Stratovarius - Galaxies - Canciones Para Una Vida

 

GALAXIES 

Los finlandeses Stratovarius son una de esas bandas tan amadas como criticadas, siempre demasiado expuestos a las más variopintas opiniones, pero innegablemente son uno de los pioneros del auge y explosión del power finlandés de los noventa y los 2000, una banda demasiado importante como para no tenerla en cuenta pienses lo que pienses sobre ellos, luego, la evolución de su carrera les ha hecho propietarios de nuevas críticas, salidas de músicos como Tolkki o variaciones en sus conceptos... lo dicho, sujetos a tan enorme exposición muchas veces injusta, como suele ser el caso en estas circunstancias. En 1995 editaban su tercer LP de estudio "Fourth Dimension" el primero con Kotipelto a la voz, que sirve para terminar de explotar a nivel internacional antes de reinar unos años en el trono de los reyes del europower, de este disco dejo hoy en el blog su canción "Galaxies" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Stratovarius - Will The Sun Rise - Canciones Para Una Vida

WILL  THE  SUN  RISE

Vamos con una obra clásica de una banda de las también clásicas dentro del power, se trata de los finlandeses Stratovarius y su "Episode", a mi parecer uno de sus mejores discos que sin duda alguna forman parte de la banda sonora de mi vida. Corría el año 1996, el heavy metal se había diversificado y como tal casi extinguido en su vertiente más clásica, y esos primeros años de los 90 sobre todo el power metal vino a llenar ese hueco compositivo en muchos metalheads, para ese año 1996, Stratovarius ya se había hecho con un nombre que con esta obra terminaría de encumbrar para hacerse una de las cabezas visibles del por entonces aún incipiente euro power caracterizado por esa cuidada producción y todos los demás atributos que nunca ha dejado de tener. De esta obra puede destacarse casi todo, y hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus singles más icónicos, "Will the sun rise", temazo del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

DREAMSPACE

"Dreamspace", de 1994, fue el tercer LP de estudio de los finlandeses Stratovarius y resulta importante por varios motivos para la banda, se trata de la última obra en la que Tolkki se encargaría de las voces, y es seguramente el primer disco que muestra con claridad hacia donde se encaminaría la carrera de la banda en el futuro, se antoja pues una pieza importante en su discografía por ello, y además de ser el punto de partida en lo que a éxito de masas se refiere del grupo, significaría poner en el mapa a Finlandia dentro del power, algo que luego ya sabemos todos como continuaría. Del disco se pueden destacar muchos momentos, uno de ellos, de los más evidentes es la canción que dio nombre a la obra y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

VOICE  OF  THUNDER

Es curioso lo que ha decidido hacer la banda finlandesa Stratovarius en este 2024, editando dos EP's con apenas un mes de separación que unido habría dado de sobra para un LP, claro está que en las explicaciones posibles a tal cuestión nos hablarán de la temática, de que son canciones conceptuales y que debían ir en dos obras diferentes, aunque tal y como está el mundo hoy en día más lo veo yo como la oportunidad de sacarle más retabilidad a lo que habría sido un album vendiendolo como dos EP's diferentes, sea como sea es una buena noticia que la banda saque habitualmente material, sobre todo si suena tan "Stratovarius" como lo hace este Demand de agosto, cinco temas de entre los que hoy dejo en el blog "Voice of thunder", recuperado de su anterior trabajo de 2022, un tema como digo muy Stratovarius, también en el apartado de la duración, once minutos, todos los ingredientes necesarios se encuentra en esta salsa, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Despues de darles varias veces por terminados, por varios motivos o enfocado a varias circunstancias diferentes, lo cierto es que los finlandeses Stratovarius continuan con su carrera dando pasos siempre al frente y aumentando su leyenda para bien o para mal según el prisma, detractores o defensores, los de la vieja escuela y los más nuevos seguidores, el caso es que siguen dando señales de efectividad y unido a su calidad musical, experiencia e historia personal, hace que al menos uno tenga que echar un vistazo a cada nueva propuesta compositiva. En este 2024 por el momento nos dejan otro EP, "Heroes" con cinco temas, de los que dejo hoy en el blog el que da nombre al EP, "Heroes" del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su lyric video oficial.

THE  KISS  OF  JUDAS

Indudablemente, en el mejor momentos de su carrera en lo que a popularidad se refiere e igualmente en lo referente a la composición, los finlandeses Stratovarius eran referente del sonido que iba a copar gran parte del sonido metálico de los años finales de los 90 y la primera mitad de los 2000, el llamado "Europower". El equilibrio en este LP es total, la obra se ha ganado un lugar de privilegio en los corazones de muchos metalheads, y con todo merecimiento, y hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus temas icónicos, "The kiss of judas" del que hoy quiero dejar un enlace a youtube en el blog.

GLORY  DAYS

Claramente a estos finlandeses no se les ha olvidado como componer cnaciones con gancho, como rememorar sus tiempos pasados en los que eran cabeza visible e influjo internacional dentro del power metal. A pesar de la salida de Tolkki hace ya más de una década de la banda, Kotipelto y los suyos han continuado , con algunos altibajos eso sí, en el concepto que ha dado forma a la historia del grupo. Una vez más estamos ante un grupo cuyo nombre es reconocido por todos dentro de nuestro mundillo, y tanta exposición ya se sabe que crea simpatías y antipatías a partes iguales, eso es casi una ley que aquí no cambiará. Buen ejemplo de esa facilidad de la banda para recrear su propio sonido es la canción "Glory Days" de la que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube. Stratovarius, ni más ni menos.

Canciones para una vida - Stratovarius - Frozen In Time

 

FROZEN  IN  TIME

En breve ya veremos publicado de forma oficial el nuevo LP de los finlandeses Stratovarius, el que será ya el décimo sexto de la discografía de la banda, de título "Survive" y cuya fecha exacta para ponerse a la venta será pasado mañana día 23 de Octubre. Tras siete años de silencio, y a juzgar por los adelantos que han mostrado de la nueva obra parece que estamos ante un disco importante de esta 2022, parecen recuperarse los rasgos clásicos que han hecho de su sonido lo reconocible que fue siempre, y en este caso apuntan a sus mejores momentos, veremos en su conjunto el disco entero sigue por esa senda. El tercero de los singles es "Frozen in time", que recupera los camios de ritmo, con aire untanto progresivo sin llegar a ello completamente, un tema del que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a oyutube.

DESTINY

A esas alturas de la carrera musical de los finlandeses Stratovarius, (finales de los 90), la banda tenía un estatus, un nivel de influencia y un tiron de ventas como pocas otras bandas en clave de europower tenían a nivel planetario, y es que la verdad es que venían de hacer las cosas muy bien y además de aprovechar el hecho de encabezar ese movimiento en una importante escena como la de su país siendo referentes allí y no solo. Siempre destacaron por saber aprovechar muy bien sus recursos y sin ser la mejor banda en cada aspecto por separado, la cohesión de cada elemento en la amalgama llamada Stratovarius les hizo llegar a casi cada rincon del planeta metálico. Para 1998 editaban ya su séptimo LP de estudio, "Destiny" que traía a cuestas la dificultad de ser el continuador de las obras "Episode" de 1996 y "Visions" del 97, que cumplió con creces al menos el apartado de ventas, como digo se trataba de ese momento de la banda en el que todo lo que oliese a Stratovarius era muy cotizado. De este disco quiero hoy dejar en el blog otro de sus temas, en esta ocasión el que dió nombre a la obra, "Destiny", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

El segundo adelanto de lo nuevo de los finlandeses Stratovarius se titula "World on fire" y nos muestra una cara sonora mucho más al estilo clásico de los singles de la banda décadas atrás, si bien quizá no sea un tema tan rápido a la hora de meterse en tu cabeza, con un poco de menos gancho, en seguida el estribillo rondará tu cerebro y se traducirá en el inevitable tararéo. se tratará del décimo séptimo LP de estudio de la banda y su salida oficial no se hará efectiva hasta finales de septiembre. Canciones para una vida - Stratovarius - Survive

 

SURVIVE

Otro de los grandes nombres y uno de los pioneros en resucitar, o engrandecer, o agigantar a la escena finesa poniendola en la década de los 90 completamente de moda a nivel internacional fueron Stratovarius, quienes apesar de las idas de nombres importantes, destacando sobre todo el de Timo Tolkki, ha sabido rehacerse perfectamente y en estos días nos presentan los primeros detalles de la que será su décimo séptima obra de estudio, "Survive" para septiembre, a través del single que dará nombre a la obra, "Survive". Tras siete años de silencio entre este y su anterior trabajo, el título de la nueva obra habla de ellos mismos como banda, del futuro de nuestro planeta así como de la situación social actual. Canciones para una vida - Stratovarius - Future Shock

 

FUTURE  SHOCK

Si hace unos días hablaba en el blog de las segunda obra de estos finlandeses hoy es momento de dedicarle unas palabras a su debut de 1989. Estamos ante un disco que atraería las miradas de muchos, salidos de la nada, en una escena que en esos instantes aún estaba en pañales como era la finlandesa y que en parte por el empuje de Stratovarius terminaría por llegar a ser una de las más importantes y así continúa siendo. Estamos ante una obra que en muchos otros lugares pasaría desapercibida y que llegaría a los oidos de la mayoría demasiado tarde quizá, cuando la banda cosechaba ya el éxito de obras como Fourth dimension o Episode, y claro, echar la vista atrás en ese instante puede hacer juzgar la obra inicial, "Fright Night" de forma injusta, primero por su condición de debut, y también por su falta de medios en el momento de su publicación sin el apoyo que luego tendrían. Sin embargo, con su buena acogida, sobre todo en el mercado japones, la banda creció desde el primer momento para alcanzar las grandes cotas de éxito que luego alcanzarían. Tolkki además se encargaba de las voces, sin ser por supuesto el mejor de los vocalistas, pero demostrando su capacidad compositiva en una obra que el tiempo va poniendo en su alto lugar a pesar de su producción un tanto "Inexperimentada" podríamos decir. En cualquier caso, un disco fundamental en los campos del power, de la que se pueden destacar varios momentos, como el que la abre, "Future shock" de la que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube, Historia power para hoy.

Muchos son los motivos por los que traer este album al blog, motivos como el disco en sí mismo, como los que significa el grupo en el power internacional histórico y contemplar sus inicios en esta su segunda obra, o por ver esa otra versión de la banda con el propio Tolkki a la voz, un poco rememorando a los primeros Helloween con hansen cantando también. Twilight Time, de 1992 es una de esas obras importantes históricamente por lo que supuso posteriormente no solo para la banda sino para otras que vieron en este grupo un espejo donde mirarse. En este momento de la historia de los finlandeses su sonido, más allá de la producción menos "fina", más barata, pero meritoriamente auto producida, los qrgumentos progresivos afloran, y un cierto aire oscurillo también, una obra que pilló por sorpresa a los propios músicos tras la gran acogida de su debur del 89 sobre todo en Japón que reclamo una versión propia para ellos con la portada que al fin ha llegado a quedarse en la retina del 90% de los metalheads y el nombre de "Twilight Time" que originalmente para el resto del planeta fue "II". Buenos temas para este disco que presagiaba que el grupo llegaría bien arriba, entre ellos destacar hoy en el blog "Break the ice", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Stratovarius - Few Are Those

FEW  ARE  THOSE

Poco que decir a estas alturas de una banda como Stratovarius, con una evolución a lo largo del tiempo en la que han pasado de unos inicios en que encabezaban el nuevo power europeo emergente, sobre todo en su Finlandia natal antes de la mega explosión de grupos punteros que se dio en dicho país, a comenzar a "zozobrar" con la final salida del principal impulsor del grupo durante muchos años Timo Tolkki, y el cambio progresivo de rol del grupo en la escena internacional. Siempre he visto la trayectoria del grupo desde la perspectiva de, al inicio ser un grupo fundamental dentro del género, una banda de "discos completos" a un papel más secundario en la última década y pico, claramente con una sensación de grupo "de canciones" concretas ya que una obra entera se me antoja actualmente demasiado homogenea y carente del suficiente filo. Quizá la formula Stratovarius haya sido ya demasiado explotada y tan solo los destellos más brillantes del grupo sea lo que, añadido a la innegable calidad de los músicos aquí implicados, haga que destaquen algunos temas del los últimos discos. Hoy quiero traer al blog una de esas canciones, concretamente una del último disco editado por la banda hasta la fecha de esta reseña, de su disco "Eternal", de 2015, décimo sexta obra de estudio del grupo, en una carrera musical que supera ya los 30 años de historia, y del que hoy quiero dejar un enlace a youtube de su tema "Few Are Those".

Canciones para una vida - Stratovarius - Infinity

INFINITY

Noveno disco de estudio de los finlandeses Stratovarius, "Infinite", de 2000, en pleno éxito internacional de la banda. Resulta innegable que la banda gozaba del favor del gran público en ese momento, situándose en la cima del power internacional tras los exitosos albumes anteriores, pero, para la ocasión, el estilo de la banda comenzaba a cambiar de dirección, haciéndose mucho más sinfónico, si se quiere incluso más progresivo, y porqué no, más "ñoño" aunque sonoramente impecable y enganchón. Eso daría el portazo a los seguidores primeros del grupo, en un protopower más sincero si se quiere, menos vendible, pero terminaría de abrir por otra parte las puertas a la gran masa de seguidores internacionales que disfrutaba de todo lo que llevase la marca Stratovarius. En mi opinión este disco iniciaría un camino descendente que terminaría por desembocar en la futura salida de Tolkki de la banda años después tras haber ido poco a poco "Tolkkineando" a la banda en exceso, perdiéndose en ese ramalazo un tanto "ñoño" que se gasta el por otra parte genial guitarrista finlandés, en que pierde la efectividad en aras de ese sentimiento de "divo" que siempre me ha dado la sensación de tener. Sea como sea la obra "Infinite" es uno de los últimos grandes discos de Stratovarius, o el último gran disco, impecable en muchos aspectos, y de él hoy quiero dejar un tema en el blog. He escogido "Infinity" por aglutinar en un solo tema gran parte de las virtudes de la banda y pocos de sus defectos, un largo tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Stratovarius - S.O.S.

S.O.S.

Poca presentación necesita esta banda finlandesa, una de las primeras impulsoras del sonido finlandés power a nivel internacional y que ayudaría a esa mega explosión de grupos de ese pequeño país europeo que es sin embargo un gigante a nivel sonoro. Hoy quiero traer un tema del disco "Destiny", una obra en la que la banda se encontraba en uno de sus momentos más exitosos, tras ya en ese momento una carrera llena de éxitos, con obras como "Episode" o "Visions" llegaba este "Destiny" de 1998, un disco en el que la banda tenía la misión de mantener las expectativas creadas anteriormente siendo como digo un referente en la escena power internacional. Tras una serie de giras a nivel mundial editan este disco con muy buena acogida entre publico y medios especializados, que seria otro gran éxito de ventas y terminaría por hacer de Stratovarius un grupo indispensable en cualquier evento metálico que se preciase. Es un disco además en el que la banda muestra signos evolutivos en su sonido, más hacia un estilo un pelo más sinfónico, algo que explotarían más adelante quizá en exceso. De esta obra se puede indudablemente destacar un montón de temas lo que sin duda habla siempre de una obra como completa, y este es un caso más, un disco de esos que hay que tener, sobre todo si lo tuyo es el power de corte europeo. Hoy quiero destacar el single "S.O.S.", tema absolutamente "made in stratovarius", uno de sus singles de manual y que no podía faltar en un repaso de las canciones para una vida, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Stratovarius - Unbreakable

UNBREAKABLE

Hablar de Stratovarius es hablar de una banda que ha generado, genera y generará mientras exista todo tipo de sensaciones y comentarios. Esto se debe al gran éxito que cosechó en los 90 y que abrió de par en par las puertas de un mercado tan importante como aparentemente inacabable como el finlandés a todo el planeta. Es innegable que fueron una de las cabezas visibles del power europeo y eso, además de muy complicado, hace que se mire con lupa todo lo que haces o no, recibiendo criticas tanto si evolucionas como si te estancas, algo que termina creando una tensión muy grande dentro de las bandas en las que sucede, quizá por ello el alma mater por excelencia de Stratovarius, Tolkky, llegado a cierto punto abandonó el barco dejando el destino de la banda en el otro Timo, (Kotipelto). Hoy en día, tras ya cuatro discos de estudio sin Tolkky, es evidente que la banda tiene toda la pinta de continuar, también evidentemente sin el lustre pasado de obras como "Episode" o "Visions", pero con ese toque tan enganchón y elegante que saben darle estos chicos a casi cada obra que componen. Un nuevo ejemplo es el tema que dejo en el blog hoy, "Unbreakable", de su penúltimo y decimoquinto disco de estudio "Nemesis", de 2013, y del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Stratovarius - Paradise

PARADISE

Esta gran banda finlandesa es evidentemente otra de esas que no necesita de ninguna presentación. Dos grandes nombres han marcado la historia de este grupo, Timo Tolkki a la guitarra y Timo Kotipelto a la voz, a pesar de que ninguno de ellos fuera miembro fundador de la banda. El primero de ambos que se incorporó fue Tolkki muy al principio tocando desde la primera obra de estudio y ocupándose de las funciones de vocalista también en los tres primeros discos. En 1994, y para la grabación de su quinta obra Fourth dimension se incorpora Kotipelto a la voz. Desde esa época el grupo no dejó de crecer y crecer y podemos decir que su éxito fue el abono perfecto para el sugimiento posterior de tantas y tan impresionantes bandas finlandesas en el escenario internacional. Tras más de 25 años de carrera y 14 discos de estudio hasta la fecha de esta reseña he querido recomendaros este clásico Black Diamond de uno de sus discos más aclamados, el Visions de 1997 donde encontrareis los elementos clásicos de la banda con un power metal melódico de magnífica factura en el que la mayoría de canciones por no decir todas hacen de este disco una de sus obras cumbre en uno de sus momentos de mejor forma musical. En torno a 2004 comenzaron los problemas de Tokki en la banda que acabaría con la salida de este. Volviendo a este "Visions" hoy quiero dejar otra de sus canciones, en esta ocasión "Paradise", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube, una muestra más de la calidad de estos chicos.

Canciones para una vida - Stratovarius - Until The End Of Days

UNTIL THE END OF DAYS

Nuevo recopilatorio de los finlandeses Stratovarius, una banda que evidentemente no necesita de presentación alguna y a la que ya he hecho referencia en el blog en más de una ocasión y más que vendrán en el futuro pues su extensa y de calidad obra da para más de una reseña. Hoy quiero hacer referencia a este nuevo recopilatorio de lo mejor de su carrera, y digo un nuevo recopilatorio porque ya han editado 5, este será el sexto. Realmente me refiero a esta obra por dos motivos, el primero es el tema que dejo en el blog, este "Until the end of days" ya que se trata de un tema completamente nuevo editado para la ocasión, que sin duda no será el más destacado de la historia de la banda, pero que resultará resultón a los seguidores del sonido típico de Stratovarius. El segundo motivo por el que me refiero a este recopilatorio es la extensión del mismo, ya que va a ser editado con tres discos, dos de los temas en estudio con un total de 29 temas de toda su carrera, y un tercer disco con temas grabados en el "Wacken" de 2015, esto representa una excusa perfecta para repasar toda su historia y que hará las delicias de su gran legión de seguidores a lo largo y ancho del planeta. Se espera su salida para día 6 de Mayo, hasta entonces dejo en el blog un enlace al tema especialmente grabado para la ocasión, el inédito "Until the end of days" del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su lyric video oficial.
