TEN  THOUSAND  WAYS  TO  DIE

Vamos hoy con un poquito de death metal, de una de esas bandas que en lo suyo se antoja fundamental, unos de los de la vieja guardia en el género, formados en 1988 bajo este nombre de Obituary, ya llevaban estos estadounidenses una cierta trayectoria para entonces a sus espaldas bajo los nombres de Executioner primero y Xecutioner despues, (entre 1984 y 1988). El caso es que estamos ante unos músicos experimentados, reputados, convencidos de lo que hacen y es que su estilo no ha cambiado practicamente desde sus comienzos. Hoy quiero ilustrar esto último con una de sus últimas obras editadas a fecha de esta reseña, el disco homónimo al nombre de la banda, de 2017, que supone su décimo album de estudio y de momento penúltimo, y de él dejo en el blog el tema "Ten thousand ways to die" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Holy Blood - By Fire And Sword

Vamos hoy con un poquito de death melódico de corte folk y de la escuela nordica, en este caso de origen ucraniano, por lo que la parte folk tiene un claro sonido ruso digamos, un tanto al estilo Arkona. La banda se llama "Holy Blood" y llevan en activo ya más de dos décadas, desde 1999, aunque su repercusión inicial dificilmente podría haber alcanzado cotas internacionales ya que sus primeros 5 albumes están cantados en su lengua materna, algo dificil de vender al gran público. Es desde 2017 desde el año en que deciden intentar la conquista del mercado internacional cambiando la lengua de su música al ingles, editando ese mismo año su primer material, "Glory to the heroes" en este caso en formato EP, al que seguiría en 2019 un nuevo LP, "Voice of blood". En general lo dicho, death melódico, con tintes a lo Arkona, y un toque folk muy ruso, con coros contundentes buscando una épica un tanto tosca pero efectiva. Canciones para una vida - Chronomancy - Emperor Of The Fading Suns & March Of The Swordmaster

 

EMPEROR  OF  THE  FADING  SUNS  &  MARCH  OF  THE  SWORDMASTER

Continuando con ese momento dulce de la escena griega hoy traigo a l blog a otra de sus bandas, otra de las que se han formado de forma relativamente reciente, (2010), que practica un power metal de corte épico, presentando muchos de esos elementos citados en las bandas griegas, en esta ocasión sin llegar a caer tanto en esa vertiente "True". El grupo ha presentado ya varios cambios en su formación y desde su creación han editado dos LP's de estudio, el último de ellos de reciente factura, este mes y del que hablaré en otra ocasión seguramente, y un EP en 2017 del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de los temas que lo componen, en concreto el que abre la obra más su intro previa, "Emperor of the fading suns & March of the swordmaster", temática épica, acompañada como digo por muchos de los clichés de género y de la escena nativa de la banda, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

BLOOD

Estamos ante otro ejemplo de banda que, a pesar de haber estado haciendo las cosas bien, en lo que a nivel compositivo e interpretativo se refiere, sin embargo la suerte en forma de reconocimiento no les ha sonreido por el momento, a pesar también de una ya larga carrera que comenzase allá por el año 2003, habiendo editado en esos años de actividad un total de cinco LP's de estudio. Novon son alemanes y su niño sonoro se situa en un power heavy metal, de corte europeo. Desde luego no dejan nada que desear con respecto a otras bandas similares con mejor suerte, pero una vez más hay demasiados factores en esto de la música que a veces hacen que uno piense que el éxito es un poco caprichoso. Hoy quiero volver a traer al blog el último de los discos publicados hasta la fecha de esta reseña, "The warrior`s fate", de 2017, y de él dejo el tema "Blood" como ejemplo de buen hacer, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Eclipse - The Downfall Of Eden

 

THE  DOWNFALL  OF  EDEN

Es exagerado el número de bandas que han escogido el nombre de "Eclipse" para desarrollar su carrera musical, ahora que miraba de nuevo los datos de la salida del nuevo LP de los suecos me he fijado en este dato, obviamente me quiero volver a referir a los fenomenales autores de "Monumentum" entre otras obras, y de la que hoy haré referencia en el blog. Como digo, mientras esperamos la salida en octubre del nuevo material de la banda es siempre una buena idea repasar la historia del grupo que de momento se compone de 7 albumes de estudio más el octavo "Wired" citado que se editará en octubre. Su facilidad para crear ese sonido tan enganchón es impresionante, al igual que las colaboraciones que algunos de sus miembros, (sobre todo Eric Martensson, guitarra, bajo y cantante), han realizado fuera de la banda madre, W.E.T., Gathering Of Kings, Nordic Union....Parecen haber encontrado la fórmula y esperemos la repitan muchos años. "Monumentum" de 2017, su sexto LP fue el punto definitivo seguramente de evolución, podríamos decir, de ese punto de confianza y asentamiento que alcanza una banda y que marca la diferencia, una obra de la que hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus temas, y uno de los que más me gustan de dicho disco es "The downfall of eden", canción de la que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Lancer - Freedom Eaters

 

FREEDOM  EATERS

Lancer es una banda sueca, uno de esos grupos que llevo mucho tiempo queriendo traer al blog pero que siempre por uno u otro motivo termino dejando de lado, a pesar de todo, aunque hoy parece que ya no lo voy a demorar más. Hablamos de power de corte europeo, power de ese un pelín acelerado, flirteando con ese heavy acelerado que se dio por llamar speed metal, aunque terminan teniendo un nexo mayor con la etiqueta power. Llevan en activo desde el año 2009, tiempo en el que han editado 3 LP's y un EP. En realidad actualmente la banda solo cuenta con uno de los miembros originales y en 2018 una de las señas de la banda Isak Stenvall dejo su puesto de cantante. Si tenemos en cuenta que también el puesto de batería está recién cubierto, y que su último trabajo editado es de 2017, "Mastery", miro el futuro de la banda con curiosidad de por donde van a salir, aunque seguro que su continuidad no estará en peligro por ese motivo. Como digo tres LP's adornan su discografía y hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de las canciones pertenecientes a su tercer y, hasta la fecha de esta reseña, último trabajo de estudio, "Mastery" de 2017, en concreto "Freedom Eaters" donde muestran bien claro cuales son sus gustos compositivos.

Si en la anterior entrada hablaba del heavy metal original, el de comienzos de los ochenta, en esta ocasión hablaré de una de esas bandas que apropiandose de aquel espíritu primigenio decidieron aplicarlo conceptualmente al siglo XXI, y claro, para los amantes del sonido clásico dentro del heavy metal la noticia no podría ser mejor, es de hecho, todo un nuevo movimiento que recupera esa esencia dentro de la escena actual, un movimiento no enfocado en una sola nación o escena sino que se trata de algo planetario, y entre ellos están estos "Metalian" desde Canada, como uno de los ejemplos destacados. Como digo todo amante del heavy de la old school gsutará de escuchar a esta banda formada en 2003 y ya con 3 LP's de estudio. Canciones para una vida - Excalion - Divergent Falling

 

DIVERGENT  FALLING 

Dejamos hoy de lado el concepto de la old school, del heavy metal clásico para adentrarnos en los territorios más ornamentados del power metal, y hablar de los finlandeses "Excalion", otra de esas bandas cuya carrera ha pasado en gran medida desapercibida para el gran público siendo esta ya en longevidad más que respetable, desde 2000 en adelante, llegando al presente con una discografía adornada con cinco LP's llenos de melodia y buen hacer. Se trata de uno de esos grupos que presentan un concepto que da importancia a los teclados, muy de la escuela finesa y sueca del subgénero power, que gustará a seguidores de los "Stratovarius, Leverage" y compañía . Su último LP es de 2019 y parecen haber dado un aire nuevo a su carrera en está última década con la incorporación también del cantante Marcus Lang que militase en Force Majeure. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de las canciones que componen su penúltimo Lp de estudio, la cuarta de sus obras, "Dream Alive" de 2017. Varios son los candidatos a incluir de los temas que la componen, hoy me decantaré por este "Divergent Falling" que abre la obra, y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Ereb Altor - Wolfcurse

  

WOLFCURSE

La banda sueca "Ereb Altor" es un grupo de esos que van a lo suyo, una de esas bandas que se centran en el sonido que quieren crear independientemente de ventas oo críticas, sin apenas apoyo discográfico y con espejos en los que mirarse que tampoco escogieron el camino de las ventas, pero que si han terminado conquistando el reconocimiento, como puede ser "Bathory". Hablamos de calidad, de un concepto oscuro aunque melódico, lleno de matices, un género dificil de hacer llegar a cantidad de fans, pero que hace que los fieles al sonido lo sigan siendo en general. El punto acustico podría abrirles muchas puertas pero el regusto oscuro vocla y atmosférico puede cerrarselas a esos potenciales seguidores, y viceversa. El caso es que la banda lleva ya en activo desde 2003, y en este tiempo han editado ya 8 LP's y un EP. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de las canciones de su, hasta la fecha de esta reseña, penúltimo LP de estudio, "Ulfven" de 2017, la canción "Wolfcurse" con sus características más notables, y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Custard - Sign Of Evil

SIGN  OF  EVIL

Vamos de nuevo con un poquito de heavy metal power metal de caracter épico, de ese con tufillo "True", en el que las espadas, las batallas, el concepto ultraheavy está a la orden del día, en esta ocasión encarnado en los alemanes "Custard". Quiero de nuevo traer al blog uno de los temas del que, hasta la fecha de esta reseña, es el último LP publicado de los 6 que componen su discografía, "A realm of tales" de 2017. Estamos ante una obra en la que la banda despliega todo su buen hacer para una obra bastante completa. Hemos de tener en cuenta que estamos ante una banda que lleva un monton de años en esto de la música, ya que el grupo se forma en 1987 nada menos, aunque funcionaron un monton de años en la escena underground de su país, comenzando a editar música solo a partir de 1996 con su EP "God Of Storm". Así que si atendemos al tiempo de actividad si que se antoja un tanto escasa su discografía, pero es lo que hay. El material en general es interesante si gustas de ese power épico al que me referia al inicio, y otro buen ejemplo es la canción que dejo hoy en el blog, "Sign of evil", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Battle Beast - King For A Day

KING  FOR  A  DAY

 El cuarto LP de los finlandeses "Battle Beast" es un buen ejemplo del sonido actual de la banda, siempre con el asunto de la salida de Anton Kabanen de la banda, el motor compositivo hasta el anterior trabajo del grupo, pero que poco a poco van superando con la demostración de la efectiva manera de componer su sonido en la era post Kabanen, y es de justicia reconocer que la banda está en pelna forma y seguramente ha encontrado su propia identidad. El sonido power "popero", vendible, un tanto "facilón" queda patente en temas como este "King for a day" que no puedes sacar facilmente de tu cabeza desde el inicio, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Dream Troll - Mons Ominosus

MONS  OMINOSUS

 Dream Troll es un grupo británico de reciente formación que practica un power heavy metal, que, como en tantas bandas últimamente, se ve un giro hacia el sonido tradicional de los grandes años de la original década de los 80. Ese sonido menos adornado, más básico en lo que a estructura se refiere, sin arreglos, cuya base melódica hay que buscarla sobre todo en las guitarras, un paso hacia la autenticidad si se quiere que estos británicos también practican. Nacidos en 2015, el grupo ha editado dos LP's de estudio, en 2017 y 2019 y un EP en 2018. Hoy quiero echar un vistazo al inicio de su carrera, hacia su primer material publicado, "The Knight of rebellion" de 2017, un disco editado sin apoyo discográfico, como hasta ahora toda su carrera musical, autoproducida de manera independiente, lo que en absoluto, una vez más, tiene porque redundar en algo negativo. De este disco debut hoy quiero dejar en el blog la canción "Mons Ominosus", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

THE  HAIL

Seguimos con el enorme repunte del metal proveniente desde Suecia, una patria por otra parte históricamente importante de nuestro sonido y de la música en general, pero que, como digo, últimamente ha sufrido un nuevo repunte con bandas clásicas y nuevas dando material nuevo al planeta metálico, y hoy, de nuevo, quiero dejar en el blog una canción de una de esas bandas nuevas que ha entrado con fuerza, con una completa obra interesante, que en el pasado 2017 nos dejaron su debut con un gran sabor de boca pensando el en lo que pueda estar por venir de ellos. Retorno en esta ocasión a la primera y , hasta la fecha de esta reseña, única obra de estudio de la banda griega "Paladine", para dejar en el blog otra de las canciones extraída de dicho LP, "Finding solace" de 2017. Estamos ante un grupo de power metal, con un sonido que responde bastante a lo esperable ante bandas del estilo, pero con un buen gusto compositivo destacable. Temáticas fantásticas incluidas. Bien compuesto, equilibrado, respondiendo al subgénero además con cierta personalidad propia en lo sonoro, haciendo de ese sonido una mezcla interesante sobre la que sobre vuela continuamente el sonido de los grandes clásicos. dejo sin más la canción "Master of present and past" como otra buena carta de presentación de esta banda que para mi gusto está comenzando con buen pie su carrera, veremos donde les lleva.

Tercera ocasión en la que acudo a esta obra y esta banda aún completamente desconocida, los polacos "Lux Perpetua". Si algo puede decirse de esta obra y de su estilo sería que se trata de un compendio de lo que debe ser un disco de power europeo de manual, con todos y cada uno de los clichés esperados en el subgénero que hará las delicias de los amantes del mismo. Poco más que añadir que lo hecho en las anteriores citadas entradas, tan solo dejar esta otra canción perteneciente a la misma, "The curse of the iron king" de 2017, concretamente "An old bard" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

BLACK  FLAG

Otro ejemplo más de como hacer las cosas bien en general, (en lo que se refiere a la carrera musical en su conjunto), y en particular, ( en lo que se refiere a su última obra en concreto), es la banda americana "Iced Earth", y su disco "Incorruptible" de 2017. Los estadounidenses han dado en el clavo una vez más con este su décimo tercer LP en una carrera musical que se extiende ya por tres décadas, más aún si tenemos en cuenta sus inicios bajo otros nombres, "The Rose" y "Purgatory", en que nos tendíamos que remontar a 1984. Es evidente la calidad contrastada de estos músicos, y ya he hablado de esta obra con anterioridad en el blog, y hoy quiero dejar otra de las canciones de esta, hasta la fecha de esta reseña, última obra de la banda, "Incorruptible", concretamente la canción "Black Flag", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

MAN  OF  THE  80's

En este año en el que el cantante noruego Jorn Lande cumple el medio siglo sobre la tierra, es una buena excusa para echar la mirada atrás y hacer algún repasillo a su extensa carrera de la que ya he dado cuenta anteriormente en el blog en alguna ocasión. Hoy quiero hablar de la parte final de esta carrera, concretamente de su décimo tercer disco de estudio bajo su propio nombre, "Life on death road" de 2017. Siempre que hablamos del material en solitario de este músico nos tenemos que referir a un heavy metal con tintes tanto de power en ocasiones, como un tanto heavy hard en otras e incluso flirteando con pasajes progresivos aquí y allá. El tono característico de su voz le ha hecho merecedor de no pocas ofertas de participación en proyectos diversos ya que su calidad es sin duda indiscutible. Retornando a su última obra publicada, a fecha de esta reseña, la mencionada "Life on death road" de 2017, quiero dejar en el blog la canción "Man of the 80's", una especie de homenaje a la década de la que ha sacado no pocas influencias y que le vio crecer en ilusión profesional dando sus primeros pasos casi al final de dicha década en varios grupos. Una canción que reune muchas de las virtudes de este músico y de la que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube de su lyric video oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Almanac - Hail To The King

HAIL  TO  THE  KING

El segundo LP de la banda del Ex Rage Victor Smolsky se titula "Kingslayer", de 2017. En esta segunda entrega de la banda vemos una reafirmación de todos los conceptos mostrados en su debut, haciendo notar que aquello mostrado en 2015 no era flor de un día y que este "Almanac" es una banda con intenciones de hacerse un hueco a largo plazo en esto de la música. Afianzado pues como grupo en lo compositivo como en la formación que lo compone, con la presencia de los mismos integrantes en el apartado vocal, destacando David Readman, uno de esos reconocidos y reconocibles cantantes con una dilatada ya carrera musical a sus espaldas. En este Kingslayer encontramos muchas, o todas las virtudes que la banda mostró ya en su primer LP, y es que la categoría técnica de los músicos aquí presentes, añadida a lo variado de las influencias musicales que hacen de este tipo de discos algo realmente interesante. Canciones para una vida - Pink Cream 69 - Bloodsucker

BLOODSUCKER

Una de las bandas que pueden llevar bien a gusto el estilo sobre sus hombres de Power metal melódico podría ser Pink Cream 69, la banda alemana que lleva ya desde 1987 en esto de la música habiendo atravesado más de una época diferente, marcada siempre por el puesto del cantante, que inicialmente ocupase Andi Deris, para pasarle el testigo en 1994 al fantástico cantante Dennis Ward, que desde entonces continua al frente del grupo. Siempre, igualmente, es un seguro de vida encontrar en cada una de las obras de la banda más de una canción reseñable, con momentos realmente buenos y disco completos que señalar, en ocasiones más rozando un power hard rock, o un heavy power, siempre melódico. El pasado 2017 fue la fecha escogida para editar su décimo segundo disco de estudio, "Headstrong", tras cuatro años de sequía compositiva. También es justo reseñar que creo, personalmente, que la banda no está en su época más brillante, pero, retomando el argumente de que siempre hay algo "que rascar" en el material compuesto por grupos de este calibre, quiero dejar en el blog hoy una canción de este último trabajo publicado por la banda a fecha de esta reseña, concretamente la canción "Bloodsucker", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

MAN  THE  PUMPS

Poco más que añadir a lo citado anteriormente en lo que a la banda se refiere tanto como en lo que al álbum, "No grave but the sea", quinto de la banda, de 2017, se refiere, buen power, enganchón, fácil de digerir desde la primera escucha, y líricamente loo y gamberro, marca ya de la casa. Este disco cumple perfectamente lo esperado de una obra de la banda, repleto de temas cortos y directos, que se meten rápido en la cabeza, y del que hoy traigo al blog otra de las canciones, "Man the pumps", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube. "Alestorm" toda una marca ya en si misma que además va creando escuela.
