TNT - Tor With The Hammer

TOR  WITH  THE  HAMMER 

Los noruegos TNT se harían una famosa banda ochentera por su vertiente más melódica, asaltando la escena americana y a través de ella todo el planeta con sus discos más orientados al heard rock melódico y el AOR, sin embargo, los inicios del grupo resultaron mucho más contundentes en su propuesta compositiva, con ese heavy metal quizá melódico desde el inicio, que exhibieron en su debut y segunda obra que hoy nos ocupa, "Knights of the new thunder" de 1984, y del que quiero dejar hoy en el blog otra de sus canciones que ilustra perfectamente lo dicho, concretamente "Tor with the hammer" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Saxon - Just Let Me Rock

JUST  LET  ME  ROCK 

Clásico una vez más de un clásico, los británicos Saxon y su "Crusader" de 1984. Siempre con esa sensación sobrevolando la carrera de la banda de que a pesar del reconocimiento, de su estatus de pioneros etc, siempre se les ha puesto un escalón por debajo, injustamente, de otros grandes nombres coetaneos a su carrera. En "Crusader" encontramos temas no solo fundamentales para el repertorio de la banda, canciones que aún presentan en vivo, sino temas eternos para la propia historia del heavy metal en sí. W.A.S.P. - L.O.V.E. Machine

L.O.V.E.  MACHINE

Clásico, en todos los sentidos, el primer LP de los estadounidenses W.A.S.P. llegó en su época (1984) para ser transgresor, para no pasar desapercibido, para marcar su carrera, la de otros, e inscribir en mayúsculas su nombre en el libro del heavy metal. Es la banda algo más que lo sonoro, es el dramatismo implícito a su imagen, y es solo el principio de su propia historia que les ha llevado a los puestos más altos entre las bandas a nivel internacional. Lee Aaron - Lady Of The Darkest Night

 

LADY  OF  THE  DARKEST  NIGHT 

Pionera en una época más complicada que la actual para liderar una banda de heavy, Lee Aaron llegaba a comienzos de los ochenta desde Canada para mostrar al planeta que no era solo una imagen y que su propuesta era tan valida como la de cualquier otra banda independientemente del sexo de sus integrantes. "Metal Queen", de 1984 era el segundo album del grupo y aunque eclipsado por el tema que le daba nombre y al que siempre estuvo supeditada la figura de la cantante, el disco fue algo más, con temas más que interesantes como por ejemplo "Lady of the darkest night" del que dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Iron Maiden - The Duellists

THE  DUELLISTS 

Que facil resulta escoger una canción de una obra como esta, de una banda como esta en una época como la de este disco (1984, quinto LP del grupo, creciendo, asentandose y conquistando un planeta entero). Y es que los ochenta y Iron Maiden son sinónimo de perfección, es el germen de un grupo que alcanzó el estatus de legendario por méritos propios, y la obra, perfecta, solo podía tener como secuela una obra en vivo que motraba la presentación en directo a nivel global de Powerslave en el mejor directo que he escuchado jamás, "Live after death" de 1985. Poco que añadir a un mito vivo, solo rescatar otro de los temas que hacen de la obra lo que es, en esta ocasión "The duellists" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

TNT - Knights Of The Thunder

KNIGTHS  OF  THE  THUNDER 

Los noruegos TNT son un excelente ejemplo de como los comienzos de una banda no tienen por qué necesariamente marcar el camino compositivo de esa banda para el resto de su carrera ya que con un comienzo en un estilo bastante hard ' n heavy, en sus primeras dos obras que se publican a comienzos de la década de los ochenta, (recordemos que la banda se había formado en 1982), y en ese mismo año de 1982 debutan con "TNT", al que se considera el primer album de heavy metal cantado en noruego. La verdad es que es más un hard 'n heavy que heavy metal en sí como antes he mencionado, pero para ese debut con el sonido más duro de lo hecho por la banda, la formación original contaba con un cantante que para el segundo album ya no estaría siendo sustituido por Tony Harnell, en su segunda obra "Knights of the new thunder" de 1984, donde también por ese motivo mencionado la banda buscaría terreneos mucho más suaves compositivamente hablando desembocando en una hard AOR el resto de su carrera por otra parte muy exitosa. Hoy dejo en el blog uno de los temas de su segundo album, concretamente "Knights of the thunder", que aún conserva parte de esa mayor agresividad del inicio de la carrera de la banda, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Gary Moore - Lonely Nights - Canciones Para Una Vida

LONELY  NIGHTS 

Otra figura imponente de la guitarra, uno de esos puristas, que flirteo con varios géneros, incluyendo su parte final más orientada al blues, pero con un inicio de carrera más que recomendable con ese sonido hard 'n heavy incluso y ese enorme gusto compositivo, es el irlandés Gary Moore. En una de esas cuestiones peculiares, graba su disco "Dirty Fingers" en 1980 para terminar publicándolo de forma oficial en Japón en 1983 y en Inglaterra y a nivel global en 1984, será su tercera obra de estudio en pleno sonido inicial de su carrera, un disco del que quiero dejar en el blog hoy una de sus canciones, "Lonely nights" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Reckless - Heart Of Steel

HEART  OF  STEEL

La escena canadiense siempre fue una alternativa en número de bandas y calidad de las mismas a la mismisima escena estadounidense, sobre todo en la década de los ochenta y siempre teniendo en cuenta las diferencias de población. El caso es que resulta muy interesante buscar bandas desconocidas en esa cantera y particularmente la citada década fue una de las que dejo una gran cantidad de grupos en el camino. En este marco llega Reckless, que formados a finales de los 70 desarrollan su breve carrera a comienzos de los 80, con ese concepto tan del momento del hard 'n heavy, y esos temas tan característicos del momento repartidos en dos LP's de estudio, 1980 y 1984. "Heart of steel" es el segundo de los discos del grupo, por lo tanto de 1984, que resultaría ser el último antes de su separación en 1987. Canciones para una vida - Black Widow - Blade Runner

BLADE  RUNNER

La escena ochentera belga resultó ser, además de ciertamente underground bastante prolífica y de calildad, sobre todo teniendo en cuenta que todo lo que en esos años iniciales de la citada década no procediese de la escena británica o estadounidense era considerado una cosa exótica como mínimo, pero las escenas, sobre todo europeas, y en América la canadiense, iban cavando a lo suyo, en silencio, casi siempre sin reconocimiento, en la oscuridad del anonimato, pero creando grupos, bandas en no pocas ocasiones monodisco, que no encontraban los medios económicos para seguir ya que los compositivos quedaba claro que los llevaban de serie. Otro ejemplo el de estos belgas, "Black Widow", heavy metal de la vieja escuela, periodo de actividad entre 1980 y 1987, fruto compositivo su único album de estudio "Streetfighter" de 1984 y del que dejo hoy en el blog su tema "Blade Runner" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Faithful Breath - Princess In Disguise

PRINCESS  IN  DISGUISE

Los alemanes Faithful Breath se sacaron de la manga en 1984 uno de esos discos magníficos, imponentes y que deberían haber sido reconocidos como más importantes, ya que el nivel de la obra es alto y sostenido, y es que Faithful Breath es uno de esos grupos que desarrollo su carrera muy temprano en lo que al heavy en general se refiere, se formaron en 1967 aunque bajo otro nombre (the magic power), por entonces el rock progresivo era su sonido, luego en 1974 cambian a Faithful breath, y su sonido evoulciona hacia el hard 'n heavy y el heavy metal, hasta que a mitad de los 80, en su segunda parte vuleven a cambiar para buscar el speed metal Thrash bajo el nombre de Risk con el que finalizan su periplo a mitad de los 90. Como decía al inicio en 1984, editan su quinto LP (y penúltimo) como Faithful Breath, "Gold 'n Glory" del que se pueden destacar casi todos los temas, ahí está su mayor virtud, el nivel medio de la obra, otro ejemplo este "Princess in disguise" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Parasite - Lonely Eagle

 

LONELY  EAGLE

Otro clarisimo ejemplo de bandas potencialmente capaces de algo muy grande pero que se quedaron en apenas una pequeña pincelada de lo que podría haber llegado a ser. Estamos hablando de los suecos "Parasite" que desarrollan su carrera breve entre los años 1981 y 1985 con la publicación de un único material en formato EP titulado con el nombre de la banda "Parasite", un total de cinco canciones, algo menos de veinte minutos que fueron sin embargo tiempo y material suficientes como para que el paso del tiempo haya dejado claro su citado potencial y esa sensación repetida de banda prematuramente perdida en el anonimato. Hoy dejo en el blog otro ejemplo con otro de sus temas, en este caso el que cierra el EP, "Lonely Eagle" lleva por título y de ella dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Philadelphis - Razor's Edge

 

RAZOR'S  EDGE

Seguimos en esa línea de bandas desconocidas, ochenteras, con poca discografía aunque interesante, en este caso de otra de las grandes escenas de la época, la estadounidense. Son "Philadelphia", que editaron tan solo bajo este nombre dos LP's de estudio en la primera parte de su carrera, que luego, como ha ocurrido en otros muchos casos con bandas de este tipo, intentaron una segunda parte varias décadas después, y como suele ser también costumbre, con poca repercusión igualmente en este reintento. En este caso editan su tercer LP en 2016, aunque siguen en teoría en activo. La banda practicaba un heavy metal de corte clásico, propio de la escuela de la que vienen, mostrando ese punto interesante que los grupos de esos años tenían. El primero de sus discos llevó por título "Tell the truth" de 1984, y de él quiero dejar en el blog el tema "Razor's Edge" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Chinawhite - Run For Cover

 

RUN  FOR  COVER

De nuevo otra banda más monodisco, una de esas muchas que intentaron abrirse camino para chocarse con la realidad de la saturación de la década ochentera a la que pertenecieron, una más de las casi infinitas que se englobaron en el movimiento de la NWOBHM, británicos por lo tanto. Es un grupo más, con todo lo que ello implica, que quedó enterrado en el olvido antes siquiera de haber arrancado, y como muchas de esas bandas, con su lado interesante al menos, con muchoas aspectos mejorables, por supuesto, entre ellos la producción, pero con ese aura que las bandas ochenteras poseían, quizá también por el mismo hecho de la falta de los medios actuales, lo que les hacía sonar absolutamente auténticos. Formados en 1981, "Chinawhite" editan solo un LP en 1984, de título "Run for cover", en una clave de heavy metal melódico, un cierto toque a los primeros Def Leppard si se quiere. Con los medios justos, incluidas sus dotes musicales, si que supieron encontrar ese espíritu al que me refería más arriba, por ejemplo en temas como el que da nombre a la obra, y del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Scorpions - Bad Boys Running Wild

 

BAD  BOYS  RUNNING  WILD

Vamos hoy de nuevo con un clásico, y que hay más clásico que Scorpions y su material ochentero, en concreto su dico de 1984 "Love at first sting" hogar de el archi famoso "Still loving you", una de esas canciones que ha trascendido las fronteras metálicas para pasar a ser patrimonio de la humanidad, y además, resulta que para 1984 la banda estaba a nivelón, se conocían ya de memoria, y tenían ese toque, ese don de saber lo que ofrecer para que su propuesta fuera atractiva para millones, estaban en su momento seguramente de mayor fama mundial. Otra de las canciones que utilizaron para promocionar su obra fue "Bad boys running wild", tipico single de Scorpions y canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Virgin - Ice And Fire

 

ICE  AND  FIRE

Nueva demostración de la interminable colección de bandas ochenteras en clave de heavy metal clásico que inundaban la escena internacional en dicha década, lo que contribuyó también a que muchas de ellas no pudiesen asomar casi ni la cabeza y que llegaran a desaparecer demasiado prematuramente, la idea tantas veces expuesta. Hoy la banda es "Virgin", en clave de heavy metal, en la primera mitad de la década y en la floreciente por entonces escena germana. Es bajo esas premisas inevitable sacar a relucir el espejo por antonomasia de Accept, espejo compositivo en que se miraron muchos de aquellos ilusionados germanos que intentaban demostrar algo en el mundillo. En este caso hay ciertos momentos vocales un tanto "Acceptianos", pero en general se trata de un heavy metal clasicote que gustará a los amantes del género aún en pañales, el original. Solo editó la banda este LP "Virgin" en 1984, seguido por un EP al año siguiente "Mary Anne", antes de diluirse su esfuerzo en la nada y desaparecer, una vez más una pena por el potencial. Canciones para una vida - Dark Wizard - Big Typhoon

 

BIG  TYPHOON

Vamos con el primer material editado por la banda holandesa "Dark Wizard" de la que ya he hablado en este blog. Hablamos de la exhuberante escena de los 80, demoledoramente inabarcable, muy sincera ya que muchas bandas, con toda la ilusión, eso si, eran onscientes de la dificultad de salir adelante por los problemas promocionales inherentes a la época, por la saturación de la escena y mil motivos más, lo que por otra parte les hacía sin complejos construir música para sí mismos, lo que es siempre un plus. Dark Wizard llegaban a mitad de los 80, editando en 1984 este primer material en formato EP, "Devil's Victim" con cinco temas, algo que vería su continuidad en 1985 con su primer LP y único de esa primera época, hablamos siempre de heavy metal clásico, como digo honesto, sin más pretensiones pero lleno con todas las virtudes de ese propósito. Canciones para una vida - Darxon - Stormbringer

 

STORMBRINGER

Nuevo caso de banda ochentera, en esta ocasión de origen germano,de esas que desarrollaron una carrera breve, enmarcada en heavy metal de la vieja escuela, publicando sus obras entre la segunda mitad de los ochenta y comienzos de los 90. Su actividad se desarrolla entre 1983 y 1992, editando 3 LP's y un EP, para desaparecer como banda. Tuvieron un timido resurgir bajo otro nombre "Noxrad" en 2006, pero desconozco que hayan editado material bajo ese nombre. Como digo heavy metal sin excesos ni adornos, muy de la época. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog un ejemplo de su sonido perteneciente al disco "Killed In Action" de 1984, el primero de los que editaron, y de dicha obra dejo la canción "Stormbringer" que la cierra, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Buzzard - We Are Heavy Rockers

 

WE  ARE  HEAVY  ROCKERS

Buzzard fue un grupo belga que desarrollo su carrera, breve, entre los años 1981 y 1985, editando en ese periodo un único LP de estudio, "Gambler". Su sonido se movía en un heavy metal de la old school un tanto acelerado, no se si hasta el punto de incluirlo como speed metal. Como tantas bandas de aquella época apenas llegó a despuntar antes de hundirse en el olvido, mostrando una pincelada de lo que la animada y desconocida cantera belga era capaz de ofrecer, ya que muchos grupos en esos años salían de dicha escena aunque pocas llergaron a tener repercusión internacional. Tampoco es que fuese una obra para cambiar nada, pero es buen ejemplo una vez más de lo honesto del planteamiento de esa época, y de la cantidad de bandas ocultas al gran público  que hubo en los ochenta. De este su único LP de 1984, "Gabler" quiero hoy dejar en el blog el tema "We are heavy rockers" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Judas Priest - Eat Me Alive

 

EAT  ME  ALIVE

Hablamos una vez más de uno de los mejores momentos del heavy metal en general, y de esta banda en particular, y al referirnos a esta banda en concreto nos acercamos mucho a lo que debería ser la definición casi perfecta del heavy metal como sonido, así pues, "Defenders of the faith" de Judas Priest, de 1984, debería contener algunos de los mejores temas de la historia, y desde luego alguno de ellos lo será, varios ya han sido mencionados en el blog, y hoy traigo uno de los que muchos dejan fuera, quizá de los que paraotros, formando parte de la segunda mitad de la obra, bajan el nivel de la misma para no poder considerar a "Defenders of the faith" como su mejor disco. Por ello mismo, quiero hoy traer este tema al blog, pues "Eat me alive" no deja de ser un temazo, una demostración del nivelón de los británicos que son capaces de componer temas a menor nivel, o de menor aceptación en una obra y que dichos temas resulten compositivamente inalcanzables para muchas bandas, es lo que tienen los grandes entre los grandes. Canciones para una vida - Holland - Shout It Out

 

SHOUT  IT  OUT

Otra banda más británica procedente de los ecos casi inabarcables de la NWOBHM, así pues otro grupo más de la mágica década de los ochenta, una pieza más en definitiva del mapa global original que puso su granito de arena para el concepto general del heavy metal. Estamos en ese concepto con esta banda que va desde un hard 'n heavy a un heavy metal clásico, y estamos una vez más ante una banda que bajo este nombre editó unicamente una obra de estudio en formato LP, (1984), "Early Warning". Después el grupo, que se había formado en 1982, decidiría cambiar de nombre para seguir empujando un par de años más "Hammer", hasta que en 1987 deciden separarse definitivamente. Hoy, de su primera opción, "Holland" dejo en el blog uno de sus temas, en concreto el que abre su único disco con esta denominación "Shout it out" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.
