desde su formación (2004) y en estas dos décadas de actividad tan solo han grabado tres LP's de estudio (2007, 2014 y 2024). Hablamos de una especie de heavy power metal, que desde luego puede traerte muchas reminiscencias de bandas y escenas por momentos según las canciones. Se les puede achacar una cierta sensación amateur en ocasiones pero siempre en general se puede decir que sus canciones tienen suficientes elementos para disfrutar. Hoy quiero dejar una de ellas en el blog, concretamente una de su segundo LP, "A new begining" de 2014, el tema "The barbarian" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Noble Beast - On Wings Of Steel

ON  WINGS  OF  STEEL

Vamos con una banda norteamericana de esas que es una pena que no hayan editado más que un LP de estudio en su periodo de actividad entre 2007 y 2017, y aunque no se han declarado "disueltos" oficialmente la verdad es que no han dado más señales de vida compositiva desde 2014 y su citado primer y único LP "Noble Beast". Estamos ante un power metal de manual, bastante europeizado teniendo en cuenta sus origenes, con un cierto aire blindgaurdianesco, no en lo vocal, pero si en los coros. Canciones para una vida - Dynazty - Starlight

 

STARLIGHT

El tercero de los trabajos de estudio de los suecos "Dynazty", de título "Renatus", sirvio para aumentar su popularidad, siendo desde luego una propuesta que enganchó a muchos de sus seguidores, que seguramente en su mayoría habrán permanecido fieles a la propuesta de la banda en adelante. Dynazty es uno de esos grupos que lleva en su ADN el sello sueco lo que implica esa calidad en producción, y esa capacidad de crear música que se te mete en la cabeza para permanecer allí. A su favor está también lo consistente de su composición, editando obras cada par de años sin que la calidad se resienta, todo ello hace de su propuesta un valor seguro, y hoy quiero dejar en el blog otro de los temas que forman parte de su tercer album, el citado "Renatus" de 2014, del que hoy dejo el tema "Starlight", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Saracen - Crusader

 

CRUSADER

Vamos otra vez con una banda veterana, de las que se apuntaron al comienzo de esta aventura del heavy metal al movimiento británico de bandas que formaron la NWOBHM, así pues nos retrotraemos a los inicios de los ochenta aunque en realidad esté hoy hablando de una reedición de 2014 de una canción originalmente compuesta para su debut de 1981. Se trata de los británicos Saracen, que es el prototípico grupo que dio muestras de calidad y buen hacer a inicios de los 80 para cesar su actividad demasiado temprano con demasiados pocos discos y que ha mantenido una cierta actividad intermitente a lo largo de las décadas incluyendo un último LP en 2014 que aportaba alguna reedición de material viejo con un baño de producción moderna, como es el caso de este "crusader" del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Crystal Eyes - Warrior

 

WARRIOR

Los suecos Crystal Eyes, son una de esas bandas que han pasado un poco de puntillas por la escena internacional a pesar de haber estado haciendolo muy bien desde el comienzo, sin embargo, como a veces sucede con muchas bandas parecen haber ocupado el nicho de banda de segunda línea y en general así se les ha tratado. Su carrera es ya larga e incluso en términos de discos editados es más que respetable su producción musical con 8 LP's desde 1998 en que comenzaron su andadura musical. Hoy quiero recuperar otra de sus obras, "Killer" de 2014, la penúltima a fecha de esta reseña a través de una de las canciones que la componen, "Warrior", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube. Power de corte europeo de alta calidad que debería haberles reportado mayor botín del cosechado, una vez más.

Canciones para una vida - Sons Of Crom - Master Of Shadows

 

MASTER  OF  SHADOWS

La banda internacional nórdica (sueco finlandesa) "Sons Of Crom" compuesta tan solo por dos miembros multiinstrumentistas, que basan su sonido en un atmósferico heavy doom, sin caer en el death en lo vocal pero con un innegable y oscuro influjo de Bathory, sobre todo en sus inicios, que hablando de una discografía de tan solo dos LP's es como decir de gran parte de su carrera que comenzó allá por 2014 y ha visto un primer LP en ese mismo año seguido por un segundo en 2017. Volviendo la vabeza de nuevo a su debut quiero hoy dejar en el blog otra de las composiciones que lo integran, "Master of shadows", uno de esos guiños a Bathory a los que me refería, con todos los ingredientes, atmósféricos, esa sensación de pesada melancolía, con tintes épicos y de medio tiempo, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Air Raid - Victim Of The Night

  

VICTIM  OF  THE  NIGHT

El concepto clásico del heavy metal en pleno siglo XXI es innegable que ha sufrido un enorme repunte en lo que a bandas de todo el planeta se refiere, que han adoptado este modo de componer como su manera o meta. El repunte de bandas se hace especialmente notable en las escenas nórdicas y particularmente en la sueca que ha recuperado mucho del poder que siempre tuvo con esa calidad intrinseca a su propio origen. Otra de esas bandas que han tirado por simplificar eliminando lo digamos superfluo son "Air Raid", formados en 2009 y que hasta la fecha de esta reseña tienen tres LP's de estudio ya a sus espaldas, aunque el último de ellos sea ya de 2017. Todo en el grupo parece sacado de la década de los 80 pero con el baño tecnológico de nuestros días en lo que a producción se refiere lograndose el efecto que tan atractivo resulta a los amantes del género clásico que no deseen renunciar a la limpia producción actual. Canciones para una vida - Unisonic - Night Of The Long Knives

 

NIGHT  OF  THE  LONG  KNIVES

Ahora que finalmente la esperadisima reunión Helloweenera clásica se ha hecho real el pasado 2021, al echar la vista atrás nos damos cuenta de lo progresiva y en cierta manera natural manera en que esto ha terminado por suceder, con pequeñas colaboraciones entre hansen y Kiske al inicio, participaciones en los proyectos de ambos por parte del otro fuera de Helloween, temas compuestos especificamente para ser cantados por Kiske por parte de Hansen, y el paso anterior y más firme fue la creación del proyecto "Unisonic" que durante unos años nos parecía lo más cercano que se podría encontrar a aquella mágica época de ambos en la banda. Al final el proyecto tendría dos episodios, el segundo de ellos en 2014, "Light of dawn" del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus temas. Esta segunda entrega se muestra más variada, con temas más heterogeneos y resultaría ser el último del grupo antes de su separación en 2017. Buen ejemplo de esa tentación de considerarse herederos de aquellos Helloween es el tema "Night of the long knives", de la que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Iron Savior - Dragon King

 

DRAGON  KING

La propuesta de Iron Savior siempre resulta homogenea, en este caso, por la entidad de quien está detrás de la banda, siempre encontraremos calidad, buen hacer pero en la otra parte de balanza está el eterno tema de sonar a si mismos, esa dualidad tantas veces mencionada de la originalidad contra la pérdida de la identidad. Si eres de los que te gusta la propuesta de estos germanos estarás siempre seguro de como va a sonar su nuevo disco, si eres de los que te aburre la repetición de fórmulas decididamente esta no será tu banda. De cualquier manera Piet Sielk es siempre sinónimo de calidad y con "Rise of the hero" vemos a la banda en su Octavo LP de estudio, del año 2014, un disco sólido dentro de su propuesta, contundente en su heavy metal teutón, y del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de sus canciones, concretamente "Dragon king" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube. Canciones para una vida - Alestorm - Sunset On The Golden Age

 

SUNSET  ON  THE  GOLDEN AGE

La carrera de los escoceses Alestorm es hoy en día una referencia para muchas otras bandas, y concretamente con la madurez que ya presentan en su década y media de historia personal van, nunca mejor dicho, viento en popa, incluyendo los proyectos paralelos de Bowes. 6 LP's de estudio son ya un buen legado que esperemos que siga creciendo pero entre obra y obra el ejercicio de echar un vistazo attrás a la discografía del grupo es muy recomandable. Hoy quiero hacerlo de nuevo con su cuarta obra de estudio, "Sunset on the golden age" de 2014, de la que ya he hablado en el blog y de la que hoy dejo en el blog la canción que da nombre a la obra, un épico tema largo, (que no es lo más habitual de la banda que suele acostumbrarnos mucho a temas de apenas tres minutos), que muestra ese lado compositivo del grupo, con todos los ingredientes que han hecho de esta banda ese referente mencionado más arriba para otras bandas, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Sylvatica - Sect Of Sleep

 

SECT  OF  SLEEP

Vuelta al death melódico de origen nórdico y pretensiones folk para dejar en el blog de nuevo una de las canciones del primero de los LP's de los daneses "Sylvatica", una banda que lleva ya  a sus espaldas una media trayectoria musical que comenzó en 2009 y que en este 2021 ha visto la publicación de su segundo LP, del que ya hablaré en este blog proximamente. La verdad es que esta es otra de las bandas que parece que deberían haber tenido mayor capacidad compositiva, e lo referente a la cantidad, no en lo que se refiere a la calidad que es indudablemente alta, pero solo dos LP's en tan largo periodo se antoja sin duda escaso. Como digo estamos ante un death melódico de corte folk en momentos, que enseña su origen nórdico, (Dinamarca). Parece que la banda haya tenido algún bajón en lo que a la continuidad de sus integrantes se refiere pues solo uno de ellos continua desde su creación y desde 2017 se han incorporado dos miembros nuevos, y el fruto de esta nueva formación es la segunda de las obras como digo de 2021. De su debut de 2014, "Evil Seed", quiero hoy dejar en el blog otro de sus temas, "Sect Of Sleep" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Dawn Of Destiny - And With Silence Comes The Fear

 

 AND  WITH  SILENCE  COMES  THE  FEAR

Dawn of Destiny es una banda alemana de esas que es dificil de encasillar en un solo subgénero o con una sola etiqueta, es un grupo que adorna sus LP's con muchos matices, y a lo largo de sus épocas han ido a su vez evolucionando, así, encontramos rasgos power, casi como la base más común a lo largo y ancho de sus obras, pero además esos ramalazos desde gotiquillos hasta progresivos, con voces muchos más agresivas en ocasiones, un tanto "pseudo death", la dualidad vocla masculina y femenina, dan para enriquecer sus discos, aunque ese puede ser también su problema para llegar a las masas, requieren más atención de escucha, lo que en la práctica suele ser un problema para vender más discos. El grupo se forma en 2005 y siguen en activo en nuestros días con una discografía a sus espaldas de 7 LP's de estudio, el último de ellos de 2019. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de las canciones de su quinto LP "F.E.A.R.", de 2014, concretamente el tema con el que abren "And with silence comes the fear", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Astral Domine - Tale Of The Elves And Pain

 

TALE  OF  THE  ELVES  AND  PAIN

Los italianos Astral Domine son una banda formada en 2011 que editaron un LP de estudio en 2014, "Arcanum Gloriae", en clave de power sinfónico con ciertos rasgos épicos, para en 2016 dar un giro estilístico y cambiar su nombre a "Veil of conspiraxy" y estilo compositivo hacia un sonido más progresivo, tras la salida de la banda de parte de sus integrantes, la historia de siempre, suena a desacuerdo interno en la dirección que seguir y al final de la banda tal y como fue concebida. El disco grabado bajo el nombre de Astral Domine, parece tener todos los ingredientes para poderse haber perpetuado como banda, con todos los integrantes originales y con el concepto inicial, calidad había, buena composición e incluso colaboraciones de lujo como la de Fabio Lione por ejemplo en la canción "where heroes die". De hecho, la voz del cantante Marco Scorletti en no pocas ocasiones se parece mucho a la de Lione, sobre todo en su manera de cantar y en cierta tonalidades. Sea como sea, otra banda que queda en el camino sin apenas oportunidad de mostrar todo su potencial. De ella, y de su única obra dejo hoy en el blog otro de sus temas, concretamente "Tale Of The Elves And Pain", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Allen - Lande - Down From The Mountain

 

DOWN  FROM  THE  MOUNTAIN

La fórmula de juntar músicos reputados, de trayectoria importante no es algo nuevo en esto de la música, y concretamente en el heavy metal se ha hecho muchas veces con mejor o peor resultado. En esta ocasión me refiero a una de esas aventuras que junta a dos cantantes en esta ocasión, Russell Allen y Jorn Lande, proyecto impulsado por el sello discográfico "Frontiers", que comenzó esta historia en 2005 con la primera de sus entregas "The battle". Hats la fecha de esta reseña, son cuatro los LP's que este duplo ha sacado, con el apoyo compositivo en los tres primeros de Magnus Karlsson, figura mucho más que reconocible como compositor además de interprete poli instrumentista, y en su cuarto LP, "The Great Divide", sustituido por Timo Tolkki, de quien sobran presentaciones. Hablamos de un estilo musical a medio camino entre el hard rock y el heavy metal melódico, siempre, como no puede ser de otra forma por la categoría de los músicos implicados, con la calidad por estandarte. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de los temas que componen su cuerto y, hasta la fecha, último LP editado por el proyecto, "The great divide" de 2014, concertamente la canción "Down from the mountain" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Dream Of Unreality - Poverty Of A Mind

 

POVERTY  OF  A  MIND

Vamos hoy con otro de esos puntos fuertes de la escena musical finlandesa, el del marco compositivo del death melódico, con otra banda, "Dream Of Unreality", de esas que han tenido muy poca repercusión y poco o nulo apoyo discográfico con una discografía bastante escasa pero que ha bastado para mostrar ese potencial innegable que atesoran. Formados en 2003, este grupo ha editado tan solo un LP, "The burden" en 2011, y un EP, "Face of creation" en 2014, desde ese momento silencio a pesar de que su estatus como banda oficialmente permanezca en activo. Como digo estamos ante una banda que practica un death melódico a palo seco, sin toques folk, y de buenas características técnicas. Hoy dejo en el blog uno de los tres temas que componen su EP "Face of creation", en concreto "Poverty of a mind" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Eldertale - Time Of Ancient

 

 TIME  OF  ANCIENT

Eldertale es una banda ucraniana de esas que han tenido un fugaz paso por la escena musical, sobre todo desde el punto de vista de su discografía absolutamente escasa, que se limita a un único EP con tres temas en clave de folk metal melódico, con los elementos esperables comunes a los grandes nombres del subgénero, coros, voz death que se une a momentos limpios y narrados y melodía como hilo conductor. Decía lo de su fugacidad sobre todo en lo compositivo porque en su tiempo de vida fueron bastante más extensos, con varias épocas entre 2005 y 2017, pero editando como digo un solo trabajo, el EP "Land of old" de 2014. Así pues los amantes del death melódico de corte folk de bandas como Ensiferum y compañía encontrarán más que interesante su propuesta, aunque se limite a tres canciones antes de su separación definitiva, como digo en 2017. Canciones para una vida - Winterstorm - Down In The Seas

 

 DOWN  IN  THE  SEAS

Demasiado largo se va antojando ya el tiempo que ha pasado desde la edición de la última de las cuatro obras que componen la discografía de esta banda alemana, (2016). Oficialmente no hay motivo para temer su continuidad pues figuran como en activo pero ya se va echando en falta la salida del quinto LP. A falta de noticias nuevas en ese sentido es siempre un buen momento para dar otro repaso al material ya publicado, y hoy quiero recuperar en el blog otra de las canciones que componen su tercer LP, "Cathyron" de 2014. Ya se sabe hablando de esta banda que uno puede esperar un power metal de corte europeo con un aire folk un tanto nórdico, con ese gusto épico y esos característicos coros. Otro buen ejemplo de su buen hacer es la canción "Down in the seas" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube. Esperemos tener pronto noticias de un nuevo capítulo en su discografía, ya va tocando.

Canciones para una vida - Enfarce - I'm A Hero

 

I'M  A  HERO

"Enfarce" es un grupo finlandés de power metal que lleva ya unos años en activo a pesar de tener una corta producción musical que de momento se limita a dos LP's. Formados en 2001 funcionaron durante sus tres primeros años bajo el nombre de "Enforce" para dejar el proyecto en el aire durante toda una década, volviendo en 2013 cambienado esa "o" por la "a", para denominarse definitivamente "Enfarce" y comenzar a editar material de estudio. La primer de sus obras en formato LP fue "Superhero Diaries part 1" en 2014, que tendría su continuación en "Superheroes Diaries Part 2" en 2015, momento desde el cual no han dado más noticias compositivas hasta la actualidad, aunque figuran en su estatus como grupo como "en activo". Estamos hablando de un power de corte europeo, muy de su tierra, muy finlandés, de hecho vocalmente te recordarán al concepto "Stratovarius", y no solo vocalmente ni solo a Stratovarius, es un concepto como digo muy norteño y europeo, ritmos galopantes, grandes coros y guitarras, solos, etc. Recomendable para seguidores del power pues, y como ejemplo dejo en el blog uno de los temas que componen su debut de 2014, concretamente "I'm a hero", canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Sonata Arctica - The Wolves Die Young

THE  WOLVES  DIE  YOUNG

Poco que decir de este grupo, para lo bueno y para lo malo, y poco que, a nivel personal, no haya dicho ya con anterioridad en el blog, tan solo repetir ese sentimiento de añoranza de tiempos pasados llenos de velocidad y contundencia dentro del power que hicieron suyo muy desde el inicio de su carrera. Siguiendo con esa idea, tiempo hace ya que su sonido se ralentizó demasiado, casi haciendo sentir a los fans de los comienzos de la banda una sensación casi de traición por la necesidad de seguir discfrutando más tiempo de ese concepto, e igualmente, siempre que se intuye que una canción en concreto va en esa línea, aunque sea minimamente se hace un esfuerzo más por ilusionarse con una posible vuelta a los "Ecliptica" y sucesores, algo que por desgracia nunca llega. Sea como fuere la calidad en la banda es innegable y suelen dejar pinceladas de su clase en cada obra, y de la "Pariah Child" de 2014 el single "The wolves die young" muestra esa clase, aún a un nivel más ralentizado, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.
