INFINITY

Un poco en la misma línea de lo dicho en la anterior entrada del blog referente a Hammerfall, lo de los alemanes Freedom Call es pura constancia, consistencia, perseverancia en su concepto compositivo y capacidad para generar sentimientos encontrados, aquí menos extremos por el cartel que siempre ha tenido esta banda de "chicos buenos" del power, esa positividad inherente a las obras del grupo. La verdad es que no por esperado su sonido es menos efectivo, agradecido, absolutamente enganchón y coreable en vivo, y el nuevo disco cumple perfectamente con todos estos estandares de la banda, por ejemplo de nuevo en su tema "Infinity" del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Si esta banda es de tu agrado entenderás mi sensación con ella, la aparente facilidad que demuestra obra tras obra para crear temas que se instalan en tu cabeza rondando sin descanso desde la primera escucha, y mira que llevan ya años y LP's a sus espaldas. He de confesar de nuevo que es uno de mis grupos desde sus inicios y quizá eso no me haga verlo con toda la objetividad que debería, sin embargo ese buen rollete que trasmiten en su estilo, el famoso Happy metal, es un plus en el grupo. De este nuevo disco del presente 2024, "Silver Romance" quiero dejar otro ejemplo, "Supernova", canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Es innegable que estos alemanes son una auténtica maquina de crear melodías, y a pesar de que muchas de sus canciones puedan parecerse no dejan de ser igualmente efectivas y eficaces. Hace menos de una semana, y sin noticias de lo que venía, pedía yo noticias de los germanos en el sentido de editar material nuevo, y lo que son las cosas, esta semana han anunciado que en mayo verá la luz su undécimo LP de estudio "Silver Romance" del que acaban de dejar su primer adelanto que da nombre a la obra, poco que añadir, solo que los amantes del sonido de la banda veremos una vez más con buenos ojos el material nuevo a juzgar por este adelanto del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube, Freedom Call, una garantía siempre.

THE   M.E.T.A.L.  FEST

Desde 2019 se antoja ya un tiempo largo para no tener un LP de estudio de la banda alemana Freedom Call, desde entonces nos hemos tenido que conformar con un single en 2023 de un tema nuevo grabado en estudio añadido a un disco en vivo, las bandas desde luego utilizan todos sus trucos para vender y es lógico por otra parte, pero siegue antojándose un tiempo demasiado largo entre discos para una banda como Freedom Call. FREEDOM  CALL  -  CRYSTAL  EMPIRE  -  (2001)

 

 Otra banda más que empezó solo siendo un proyecto paralelo de dos músicos y que con la capacidad compositiva que demostró, esa buena compenetración y el acierto de hacer ese tipo de sonido en la época perfecta para hecerlo, (Power metal a finales de los 90), solo podía desembocar en una dirección, la de perpetuarse como banda, la de crear un sello sonoro propio dentro del hecho de no haber inventado nada nuevo en realidad, pero habiendolo hecho suyo y, como digo, dandole ese toque tan personal, tan reconocible, ese "Happy metal" derrochante de positividad sonora y calidad impecable en lo que a producción de refiere. Desde luego el debut de la banda fue algo que a más de uno nos llegó para quedarse en nosotros, y la continuación a dicho debut dejo bien claro que la banda proyecto era una apuesta a largo plazo, a pesar de que muchos de los nombres que la formaron abandonaban progresivamente la formación a medida que la carrera de la banda avanzaba, pero ya estaba ahí Chris Bay para tirar del carro. 2001 fue el año elegido para este segundo discazo, "Crystal Empire", un clásico ya del power metal por meritos propios, uno de esos discos perfectos, en su conjunto, a los que no les sobra ni falta nada, uno de esos d¡que de ser compuestos de nuevo deberían ser milimétricamente iguales al original. Dejo hoy en el blog  el artwork de la obra a cargo de otro de los grandes artístas del metal, Paul Raymond Gregory, quien también ha hecho trabajos para grandes nombres como Saxon, Blind Guardian, Dio, por citar los más conocidos.

SPIRIT  OF  DAEDALUS

Otra banda de esas que tiene por costumbre una continuidad a la hora de editar material de estudio son los alemanes "Freedom Call" que como media suelen tardar poco más de dos años en editar material, lo que podría también hacerles candidatos a mostrar algo nuevo en el entrante 2021. De hacerlo, cosa que no he para nada contrastado, solo a modo de hipótesis, seguro que lo que sacasen sonaría como es costumbre en ellos, puesto que han logrado hacer de su sonido su sello personal, y, personalmente a mi me agrada mucho. A modo de repaso de su últimmo LP editado hasta la fecha, quiero hoy recuperar otro de los temas que lo componen, en concreto "Spirit of Daedalus" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

El primer capítulo de estos alemanes fue este "Stairway to fairyland" de 1999, una obra que nació casi casi como proyecto paralelo, con una vocación casi accidental, pero con tales argumentos que por su propio peso se consolidaría entre el power melódico para llegar a las alturas compositivas y de trayectoria que hoy merecidamente han alcanzado. Siempre me he declarado fan absoluto de estos tíos, desde el principio, y al escucharlo cada vez me reafirmo en ello, desde esta primera obra, absolutamente recomendable donde encontramos canciones tan buenas como este "We are one", con todas las características que se cronificarían en su estilo. KINGS  RISE  AND  FALL

Nuevo ejercicio, como en general cada canción de cada obra, de optimismo, enganche instantaneo, y power metal de manual, de ese que se hizo grande desde finales de los noventa a toda la década siguiente. Y es que los alemanes "Freedom Call" se valen y se sobran para hacer su sonido característico sin apenas esfuerzo aparente, y claro, la novena obra de la banda, y penúltima a fecha de esta reseña, "Master of light" de 2016, no es una excepción. La capacidad de parir melodías de este grupo parece casi infinita, y este "Kings rise and fall" del que hoy quiero dejar un enlace en el blog es solo un ejemplo más, tema directo al cerebro, que si se pusiese de moda masivamente sería silvado por propios y extraños por la facilidad que tienen estos tíos de crear canciones que entran a la primera. SAIL  AWAY

 Demostrando una vez más que esta banda alemana es un seguro de vida en lo suyo, nos dejan este "M.E.T.A.L." para dar continuidad a toda su carrera, un paso más en su ya reconocible sonido. Siempre termino por decir lo mismo de este grupo, obra tras obra, ya que apenas varían su concepto, algo que los amantes del grupo celebramos y que sus detractores utilizán para atacarles, pero este tipo de bandas no solo creo que no cambian sino que no deben cambiar y perder la esencia de lo que les hizo quienes son. Como digo con Freedom Call no parece haber riesgo de ello, son ya dos décadas haciendo este sonido, con momentos mejores y peores, pero siempre con un alto nivel en general.  Como ya es tradición dentro de la banda, Freedom Call sigue por esa senda del power metal editando una vez más una obra que en general sigue siendo buena en su conjunto. Desde luego a quien le agrade el sonido de la banda verá con buenos ojos este ya décimo trabajo de estudio que ha salido este 2019, "M.E.T.A.L.". Poco más que añadir aparte de mencionar la persistencia del grupo en la fórmula "Freedom Call" tan reconocible, y hoy quiero dejar otro de los temas de la misma en el blog, concretamente una de las canciones que más me ha gustado de todo el disco, "Sole Survivor", canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Una cucharadita más de esa constante que puede considerarse a esta banda alemana "Freedom Call", constante en lo referente a su sonido, por supuesto, con todo lo bueno (mucho) y lo malo que podamos sacar de ello. Es indudable que este disco no va a enganchar a la banda a nadie que ya no lo estuviese, porque la fómula se repite una vez más, algo que yo personalmente sigo celebrando. Uno de esos temas de este "M.E.T.A.L." 100% Freedom Call es este "Days Of Glory" que hoy dejo en el blog, absolutamente tópico en lo referente a la banda, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Freedom Call - 111 The Number Of The Angels

111 - THE  NUMBER  OF  THE  ANGELS

 Ya están de vuelta los alemanes "Freedom Call" con su décimo ya disco de estudio, "M.E.T.A.L.", cuya salida oficial se espera para este próximo 23 de agosto, y del cual ya podemos disfrutar el primero de sus singles de adelanto, "111 - the numbre of the angels". Tres años han pasado desde la salida de su anterior material de estudio, y entre medias Chris Bay, guitarrista, cantante y teclista, además de motor principal, compositor y único miembro presente en todas y cada una de las obras de la banda, sacó material propio, sobre el que tampoco quiero hacer demasiada sangre, simplemente diré que no ha resultado de mi agrado, y, afortunadamente, tras dar salida a esa necesidad compositiva con material que no cabría para la banda Freedom Call, (algo que por otra parte tampoco me parece mal), afortunadamente, como digo, ha vuelto a la senda de nivel para lo que debe ser un disco de esta banda que tan bien acostumbrados tiene a los amantes de power de corte europeo. ETERNITY

 Desde 2016 no tenemos noticias de material nuevo de los alemanes Freedom Call, y esperemos pronto tener noticias en esa linea por dos motivos, el primero el musical, se trata para mí de una de esas bandas en que me encanta el 90% o más de su material, encarnado en un power happy que ha sido desde el inicio marca de la casa. Siempre ha habido tras esta banda calidad, desde su creación como proyecto paralelo que ante el potencial de músicos y composición no pudo sino constituirse en una banda estable a tiempo completo. El otro motivo por el que espero escuchar pronto material nuevo de la banda es más preocupante, y no es otra cosa que el disco que Chris Bay, principal impulsor de la banda, ha sacado en solitario, un material en el que tampoco quiero extenderme demasiado, y como se suele decir, si no tienes nada bueno que decir es mejor no decir nada, y eso intento, pero vamos, mal. El caso es que tengo la esperanza que esa tendencia no se contagie a la banda principal y sea solo una manera de dar salida a otro estilo que no terminase de casar con el material de Freedom Call. Siempre es bueno repasar una ya extensa carrera musical como la de los alemanes para quitarse malas sensaciones, y hoy quiero repasar otro tema de sus obras pasadas para expulsar fantasmas mientras esperamos noticias futuras. En concreto quiero rescatar una canción de su séptimo LP, "Land of the crimson dawn" de 2012, concretamente "Eternity", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Freedom Call - The Quest

THE  QUEST

 Siempre es una buena idea repasar la discografía de una banda como Freedom Call, un grupo de esos que nos tienen acostumbrados a hacerlo prácticamente todo bien, dentro de un marco de pulcro power metal absolutamente europeo. Ya he dejado en muchas ocasiones mi debilidad por esta banda y hoy no voy a decir nada nuevo, tan solo repasar alguno más de sus temas icónicos que les han hecho grandes en una ya larga carrera de 20 años a sus espaldas a pesar de su nacimiento como proyecto paralelo, pero la calidad se impone y de esa manera inocente y natural es como muchas veces nacen las mejores bandas. Hoy es el turno de "The Quest" una canción de su segundo album de estudio "Crystal Empire", de 2001 donde demostraban que no solo seguían vivos tras su gran debut, como digo como proyecto paralelo de mushos de sus integrantes, sino que además apostaban por consolidarse y por la calidad, un tema este "The Quest" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Freedom Call - Land Of Light

LAND  OF  LIGHT

 Ya he dicho en más de una ocasión en el blog lo que significa esta banda alemana "Freedom Call" musicalmente para mí, uno de esos raros ejemplos en que me resulta casi imposible decir una palabra negativa de lo que hacen estos tíos a lo largo y ancho de su ya dilatada carrera que comenzara allá por finales del siglo pasado más como un proyecto paralelo que como una banda en sí. Evidentemente poniendo pasión, ilusión y calidad por supuesto, se puede llegar bien lejos, más incluso de lo que uno mismo hubiera creído, algo que imagino que ha podido sucederle a esta bandaza que va ya por su noveno LP y promete alargar su existencia por lo en forma musicalmente que se encuentran. Hoy quiero volver de nuevo la mirada a una de sus primeras obras, concretamente a su tercer trabajo del que ya he hablado en el blog, "Eternity" recientemente reeditado y complementado, y del que se puede casi escoger cualquier tema sin miedo a equivocarse, destacando hoy este "Land of light" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

MASTERS  OF  LIGHT

Como ya he dicho anteriormente de estos alemanes Freedom Call se forma en 1998 por el batería Dan Zimmermann (Gamma Ray) y el compositor, teclista, vocalista y técnico de sonido Chris Bay. Ambos llevaban ya una larga relación musical desde 1988 en que habían coincidido en grupos de versiones como "China white" o "Lanzer" a lo largo de la década anterior a la formación de Freedom Call. Deciden darse la oportunidad de crear algo propio justo cuando le batería Dan entra en Gamma Ray. Freedom Call comienza de esta manera y siempre ha sabido rodearse por grandes músicos, aparte de los mencionados Chris y Dan, por ejemplo Sascha Gerstner en las guitarras hasta su entrada en Helloween, o Ilker Ersin al bajo. Freedom Call comienza a grabar discos de estudio en 1999 sacando hasta la fecha de esta reseña 8 discos en total, a cual mejor. Siempre que hablo de Freedom Call digo lo mismo, es una de esas raras bandas de las que puedo decir que me gusta todo su material, creo que no hay ninguna canción que me desagrade. Su Power metal, muy "happy" en muchas ocasiones te pone las pilas pues su composición es muy cuidada y su producción es simplemente perfecta. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog otro tema de su noveno y último disco de estudio, "Master of light", una obra que es la indudable demostración de que la banda sigue en plena forma tras ya 18 años de carrera, y este tema, "Masters of light" auna muchos de los clichés que les han hecho llegar poco a poco y obra tras obra a un merecido alto puesto entre las bandas internacionales, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Freedom Call - Metal Is For Everyone

METAL  IS  FOR  EVERYONE

A punto ya de salir la novena obra de estudio de los alemanes Freedom Call, nos llega su segundo adelanto del nuevo álbum. Este "Metal is for everyone" es sin duda un ejemplo más de todo lo que ya en múltiples ocasiones he dicho por ejemplo en el blog de esta banda, y es que estos Happy Metaleros tienen esa rara capacidad de hacer que sus temas entren directamente a tu cabeza a la primera escucha, con ese aire "Happy", esa positividad que también se ha traducido en esta ocasión en el diseño del clip de este tema. Es indudable que la banda sigue en plena forma tras ya 18 años de carrera, y este noveno álbum promete ser un paso firme más en este concepto metálico que están desarrollando. Siempre me he declarado gran fan de estos tíos, y a juzgar por el sonido de este par de adelantos que nos han dejado creo firmemente que me quedaré por siempre al lado musical de Freedom Call, al final también es un consuelo que las bandas mantengan su identidad y no se pierdan demasiado en caminos que a veces hacen que uno no les reconozca tras tres o cuatro discos. En fin, afortunadamente no es el caso, como muestra este "Metal is for everyone" del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Estamos en plena época de producción de bandas de renombre, y uno más de estos grupos que están enseñando su nuevo material es Freedom Call, una de mis debilidades, que se espera que pronto saque su nuevo disco "Master of light" a la venta en breve, aunque aún no han desvelado la fecha exacta, pero imagino que para agosto o septiembre a más tardar. Una vez más el grupo alemán hace gala de su power enganchón, happy, con el sello inconfundible de Freedom Call.
