THROES  OF  ATONEMENT

Desde 2018 los italianos Elvenking se embarcaron en una trilogía que en este inminente 2025 verá su culminación ante el tercer capítulo de la misma "Reader of the runes Luna" cuya salida oficial se espera para el 11 de abril. En estos días han presentado otro de los adelantos de la obra "Throes of atonement" a través del cual reivindican con orgullo el colofón de la citada trilogía al que tildan de épico y melancólico, oscuro pero esperanzador al mismo tiempo, personalmente a mí me ha parecido este tema un poco más power, un poco menos gotiquillo, más echando la mirada a los mejores momentos de la banda, pero hasta no escuchar la obra en su conjunto será dificil sacar una conclusión. Canciones para una vida - Elvenking - Ethel

 

ETHEL

Los italianos Elvenking muestran en este 2024 el primer paso hacia su nuevo LP que teoricamente cerrará su trilogía de las "Runas" a través del single "Ethel", un tema a medio gas, con un ambiente bastante bucólico, en su tradición "folky". La verdad es que esta banda hace mucho ya que me resulta un tanto predecible y sus obras algo dificiles de digerir sobre todo de una sentada, cada vez más lejos del concepto inicial de power con elementos folk, poderoso y en ocasiones oscuro que tanto me deslumbró con su debut por ejemplo, pero como en tantos otros casos los tiempos pasados dificilmente volverán, sin embargo hay siempre momentos en sus obras que me hacen seguir retornando a sus propuestas nuevas, y en este caso concreto el tema "Ethel" en su onda me resulta bastante atractivo. THE  WINTER  WAKE

Siempre tiendo a buscar el primer material de esta banda italiana, "Elvenking" a la hora de enfrentarme a su discografía, y es que, sobre todo en el caso de su debut, su propuesta resultaba especialmente atractiva, quiza novedosa en algún aspecto y después, aunque reconozca su valía la verdad es que se ha transformado en una banda algo monótona para mi gusto. Hoy, por lo tanto, quiero retornar a su tercera obra de estudio, "The winter wake", donde aún parecía que seguían creciendo, que tenían un futuro más brillante, que podían llegar a la cima, cosa que sin desmerecer su quehacer, no se ha producido a ese nivel que prometían. De la citada tercera obra, de 2006, quiero hoy dejar el tema que la daba nombre, "The winter wake" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Elvenking - Rapture

 

RAPTURE

 Con la eterna sensación que tengo con esta banda, ambivalente, por una parte de cierto aburrimiento basado sobre todo en la parte más reciente de su carrera, monotonía, que me hace casi imposible la escucha de uno de sus últimos disco seguido, y por otra el descubrimiento de alguna canción concreta que me devuelve la ilusión con la que los descubrí en su debut, allá por 2001, pero claro, es que con "Heathenreel" estamos ante palabras mayores, sobre todo para un debut, y ese punto de atracción me duró buena parte de su carrera inicial, sobre todo en sus tres LP's iniciales, luego eso, altibajos, ultimamente más bajos. Pero el caso es que sigo acudiendo a la cita con sus obras nuevas, con esa esperanza que suele diluirse, y este nuevo disco a partes iguales me da esa sensación de esperanza y resignación, veremos. El primer adelanto del nuevo disco, "Reader of the runes - Rapture", que verá la luz de forma oficial en abril de 2023, el undécimo de la discografía de la banda, el segundo de la trilogía que van crear en formato temático, se titula "Rapture" y de él dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

THE  DIVIDED  HEART

Larga es ya la carrera de los italianos "Elvenking", un grupo que lleva desde 1997 en activo y que desde el principio hiiceron una apuesta personal por buscar su propio sonido y su propio camino, logrando una huella propia sonora reconocible enseguida. Por otra parte, esta es una de esas bandas que, a pesar de reconocer su valia, de aceptar que siempre tengo que escuchar su material nuevo al salir, termina por ofrecerme la misma sensación, la de monotonía al enfrentarme a una de sus obras completas. Desde luego para mí su mejor época está al comienzo, también quizá por lo novedoso de su sonido en las primeras obras o la no saturación de un sonido demasiado clonado disco tras disco, destacando su material debut "Heathenreel", de 2001, un discazo de comienzo a fin. Dicho esto es evidente que siempre encuentro momentos en sus obras para el disfrute, y claramente es para mí una de esas bandas más de canciones que de obras completas. Hoy quiero vovlver la vista atrás a su cuarto LP de estudio, "The Scythe", de 2007, un disco que cumple lo anteriormente dicho para mí, y que cuenta con uno de los temas que más puede considerarse un "single" casi de la carrera de la banda, en términos generales y para el gran público quiero decir, como fue "The divided heart", canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Otra banda más que da señales de vida compositiva en este 2021, los italianos "Elvenking" que muestran un single nuevo que imagino que formará parte de un próximo LP del que aún no tengo noticia a fecha de esta reseña. 2019 fue la fecha escogida por el grupo para editar su último LP, "Reader of the runes Divination". Por lo escuchado en este adelanto o single nuevo hay una reminiscencia hacia los momentos clásicos de la banda, un sonido muy "Elvenking" se desprende de este "The moon and magic", canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Elvenking - Silverseal

SILVERSEAL

El décimo disco de estudio de los italianos "Elvenking" puede rememorar un cierto retorno a las raíces que se nota más en unos temas que en otros, pero que en el fondo deja esa sensación tras su escucha completa. Estamos ante un grupo con una larga trayectoria que nunca ha desdeñado la idea de experimentar y buscar caminos nuevos con más o menos acierto, y siendo una banda que he seguido desde el inicio de su carrera si que sin embargo, ha atravesado algunas épocas que me han resultado menos gratas o más difíciles de digerir, como si pasasen rachas de falta de ideas. Como decía al inicio, no se si será que esta obra me ha pillado en mejor momento o que objetivamente hayan mirado más hacia el espíritu de los comienzos pero en general me ha gustado más el disco que las anteriores tres obras, y hoy quiero dejar en el blog otra de las canciones de este "reader of the runes divination" del presente 2019, concretamente el primero de los singles de la obra, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Primer adelanto del que será ya décimo disco de estudio de los italianos "Elvenking" y que llevará por título "Reader of the runes Divination", que saldrá a la venta el próximo mes de agosto de manera oficial. A juzgar por lo escuchado en este primer single "Under the sign of a black star" vemos como la banda se perpetúa una vez más en su concepto compositivo, con un buen regusto a,los mejores momentos del grupo, que a mi entender ha pasado por alguna época menos lustrosa que otras, y que parece poco a poco recuperar el pulso de su mejor versión. PATHFINDERS

Hoy de nuevo recurro al material inicial de la banda italiana "Elvenking", el que sin duda alguna me resulta más interesante. Tras el magnífico primer disco de la banda "Heathenreel" de 2001 en 2004 veía la luz el segundo esfuerzo titulado "Wyrd", digno sucesor del debut y que cuenta con la particularidad de no estar grabado con el mismo vocalista que tanto antes como posteriormente se encargaría de las voces en todo el material de la banda, que no es otro que "Damnagoras" Davide Moras. Para esta segunda obra fue sustituido por "Kleid" Massimo Bottiglieri, curiosamente poco después de grabar el disco, en el propio 2004 Damnagoras retornaría a la banda para encargarse, como decía más arriba, de prestar su voz tan personal a todo el resto del material de la banda. Obra pues recomendable este "Wyrd" de los italianos, de la que hoy quiero dejar en el blog un tema, en concreto "Pathfinders", canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Elvenking - The One We Shall Follow

THE  ONE  WE  SHALL  FOLLOW

La verdad es que ya he dicho en varias ocasiones como esta banda fue tornando ese interés que despertó en mí la parte inicial de su carrera, con su gran "Heathenreel", y lo más que interesantes "Wyrd" y "Winterwake", en una cierta desilusión en sus obras posteriores. Siempre he reconocido el mérito del grupo, y aunque al final siempre termino escuchando y disfrutando al menos alguna de sus canciones en todas sus obras, quedan sin embargo y desde luego lejos los tiempos iniciales en que sin demasiados problemas disfrutaba de toda una obra completa de ellos sin sentir esa sensación de repetitividad que me obliga, hoy en día, a cambiar de tercio en su nuevo material. Quiero sin embargo volver hoy a su noveno y hasta la fecha de esta reseña, último trabajo publicado, "Secrets of the magic grimoire", editado el pasado noviembre de 2017, un disco en el que quizá haya visto signos de una posible recuperación, aún demasiado leve para lanzarme a alabar la obra en su conjunto, pero si con buenos destellos y momentos que me dan una mayor esperanza para lo que pueda venir en el futuro por parte de estos italianos. En esta ocasión lo hago para dejar en el blog uno de los temas que más me han gustado de la obra coincidiendo con la edición (un tanto tardía, eso sí) de un clip de dicha canción, que no es otra que "The one we shall follow", y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube del citado clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Elvenking - Draugen's Maelstrom

DRAUGEN'S  MAELSTROM

Novena obra de estudio de los italianos con su particular y personal visión musical, y una demostración más de que, si bien el sonido de la banda siempre ha denotado calidad y creatividad, también es cierto que lejos están de su sonido primigenio de comienzos del presente siglo, época en que la banda comenzó a despuntar con su "Heathenreel" de 2001, año en que les descubrí y que captaron toda mi atención en lo que entonces era una incipiente carrera que prometía grandes cosas. Tras estos casi 20 años de periplo por la escena musical Elvenking ha ido mostrando, en mi humilde opinión, luces y sombras, con obras más o menos completas, que jamás lograron alcanzar el potencial que prometían en su primera obra, su techo compositivo para mí, a pesar de que en ocasiones como en "The winter wake" se acercaran bastante a su mejor nivel. Tras constatar que la mayoría de las "luces" se juntaron al inicio de su carrera, si que debo decir que siempre ofrecen, en cada una de sus obras, al menos un destello de la calidad que si poseen, el caso es que al final sus obras se me terminan por hacer un tanto aburridas en conjunto. Mirando pues esos destellos continuos de calidad afronto esta nueva obra, "secrets of the magick grimoire" cuya salida se espera para el 10 de noviembre, con la esperanza de que sea un trabajo completo y bueno en general. Canciones para una vida - Elvenking - Elvenlegions

ELVENLEGIONS

A pesar de que el material que prefiero de esta banda es con diferencia el inicial, hoy quiero dejar en el blog un tema de su último álbum hasta la fecha de esta reseña, "The pagan Manifesto", de 2014. Como ya he dicho en alguna de las anteriores entradas de esta banda en el blog, Elvenking es una banda italiana cuya base es una música de raíces folk con un fondo de Power metal, aunque su música es difícil de encasillar por el marcado estilo personal que tiene la banda, que bebe musicalmente de estilos tan dispares como el folk, el hard rock, el metal progresivo, el power metal, e incluso el pop y la música clásica, aunque su estilo ha ido evolucionando a medida que sacaban discos (a peor en mi humilde opinión). Han editado hasta la fecha de esta reseña un total de 8 discos de estudio entre los años 2001 y 2014, presentando los componentes del grupo pseudónimos en lugar de sus propios nombres. El grupo se forma en 1997, por dos guitarristas, Aydan y Jarpen. Pronto se les unirá Sargon como bajista y ya en 1998 Damnagoras como cantante y el batería Zender. Como antes he dicho, prefiero el material inicial, sobre todo su insuperado en mi humilde opinión debut "Heathenreel" y es una de esas bandas que compositivamente siempre han demostrado capacidad de sobra, pero han ido moviéndose por el filo entre la luz y la oscuridad, y en esta última obra veo más destellos que en las tres anteriores por ejemplo. Siempre encuentro algún tema destacable en esta banda, pero este disco me ha dado la sensación de ser el más completo desde hacía muchos, y eso es buena señal, (para mi). En definitiva, hoy quiero dejar una de las canciones de la obra, concretamente este "Elvenlegions", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Elvenking - Seasonspeech

SEASONSPEECH

Elvenking es una banda italiana cuya base es una música de raíces folk con un fondo de Power metal, aunque su música es difícil de encasillar por el marcado estilo personal que tiene la banda, que bebe musicalmente de estilos tan dispares como el folk, el hard rock, el metal progresivo, el power metal, e incluso el pop y la música clásica, aunque su estilo ha ido evolucionando a medida que sacaban discos (a peor en mi humilde opinión). Han editado hasta la fecha de esta reseña un total de 8 discos de estudio entre los años 2001 y 2014, presentando los componentes del grupo pseudónimos en lugar de sus propios nombres. El grupo se forma en 1997, por dos guitarristas, Aydan y Jarpen. Pronto se les unirá Sargon como bajista y ya en 1998 Damnagoras como cantante y el batería Zender. En 2000 graban su demo "To oak woods bestowed" que les abriría las puertas de "AFM Records" con quienes firman para editar su primer (y para mi gusto mejor) Larga Duración "Heathenreel" en 2001. Sargon había dejado la banda y para entonces Damnagoras se había hecho cargo del bajo además de la voz. Tras grabar el disco Gorlan, amigo de los dos guitarristas del grupo ingresa en la banda como bajista. La buena acogida del disco entre la crítica mundial desemboca en una gira con nada menos que con Blind Guardian, Gamma Ray, Edguy o Virgin Steele. Con tales comienzos se preveía un buen futuro al grupo, pero un primer bache llega a la banda cuando Damnagoras debe dejar el  grupo por motivos de salud en 2002, siendo sustituido brillantemente por Kleid, con un registro vocal similar a Damnagoras, y con quien el grupo graba su segundo LP "Wyrd" en una línea similar al "Heathenreel". En 2004 y ya recuperado de sus problemas Damnagoras vuelve al grupo grabando "The winter Wake" en 2006, pero habiendo en 2005 sufrido la perdida del unos de los guitarristas fundadores, Jarpen, quien decide dejar la banda viendo los derroteros musicales que comenzaba a tener Elvenking. Desde este disco, "The winter wake", (más que potable), en adelante, la banda fue tornandose en un grupo más anónimo aunque con un nombre bien hecho, pero la garra y el sello Elvenking se han ido diluyendo obra tras obra, y sin dejar de ser un buen grupo, no llegan en mi humilde opinión a los niveles de sus tres primeras obras y sobre todo de su debut "Heathenreel". Y es de este disco del que hoy quiero dejar otra canción en el blog, de las muchas que se pueden escoger de esa buena obra. Hoy quiero recomendar su "Seasonspeech", donde dejan bien claro el potencial que tenían en sus inicios y que seguramente en ellos sigue. Una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Desde este disco, "The winter wake", (de muy buen nivel), en adelante, la banda fue tornándose en un grupo más anónimo aunque con un nombre bien hecho, pero la garra y el sello Elvenking se han ido diluyendo obra tras obra, y sin dejar de ser un buen grupo, no llegan en mi humilde opinión a los niveles de sus tres primeras obras y sobre todo de su debut "Heathenreel". Hoy quiero dejar en el blog un tema de la tercera obra de grupo, "The winter wake", de 2006, como decía anteriormente con el retorno de Damnagoras a la voz del grupo, de la que podemos destacar buenos temas como el homónimo al título del disco "The winter wake", o la versión de Skyclad "Penny Dreadful" introducida como bonus track, y en general toda la obra tiene un nivel bueno no demasiado alejado de su debut y obra cumbre a mi humilde entender de la banda, "Heathenreel". Hoy quiero dejar el bonus track de la edición japonesa de "the winter wake", de título "Petalstorm", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.
