GLITTERTIND

Fornuften, arbeidsgleden,
er selve livets verd!
Vi tror ikke drap og brann,
gavner noget land!
Vi tror på evig seier,
for rettsinn og forstand!
Som glittertind under isbreteppets drakt,
skal friheten stå rakt i samme prakt!
Som Nordsjøen alltid skyller inn mot strand,
vil vi som dyrker freden holde stand!
Og flere følger efter,
om mange av oss falt!
For vi har indre krefter,
vi overlever alt!
Vi har en hellig seierstro,
som styrker og gir ro!
Vi vet at ånd er evig,
og liv vil alltid gro!
English Translation
We place our faith in peace! We wield no sword! Reason and the joy of work Are life’s true worth! We do not believe that slaughter and fire Benefit any land! We believe in eternal victory For righteousness and reason! Like Glittertind beneath its mantle of ice, Freedom shall stand tall in equal splendor! Like the North Sea washing against the shore, We who cherish peace shall hold our ground! And others will follow, Even if many of us have fallen! For we possess inner strength; We survive it all! We hold a sacred faith in victory, Bringing strength and peace! We know that the spirit is eternal, And life will always flourish!
