ROCK  'N  ROLL  MACHINE

Los canadienses Triumph son un ejemplo más de lo delgada que puede ser la línea entre el hard rock y el heavy, y son una de esas bandas que flirtearon con ese sonido, sobre todo en la parte inicial de su carrera cuando incluso el sonido heavy estaba aún por definirse y explotar, y es que los canadienses comenzaron como banda en 1975, y con un periodo de actividad hasta el presente realmente a nivel compositivo se les puede seguir la pista hasta mitad de los 90. Cosschan un notable éxito de ventas muy desde el inicio, y hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de las canciones de su segundo album de estudio, "Rock 'n roll machine" de 1977, como decía más arriba en sus momentos más hard 'n heavy como en el tema que da nombre a la obra y del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Silence - Devil Woman - Canciones Para Una Vida

DEVIL  WOMAN 

De nuevo otro ejemplo de los inicios de nuestro amado sonido, una vez más inicios de los 70 (1971) para comprobar que ceñirnos a los tópicos de los nombres más conocidos y reconocidos no resulta del todo justo, al final siempre defenderé que el heavy metal nace de muchas cosas diferentes, en muchos puntos diferentes para dar lugar a toda una corriente evolutiva que explotaría definitivamente con la llegada de la década de los ochenta. En esta ocasión un single suelto, de una banda a la que no conozco nada más editado, los holandeses Silence, su single "Mother's game Devil Woman" de 1971, con ese innegable origen sonoro hard rockero evolucionando a algo más contundente, proto heavy, germen global en los setenta, del que dejo la canción "Devil Woman", más historia hoy en el blog.

Iron Maiden - Prowler - Canciones Para Una Vida

PROWLER  (DEMO  VERSION) 

Vamos de nuevo con uno de los grupos míticos entre los míticos, los eternos Iron Maiden, y vamos hoy a repasar sus mismos comienzos, a finales muy finales de los setenta cuando en noviembre de 1979 publican su primer material en forma de demo, y ya desde ese mismo momento dejaron bien claro que no iban a ser una banda más, en absoluto, llegaban para hacerse los dueños de todo, y así lo hicieron. La citada demo "The soundhouse tapes" contenía tres canciones, dos de las cuales se incluirían al año siguiente en su primer LP, una de ellas, "prowler" es la que dejo hoy en el blog como testigo y contribución al heavy setentero que desembocaría sobre todo en la NWOBHM y a nivel global en el heavy metal de los ochenta.

Scorpions - Lovedrive - Canciones Para Una Vida

 

LOVEDRIVE 

La grandeza de los alemanes Scorpions es algo que debería estar fuera de toda duda, a pesar de los pesares, por mucho que a muchos les pueda joder y además lo son y serán por muchos motivos, la parte histórica, la comercial y de ventas y la estrictamente compositiva, no solo las cifras lo confirman, (que son un fantástico barómetro), también la cantidad de músicos de primera línea que defienden su trabajo como una influencia para ellos fundamental. En 1979, la banda editaba su sexta obra de estudio, y parecía lanzarse a por el cetro mundial del sonido encontrándose ya muchos nexos sonoros con el sonido que les elevaría al siguiente nivel de reconocimiento en masa, un disco este "Lovedrive" del que quiero dejar en el blog hoy la canción que le da nombre y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

HAIR  OF  THE  DOG 

Repasando una vez más los comienzos de nuestro sonido quiero volver de nuevo a los escoceses Nazareth, innegable influencia y contribuyentes a que el heavy metal naciese y se desarrollase, una vez más hablamos de la década de los setenta donde todo se gestó para terminar explotando con el nacimiento de la década de los ochenta, en este caso recurro a una de las obras más celebradas de la mencionada banda, su sexto LP de estudio "Hair of the dog", de 1975, considerada por seguidores y crítica como una de las más importantes de la banda y un disco fundamental dentro del hard rock. Black Sabbath - Tomorrow's Dream - Canciones Para Una Vida

TOMORROW'S  DREAM 

Corria el año 1972, y los británicos Black Sabbath comenzaban a recoger los frutos de sus tres discos anteriores en forma de reconocimiento general, pero también por ello, para su cuarta obra "Vol 4" parecían tener la necesidad de dar un paso más evolutivo, querían seguir creciendo para alcanzar el trono absoluto, y al mismo tiempo hacer crecer su sonido como también sentian que lo hacían ellos como músicos. No resulta nunca fácil ese tipo de circunstancias y el grupo ha reconocido que, aún sintiendo que seguramente "Vol 4" sea uno de sus mejores discos, recuerdan la grabación del mismo con sensaciones encontradas. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de las canciones de dicha obra, una especie de homenaje también a Ozzy con la reciente noticia de su muerte, dicho tema es "Tomorrow's drean" y de él dejo un enlace a youtube.

Albatross - After The Fire - Canciones Para Una Vida

AFTER  THE  FIRE 

De nuevo en busca de pioneros que puedan hacer entender más y mejor el sonido actual y global del heavy metal, traigo hoy al blog a los estadounidenses Albatross, de los que poca información puede encontrarse, y además varias son las bandas que escogieron ese nombre para desarrollar su carrera. Hablamos de la década de los setenta, cuando aún se estaba definiendo el sonido del heavy metal como tal, las evoluciones naturales de los subgéneros daban sus primeros pasos y muchas bandas mostraban su propia visión de esa evolución, siempre el hard rock primigenio tenía presencia más o menos evidente en ese tipo de bandas, y el proto hard 'n heavy podía vislumbrarse a mitad de década. estos Albatross grababan "Rockin' the sky" en 1975, con ese tipo de sonido, a medio camino del hard rock, del rock y del proto heavy metal, y de dicha obra dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube de su tema "After the fire".

AC/DC - Highway To Hell - Canciones Para Una Vida

HIGHWAY  TO  HELL 

Clasicón  para hoy, una canción de esas que trascienden a las fronteras y etiquetas, uno de los temas clásicos de una de las bandas por excelencia, "Highway to hell" de los australianos AC/DC, de un disco (homónimo), de 1979 y que sería el último del cantante Bon Scott antes de su muerte. estamos ante el sexto LP de la banda, con un nombre hecho, con fama y éxito, pero aún creciendo compositivamente, alcanzando ese punto de componer temas como el que hoy nos ocupa, en un disco que es mucho más que el título, pero del que dejo hoy en el blog este himno del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Thin Lizzy - Killer Without A Cause - Canciones Para Una Vida

KILLER  WITHOUT  A  CAUSE 

Los irlandeses Thin Lizzy son una banda importante, para muchos fundamental, para entender el comienzo y desarrollo del sonido heavy metal como tal, y esa importancia reside en su carrera en su conjunto, no es cuestión de una obra, de una canción, es toda una carrera consistente, un grupo currante, de los que impusieron su sonido y su influencia sobre otras bandas fue innegable. Formados en 1969, han ido atravesando periodos, que les ha llevado ha seguir hasta nuestros días con actividad intermitente a traves de seis décadas, que se dice pronto, y con un legado de trece LP's de estudio si contamos el LP acustico que editaron a comienzos de este 2025, aunque realmente no sacan material de estudio al uso desde 1983. UFO - Natural Thing - Canciones Para Una Vida

 

NATURAL  THING

Nuevo repaso al nacimiento del heavy metal hoy a través de nuevo de una de esas bandas cuya influencia ha sido reconocida por un buen puñado de nombres fundamentales dentro de nuestra escena, Steve Harris, Kirk Hammet, Dave Mustaine o Joey Tempest entre otros han reconocido lo fundamental de su influjo para su desarrollo futuro como músicos. En 1976 los británicos UFO editaban su quinto LP de estudio "No heavy petting", donde volvían a poner de manifiesto ese sonido característico a mitad de camino del hard rock de la época, el y el heavy metal de la casi incipiente NWOBHM. Pat Travers - Running From The Future - Canciones Para Una Vida

RUNNING  FROM  THE  FUTURE

Vamos con una pieza más del puzzle inicial de nuestro sonido, un gran rompecabezas de muchos orígenes que terminaría en su conjunto dando forma al sonido heavy metal, en este caso desde ese reverso más hard rock hablamos del guitarrista canadiense Pat Travers, que puso su granito de arena en la década de los setenta para nuestro sonido. Habiendo trabajado con nombres como Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden Batería) o Tommy Aldridge (Ozzy Osbourne, Thin Lizzy o Whitesnake Batería), como nombres más famosos vemos que el calado del músico tiene mucha profundidad y así, entre 1976 y 2019 ha editado más de veinticinco LP's de estudio. Axe - Battles - Canciones Para Una Vida

 

BATTLES

Los estadounidenses Axe son uno de esos grupos que han sabido moverse en ese indeterminado terreno a medio camino del hard rock y el heavy metal, el tan famoso y recurrente hard'n heavy que en la década de los ochenta encontró su propio espacio y que resulta para algunos de nosotros adictivo como estilo, imagino que por la versatilidad que permite sin caer en uno de los dos lados a lo largo de toda una obra. Formados en 1979 esta banda siempre demostró calidad y un gran gusto compositivo, con momentos importantes y una carrera irregular en lo que a asiduidad compositiva se refiere. Thor - Thunder - Canciones Para Una Vida

 

THUNDER

Vamos con otra banda de las que experimentaban a través de esa delgada línea que separa los sonidos, desde el rock al hard rock e incluso al heavy metal, todo ello cuando el heavy metal estaba aún naciendo, es decir en la década de los 80. Hoy me quiero referir a Thor, el grupo canadiense cuyo nombre está unido a la imagen del cantante Jhon Mikl "Thor", quien tras cambian en sus comienzos a la banda de nombre en múltiples ocasiones terminaría encontrando en Thor el nombre más acorde también a su imagen, hablamos de un ex culturista metido a cantante. Formados a comienzos de los 70, en 1977 debutarian en estudio a través de su primer LP "Keep the dogs away", un disco un tanto experimental, con un estilo ecléctico y variado, que vendería más de 50000 copias en su tierra, disco de oro, algo nada desdeñable y que dio el pistoletazo de salida a una carrera que ha extendido hasta nuestros días. De esta obra dejo la extrañamente adictiva "Thunder" que cadenciosa cierra la obra, y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Blackhorse - Fox Huntin' - Canciones Para Una Vida

FOX  HUNTIN' 

Vamos hoy con otro ejemplo del sonido primigenio, otra banda muy desconocida y de muy breve duración que sirve de ejemplo de las inquietudes compositivas de las bandas en la construcción hacia el sonido heavy metal propiamente dicho. Blackhorse se crean en Estados Unidos a finales de la década de los 70, con un sonido que bebía de la influencia hard rockera bluesera, que terminaron editando un solo LP en 1979 "Blackhorse" antes de separarse al poco de su publicación, imagino que por la poca repercusión en ventas del mismo. Sin embargo, una vez más el tiempo suele ser mejor juez con su transcurso, y en la obra encontramos momentos tan interesantes como este "Fox Huntin'" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Deep Purple - Love Child

 

LOVE  CHILD

Para 1975 los británicos Deep Purple habían completado ya una nada despreciable discografía, y parte de ella es considerada como la mejor de la banda. "Come taste the band" es el noveno album de estudio de la banda, el primero que la banda afronta sin Ritchie Blackmore, y por ello seguramente fue objeto de una más detenida observación en el momento de su presentación en el citado año de 1975, y facilmente menospreciado por la escusa de la salida de un músico tan importante no solo para el grupo pero sobre todo para ese grupo. El caso es que ese juicio se comporta injustamente con la propuesta de la banda que quedaba en activo para la obra, nombres tan importantes como John Lord, Ian Paice, Glenn Hughes o David Coverdale, además de la injusticia que siempre resulta la comparación hacia el sustituto de una figura importante, en este caso Tommy Bolin, joven guitarrista muy talentoso que solo dejaría muestra de ello en los Purple en esta obra, ya que moriría al siguiente año. El caso es que la obra presentaba temas mucho más que reseñables, sin ir más lejos "Love Child" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath

SABBATH  BLOODY  SABBATH

Para 1973, los británicos Black Sabbath ya habían editado cinco LP's de estudio, "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" era el quinto de ellos del citado año, e igualmente para muchos habían puesto las bases para la llegada de lo que vendría en denominarse como Heavy Metal. La verdad es que adjudicar el mérito de todo un sonido a una única banda me ha resultado siempre algo demasaido aventurado, pero de lo que no hay duda alguna es de lo fundamental de esta banda para explicar lo que vendría, sin duda fueron ejemplo para muchos. "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" hablaba compositivamente de una banda muy consolidada ya, muy importante por el éxito cosechado hasta la fecha, y para el que cambiaron de aires a la hora de componerlo, como buscando un nuevo retiro, en este caso a Gales y uno de sus castillos para encontrar la inspiración, desde luego les salio redonda la jugada pues la obra contiene clásicos del grupo y del rock como este "Sabbath bloody sabbath" que da nombre a la obra y del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Para el año 1978, los australianos editaban ya su quinto LP de estudio, "Powerage", para el que estrenaban bajista, (Cliff Williams tras la salida de Mark Evans), y a estas alturas la banda era ya conocida, respetada y seguida a un nivel bastante internacional. Una vez más hablamos de ventas millonarias, pero es que estamos ante una de las bandas que más han vendido, solo en Estados Unidos alcanzaron también con esta obra la certificación de disco de platino por vender más de un millón de copias de este "Powerage", que cuenta con grandes canciones como "Sin City" de la que dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Judas Priest - Sinner

 

SINNER

No por mucho repetirlo va a ser menos evidente, Judas Priest son una de esas piezas clave en lo que se llama heavy metal,y además deben ser considerados como uno de los pioneros entre los pioneros en el impulso de ese sonido recien nacido en los inicios de la banda, o incluso inexistente como tal. Para 1977 Judas grababa su ya tercer album de estudio, y un disco que destila heavy metal como ninguno otro hasta esa fecha lo había hecho. Después muchas bandas seguirían esa senda, que en solo un lustro desde la publicación de este album sería norma en la escena internacional, el heavy metal estaba aquí. De este tercer album de estudio, "Sin after sin" quiero dejar hoy en el blog una de sus canciones, "Sinner", un clásico de la banda y un gran tema, del que dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Arktis - Y.T.T.

También la escena alemana mostraba su inquietud por contribuir al heavy primigenio, al sonido que estaba evolucionando y creciendo alimentado por bandas grandes y otras no tanto, como fue el caso de Arktis, un grupo que apenas salió de la escena underground de su país, funcionando a base de demos y poco material publicado en formato EP, como "On the rocks", que recogía seis temas de las demos iniciales del grupo, hablamos de la primera mitad de los setenta sobre todo, material valiente para la época, que mostraba una base novedosa para aquel entonces y se nota hacia donde evolusionaría el sonido general de este tipo de gupos, el heavy metal como tal estaba dando sus primeros pasos y pronto estallaría a nivel planetario. De este "On The rocks" dejo en el blog hoy el tema Y.T,T, incluido como bonus track y del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Buffalo - Sunrise (Come My Way)

SUNRISE  (COME  MY  WAY)

Si pensamos en bandas pioneras de origen australiano es obligatorio e inevitable acordarse de AC/DC, una de las más famosas bandas del rock en general, pero en los primeros pasos del heavy metal en Australia no solo ellos estaban dando el callo, como en todas partes hubo más bandas que pusieron su granito de arena a la escena propia y a la general, y en Australia "Buffalo" desarrollaron desde muy temprano su propia carrera partiendo del hard rock y endureciendolo hacia el heavy metal en una suerte de hard 'n heavy. Formados en 1971 de las cenizas de "Head" entre el 68 y el 71, y su carrera solo se prolongaría hasta 1977 dejando en el camino cinco LP's de estudio. El segundo de ellos, "Volcanic rock", editado en 1973, presentaba grandes temas como este "Sunrise (Come my way)" del que dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube.
