Grave Digger - Bark To Hell - Canciones Para Una Vida

BARK  TO  HELL 

No es tradicionalmente la manera de Grave Digger, lo de la publicación de singles más allá de lo habitual en los casos en que se saca un disco nuevo, me refiero a esos singles sueltos, huerfanos de disco, que muchos grupos han cultivado a modo de permanencia en la retina del gran público, y que Grave Digger parece que ha descubierto hace poco y en este 2025 edita ya el segundo de ellos. De nuevo estamos ante una propuesta compositiva muy del principio de su carrera, una especie de vuelta a las raices alejandose de ese componente más power o incluso folk (por lo de las gaitas). HELLFIRE  CRUSADE

De las sesiones de grabación del último LP de estudio "Bone Collector" de los alemanes Grave Digger, nos dejan en estos días un tema no incluido en el citado disco, la canción "Hellfire Crusade", una de esas canciones con el inconfundible sello de la banda, directa, quizá más que la mayoría de las que forman parte de "Bone Collector", una canción de la que dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Grave Digger - Mirror Of Hate - Canciones Para Una Vida

MIRROR  OF  HATE

Vamos a rescatar otro de los temas de la última obra de estudio de los germanos Grave Digger, "Bone collector" publicada con el inicio del año, un disco que no creo que vaya a considerarse como el mejor de los de Boltendhal, pero que si tiene las garantías y el sello de la banda, al final estamos ante unos veteranisimos de esto del heavy metal y en esta obra es lo que nos ofrecen, sin más ( y nada menos), es quizá una vuelta a ese origen sonoro en que hay menos ornamentaciones, es como ir más al meollo del riff que a contar una historia en capítulos, pero como digo es Grave Digger. KILLING  IS  MY  PLEASURE

Claro está que Grave Digger es uno de los grandes grupos clásicos que ha alcanzado ese estatus por méritos propios y por su contundente e insistente carrera, una de esas bandas que ha atravesado por fases pero siempre ha resultado absolutamente reconocible en sus propuestas compositivas. En este 2025 han publicado su vigésimo segundo disco de estudio, "Bone Collector" con un claro sabor clásico, alejandose de los arreglos o las propuestas adornadas para ejecutar su propia versión más cruda en una onda de heavy metal de la vieja escuela a la que ellos pertenecen e hicieron crecer. Canciones para una vida - Grave Digger - Kingdom Of Skulls

KINGDOM  OF  SKULLS

Vuelta a la primera línea de uno de los clásicos, grandes y pioneros, los germanos Grave Digger que en solo un par de meses, (ya para 2025) están de aniversario (45 años en el heavy metal, y para celebrarlo editan el que será ya su vigésimo primer LP de estudio "Bone Collector" (concretamente para el 17 de enero), y que les sirve además de para seguir adelante con su concepto del heavy metal de la vieja escuela, para mostrar que la salida de su guitarrista (en la banda desde 2009) nos les ha frenado para nada continuando con paso firme en su concepción compositiva. Aprovecha la banda para reivindicarse en su sonido más directo para la ocasión tras muchas obras conceptuales. BACK  TO  THE  ROOTS

Vamos con el segundo de los temas de los germanos Grave Digger pertenecientes al último material de estudio publicado, de este 2024 en formato single "The grave is yours", y cuyo título es "Back to the roots", confirmando que la banda mantiene una mirada siempre al sonido de sus comienzos, cuando el heavy metal como tal hacia bien poquito que había nacido, los primeros 80. Esta canción, originalmente compuesta para el EP "Symphony of death" de 1994,  captura perfectamente ese espíritu primigenio compositivo de lo que dio forma a nuestro sonido, la verdad es que esta banda, ya fundamental en el marco del heavy metal como tal, nunca ha abandonado el sentimiento clásico, que en particular en esta canción se nota mucho, un tema del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Grave Digger - The Grave Is Yours

THE  GRAVE  IS  YOURS

Tras la aventura solitaria de Chris Boltendhal en su "Steelhammer", algo que sinceramente me ha parecido que no ha aportado demasiado a su carrera, la banda "Grave Digger" regresa al estudio para reclamar de nuevo su territorio, de enorgullecerse de su larguísima carrera, de sus inicios clásicos que han sido su guía compositiva en todas estas décadas de discos, (ya 21 en formato LP), conformando una carrera consistente, y cada vez más fundamental para la propia histpria del heavy metal. En este año 2024 comenzamos con dos temas nuevos que forman parte de un single, con el que estrenan guitarrista Tobias Kersting, tras la salida de Alex Ritt guitarrista del grupo los últimos tres lustros. El caso es que la banda se encuentra en plena forma y así nos lo demuestran a través de esta dupla de temas, el primero de ellos "The grave is yours" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Grave Digger - Sleepless

 

SLEEPLESS

Vamos con una de esas instituciones dentro del heavy metal, los alemanes Grave Digger, que llevan ya una buena colección de décadas en activo, (desde comienzos de los 80), e igualmente llevan una buena colección de LP's, (así como 21, que ya es decir). Está claro que entre tantas obras hay momentos mejores y peores, o quizá mejor dicho momentos de un nivel medio más elevado y otros menos inspirados, pues en general las obras de esta banda suelen mantener un nivel homogéneo y alto. En 2005 el grupo sacaba uno de esos discos menos celebrados que otros, (que no ni de lejos malos) y del que siempre se pueden rescatar momentos importantes. La obra "The last Supper", fue su undécima en formato LP, y de ella hoy quiero dejar en el blog su canción "Sleepless", 100% Grave Digge, incluida como bonus fuera de la edición regular  y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Inminente ya la salida a la venta de la nusva obra de Grave Digger, para el 26 de este mes de agosto, los germanos no obstante nos animan con otro nuevo adelanto de la misma, "Heart of a warrior", que sirve para confirmar una vez más el sonido de la banda en este su vigésimo primer episodio en estudio en formato LP. Como siempre se dice a estas alturas de la película que nadie espere algo sorprendente o nuevo, ni siquiera diferente, ni falta que hace, este tipo de bandas deben seguir sonando a sí mismas, y este "heart of a warrior" es un buen ejemplo de ello, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Grave Digger ve como se va acercando la fecha de publicación oficial de su nuevo album, "Symbol of eternity", su vigésimo primer LP de estudio para agosto de este 2022 y va desvelando alguno más de los temas que formarán parte de la obra como el tema que dejo hoy en el blog, "King of the kings". Es normal en este grupo que alterne discos con un sonido más folk con otros que buscan un power heavy metal más clásico, caso en el que parece que estamos con este "Symbol of salvation" que promete en palabras de la discográfica y de la propia banda ser muy variado. Canciones para una vida - Grave Digger - Hell Is My Purgatory

 

HELL  IS  MY  PURGATORY

Sin duda alguna estamos ante la enésima juventud de los germanos "Grave Digger", una banda imprescindible desde su inicio que no hace sino subrayar esa importancia con obras como la pasada "Fields of blood" de 2020 por ejemplo, y que en este 2022 retoma otra vez la temática ya utilizada en algún otro album, concretamente en "Knights of the cross" de 1998, que no es otra que la de los cruzados. Se tratará ya de su vigésimo primer LP de estudio en una carrera que ya se va extendiendo a lo largo de cinco décadas distintas, ahí es nada. Según sus propias declaraciones estamos ante una obra contundente, variada y con alguna sorpresa, pero que al mismo tiempo mantiene todos los elementos que han hecho de su sonido su sello de identidad. El disco que llevará por título "Symbol Of Eternity" verá la luz de forma oficial a finales de agosto y su primer sencillo se llama "Hell is my purgatory", canción de la que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube en el blog.

GRAVE  DIGGER  -  THE  CLANS  WILL  RISE  AGAIN  -  (2010)

 

Cuando una banda, sea del calibre que sea, da en el blanco, es inevitable y lógico que quiera retornar por la senda que les dió el éxito en un momento concreto, aún a pesar del riesgo implicito que algo así conlleva, y es que no siempre se tiene la misma capacidad compositiva, o es muy fácil en ocasiones dejarse llevar por la idea facilona de repetirse demasiado respecto al original y por lo tanto cagarla. Grave Digger volvió con "The Clans will rise again" en 2010 por segunda vez a la temática estrictamente escocesa tras el irreprochable "Tunes Of War" de 1996, y lo hizo con acierto, evitando en su mayoría los "pecados" mencionados más arriba cuando se hacen estas operaciones, tanto es así, que en este recien pasado 2020 han retornado por tercera vez y también con bastante acierto, lo que habla de su capacidad compositiva y de su inspiración con este tema en concreto que puede darles para más en el futuro, veremos. Sea como fuere, "The clans will rise again" es una obra puramente "Grave Digger" muy del agrado de los amantes de su sonido y del que se pueden destacar muchos temas haciendo de la obra una de esas completas para disfrutarla de inicio a fin. En esta ocasión el artwork de la obra estuvo a cargo del hungaro Gyula Havancsak, quien ha realizado trabajos para bandas de renombre tales como Accept, Almanac, At Vance, Blind Guardian, Brainstorm, Burning Witches, Elvenking, Destruction, Ensiferum, Serenity, Stratovarius, Tyr, Warkings o Wisdom por citar los más reconocidos, por lo tanto una garantía de quien hoy dejo en el blog el artwork de esta obra de Grave Digger de 2010.

GRAVE  DIGGER  Tunes Of War (1996)

 

Una de las bandas a las que siempre echar mano, obra tras obra, época tras época, han sido siempre los teutones Grave Digger, uno de los grupos que mantuvieron el tipo en los difíciles comienzos de los 90, donde tantas cosas parecían terminar en lo que al sonido clásico se refiere, y otras comenzaban para después generalizarse, como el power, pero durante unos difíciles años solo unos pocos elegidos parecian hacer la transición con obras antológicas o al menos objetivamente buenas. Uno de ellos fureon por supuesto Grave Digger, Así, "The Reaper" de 1993 o "Heart Of Darkness" de 1995 ayudaron a respirar al heavy metal en esos momentos. Después llegaría la trilogía de "la Edad Media" encabezada con "Tunes Of War", en 1996, obra maestra, de comienzo a fin, uno de esos discos fundamentales, y de la que hoy dejo en el blog su "artwork", uno de los míticos en este mundillo metálico. Por cierto, el artwork de la portada de este disco fue obra de uno de los maestros en esto, Andreas Marschall, toda una garantía unida a nombres de primera línea.

Canciones para una vida - Grave Digger - The Heart Of Scotland

 

 THE  HEART  OF  SCOTLAND

Cuando hablamos de una banda capaz de editar, (por el momento) 19 LP's de estudio, lo hacemos de un grupo en el que no es raro que ellos mismos echen la vista atrás a su propia trayectoria y traten de rememorar alguno de los momentos más brillantes de la misma, algo que pueden conseguir con más o menos acierto, o incluso con una intención más o menos recaudativa, sin embargo, si atendemos solo a lo musical, se trata de una arma de doble filo, pues la jugada puede salir bien o mal. En el caso de Grave Digger, con este "Fileds Of Blood" el guiño es evidente al "Tunes Of War" del 96, obra simplemente magnífica, pero tratandose de un grupo con semejante capacidad, peronalmente considero esta "revisita temática" como un acierto, aunque siempre me he declarado admirador de esta banda alemana y quizá no sea del todo objetivo. El caso es que hoy quiero dejar en el blog otra de las canciones que componen esta obra, que considero recomendable en su conjunto. Canciones para una vida - Grave Digger - Fields Of Blood

FIELDS  OF  BLOOD

Definitivamente el regreso de Grave Digger inspirado por la historia escocesa ha resultado ser todo un acierto, quizá reforzado por el pasado de la banda en esta temática, con el inevitable "Tunes of war" del 96, posiblemente uno de los momentos estelares de la banda, y recordando tambien su segunda visita a la temática escocesa a través de su "The clans will rise again", otro gran album , parece claro que tras la escucha de este "Fields of blood", el tema escoces es un seguro de vida para Grave Digger. De nuevo una obra completa, compacta, efectiva, épica, con buen uso compositivo de coros, gaitas, además de las guitarras y demás, liricas históricas, y temas incluso largos que en ningún momento se hacen aburridos, como es el caso del tema que da nombre a la obra, "Fields of blood", de poco más de 10 minutos, con cambios y todos los elementos que han caracterizado el sonido de esta veterana ya banda alemana, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Tres de tres, los adelantos del nuevo disco de Grave Digger parecen prometer una obra que destacará entre los lanzamientos de este 2020, con ese guiño a los mejores momentos power de la historia de la banda, con la épica en los coros y en los acordes, en las letras históricas y en general en el ambiente que va envolviendo la obra que está por venir. Este tercer adelanto del "Fields Of Blood" que verá la luz de forma oficial el próximo 29 de mayo, se titula "Lions Of The Sea", tema muy en la onda épica de la banda, un tanto simple si se quiere pero igualmente efectivo, con muchos de los ingredientes típicos y esperables de Grave Digger, y de la que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

THOUSAND  TEARS

Segundo adelanto del nuevo disco de los alemanes "Grave Digger" cuya salida oficial se espera para el próximo mes de mayo, y que es una apuesta descarada por rememorar los tiempos de su aclamado "Tunes Of War", algo que en este segundo adelanto "Thousand tears" parece confirmarse en lo que resulta ser un guiño claro a "The ballad of mary" de la citada obra, en esta ocasión acompañados poruna de las voces de moda, la de "Noora Louhimo", conocida por su trabajo desde 2012 en Battle Beast sobre todo. Veremos la contundencia de la obra en su conjunto, la cual, así a través de estas primeras pinceladas parece prometer, al menos en mi humilde opinión. Canciones para una vida - Grave Digger - Knights Of The Cross

KNIGHTS  OF  THE CROSS

 Como tantas veces suele hacerse, ante la espera del momento concreto de la salida del material nuevo de una banda que nos gusta mucho, suele recurrirse a recuperar material anterior del grupo para quitarse el "mono" del sonido de dicha banda, y en esas estamos. La próxima salida de la nueva obra de los alemanes "Grave Digger" es una excelente excusa para recuperar otra de sus pasadas obras, en esta ocasión la segunda de las obras pertenecientes a la genial trilogía que supusieron los discos "Tunes of war", "Knights of the cross" y "Excalibur". Sin duda estamos ante una de las mejores épocas compositivas de la banda, y en esta segunda obra de la citada trilogía, "Knights Of The Cross" de 1998, encontramos suficientes argumentos para confirmar lo dicho, valga como ejemplo la canción que da nombre a la obra, de la que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube, Grave Digger, un valor seguro.

ALL  FOR  THE  KINGDOM

 "Fields of blood" es ya el vigésimo disco de estudio de los alemanes "Grave Digger" que nos dejan el primer adelanto de esta nueva obra cuya salida oficial se espera para el próximo mes de Mayo. En lo sonoro, a juzgar por el nuevo adelanto "All for the kingdom" se ve una perpetuación una vez más en el concepto clásico de su sonido, y en lo temático parece haber una segunda mirada hacia Escocia, rememorando alguno de los mejores momentos de la banda con su "Tunes of war" de 1996. Realmente como lograsen acercarse mínimamente a la factura de la citada obra estaríamos ante una obra más que considerable. Como digo, hasta el momento de la escucha completa de la obra vamos haciendo boca con este "All for the kingdom" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Grave Digger - Here I Stand

HERE  I  STAND

 Entrando aún en el terreno de las presentaciones editaba Grave Digger su segundo LP, "Witch Hunter", de 1985, Con la libertad implícita entre el desconocimiento aun generalizado del gran público de la banda, y, por supuesto, desconocimiento de lo que era el power que aún se estaba cocinando en esa época, más que en ninguna otra parte en la tierra natal de estos Grave Digger, Alemania. Ante tanta novedad que la época presentaba se empezaba a vislumbrar lo que sería conocido como power metal, aquí impulsado por una vertiente más oscura sobre todo el lo vocal, y más rápida sobre todo en lo instrumental, dejando entrever que estos Grave Digger que aún se presentaban a muchos tenían los mimbres de llegar a ser uno de los pioneros impulsores de dicho subgénero. Un poco a caballo entre Venom, (por lo oscuro), Judas por los riffs o Metal Church entre otros estamos ante una obra para rescatar si eres de los de la vieja guardia, o para descubrir si eres de los más modernos seguidores de esto del Heavy Metal. Obra que hará las delicias de los amantes del sonido auténtico y de la que hoy quiero dejar una canción en el blog, la enésima ya de la banda en estas páginas, en concreto "Here I Stand" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.
