Clasicón  para hoy, una canción de esas que trascienden a las fronteras y etiquetas, uno de los temas clásicos de una de las bandas por excelencia, "Highway to hell" de los australianos AC/DC, de un disco (homónimo), de 1979 y que sería el último del cantante Bon Scott antes de su muerte. estamos ante el sexto LP de la banda, con un nombre hecho, con fama y éxito, pero aún creciendo compositivamente, alcanzando ese punto de componer temas como el que hoy nos ocupa, en un disco que es mucho más que el título, pero del que dejo hoy en el blog este himno del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

SIN  CITY

Para el año 1978, los australianos editaban ya su quinto LP de estudio, "Powerage", para el que estrenaban bajista, (Cliff Williams tras la salida de Mark Evans), y a estas alturas la banda era ya conocida, respetada y seguida a un nivel bastante internacional. Una vez más hablamos de ventas millonarias, pero es que estamos ante una de las bandas que más han vendido, solo en Estados Unidos alcanzaron también con esta obra la certificación de disco de platino por vender más de un millón de copias de este "Powerage", que cuenta con grandes canciones como "Sin City" de la que dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube.

LET  THERE  BE  ROCK

Volviendo hoy de nuevo a la época previa a lo que se puede considerar como Heavy metal como tal, es decir, fijandonos de nuevo en las raices de nuestro sonido, el electrizante e hiper rítmico concepto de los australianos AC/DC no deben faltar, y hoy en concreto quiero fijarme en su cuarto disco de estudio "Let there be rock", grabado en 1977, y que solo en Estados Unidos vendió más de dos millones de copias. Hablar de esta banda es hacerlo de una de las grandes bandas e influencia, grupo al que tantos músicos escucharon y después incluso imitaron, un concepto propio tan reconocible con especial. Como digo un valor seguro sobre todo en la década de los setenta desde la perspectiva de la contribución desde su visión al heavy metal como sonido amplio y global. IT'S A LONG WAY TO THE TOP (IF YOU WANNA ROCK 'N ROLL)

Vuelta a los origenes, del sonido y de esta banda internacional, global y eterna llamada AC/DC. Su larga historia está marcada, como en todas las bandas, por momentos, épocas, muchas veces ligadas a músicos concretos, y este es también el caso de los australianos AC/DC. La dupla de hermanos Young siempre lideraron la banda pero en el apartado vocal son sobre todo dos los nombres que marcan dos épocas del grupo. En 1976, la banda editaba el segundo album digamos internacional del grupo tras su firma por Atlantic, y ese album llamado "High Voltage" se nutria de dos albumes editados para Australia con anterioridad, "High Voltage" vers Australiana, y "TNT", el resultado de esos dos albumes fue la versión estadounidense de High Voltage de la que hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus temas. Como decía más arriba, estamos en la primera parte de la historia de la banda, marcada vocalmente por Bon Scott, quien llega al grupo tras la salida del vocalista inicial Dave Evans que apenas grabó material con ellos. Bon, que por aquel entonces les hacía de chofer, entro en la banda en 1974, al poco de formarse el grupo en 1973, y seguiría en AC/DC hasta su muerte con el cambio de década. Para mi gusto este cantante les daba ese punto gamberro que tan bien pega con el grupo, buen ejemplo el temazo "It's a long way to the top (If you wanna rock 'n roll)" del que dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube.

SHAKE  YOUR  FOUNDATIONS

Hablar de AC/DC en muchas ocasiones y para muchos metalheads, como ocurre con otras bandas de ese nivel de popularidad, es hacerlo de su historia pasada y presente, es hacerlo de las diferentes épocas, de los dos frontman diferentes que han guiado su camino vocal, es siempre, y como siempre en estos casos, injusto, pues, sobre todo en este caso concreto, cada obra de los australianos tiene algo que ofrecer, y defender lo que muchos defienden de que solo la época Scott o que desde inicios de los 80, que viene a ser lo mismo, la banda solo se ha repetido cada vez con menos acierto, es como mínimo injusto. Más allá de lo personal en lo que a gustos se refiere, las obras de la banda siempre dejan algo que destacar. En 1985 editaban su décimo LP de estudio, "Fly on the wall", y de él quiero hoy dejar en el blog una de sus canciones como prueba argumental de lo anteriormente esgrimido, concretamente "Shake your foundations" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

HEATSEEKER

Que gran ejercicio es siempre recorrerse los ochenta de arriba a abajo, de delante hacia atrás, de los más hard a lo más heavy, de lo más black a lo más Trash, es siempre un ejercicio de descubrimiento y enriquecimiento que hace ver la magnitud de esa irrepetible década, y hablar de ese momento musical es hacerlo de bandas como AC/DC y su inquebrantable propuesta. Hoy, quiero hacerlo de uno de sus discos quizá más criticados, "Blow Up your video" de 1988, una obra en la que se critica que la banda pudiese haber compuesto "en automático", como con carencia de la garra típica de su carrera, pero es solo una opinión de las que se pueden escuchar, al final esto va de sensaciones y la música de estos australianos siempre ha estado sobrada de trnasmitir emociones. Es posible que la fórmula para estos días de la banda fuese algo diferente, también estabamos en 1988, y muchos grupos experimentaban en esos días, buscando sendas nuevas en una escena internacional que cambiaba sobre todo tirada por el hard americano que parecía ser la gallina de los huevos de oror del momento. Quizá hasta AC/DC se dejase tentar en ese sentido, pero siguen sonando a ellos mismos en este "Blow up your video", sin duda. Canciones para una vida - AC/DC - Who Made Who

 

WHO  MADE  WHO

AC/DC es uno de los iconos musicales en general y del sonido hard rockero y metálico en particular, con ese sonido tan reconocido y reconocible que va de la mano de una enorme personalidad artística que responde a la de unos músico excepcionales en muchos sentidos. Entre lo que demuestra lo que acabo de afirmar está el poco gusto que la banda siempre ha mostrado por hacer recopilatorios al uso, en plan "greatest hits"  siendo el argumento esgrimido por la misma el de que ellos son un grupo de LP's y no de canciones. El caso es que su manera de mostrar el concepto recopilatorio de puede resumir en el album "Who made who", de 1986, el decimo tercero de su discografía, y en el que incluían tres temas nuevos acompañados por otros más o menos reconocidos de su historia personal hasta ese momento. Se ha llegado al consenso de que alguno de los temas incluidos se incluyeron para darles alguna segunda oportunidad de destacar rodeados por otros más "cuajados" y por los compuestos para la ocasión como "Who made who" que aparece en la banda sonora original de la película "La rebelión de las máquinas", excusa de la edición de este LP. Sin duda de las novedades incluidas en la obra "Who made who" fue la que más cuajó, ya que además "D.T." y "Chase the ace"´las otras dos, eran instrumentales, y eso suele costarle más al gran público, incluso aunque la banda se llame AC/DC. En fín, sea como fuere nos dejaron destellos nuevos entre los que destacaron este "Who made who" del que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - AC/DC - Breaking The Rules

BREAKING  THE  RULES

Siempre ha habido, hay y habrá sitio, por merecimiento propio, para un clásico, y ese estatus de clásico se alcanza por diversos motivos, pero la calidad suele ir de la mano de ese tipo de composiciones que luego la historia se encarga de perpetuar en la memoria colectiva, en este caso de nuestra tribu metálica. En realidad nunca me he considerado un seguidor a ultranza de los australianos por excelencia dentro de nuestro sonido, pero jamás negaré que cuando llega un tema de estos tíos en el momento preciso me llena completamente. Hoy quiero rescatar una de sus obras, de las muchas que han parido en una larga carrera llena de éxitos, en concreto su noveno larga duración, "For those about to rock", de 1981, un disco con la difícil misión de dar continuidad a su carrera tras la salida del "Back in black" de 1980 y su "Highway to hell" de 1979" que llegaron a cada rincón del planeta. En este "For those about to rock" nos encontramos una colección de canciones una vez más de excelente confección, la segunda obra con Brian Johnson a la voz tras la desaparición de Bon Scott a finales de los 70, demostrando que estábamos posiblemente ante uno de los mejores momentos de la banda, (aparte de la tragica pérdida recién citada) a lo largo de toda su historia, si bien aquel purista seguidor de la banda verá un bajón en cuanto a nivel general, del que para muchos ya nunca se recuperarían, lo cual no quiere decir que no pariesen para la ocasión temas que se han hecho, por méritos propios, un hueco ya para siempre entre los temas clásicos de nuestro sonido. THUNDERSTRUCK

En 1973, Malmcom Young y Angus Young formaron AC/DC, reclutando al bajista Larry Van Kriedt, al cantante Dave Evans y al batería Colin Burgess. En 1974, Angus y Malcolm se deshicieron del resto del grupo e iniciaron la búsqueda de miembros para una nueva formación. Bon Scott se hará cargo de las voces hasta su trágica muerte en 1980 por una intoxicación etílica. Desde sus comienzos más de 20 obras de estudio nos hablan de un mito más que de una banda, en la que ambos vocalistas marcarán la historia del grupo. Singles hay infinidad, y si tuviese que escoger un disco de esta banda me quedaría con su "The Razords edge", de 1990, aunque sea solo por las implicaciones personales que para mi tiene y por tantos temas clásicos de la banda que hay en el disco, evidentemente el defensor a ultranza de esta banda es más que posible que no esté de acuerdo conmigo pero lo que es indudable es la cantidad de temas de gran calidad que tiene el disco. Esta obra de los australianos es la undécima en su carrera musical y uno de sus mayores éxitos de ventas, con más de 12 millones de discos vendidos de esta obra a nivel mundial, y es que, tan solo en Estados Unidos han vendido más de 5 millones, en Canadá más de medio millón, o más de 100 000 en Inglaterra o Francia. Se trata pues de una obra fundamental en nuestra historia, al igual que la banda. Quiero dejar hoy en el blog uno de esos temas archiconocidos y no por ello menos necesarios a pesar de lo "machacado" que podamos tenerlo, me refiero a su "Thunderstruck", el single por excelencia de esta obra y en parte gran culpable de las masivas ventas de este disco. Otra de las obras de los australianos AC/DC, en esta ocasión "For those about to rock", de 1981, su ya octava obra de estudio, y la segunda tras la muerte de Bon Scott a las voces hasta 1980. Como ya hemos dicho en nuestro blog, se calcula que AC/DC han vendido más de 50 millones de copias en todo el mundo. En esta época en concreto nos encontramos a una banda que ha superado ya esa incertidumbre que la desaparición de Bon Scott había dejado tanto al grupo como a sus seguidores, y de hecho su anterior obra de 1980, "Back in Black" la primera sin Bon y con Brian, se encargó de hacerles saber que lo mejor estaba casi por llegar. Del disco que hoy nos ocupa quiero destacar la canción homónima al disco "For those about to rock (we salute you)", un temazo imprescindible para la historia de nuestra música. Según cuenta la propia banda, cuando estaban escribiendo la canción y ensayando, coincidió con la boda de los príncipes de Inglaterra. En la habitación próxima al local de ensayo había alguien con la televisión puesta y cuando tocaban, las salvas de cañonazos de la televisión se intercalaban con las notas de la canción en el ensayo, y al ver lo bien que les sonaba dicha mezcla decidieron incluir tal sonido en la grabación original. Es además una canción que la banda suele utilizar para cerrar sus conciertos, además de un tema de esos imprescindibles, del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Tan solo del disco que hoy quiero dejar en el blog, este "Back In Black" se calcula que han vendido más de 50 millones de copias. Desde sus comienzos más de 20 obras de estudio nos hablan de un mito más que de una banda, en la que ambos vocalistas marcarán la historia del grupo. Singles hay infinidad, y si tuviese que escoger un disco de esta banda me quedaría sin duda con su The Razords edge, de 1990, al que inevitablemente haremos referencia en este blog, pero hoy quiero referirme a su archiconocido himno "Hells Bells", como digo de su disco Back In Black, de 1980, su novena obra de estudio, y la que marca el cambio de vocalista. Hells Bells resulta una canción de esas necesarias para cualquier amante de nuestro género que no podia pasar desapercibida sin que la mencionasemos en este blog, al igual que la banda AC DC.
