TOMORROW'S  DREAM 

Corria el año 1972, y los británicos Black Sabbath comenzaban a recoger los frutos de sus tres discos anteriores en forma de reconocimiento general, pero también por ello, para su cuarta obra "Vol 4" parecían tener la necesidad de dar un paso más evolutivo, querían seguir creciendo para alcanzar el trono absoluto, y al mismo tiempo hacer crecer su sonido como también sentian que lo hacían ellos como músicos. No resulta nunca fácil ese tipo de circunstancias y el grupo ha reconocido que, aún sintiendo que seguramente "Vol 4" sea uno de sus mejores discos, recuerdan la grabación del mismo con sensaciones encontradas. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de las canciones de dicha obra, una especie de homenaje también a Ozzy con la reciente noticia de su muerte, dicho tema es "Tomorrow's drean" y de él dejo un enlace a youtube.

TV  CRIMES

Cuando un grupo alcanza las cotas de éxito y respeto general que alcanzó Black Sabbath, lo más dificil debe ser mantener el nivel, ser fieles a si mismos ya que en ese punto está la clave por la que alcanzarón ese éxito, sin embargo hay otro tipo de cuestiones que se salen de lo estrictamente musical o compositivo, como la ida y venida de miembros en las bandas, y como esa marcha de músicos afecta a lo que queda de la banda desde dentro y desde fuera, en el caso de Black Sabbath la salida de Ozzy Osbourne del grupo fue su momento más crítico, si puede expresarse así, con el cambio de década, al entrar los 80, el reemplazo fue nada menos que por Dio, y desde luego eso hizo posible que la banda continuase haciendo crecer su mito. En 1992, Black Sabbath editaba su décimo sexto LP de estudio, "Dehumanizer", que terminaría por ser el último del cantante citado y que muestra un sonido adaptado a la época y con la calidad de la banda que es imposible que no aparezca, un disco del que hoy dejo en el blog una de sus canciones, "TV Crimes" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

SABBATH  BLOODY  SABBATH

Para 1973, los británicos Black Sabbath ya habían editado cinco LP's de estudio, "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" era el quinto de ellos del citado año, e igualmente para muchos habían puesto las bases para la llegada de lo que vendría en denominarse como Heavy Metal. La verdad es que adjudicar el mérito de todo un sonido a una única banda me ha resultado siempre algo demasaido aventurado, pero de lo que no hay duda alguna es de lo fundamental de esta banda para explicar lo que vendría, sin duda fueron ejemplo para muchos. "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" hablaba compositivamente de una banda muy consolidada ya, muy importante por el éxito cosechado hasta la fecha, y para el que cambiaron de aires a la hora de componerlo, como buscando un nuevo retiro, en este caso a Gales y uno de sus castillos para encontrar la inspiración, desde luego les salio redonda la jugada pues la obra contiene clásicos del grupo y del rock como este "Sabbath bloody sabbath" que da nombre a la obra y del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

CHILDREN  OF  THE  GRAVE

De vuelta hacia los inicios de nuevo rebuscamos entre la extensa e importante discografía de los clásicos Black Sabbath, y fijandonos en la parte inicial de su carrera nos encontramos con su tercer LP de estudio, "Master of reality", de 1971, con la misión de confirmar su sonido presentado en sus dos primeros albumes, con la necesidad de ver si aquello antes parido era solo un espejismo o, creando escuela, generaría algo realmente importante, era realmente el inicio de su carrera, pero eran los años del inicio del sonido llamado Heavy metal y "Master of reality" mostraría todo lo esperado y más, evolucionando un paso más hacia el heavy metal como tal, con tema más poderosos, alimentando los mitos que se unen ancestralmente a nuestro género musical, temas como "Children of the grave" del que dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube.

HEAVEN  AND  HELL

De vuelta a los clásicos Black Sabbath ha de tener un puesto predominante como algunos otros grandes, históricos e influyentes nombres, y hoy rescataremos de nuevo uno de esos albumes importantes en sí mismos desde una perspectiva general, y también particular para la banda que en 1980, para abrir época, lanzaba su primer album sin Ozzy a la voz, tras su salida del grupo en 1977 para empezar su carrera en solitario tras la deriva negativa que venía teniendo el grupo británico en los últimos albumes, las luchas de poder interno así como el decadente abuso de sustancias de la mano del éxito desembocaría en la entrada de Dio en el grupo para editar su primer LP, este "Heaven and hell" en 1980, y que terminaría por ser una obra incontestablemente magnífica, influyente, innovadora dentro del estilo propio de Sabbath hasta ese momento, ahora con Dio más heavy, menos oscura, pesada doom, y claro, muy espejo en el que mirarse para la explosión de heavy metal planetaria que ya se venía gestando y que desde ahí explotaría en esos primeros años de la década de los 80. Hoy quiero dejar otro de sus temas antológicos, el inevitable e irreprochable tema que da nombre a la obra, "Heaven and hell" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Black Sabbath - Iron Man

IRON  MAN

Para mucha gente, como idea ya preconcebida, en el argumentario general del metalhead de "a pie", Black Sabbath fue prácticamente inventora del heavy metal, se da por hecho que su nombre va unido al inicio de ese sonido, pero a mi me parece que focalizar tanto, a pesar de que pueda llevar una parte de la razón, se antoja un tanto injusto o irreal respecto al  concepto de evolución progresiva del sonido procedente de otros y evolucionado por muchos, para llegar a lo que es hoy en día, y de entre esos ingredientes sin duda alguna el de Black Sabbath no es solo importante sino innegable además. En 1970 editaban su segundo LP de estudio, "Paranoid", donde se podía mascar ya mucho sonido afín al heavy metal, temas como "Iron Man", del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube, Balck Sabbath, cimientos clásicos.

THE SOUND OF THE SOUTHERN CROSS

Black Sabbath es uno de los grandes clásicos, y no solo por su obra en sí, sino por los músicos que se han involucrado con esta formación en algún momento de su vida. así, nombres como Tony Iommi, Ozzy Osbourney, Ronnie James Dio, Vinny Appice, Ian Gillan, Glenn Hughes, e incluso Rob Halford (quien tuvo una etapa entre 1992 y 2004 en que colaboró en Directos con Black Sabbath) entre otros, hablan de un grupo de leyenda. Se forman en Brimingham en 1968, por el guitarrista y principal compositor Tony Iommi, el bajista Geezer Butler, el cantante Ozzy Osbourne y el batería Bill Ward. La banda ha sufrido múltiples cambios aunque el denominador común que siempre ha estado en el grupo es Iommi. Uno de los más notables cambió en el grupo se refiere a la salida de Ozzy Osbourne del grupo en 1979 por el continuo uso y abuso de drogas del cantante. Será sustituido nada más y nada menos que por Dio. En 1997, Ozzy regresa al grupo hasta 2006, año en el que el grupo cesa en su actividad, hasta 2011 en el que regresan a la actividad. A "Black Sabbath" se le considera como uno de los pioneros en el sonido "Heavy Metal" gracias a albumes como "Black Sabbath" y "Paranoid" de 1970 o a "Master of reality" de 1971. La leyenda de esta banda se compone de 19 discos de estudio más 4 EP's a lo largo de sus más de 40 años de historia. Hoy quiero hablar de otro de sus discos míticos, el segundo con Dio a la voz, "Mob Rules", de 1981, y el décimo ya de la banda a lo largo de su historia, vendiendo hasta 1986 solo en Estados Unidos más de medio millón de copias, más de 60 000 en Inglaterra o más de 50 000 en Canadá, un disco en el que encontramos canciones legendarias como este "The sound of the Northern Cross" del que quiero dejar hoy un enlace a youtube.
