SWORD  OF  SALVATION 

Hablar de la escena finlandesa de los primeros 2000 es hacerlo de uno de sus momentos cumbre en el marco del power metal, cientos de bandas se apuntaban al éxito de grupos como Stratovarius y Sonata Arctica, el mundo parecía rendirse a esa fórmula que funcionaba a las mil maravillas, y Celesty quiso coger esa ola también. La verdad es que tenían todo a su favor, la calidad, la escena y el momento, pero como tantas otras veces pasa en todos loa ambitos de la vida, dos y dos no siempre da cuatro, y el grupo no terminaría de explotar al nivel que sin duda merecían. Así, tras poco más de una década de actividad se terminarían por separar con una discografía a sus espaldas de cuatro LP's de estudio entre 2002 y 2009. Su debut de 2002 ya dejaba claras sus intenciones y de esa primera obra, "Reign of elements" dejo hoy en el blog su canción "Sword of salvation" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Primal Fear - One

ONE 

Muy en la línea de lo que ahora hacen las bandas en el sentido de publicar material de una forma lo más continua posible, aunque sea a base de singles sueltos, que luego puedan o no ser parte de una nueva obra, los germanos Primal Fear sacan una nueva canción "One" en este 2026 a pesar de la cercanía de su último LP publicado en el recién pasado 2025. Es desde luego lícito, e incluso de agradecer, mostrar material a los fans con mayor continuidad, aunque sea a pequeñas cucharadas. Dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube de este "One".

Stratovarius - Giants

GIANTS 

Tiene que ser muy duro llevar a cuestas uno de los grandes nombres en la música, y dentro del power Stratovarius fue espejo para todos durante no pocos años, además de ser punta de lanza de una escena tan importante como la finlandesa. La salida de miembros fundamentales de la banda, sobre todo de Tolkky parecía algo irreparable, un golpe del que el grupo no se levantaría, pero no fue así, y desde su salida en 2008 la banda ha publicado otros cinco LP's de estudio, si bien la periodicidad a la hora de hacerlo se va alargando progresivamente. En 2015 el grupo publicaba su décimo quinto album de estudio, "Etrenal" del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog otra de sus canciones, "Giants" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Claymorean - Silent Guardians

SILENT  GUARDIANS 

La tercera  obra de estudio de los serbios Claymorean, (la primera tras cambiar su nombre de Claymore a Claymorean), lleva por título "Unbroken" y fue publicada en 2015. Estamos ante una banda que ha tenido bastantes cambios en su formación, y así, tan solo su motor compositivo Vladimir Garčevic que es ademas guitarrista y una de las voces de la banda, permanece desde el inicio en el grupo. Con un cierto cambio de planteamiento desde el concepto épico del inicio, (épico a la italiana o griega si se quiere), a un concepto power más doom posteriormente. Seis LP's de estudio se antojan un tanto escasos para una larga ya trayectoria (desde 1994) pero sus varios parones les han lastrado en ese y otros sentidos. Highlord - Resurrection

 

 RESURRECTION

Los italianos Highlord son otra de esas bandas que han sabido ir adaptandose a sus circunstancias de cada momento para, basicamente, hacer subsistir su nombre a pesar de que poco o nada queda de la banda inicial que la hizo nacer a mediados de los 90. Comenzando en dicha época, en el marco del power metal, y con el omnipresente en aquel momento espejo de Rhapsody no solo para los italianos pero sobre todo para ellos, el grupo dio sus primeros pasos compositivos en dicha línea. Esa primera década en su carrera sería la más regular, con seis LP's entre 1999 y 2009, pero el cambio en su sonido iba en aumento, a medida que miembros clásicos de la banda salían y otros entraban, luego, parones, años algo más regulares, más cambios en la formación, más parones más largos y un sonido mucho más power genérico sin demasiada identidad. En este 2026 "resucitan" de nuevo a través de este single "Resurrection" del que dejo un enlace a youtube, veremos hasta donde les llega este nuevo "arreón".

Arcane Tales - The Endless Wearing Fight

THE  ENDLESS  WEARING  FIGHT 

De nuevo un proyecto impulsado por un solo músico, otro planteamiento unilateral desde un punto de vista compositivo, de esos que abundan en internet, que muchas veces llevan a un aparente camino sin salida, máxime si nos adentramos en el sonido sinfónico donde es tan complicado mantener el equilibrio entre lo que puede ser incluso una banda sonora, con un sonido heavy metalico. Arcane Tales es uno de esos proyectos, sinfónico pero bastante equilibrado, con el impulso de un solo músico, el italiano Luigi Soranno que se encarga de todo, en lo instrumental, lo compositivo que desde 2008 activó el proyecto bajo este nombre aunque ya venía desarrollando la idea desde mediados de los 90 bajo otros nombres. De moneto, a fecha de esta reseña ha publicado 8 LP's de estudio, el último de ellos "Ancestral War" de 2025, y del que dejo hoy en el blog su canción "The endless wearing fight" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Masterplan - Chase The Light

CHASE  THE  LIGHT 

El nombre de Masterplan es uno de esos grandes nombres que todo metalhead al menos ha escuchado alguna vez y no pocos dan por hecho el respeto e importancia de la banda, sin embargo, este proyecto inicialmente de gente que militaba en Helloween que luego por circunstancias se transforma en banda a tiempo completo, lleva ya camino de tres décadas en activo (2001) y si miramos la extensión de su discografía (Siete LP's de estudio si incluimos el septimo "Metalmorphosis" aún por llegar allá para junio) se antoja un tanto escasa, aunque compensada con la innegable calidad. Con las idas y venidas de miembros, sobre todo en el puesto de batería, el grupo se ha labrado una gran reputación, y en esta nueva entrega prometen un cierto cambio sonoro, no tanto en profundidad como en una actitud compositiva más agresiva. Nunca entenderé la fijación para muchos de comparar a Virgin Steele con Manowar, más allá de su identico origen neoyorquino pocas similitudes se me antojan, sobre todo en lo que a planteamiento de carrera se refiere. Pero bueno, esa es otra historia, el caso es que Virgin Steele es otro de esos grupos clásicos, fundamentales, llenos de momentos memorables en lo que al album familiar del heavy metal en general y su conjunto. Tailgunner - Midnight Blitz

MIDNIGHT  BLITZ 

Como no podía ser de otra manera, en estos tiempos que corren con esa mirada casi nostálgica que muchas bandas jóvenes llevan ya una década haciendo al sonido heavy metal de la old school, la escena británica también cuenta con grupos nuevos que quieren aceptar ese peso histórico del heavy metal británico sobre sus espaldas. Eternal Winter - Initiation

 

INITIATION 

Son varias las bandas que han intentado una carrera bajo el nombre de Eternal Winter, una de ellas esta banda estodounidense que hoy traigo al blog. Formados en 2002, el grupo ha permanecido en un segundo plano durante toda su carrera que además no se ha prodigado mucho en lo que a publicación de obras se refiere. Dream Evil - Fire Battle In Metal

FIRE  BATTLE  IN  METAL 

El cuarto album de estudio de los suecos Dream Evil fue un punto de inflexión en la carrera de la banda, fue el primero que publica la banda tras la salida de parte de los miembros fundadores como Gus G o Snowy Shaw, fue pues una adaptación a la nueva formación manteniendo ese equilibrio entre lo viejo y eficaz, ya que los inicios de la banda deslumbraron a la escena del momento, y los cambios en la formación de bandas aun no del todo asentadas pueden resultar traumaticos tanto para las bandas como para sus fans. El caso es que el grupo tras esta obra perdió la continuidad y con ella el hipotético asalto a la cima que sus comienzos hacían barruntar. Wizard - Defenders Of Metal

DEFENDERS  OF  METAL 

Los germanos Wizard, para inicios de los 2000 seguían apuntando a una suerte de heavy metal clásico unido a una actitud true metalera con todos los clichés de ambas perspectivas, y en 2001 publicaban su cuarto LP de estudio "Head of the deceiver". Todo queda ya plasmado en su portada, estaba claro que habían tomado el sendero "manowaristico" y su ritmo compositivo era alto, cuatro discos entre 1995 y 2001. Volviendo a esta cuarta obra de estudio, quiero hoy dejar en el blog otro de sus ejercicios de defensa del "metal" con actitud, ya desde el propio título se dice todo, "defenders of metal" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

GLADE  LORDS  OF  ATHEL  LOREN

Los islandeses Power Paladin ya dejaron un gran sabor de boca a través de su debut de 2022, y parecen haberse tomado con tranquilidad sacar su segundo album que llega en este 2024 "Beyond the reach of enchantment" que verá la luz en el mes de marzo. En estos días nos dejan su segundo adelanto, "Glade lords of Athel Loren", que sigue la senda europower de su anterior obra y de su primer adelanto de la segunda con la promesa de gustar a aquellos a quienes conquistara el sonido de su debut.
