Bien pudiesen los germanos Blind Guardian, haber esgrimido esa afirmación "I'm Alive" en aquel ya lejano 1995, para erigirse en uno de los adalides del por entonces en horas bajas heavy metal como tal, siendo uno de los defensores del concepto, un tanto powerizado eso sí, en la década de los noventa. Se trata del impresionante y fundamental "Imaginations from the other side" un discazo se mire por donde se mire y del que quiero hoy dejar en el blog otra de sus canciones, la citada "I'm alive", trallazo del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Blind Guardian - Let It Be No More

 

LET  IT  BE  NO  MORE

Sin ningún género de dudas hacía tiempo que un LP de Blind Guardian no me gustaba tanto, un giro decidido hacia el sonido clásico digamos de la banda, hacia los discos de la década de los 90, con una propuesta menos sinfónica o arreglada, y una serie de canciones más rápidas y vocalmente agresivas. Quizá la banda se había obsesionado ultimamente con la creación de atmósferas a base de arreglos, dejando un tanto de lado el origen speedico de sus primeros años, quizá la salida de su material casi de banda sonora, "Twilight Orchestra" de 2019 haya abierto de nuevo la puerta al enfoque primigenio, lo cual a mi personalmente me ha parecido un gran acierto, un disco para disfrutar en su conjunto, compacto, con momentos incluso para los clásico medios tiempos construidos a la antigua usanza, casi un poco a la manera de "Demons and Wizards" como es el caso de "Let it be no more", de la que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

VIOLENT  SHADOWS

Otro adelanto más de la nueva obra de los alemanes Blind Guardian que siguen dando motivos de alegría para sus fans por ese cierto toque al sonido clásico de la banda que se refleja también en este "Violent Shadows" que el grupo presentó en su momento en vivo, en 2020 en el Wacken World Wide, una cuestión para nada dejada al azar, pues además de servirle al grupo para sondear la aceptación del sonido propuesto para la nueva obra, aprovecharon para grabar imágenes que ahora utilizan en el videoclip, del que dejo un enlace a youtube hoy.

BLOOD  OF  THE  ELVES

Después de desvelar tanto la lista de temas que compondrán el album como la portada del mismo, Blind Guardian no deja otro de los adelantos del que será ya su duodécimo LP de estudio "The God Machine" cuya salida oficial se espera para el mes de septiembre. El nuevo tema lleva por nombre "Blood of the elves", que líricamente se basa en la serie de juegos de ordenador "The witcher". En boca de Hansi se trata de una canción que mezcla la parte instruental de lo que hacía la banda en los 90 con la parte vocal de los 2000 en una especie de hibrido. Canciones para una vida - Blind Guardian - Secrets Of The American Gods

 

SECRETS  OF  THE  AMERICAN  GODS

Nuevo adelanto de lo nuevo que los alemanes, aún rodeados por el misterio en lo que a ni siquiera título de la obra se refiere, que saldrá de manera oficial en septiembre. Este nuevo adelanto que formará parte de la obra lleva por título "Secrets of the american gods", una canción que pone de manifiesto las virtudes que han hecho de esta banda lo que es, y que justifican el hecho de ser uno de esos grupos metálicos hacia los que todo metalhead vuelve sus ojos con cada nueva obra editada, o en este caso con cada single, directo, versión o lo que quiera que decidan hacer. Como digo, muchas de las virtudes de la banda se ven reflejadas en esta nueva canción, con esa épica que aquí se refleja en los coros por ejemplo, si bien es cierto que como ocurre con muchas bandas veteranas, existe esa tendencia natural a complicar las composiciones, a darles un toque más progresivo si se quiere, temas más elaborados pero en este caso concreto aún asequible y directo sobre todo en lo que al estribillo se refiere. En definitiva, nuevo aperitivo hasta que llegue el plato principal en unos meses, del que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Finalmente la banda alemana Blind Guardian da señales de vida de material nuevo, (llamemoslo material "normal" o "no especial"), refiriendome al disco orquestal llamado "Twilight Orchestra: Legacy of the dark Lands" que viese la luz el año 2019. Finalmente y ya desde 2015 con su "Beyond the red mirror", 2021 ve un tema extraido del que será su próximo LP de estudio del que aún no ha trascendido el título pero que saldrá para el tramo final de 2022. La banda ha escusado en cierto modo está tardanza en la situación mundial actual que todos conocemos. En lo referente al tema, blind Guardian reconocible en lo compositivo, que más se puede decir, el propio nombre de la banda es ya garantía suficiente, y aunque por lo general se suelen hacer desear entre obra y obra, al final, por lo general, suele merecer la pena, esperemos que este sea el caso en esta ocasión también. BLIND  GUARDIAN  -  A  PAST  AND  FUTURE  SECRET  -  (1995)

 

Sin duda alguna una de las bandas que no necesitan de presentación alguna son Blind Guardian, los alemanes dueños de un estilo propio, que ha ido evolucionando pero al tiempo manteniendo sus características propias, influyentes de cara a otras bandas, imitados aunque inimitables, con ese aire tan reconocible. Dentro de su extensa discografía encontramos momentos verdaderamente especiales por muchas circunstancias y uno de esos puntos destacables en mi opinión fue "Imaginations form the other side" de 1995, importante por lo que el disco en sí mismo, desde una perspectiva compositiva significa, pero además por ser uno de esos discos, una de esas bandas que supieron mantener el tipo a comienzos de los 90, en esa dificil época para lo que venía siendo el heavy metal y en este caso concreto para realizar la transición al power metal tal y como luego lo hemos conocido. Así, la obra "Imaginations from the other side" tiene esa importancia añadida que la debe hacer aún más grande. El disco cuenta con temas innegablemente clásicos dentro de la discografía de la banda, y uno de ellos sirvió para editar un EP especial un par de meses antes de la salida de la obra completa, se trata por supuesto de "The past and future secret", uno de esos temas con mayúsculas, en clave tranquilita, épica como pocas, de las que siguen teneindo la capacidad de emocionarte tantos años después como si fuese la primera vez que las escuchas, algo verdaderamente complicado de conseguir. Uno de esos temas imprescindibles dentro de nuestro sonido. De dicho EP de 1995 quiero hoy dejar en el blog su artwork, una vez más creado por Andreas Marschall, su dibujante de cabecera y uno de los indiscutible grandes dibujantes del heavy metal.

De vuelta al heavy metal hablamos de nuevo de uno de los grandes entre los grandes, los alemanes Blind Guardian, y, además, toca hoy de nuevo hacerlo de la parte inicial de su carrera, en un momento de la banda en que su sonido era mucho más agresivo, acelerado, contundente, menos adornado, menos vendible, y para muchos más auténtico, aunque, como siempre, eso es una cuestión de gustos. Hablo hoy de su segundo LP de nuevo, "Follow the blind", 1989, una época de mayor mérito si se puede decir por lo dificil de mantenerse en el concepto de heavy metal clásico pues pocos mantenían dicho concepto cayendo en otras corrientes más de moda o incipientes. Poco más que añadir, los cimientos de una banda que ha llegado a la cumbre por méritos propios, y de este auténtico discazo dejo hoy en el blog el tema "Don't break the circle", versión de un tema de "Demon" de 1982 que la banda incluyó en 1990 en la edición japonesa de la obra "Follow The Blind", un temazo del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Blind Guardian - Battalions Of Fear

BATTALIONS  OF  FEAR

Blind Guardian se encuentra en estos días dando los primeros detalles del que será un proyecto diferente tras el que llevan unos cuantos años y que parece que finalmente este 2019 será la fecha definitiva de su realización. Este proyecto no es otro que la salida de una obra sinfónica y orquestal titulada "Legacy of the dark lands" verá la luz el primero de noviembre. Es indudable que los pasos musicales distarán de los inicios de la banda, aunque cualquier noticia musical de Blind Guardian se antoja una excusa estupenda para recuperar material de su amplia discografía, y una vez más hoy quiero echar la mirada a los inicios del grupo, en concreto a su debut, "Battalions Of Fear", de 1988, del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog la canción que da nombre a la obra, de la que dejo un enlace a youtube. Canciones para una vida - Blind Guardian - Age Of False Innocence

AGE  OF  FALSE  INNOCENCE

"A night at the opera" es el séptimo álbum de estudio de los alemanes Blind Guardian. Editado en 2002 se trata de una obra de esas que marcan un cierto cambio en el sonido-historia de la banda, desde luego para nada radical, todo en Blind Guardian ha ido siendo progresivo y efecto de la decisión de tomar un camino musical concreto, lo que si es cierto es que desde este disco en adelante el sonido del grupo ha ido haciéndose más y más progresivo si se quiere, más sinfónico dejando atrás los inicios más "speedicos" y tradicionales. Desde luego esta decisión ha ido dejando fans por el camino al tiempo que ha ido sumando otros más nuevos. Después estamos los que nos hemos ido adaptando a los tiempos de la banda para apreciar todo en su justa medida y en su justo momento. Desde luego a mi particularmente me llenaba mucho más la parte inicial-media de la banda teniendo en  mi opinión el punto álgido en su "Imaginations from the other side" de 1995, cuestión de gustos supongo. Sea como sea lo que no puede nadie negar a Blind Guardian es la calidad, la influencia que han generado, generan y generarán y que siempre, siempre habrá un resquicio de cada uno de sus discos que te llegará, como mínimo, aunque la obra en general no te guste. En este "A night at the opera" encontramos ese paso más hacia lo progresivo y conceptual si se quiere a lo que me refería más arriba, un sonido más barroco, recargado y sinfónico que requiere de mayor atención para captar cada matiz, que tiene a raudales por cierto. También encontramos algunos temas más en una onda clásica del grupo, como este "Age of false innocence" del que hoy quiero dejar un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Blind Guardian - Prophecies

PROPHECIES

Posiblemente uno de los temas más clasicos del disco "Beyond the red mirror" en cuanto a un sonido esperado y esperable de la banda sea este "Prophecies", tercer tema ya que destaco en el blog de este último trabajo de la banda alemana Blind Guardian. Como ya he dicho en las anteriores referencias a este album, un poco por temor a encontrarme un sonido demasiado lejano al sonido clásico, un poco por el aumento en cuanto a sonido progresivo y sinfónico de la banda obra tras obra, me ha costado más que de costumbre hacerme con las virtudes sonoras de este "Beyond the red mirror", pero como también he dicho ya, no tenía duda alguna de que en mayor o menor medida terminaría por ir entrándome la obra, y así ha ido siendo. Este "Prophecies" es una de las canciones que más me han gustado de ella, como decía más arriba por ese regusto a los Blind Guardian más clásicos, y de la que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube. Al fin una gran banda es siempre una gran banda y Blind guardian siempre han estado y estarán entre los mejores, en mi opinión.

Canciones para una vida - Blind Guardian - Lost In The Twilight Hall

LOST IN THE TWILIGHT HALL

Blind Guardian se formó en 1984 en Alemania, bajo el nombre de Lucifer's Heritage, con el que funcionaron hasta 1986, en que cambian a Blind Guardian. Los miembros fundadores fueron Hansi Kursch y Andre Olbrich, incorporándose al poco tiempo Thomen Stauch y Marcus Siepen. De ellos solo Thomen Stauch ha dejado la banda en 2005. Algunos otros músicos han pasado por el grupo y grandes colaboraciones como la de Kai Hansen, pero en general Blind Guardian han tenido mucha estabilidad en su formación. Influenciados por la literatura, (sobre todo Tolkien y Stephen King) y el cine, sus letras hacen referencia a esos temas y en ocasiones ayudan a la linea argumental de canciones de la banda o incluso de discos enteros. Tienen ya 10 discos de estudio, a cual mejor, lo que les ha creado un nombre entre los grupos internacionales más respetados dentro de nuestro mundillo. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una canción de su tercera obra de estudio, "tales from the twilight world", de 1990, una obra en plena época de crecimiento internacional y reconocimiento de su obra, con un incremento de la melodía y del sentimiento "Épico" musical, empezando a introducir en mayor medida coros en sus canciones así como una mayor influencia de la música clásica, aunque siempre con esa portentosa base de power metal, progresivamente más alejado del speed metal inicial, que como la banda ha dicho en alguna ocasión, fue una época, (la inicial), en que su influencia por bandas americanas de thrash de la bay area, que solían habitualmente escuchar en sus ratos libres, tales como "Testament" o "Forbidden" hacia que su música fuese más contundente. Volviendo a la obra que nos ocupa, "tales from the twilight world", quiero dejar otra de sus canciones, concretamente "Lost in the twilight hall", una de las muchas que se pueden escoger de este discazo, y una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

NIGHTFALL

Ya me he referido en el blog en muchas ocasiones a esta super banda, e incluso a este disco, pero es que estamos hablando de alguno de los momentos más acertados de los bardos, en una de sus épocas mágicas, y es que este disco es una de las obras con mayúsculas de este grupo y por lo tanto habrá que volver en más de una ocasión a ella. Blind Guardian se formó en 1984 en Alemania, bajo el nombre de Lucifer's Heritage, con el que funcionaron hasta 1986, en que cambian a Blind Guardian. Los miembros fundadores fueron Hansi Kursch y Andre Olbrich, incorporándose al poco tiempo Thomen Stauch y Marcus Siepen. De ellos solo Thomen Stauch ha dejado la banda en 2005. Algunos otros músicos han pasado por el grupo y grandes colaboraciones como la de Kai Hansen, pero en general Blind Guardian han tenido mucha estabilidad en su formación. Influenciados por la literatura, (sobre todo Tolkien y Stephen King) y el cine, sus letras hacen referencia a esos temas y en ocasiones ayudan a la linea argumental de canciones de la banda o incluso de discos enteros. Volveremos hoy a otra obra de de los inicios de la banda en que su influencia más speed metal era evidente aunque con una influencia grande de la banda Helloween ya que ambas estaban en contacto y crecían casi al mismo tiempo, de hecho, Kai Hansen de Helloween colaboraría en el disco "Follow the Blind", segunda obra de estudio del grupo, del año 1989. Este disco fue la confirmación de que esta, por aquellos años joven banda, había venido para quedarse largo tiempo, y la promesa comenzaba a convertirse en realidad con un disco que contiene gran número de clásicos de la banda. Blind Guardian había irrumpido en la escena internacional un año antes con su "Battalions of Fear", con su mezcla de heavy metal, speed metal y thrash, evidentemente los estilos más en auge en la época quitando el hard americano, y con la unión de las tres fuentes alumbraron un sello personal que les ha llevado a ser imitados y reconocidos internacionalmente. Después si que alcanzarían renombre mundial con obras fundamentales como "Imaginatios through the other side", el anterior "Somewhere far beyond" o el posterior "Nightfall in middle earth" que hoy traigo de nuevo al blog y que resulta ser un disco conceptual sobre uno de sus temas más recurrente, "el señor de los anillos" y el mundo Tolkieniano, en un momento en el que los bardos reinaban en la escena power metalera internacional. El disco esta salpicado por intros y pasajes entre auténticos temazos de los que muchos se pueden escoger como impecables muestras de la finura compositiva de este gran grupo, entre otros el tema que hoy quiero dejar en el blog, "Nightfall", todo un temazo del que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Hoy vamos hacia la parte más reciente de su producción musical al hablar de un disco que a mi personalmente me gusta mucho, se trata de su "At the edge of time", noveno larga duración de la banda y penúltimo disco de estudio hasta la fecha de esta reseña, una obra con todos los ingredientes de Blind Guardian, los de su era gloriosa, uno de sus últimas obras que para mi gusto más se acerca al sonido de sus obras míticas de los 90, un poco más alejado del casi speed metal de los 80 y más cercano al sonido sinfónico del siglo XXI, un buen equilibrio conseguido aquí por la banda alemana, un disco del que quiero hoy dejar otro tema, en esta ocasión  "Valkyries", un tema con todos los ingredientes "Blind Guardian" esperables, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Blind Guardian y su "Battalions of fear", su primera obra, de 1988, y menudo debut, pues se trata de un discazo. Ya hemos dicho que  Blind Guardian se formó en 1984 en Alemania, bajo el nombre de Lucifer's Heritage, con el que funcionaron hasta 1986, en que cambian a Blind Guardian. Los miembros fundadores fueron Hansi Kursch y Andre Olbrich, incorporándose al poco tiempo Thomen Stauch y Marcus Siepen. De ellos solo Thomen Stauch ha dejado la banda en 2005. Volviendo al disco que nos ocupa, se trata de los inicios de la banda en que su influencia más speed metal era evidente aunque con una influencia grande de la banda Helloween ya que ambas estaban en contacto y crecían casi al mismo tiempo, de hecho, Kai Hansen de Helloween colaboraría en la siguiente obra de Blind Guardian "Follow the blind" de 1989 tras salir de la banda y antes de crear Gamma Ray. Este "Battalions of fear" tiene temas memorables, algunos de los que ya he hablado en el blog como "Majesty" o "Run for the night", o el temazo del que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube, "guardian of the blind". En definitiva, se trata de otra de las obras a destacar en ese magnífico año de 1988, otro de esos discos que merece la pena comprarse, por calidad musical y por historia del heavy metal.

Su primer trabajo, sin embargo, paso sin pena ni gloria por la escena internacional en el año que salió, pero este segundo disco, "Follow the blind", y su vuelta de tuerca un paso más allá, con la colaboración del por entonces ya mítico Kai Hansen, les hizo comenzar su meteórico ascenso, y es que esta segunda obra es espectacular. Es difícil escoger solo un tema, por eso esta es la segunda ocasión en que acudo a este disco y mucho me temo que tendré que seguir haciéndolo en el futuro. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog otro de sus temas "obligatorios", "Valhalla", trayazo directo al corazón del metalero, con la colaboración de Hansen en funciones vocales quien en esos momentos andaba en plena formación de Gamma Ray tras la salida de Helloween, y que ayudó a que este mítico disco alcanzase aún unas cotas más elevadas, un tema este "Valhalla" del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Quiero hoy hacer referencia a uno de sus mejores discos a mi entender, el Imaginations from the other side, de 1995, con unos Blind Guardian ya en su cenit, y en plena forma, un disco con temas memorables en esta su quinta obra de estudio, de la que pueden destacarse todos y cada uno de los temas, y en más ocasiones recurriremos a esta auténtica joya de los 90, de la banda y del heavy metal en general. Hoy quiero dejar el tema homónimo en el blog al titulo del disco, "Imaginations from the other side", un tema perfecto para engancharte y obligarte a quedarte durante toda la obra enganchado más que nunca al sonido de los bardos, un temazo del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.
