Otra banda más de las desconocidas a nivel general, en este caso los australianos Rossana's Raiders, que desarrollaron su corta carrera en la parte final de la década de los ochenta y a los que se puede englobar también en ese grupo de bandas denominadas White Metal por su temática cristiana y su fondo compositivo de heavy metal. Cuatro son los discos que publicaron en su periodo de actividad que se extendió durante y hasta el final de la década de los ochenta. Su tercer LP lleva por título "Calling down fire", y salió a la venta en 1988, disco del que dejo hoy en el blog la canción "We are raiders" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

OPINIONATE 

Buceando en la historia matálica rescatamos hoy en el blog una banda estadounidense de esas que ha tenido su momento aunque para la mayor parte de la gente absolutamente desconocidos. Esta banda es de esas que se forman en el entorno de compañeros de colegio, en este caso a finales de la década de los setenta, desarrollando la mayor parte de su carrera entre finales de los ochenta y comienzos de los 2000, con 6 LP's de estudio. El sonido escogido por la banda está a medio camino del heavy power y el thrash metal, sobre todo tendiendo al thrash a medida que desarrollaban su carrera. Scanner - Terrion - Canciones Para Una Vida

 

TERRION 

De vuelta hoy  a uno de esos discos que le acompañan a uno desde siempre y que a pesar de haber disfrutado desde el comienzo como lo que es, un auténtico discazo, siempre terminas por sorprenderte de la cantidad de gente que no conoce a la banda, evidentemente en el momento en que sacaron la obra, (1988) y en que se creó el grupo, (1986), la escena estaba en plena efervescencia, y no solo, también en pleno cambio, evolución, y bandas tardías en lo suyo, como los alemanes Scanner y su heavy speedico y melódico, llegaban un pelín tarde para aumentar su cupo de seguidores cuando la moda era ya engancharse a cuestiones más extremas como el thrash o a sonidos comerciales del otro lado del charco como el hard rock o los otros incipientes estilos y subgéneros, pero sea como fuere, la banda Scanner creo que siempre mereció más credito, mayor atención general, y la prueba es su debut "Hypertrace" que resulta ser una más que digna obra de sonido clásico acelerado que debería haberles abierto muchas más puertas de lo que lo hizo. Vicious Rumors - Lady Took A Chance - Canciones Para Una Vida

 

LADY  TOOK  A  CHANCE 

Cuando una banda acierta, acierta, y eso precisamente hicieron los estadounidenses Vicious Rumors en 1988 a través de su segundo LP de estudio "Digital Dictator" todo un clásico actualmente, uno de esos discos sin descartes, una obra que les puso en el mapa y les elevaría más adelante hacia las alturas metálicas, una obra mucho más que recomendable, fundamental diría yo para hacerse una idea general del todo llamado Heavy Metal. En este año, en que la banda editará en agosto un nuevo LP "The Devil's Asylum" que será su décimo cuarto LP de estudio, es siempre buen momento para repasar su discografía, máxime con obras de la talla de este "Digital Dictator" del que dejo hoy en el blog su canción "Lady Took A Chance" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Running Wild - Blown To Kingdom Come - Canciones Para Una Vida

Hacía ya tiempo que no rescataba algún tema del pasado glorioso de una de mis bandas preferidas, los germanos Running Wild, y hoy me ha venido a la cabeza el enorme disco "Port Royal" de 1988, uno de los mejores de la banda en opinión general, quizá un disco más variado de lo que acostumbra la banda y que personalmente recomendaría entero. Estamos hablando del cuarto disco de estudio de la banda en un gran momento compositivo que queda patente en cada canción, de entre las que hoy quiero dejar en el blog "Blown to kingdom come", con su toque cadencioso, al tiempo que poderoso e hímnico, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Tattoo - Top Of The Rock - Canciones Para Una Vida

 

TOP  OF  THE  ROCK

Recuperemos hoy a otra banda de esas perdidas del pasado, los estadounidenses Tattoo, una banda gestada en los ochenta que estuvo en activo poco más de una década publicando solo dos obras de estudio que enmarcaron en un sonido heavy metal. El grupo seguía en cierta forma la línea compositiva clásica de la época aunque con una cierta vocación hard 'n heavy, y su debut editado en inicialmente en 1985 en formato cassette se reedita con algún tema extra en 1988 en formato vinilo. Ozzy Osbourne - Breaking All The Rules - Canciones Para Una Vida

 

BREAKING  ALL  THE  RULES

La carrera del británico Ozzy Osbourne en solitario siempre fue un buen ejemplo de como rodearse de buenos músicos para asegurar un buen resultado sin depender exclusivamente de un nombre importante como siempre fue el suyo. Para finales de los ochenta el músico ya había lanzado varios discos importantes no solo para su discografía sino que, como el tiempo ha mostrado, también para el sonido heavy metal en general, y en 1988 editaba su quinto LP "No rest for the wicked", con el que presentaba en sociedad a un desconocido Zakk Wylde, que aportó su toque personal a la obra, es otro de esos guitarristas muy reconocibles. Canciones para una vida - Vicious Rumors - Worlds And Machines

WORLDS  AND  MACHINES

Muchas son las canciones que puede uno destacar de esta obra, no solo para mí, el momento cumbre en la discografía de los estadounidenses Vicious Rumors, y esto lo considero así, por el momento de la banda y el momento del heavy metal como conjunto, era el momento de sacar una obra como esta, y era la formación prefecta de la banda para hacerlo, de hecho, en este disco se juntan y durante ocho años no cambian nada, solo la muerte del cantante Carl Albert cambiaría ese punto. El caso es que estamos ante un clásico, uno de esos discos que marcan a una banda como creadora de la obra, y a muchas otras como espejo en el que mirarse, "Digital Dictator" de 1988 merece el aura de obra de culto que ahora ostenta, y casi escogiendo cualquier tema puede quedar claro, hoy yo me he encaprichado de este "Worlds and machines" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Force 3 - Warrior Of Light

WARRIOR  OF  LIGHT

Nueva inmersión en el océano de bandas desconocidas, muchas de ellas mono disco, que pulularon en la escena internacional sin llegar a asomar en la superficie, en este caso volvemos a la escena británica a través de la banda "Force 3", activa puntualmente en la parte final de los 80, con un único LP editado en 1988 titulado "Warrior of light". Sonido heavy metal, con un aire clásico y épico al mismo tiempo y de temática cristiana, con innegable potencial, una más que con otras circunstancias podría haber mantenido una carrera larga y aceptada, la historia de tantos y tantos otros. Canciones para una vida - Yngwie Malmsteen - Riot In The Dungeons

RIOT  IN  THE  DUNGEONS

Vamos con uno de los mejores momentos compositivos del guitarrista sueco Yngwie Malmsteen, se trata de "Odyssey" de 1988, heredero este disco del para mí insuperable "Trilogy" que muestra esa época magistral del genial músico que siempre supo rodearse muy bien por otros que le hicieran brillar aún más si cabe, en esta ocasión, para su "Odyssey" nada menos que Joe Lynn Turner a la voz, Jens Johansson a los teclados, Andres Johansson a la bateria y Bob Daisley al bajo. Una breve carrera con un único fruto en forma de LP, "Break Out" de 1988, se trata de la historia de la banda austriaca "Reward" con su heavy metal melódico de factura ochentera, carrera desarrollada entre los años 1986 y 1992, por supuesto al margen del éxito comercial, e igualmente por supuesto con potencial de sobra para porder haber tenido mayor repercusión. Canciones para una vida - Helloween - You Always Walk Alone

 

YOU  ALWAYS  WALK  ALONE

De vuelta al blog uno de los indiscutibles discos imprescindibles del heavy metal, la segunda parte de la dupla "Keeper of the seven keays", para muchos, (yo incluido) una obra perfecta, por lo compositivo e interpretativo y por lo histórico. Hoy me quiero centrar en el tema "You always walk alone", uno de los temas compuestos por Michael Kiske, y que en realidad podría considerarse como una versión ya que la banda, primer hogar del citado Kiske, "Ill Prophecy", que funcionase entre 1984 y 1986, en su única demo editada en 1986 ya presentaba este tema entre sus cinco totales, al igual que "A little time" que formase parte del primero de los "Keeper". La verdad es que siempre he defendido la figura de Kiske como intérprete, porque en general sus incursiones como compositor siempre se me antojaron bastante dificiles de entender, aunque claro, con excepciones, y desde luego, estos temas compuestos a inicios de su carrera, cuando aún no había llegado ese momento de "odio metálico" que atravesó, y que derivó en sus composiciones demasiado personales, fueron de lo mejorcito sin duda, al menos hasta la fecha. Poco más que añadir, que podemos decir de una obra de este calibre, solo dejar un enlace a youtube de este "You always walk alone" de 1988.

Canciones para una vida - Virgin Steele - Chains Of Fire

 

CHAINS  OF  FIRE

Dueños de un éxito moderado, tirando a flojo en esa primera parte de su carrera, los estadounidenses Virgin Steele son buen ejemplo de como era la escena americana, y puede extrapolarse al resto del planeta, en lo que se refiere a la importancia del apoyo discográfico a la hora de hacer crecer a una banda. Firmando con sellos menores, el grupo premanecía demasiado en el lado del "Potencial" para no terminar de explotar, faltando el plus de una buena promoción y quizá de algún que otro consejo para haber dado más lustre a su material, o al enfoque para venderlo. El caso es que la década de los ochenta en que nació este grupo les vió publicar cuatro LP's de estudio en una onda de heavy metal clásico, con todos los rasgos que darían su personalidad a la banda pero digamos un poco atenuados, la década de los noventa con un giro más hacia el power y una producción más lustrosa fue el impulso que la banda necesitaba, sin embargo la creatividad de la banda estaba presente desde el inicio. "Age of consent" fue la cuarta obra de estudio en su carrera, de 1988, y de ella quiero hoy dejar en el blog otro de los temas que la componen, hoy "Chains of fire" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - V2 - Hunter Of Love

 

HUNTER  OF  LOVE

Los germanos V2, tuvieron su ocasión a finales de la década de los ochenta, en un momento una vez más de dificultad y adaptación, donde el heavy metal evolucionaba hacia otras cosas, y el hard rock se empapaba de la predominancia americana, dejando un escenario complicado a las bandas que trataban de aparecer, por el hecho mismo de iniciar una carrera y la decisión del marco sonoro que utilizar para desarrollarla con intenciones de alcanzar el éxito. V2 se decantaron por esa fina linea que separa el hard rock del heavy metal, y contaron con el apoyo de una importante discográfica de la época "Noise", que les brindó la posibilidad de girar con "Helloween" nada menos, recuerdo cuando cayó en mis manos el vinilo del "Keeper II" siendo yo un chavalín, regalazo de mi padre, y como llamó mi atención en la funda interior con las letras del disco ver el nombre impreso de V2, en ese momento era casi la manera más directa de llegar al gran público que no te conocía, eran otros tiempos, la promoción era mucho más dificil y V2 tuvo una oportunidad de oro con dicha gira. Poco después de sacar su segundo LP "Out Of Launch" en 1990 se separan con solo dos LP's editados, el citado segundo del 90 y su debut, autotitulado en 1988, y del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog otra de sus canciones, hoy "Hunter of love" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

 "Operation Mindcrime" es una de esas obras en las que parece haber un consenso a la hora de reconocerla como uno de los momentos cumbre de la historia de la banda estadounidense Queensryche. Estamos en el año 1988, y muchos grupos toman caminos diferentes siguiendo las nuevas tendencias y mezclándolas a su antojo o según sus necesidades compositivas, Queensryche utilizó siempre muchos elementos diferentes para crear su propia salsa, con ingrediente de heavy metal clásico, de sonido progresivo y de hard rock, casi a partes iguales, siempre con la esencia de fondo de la escuela americana. Como digo, en este particular de lo referente a la obra hay un consenso casi general de la altura total a la que brilla, y yo no puedo sino unirme a esa idea, casi al azar cada tema que se elija será un acierto, hoy por ejemplo la espectacular "Eyes of a stranger" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Danton - Way Of Destiny

 

WAY  OF  DESTINY 

Siempre se ha dado el caso en la historia de la música, y en otros muchos casos, de que la sombra alargada en forma de éxito de un familiar se lo pusiera más complicado a otro del mismo clan por el simple hecho de se hermano, hijo o lo que fuese de aquel que ya había alcanzado el éxito en primer lugar. En ese caso podemos encontrarnos en lo referente a la banda germana "Danton" encarnada en la figura de su vocalista Peter Dirkschneider, hermano pequeño, como resulta evidente por el apellido, del cantante de Accept, Udo, algo que resulta evidente una vez más al escuchar el timbre de su voz, una tesitura particular en ambos casos y completamente reconocible. El caso es que Danton lo intentaron cuando Accept ya gozaba de un estatus altisimo, tras una buena colección de obras de altísimo nivel, uno de los pioneros del heavy metal germano y en general. Sea por este u otro motivo, Danton cosechó poco o ningún éxito en su breve carrera de solo dos años con solo un LP editado el año en que se desarman como banda, 1988. "Way of destiny" fue el título de la obra, el heavy metal de corte clásico el marco escogido, y de ello dejo hoy en el blog el tema que lo dio nombre, y del que dejo un enlace a youtube. Otro cadaver musical olvidado en la historia ochentera.

HEAVIER  THAN  HELL

Hablar de Loudness es hacerlo de una de las más grandes bandas japonesas, una de las más internacionales, de las más conocidas y reconocidas, que ha intentado todo, la épca japonesa, con LP's en su lengua natal, la época de introducción a la escena internacional con versiones de sus obras en las dos lenguas, (Japones e Inglés) con integrantes totalmente nipones, la época inglesa, con LP's en dicha lengua y cantante internacional de la talla de Mike Vescera nada menos, y vuelta a formacion nipona con lp's en ambas lenguas y luego incluso solo en japones. Hablamos de una trayectoria desde 1981 hasta nuestros días, dificil contar sus obras que rondan los 30 LP's, cada par como mucho de años, como un reloj, más de un año editando dos LP's diferentes, heavy metal clásico, de buena factura, en definitiva una gran banda en la que sumergirse. A ello hemos de añadir cuatro EP's, y de entre ellos, en 1988 editaban este "Jealousy" con con seis temas y casi media hora, y del que hoy dejo en el blog uno de sus temas, "Heavier than hell", de la que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube. Formación completamente nipona en ese momento.

WHERE  DRAGONS  RULE

Crimson Glory es otra de esas bandas que goza de un estatus alto, en lo que se refiere a banda de culto, un grupo que en su momento de actividad desperto menos aceptación que tras su separación, uno de esos grupos que han visto como su material se aceptaba más, se apreciaba más con los años, quizá el enfoque progresivo fue algo precoz a sus años iniciales, quizá lo personal de la voz de su cantante no sea para todo el mundo, sin embargo creo que sinceramente la calidad es siempre una constante en lo que rodea al grupo, objetivamente, lo demás es subjetivo y por lo tanto cada uno tendrá su opinión. En 1988 editaban estos estadounidenses su segundo LP de estudio, "Transcendence" de los cuatro que han editado hasta la fecha de esta reseña. En su primera época en activo hasta 1991, solo editarían otro más y después en una segunda época de actividad entre 1999 y 2000 editarían el cuarto. El segundo disco es para muchos su mejor material, con ese estilo un tanto "Queensryche", se pueden destacar muchos temas de esta obra, porque en su conjunto brilla el disco, por ejemplo en el tema "Where dragons rule" del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Sieges Even - The road To Iliad

 

THE  ROADS  TO  ILIAD

Vamos con una mezcla, digamos, poco habitual, el thrash con un concepto compositivo progresivo, a ello, hay que añadir el dato del momento en que se dió, finales de los 80, una época fenomenal para el thrash, pero no tanto para la vertiente progresiva, y menos unida, como decía más arriba, al thrash. Se trata de los germanos "Sieges Even", un grupo que intermitentemente siguió sacando material de estudio, aunque cambiando un poco su estilo, centrándolo poco a poco más en la vertiente progresiva, con cambios también incluidos de nombre de la banda. El caso es que entre 1982 y 2008, en diferentes épocas editaron un total de 7 LP's de estudio, el primero de ellos de 1988, "Lifecycle", con el enfoque más "Thrash" de todas sus obras, pero con ese trasfondo progresivo absolutamente presente, y del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus temas, concretamente uno de los temas instrumentales, "The roads to Iliad" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

BRING  ME  A  HERO

Un nuevo ejemplo del hard 'n heavy que se llevaba en la década de los ochenta encarnado en esta ocasión en otra de las muchísimas bandas desconocidas, y muchas de ellas monodisco, que poblaron los años de aquella mágica década en lo que al heavy metal se refiere. De nuevo nos metemos en la escena sueca, para rescatar del olvido a la banda N.J.B., como digo ampliamente desconocida, con un breve periodo de actividad hacia la parte final de la citada década, y que dejo como único fruto de su actividad el LP "Heroes" en 1988, del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog el tema "Bring me a hero" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.
