Stormhunter - An Eye For An I

AN  EYE  FOR  AN  I 

Stormhunter, otra banda más que parecía llamada a alcanzar la cumbre en lo que al power metal se refiere pero que tras el parón de una década sufrido entre 2014 y 2024, al menos en términos compositivos, dejó en entredicho la progresión que el grupo venía teniendo en la primera parte de su carrera. Formados en 1998 originalmente en realidad no cogen carrerilla hasta 2007 donde se rearman y comienzan a publicar LP's en 2009 para dar continuidad en 2011 y 2014, y tras la mencionada pausa en 2024 han publicado su cuarto y a fecha de esta reseña último LP. Los alemanes Dominum dejan su segundo adelanto del que será su tercer LP de estudio "Night is calling" que verá la luz de forma oficial en los primeros días de julio, tercera obra ya desde su formación en 2022 lo que habla de su meteorica carrera que no hace sino agrandar su repercusión como banda obra tras obra, llamados a alcanzar la cima más pronto que tarde. Nothgard - When Gods Cry

WHEN  GODS  CRY 

Los alemanes Nothgard practican un death melódico, más tecnico que folk pero no carente de vocación épica. Con una carrera ya camino de las dos décadas (desde 2009) sin embargo no se han prodigado mucho en lo que a publicar material se refiere, cuatro LP's más un EP en todos estos años, aunque van dando señales de vida compositiva recientemente a través de singles nuevos. Heavenly - Break The Silence

BREAK  THE  SILENCE 

Los franceses Heavenly, son una de las bandas a las que se podría poner como ejemplo perfecto del europower de los 2000, de este power metal cuidado, bien ejecutado, compuesto y producido, sonido limpio, con gancho y todas las premisas para reinar en el subgénero, sin embargo, quizá la falta de continuidad que dejaron de tener con la década de los 2000, desde la que no editan música les haya relegado al olvido. En 2001 publicaban su segundo LP "Sign of the winner" del que dejo hoy en el blog su canción "Break the silence" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Avantasia - Sign Of The Cross

SIGN  OF  THE  CROSS 

Vuelta a uno de esos momentos que en general se reconocen como puntos de inflexión o de influencia a partir de ese instante, 2001, Avantasia, y el concepto de opera rock, algo que ya existia previamente pero que Sammet elevó de nivel por varios motivos, el caso es que este primer disco del por entonces proyecto "The metal Opera" ha sido reconocido en la enorme importancia que tiene, la tremenda calidad y el gran hacer compositivo e interpretativo, e incluso como hito metálico histórico con la recuperación de Kiske para el heavy metal tras su inexplicable periodo de negación del mismo por parte del carismático vocalista alemán. Iron Kobra - Trembling Dungeons

TREMBLING  DUNGEONS 

Iron Kobra, otra banda que en su momento decidió recuperar el espíritu del heavy metal de la vieja escuela pero en pleno siglo XXI, es parte de esa ola global de resurrección del sonido clásico, en esta ocasión desde la cantera alemana, que se dio desde inicios de la década de los diez de este siglo. Formados en 2008, a fecha de esta reseña cuatro son sus LP's de estudio, si incluimos "Eternal Dagger" cuya salida oficial se espera para mitad de junio, y del que hoy dejo en el blog su adelanto "Trembling Dungeons" del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Cacophony - Black Cat

BLACK  CAT 

Vamos con un proyecto de esos de los ochenta, Cacophony, en que se unían las fuerzas de dos músicos asentados y reconocidos, Marty Friedman y Jason Becket, ya un una trayectoria a sus espaldas que en este final de la década de los ochenta sacaban dos LP's en el 87 y 88 para después aparcar definitivamente su aventura musical juntos. Unos trabajos apoyados en el virtuosismo instrumental, con aire speedico y desde la perspectiva guitarrista shred y neoclásico, un poco en onda Malmsteen sin caer en ese egocentrismo. En 1988 publicaban el segundo de sus trabajos que sería el último del grupo. El título "Go Off" y de él hoy dejo en el blog la canción "Black cat" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Tungsten - Joker

 

JOKER 

El quinto album de estudio de los suecos Tungsten llevará por título "Ashes" y no verá la luz de forma oficial hasta octubre de este año, y de momento ya han mostrado dos adelantos del mismo, el segundo de ellos en estos días, "Joker", donde la banda de la familia Johansson muestra su poco o nulo miedo a la experimentación, la fusión de sonidos que les aleja de una etiqueta única y que sin embargo no les aleja de una identidad propia y reconocible. En este segundo adelanto "Joker", se flirtea con el "Yodel" tirolés con un baño absoluto de "tungsteno" en onda de la banda que sigue demostrando lo efectivo de su estilo. Frosttide - Unforgettable Journey

UNFORGETTABLE  JOURNEY 

No es raro que una banda demuestre su valía desde su mismo inicio, que enseñe todo su potencial a las primeras de cambio, pero tampoco lo es que a pesar de ello no llegue a explotar en la medida de lo necesario y termine por desaparecer antes de tiempo, precipitadamente. En semejantes coordenadas podríamos situar a los finlandeses Frosttide, una de esas bandas que enmarcan su sonido en el death folk melódico, de inspiración nórdico vikinga fantástica, que se forman en 2009 y que en 2023 dejan de estar en activo, a pesar de no ser supuestamente un final definitivo, veremos, porque ya desde su primer EP de 2010 "Dawn Of frost" mostraban ese buen hacer y potencial que por ejemplo queda claro a través de su "Unforgettable Journey" del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

HIGH  AND  LOW 

El enésimo proyecto o banda sueca enmarcado en el sonido power que debutará a nivel de LP en este 2026, son Shadowborne, con un sonido melódico, voz femenina, pero en una tesitura más Battle Beast que Nightwish para entendernos, un marco instrumental un tanto Sabaton, muchos de los clichés se dan cita en este adelanto de "Heaven's Falling" que así se llamará la obra, titulado "High and low" y del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Finntroll - Ett Norrskensdad

ETT  NORRSKENSDAD 

Más de un lustro lleva ya la banda finlandesa Finntroll sin dar señales de vida compositiva, su último LP data de 2020 y la verdad es que estaría muy bien que retomasen la senda compositiva para mostrar a sus seguidores que siguen activos en ese sentido. No queda otra que tirar de discografía para recordar algunos de los muchos buenos momentos que la banda ha mostrado a lo largo de su historia. En 2010 publicaban su quinto LP de estudio "nifelvind" del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus clásicos, "Ett Norrskendad", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Dreamtale - Mirror Mirror

MIRROR  MIRROR 

Los finlandeses Dreamtale son otra de esas bandas que llevan ya una nada despreciable trayectoria a sus espaldas ya que se formaron en 1999 y desde entonces han publicado ya ocho LP's de estudio, el último de ellos a fecha de esta reseña en 2022, pero siempre he tenido esa impresión de ser una de las bandas, por uno u otro motivo, que se encuentran en una segunda fila, en aceptación o repercusión más que en calidad, sobre todo desde que en 2019 la banda se rearma y cambia a varios de sus miembros. En este 2026 el grupo ha presentado el pasado 30 de abril un nuevo single "Mirror Mirror" que puede ser preludio de un nuevo album que por tiempo ya tocaría. Fejd - Gryning

 

GRYNING 

El folk metal de corte nórdico tiene en la escena sueca uno de sus mayores pilares, como no podía ser de otra manera, todo ese sonido tradicional de influencia vikinga, ese sonido tradicional que marida tan bien con el sonido heavy, es como una unión natural que ha llegado a tener un gran pico de aceptación a nivel internacional sobre todo en los años 10 de este siglo. Muchas bandas pues responden a estas premisas, entre ellas Fejd, formados con el inicio del siglo, allá por 2001, con cuatro LP's publicados a fecha de esta reseña y de la que hoy quiero dejar un canción de su tercer LP de estudio "Eifur" de 2010.
