Alestorm - The Storm

THE  STORM 

Si hablabamos ayer de una banda cuyo inicio no presagiaba una carrera excepcional, hoy podemos decir lo mismo de la banda que nos ocupa, los escoceses Alestorm. Si que es cierto que su sonido resultaba ser quizá más acorde al actual desde el comienzo respecto a lo dicho referente a los italianos Wind Rose con su propio inicio, sin embargo, los mimbres de la banda (Alestorm), así a priori nunca me hubiesen hecho jurar que resultarían tan exitosos e imitables, abriendo escuela. En este 2025 el grupo ha publicado ya el octavo LP de estudio desde su formación en 2007, y sabiendo lo que el publico les demanda ellos simplemente se lo dan. Hoy dejo otra de las canciones de esta su última obra, en concreto el tema "The Storm" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Octavo ya album de estudio para los escoceses Alestorm este "The Thunderfist chronicles" cuya salida oficial se espera para este 20 de junio, lejos va quedando ya sus inicios en 2007 y su crecimiento como referente internacional ha sido tremendo. El sonido de sus obras ha sido desde el inicio de su carrera muy reconocible, siempre con ese componente irreverente y un tanto guarrete que se ha convertido en su seña de identidad. Los escoceses Alestorm han regresado en este 2024 con una pequeña colección de temas en formato EP para mantener la atención del gran público, algo muy común en nuestros días. poco que añadír, temas muy Alestorm, su sonido es ya franquicia, imitado, directo y siempre gamberro sin dejar de lado la calidad. Canciones para una vida - Alestorm - Voyage Of The Dead Marauder

VOYAGE  OF  THE  DEAD  MARAUDER

Siguiendo con la tradición actual de las bandas punteras, los escoceses Alestorm tratan de mantenerse visibles entre obra y obra a través de un EP, que actualmente suele ser un recurso de un par de temas nuevos a los que sumar alguna versión propia o ajena con la intención de que su nombre no se diluya en el océano de grupos que asolan la escena internacional intentándose hacer un hueco en su saturado firmamento. Este es el caso de "Voyage of the dead marauder", tres temas nuevos y dos versiones ajenas para dar forma a un EP de cinco temas que verá la luz de forma oficial el 22 de marzo. Dejo hoy la canción que da nombre a la obra en la que participa la recurrente Patty Gurdy que va haciendose un nombre en la escena a través de sus colaboraciones con bandas de primer nivel, en esta ocasión Alestorm, después de comenzar haciendo versiones con su Hurdy Gurdy en youtube de bandas metálicas y de rock, una demostración más de que quien la sigue la consigue y de que las herramientas a disposición de las bandas y músicos abren caminos impensables hace unas décadas, lo cual es genial para todo amante de la música. Si echamos la vista atrás, a los comienzos de la carrera de estos escoceses nos damos cuenta de que este es tan "solo" su séptimo LP de estudio, y lo hago notar tan solo por el hecho del gran crecimiento que ha tenido el grupo desde sus comienzos, en un inicio que poco podía hacer presagiar que se iban a transformar en una banda de las de primera línea, influyentes, con proyectos paralelos que han dado recientemente incluso para crear otra banda de la escisión de dicho proyecto paralelo, está calro que el universo "Alestorm" se expande y parece de momento no tener techo. Canciones para una vida - Alestorm - Seventh Rum Of A Seventh Rum

 

SEVENTH  RUM  OF  A  SEVENTH  RUM

Parece evidente que el nivel de crecimiento de esta banda les ha colocado, (y ya desde hace mucho tiempo) al frente de esa corriente bucanera que ha llegado ya a influir a otras muchas bandas con esa mezcla de muchas cosas, que bebe de fuentes clasicas y al mismo tiempo muestra esa personalidad tan propia tratando de quitarle "hierro" al serio mundo del heavy metal a través de ese jocoso planteamiento en el que todo gira alrededor de una fiesta eterna y alcohol a raudales, nada nuevo en si mismo, pero muy bien explotado por los escoceses, que en este séptimo LP de estudio dan un paso más en lo expuesto anteriormente. El caso es que esta obra desde su título hasta su ejecución conjunta muestra esa irreverente propuesta que deja siempre un poso en el oyente, y hoy dejo otro de los temas que lo componen para ilustrar mis palabras, en concreto hoy el tema que da nombre a la obra, "Seventh rum of a seventh rum" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Segundo adelanto de los escoceses Alestorm de la nueva obra, séptimo LP de su discografía "Seventh rum of a seventh rum", que será por completo desvelado el próximo mes de junio. El segundo de los singles no podría ser má eso, Single, cuenta con todos y cada uno de los atributos propios de la banda, todos y cada uno de sus clichés con un acierto enorme en lo que a enganchar al oido se refiere, su título "P.A.R.T.Y." y que va acompañado por un simpático clip oficial de animación del que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube. Metal Wallpaper BBM - Alestorm - Curse Of The Crystal Coconut

ALESTORM  -  CURSE  OF  THE  CRYSTAL  COCONUT  -  2020

2020 fue el año en el que la banda escocesa editó su sexto LP de estudio, "Curse of the crystal coconut", una banda que ha sabido encontrar ese hueco en la escena internacional, ocupando ese, en cierto sentido, cómodo nicho que explota de una manera teóricamente desenfadada el sonido metálico, en un enfoque humorísitico en el que no faltán los clichés alcoholicos, criticos al tiempo que se aprovecha una temática perpetua de fondo que en esta banda versa sobre cuestiones históricas y corsarias. La verdad es que siempre han ofrecido mucho al metalhead con un sonido que incluso ha ido creando escuela. La figura siempre destacada en el grupo, Christopher Bowes, voz y teclados, siempre ha encontrado un punto de escape al planteamiento de Alestorm en Gloryhammer, con un enfoque más común en lo referente al power metal como tal, y por ejemplo con Wizardthrone su vertiente más death melódica, aunque siempre sobrevuele esa tendencia jocosa aunque sea solo en los títulos o las letras. Volviendo a este "curse of the crystal coconut" de 2020, Dan Goldsworthy se hizo cargo de nuevo del fantástico artwork que hoy dejo en el blog.

Es evidente el nivel alcanzado por estos escoceses a lo largo de los años, el estatus al que han accedido que les ha llevado a ser cabeza absoluta del concepto que les ha hecho ser imitados por ya muchas otras bandas, explotando a la perfección la temática corsaria pero desde una perspectiva mucho más jocosa que la propuesta por Running Wild, esto siempre ha sido otra historia. En este 2022 la banda presenta su disco "Seventh Rum Of A seventh Rum", siempre con esos guiños al mundo metálico al que representan tan bien, el séptimo disco ya de su discografía que promete seguir la línea de lo anteriormente propuesto a juzgar por el primero de sus adelantos, "Magellan's Expedition", del que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

SUNSET  ON  THE  GOLDEN AGE

La carrera de los escoceses Alestorm es hoy en día una referencia para muchas otras bandas, y concretamente con la madurez que ya presentan en su década y media de historia personal van, nunca mejor dicho, viento en popa, incluyendo los proyectos paralelos de Bowes. 6 LP's de estudio son ya un buen legado que esperemos que siga creciendo pero entre obra y obra el ejercicio de echar un vistazo attrás a la discografía del grupo es muy recomandable. Hoy quiero hacerlo de nuevo con su cuarta obra de estudio, "Sunset on the golden age" de 2014, de la que ya he hablado en el blog y de la que hoy dejo en el blog la canción que da nombre a la obra, un épico tema largo, (que no es lo más habitual de la banda que suele acostumbrarnos mucho a temas de apenas tres minutos), que muestra ese lado compositivo del grupo, con todos los ingredientes que han hecho de esta banda ese referente mencionado más arriba para otras bandas, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

FANNYBAWS

Otra de las canciones fiesteras pero manteniendo esa linea menos experimental, (tan del gusto de los escoceses muchas veces), es este "Fannybaws". La verdad que es una de esas canciones que mantiene muy bien el equilibrio de lo que más me gusta de esta banda, sin excederse en nada, y uno de esos temas que te ponen las pilas, algo a lo que "Alestorm" esta bien acostumbrado. Poco más que añadir, otra de las canciones que podrías facilmente recopilar como destacada de lo que llevamos de 2020, y de la que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Otro de los temas de este sexto disco, recien salido a la venta, de los escoceses "Alestorm" dueños de un estilo un tanto inclasificable, o, desde otra perspectiva, clasificable en varios subgéneros diferentes posibles, ellos se autodenominan como "True Scottish Pirate Metal", ahí es nada, con elementos power, folk, e incluso algunos guiñoa vocales death, estamos ante un grupo sobre todo versátil, como he dicho ya con anterioridad sobre ellos, sin miedo a la experimentación, que en esta ocasión nos dejan un tema más, clásico en su estilo, "Chomp Chomp", canción de la que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube. De lo que no hay ninguna duda es de que por lo general una obra de estos chicos no suele dejar indiferente a nadie.

TORTUGA

Dificil ya catalogar a una banda como "Alestorm", sobre todo teniendo en cuenta la progresiva dirección que va tomando la banda. Quiza sea motivo de la creación de la banda "Gloryhammer" por parte de Christopher Bowes (alma mater de Alestorm además de teclista y cantante) el hecho de dar salida a toda la vertiente más puramente Power, dejanto abierta de para en par la puerta a sonidos y estructuras más heterodoxas y gamberras, de fusiones casi imposibles que se dan hoy en día en Alestorm. Sea como sea ya está de nuevo aquí la banda escocesa corsaria con su ovtavo album de estudio "Curse of the crystal coconut" cuya salida oficial se espera para este 29 de mayo. Y de ella hoy dejo en el blog su segundo adelanto "Tortuga", buen ejemplo de lo anteriormente expuesto, un tema que he tenido que escuchar varias veces para decidir realmente en que lado de la balanza ponerlo, pero que finalmente, con su extraña capacidad de enganche he decidido traer al blog, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Poco más que añadir a lo citado anteriormente en lo que a la banda se refiere tanto como en lo que al álbum, "No grave but the sea", quinto de la banda, de 2017, se refiere, buen power, enganchón, fácil de digerir desde la primera escucha, y líricamente loo y gamberro, marca ya de la casa. Este disco cumple perfectamente lo esperado de una obra de la banda, repleto de temas cortos y directos, que se meten rápido en la cabeza, y del que hoy traigo al blog otra de las canciones, "Man the pumps", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube. "Alestorm" toda una marca ya en si misma que además va creando escuela.

TREASURE  ISLAND

Que sería de un pirata sin hablar de su isla del tesoro. De nuevo traigo al blog la última obra de Alestorm, "No grave but the sea", de 2017 para destacar otro de sus temas, y es que la maquinaria musical de estos escoceses liderados por Chistopher Bowes funciona a las mil maravillas, y esta quinta obra de la banda destila buen hacer, experiencia y pasión por lo que se hace, una serie de criterios que, unidos, como es el caso, denerian ser siempre sinónimo de acierto. Hoy quiero referirme a su tema final de la obra, "Treasure Island", el broche perfecto a una de las obras más consistentes de cuanto nos ofreció el pasado 2017, y que muestra a unos Alestorm en plena forma y con cuerda para rato, (esperemos). Con casi 8 minutos, este "Treasure Island" no se hace largo en absoluto, conquistandote desde el principio, melodía, fuerza, un tema 100% Alestorm del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Alestorm - No Grave But The Sea

NO  GRAVE  BUT  THE  SEA

 No hay duda alguna del nivel de esta banda a estas alturas de su carrera musical, y es que Alestorm ha sabido a base de calidad y consistencia hacerse su propio hueco teniendo un reconocido y reconocible estilo que ya empieza a crear escuela y a cosechar colaboraciones para otras bandas incluso. Sea como sea nos encontramos ante la quinta obra de estudio de la banda donde como digo demuestran saberse de memoria lo que tienen que hacer para mantener su personalidad y dar así un paso más en la dirección adecuada. Los seguidores, que ya empiezan a ser legión, encontrarán pues en esta nueva obra todo lo que cabría esperar y además de una forma muy directa, con temas de fácil digestión y que suben deprisa a la cabeza en una analogía facilona a su recurrente temática pro alcohólica. Ya me referí hace unos meses a su primer adelanto de este "No grave but the sea" y ahora, con la obra bien reposada quiero traerla de nuevo para recomendarla en conjunto, para seguidores convencidos o para otros que aún no lo hayan hecho y quieran encontrarse con una banda que mezcla a partes iguales contundencia, alegría y calidad empaquetada bajo el nombre de Alestorm, un disco del que hoy quiero dejar un enlace al tema que da nombre al álbum, "No grave but the sea", paradigma de lo que debe ser un "Single", enganchón directo y breve, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

ALESTORM

Primer adelanto del que será el quinto disco de estudio de los escoceses Alestorm, una obra que saldrá a la venta de forma oficial este próximo 26 de mayo. De nuevo nos encontramos ante el sonido típico de la banda que promete pues ser fiel a sus convicciones no solo en lo musical, algo que es evidente al escuchar este "Alestorm", sino también a su gusto por el "cachondeo" que plasman en sus shows en vivo y particularmente en sus videoclips. En lo musical, como digo, nos encontramos ante un tema muy en su onda, absolutamente enganchón desde la primera escucha y que no hace sino ponernos los dientes largos a todos los que nos gusta el sonido de estos tíos. Canciones para una vida - Alestorm - Magnetic North

MAGNETIC  NORTH

Desde el Reino Unido, desde Escocia llegan estos chicos con su power metal pitata, de corte folk, que tanto y tan merecido exito estan cosechando disco tras disco. Formados en 2004 bajo el nombre de Battleheart, tras sacar dos EP's con dicha denominación despertando grandes expectativas, consiguen firmar con la discográfica Napalm Records, con la "condición" de cambiar de nombre a la banda ya que a juicio de la discográfica se parecía demasiado al nombre de la banda Battlelore, tambien en ese mismo sello. Deciden así cambiar su nombre por Alestorm en 2007, comenzando a editar material de estudio bajo dicho nombre en 2008. Desde entonces, y hasta la fecha de esta reseña, 4 discos de estudio y un EP dan forma a la historia de este buen grupo caracterizado por su temática pirata. Quiero dejar en el blog otro tema de su última obra de estudio "Sunset on the golden age", concretamente su "magnetic north", del que han editado en 2015 un videoclip de los más curioso, si no lo habeís visto, muy "chorra", en la onda cachonda de la banda de un temazo, que lo és, y del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube, siempre es un buen momento para esta banda folky-pirata.
