Forefather - Havoc On Holy Island

HAVOC  ON  HOLY  ISLAND 

Casi una década de silencio compositivo se antoja algo demasiado largo para una banda como Forefather, los británicos vikingos que desde 2017 no editan nada y ese último trabajo fue además en formato EP, para encontrar su última publicación en formato larga duración hay que retroceder un par de años más, hasta 2015 con su "Curse of the Cwelled" que hoy quiero recuperar de nuevo. La buena noticia es que se supone que la banda sigue en activo, no hay notocia de que se hayan separado, la parte mala es esa década larga ya de silencio desde su anterior LP. Stratovarius - Giants

GIANTS 

Tiene que ser muy duro llevar a cuestas uno de los grandes nombres en la música, y dentro del power Stratovarius fue espejo para todos durante no pocos años, además de ser punta de lanza de una escena tan importante como la finlandesa. La salida de miembros fundamentales de la banda, sobre todo de Tolkky parecía algo irreparable, un golpe del que el grupo no se levantaría, pero no fue así, y desde su salida en 2008 la banda ha publicado otros cinco LP's de estudio, si bien la periodicidad a la hora de hacerlo se va alargando progresivamente. En 2015 el grupo publicaba su décimo quinto album de estudio, "Etrenal" del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog otra de sus canciones, "Giants" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Claymorean - Silent Guardians

SILENT  GUARDIANS 

La tercera  obra de estudio de los serbios Claymorean, (la primera tras cambiar su nombre de Claymore a Claymorean), lleva por título "Unbroken" y fue publicada en 2015. Estamos ante una banda que ha tenido bastantes cambios en su formación, y así, tan solo su motor compositivo Vladimir Garčevic que es ademas guitarrista y una de las voces de la banda, permanece desde el inicio en el grupo. Con un cierto cambio de planteamiento desde el concepto épico del inicio, (épico a la italiana o griega si se quiere), a un concepto power más doom posteriormente. Seis LP's de estudio se antojan un tanto escasos para una larga ya trayectoria (desde 1994) pero sus varios parones les han lastrado en ese y otros sentidos. DECADENT 

La carrera en solitario de Udo Dirkschneider es una demostración de fidelidad a un sonido, de que había para él vida musical después de su salida de Accept, algo que al principio muchos dudaron tras su primer periodo volando solo, no por la calidad indudable de sus trabajos iniciales entre 1987 y 1991 (nada menos que cuatro magnificos LP's) sino más bien por su segunda (y breve) etapa en Accept tras la que sin más dudas continuó su camino en solitario brillando durante largo tiempo más que su banda madre Accept. En 2015 el grupo editaba su décimo quinto LP de estudio, "Decadent", del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog su tema homónimo del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Enthring - We Thrive On Chaos

WE  THRIVE  ON  CHAOS 

Los finlandeses han sido uno de los grandes creadores de death melódico desde la explosión de este sonido, si bien los orígenes del mismo y un grueso importante de bandas provengan de sus vecinos suecos, sin embargo muchos grupos de gran nivel en ese subgénero tienen nacionalidad finlandesa. Una de esas bandas, aunque no se haya prodigado excesivamente, es Enthring, formados en 2006 y que solo han publicado un LP además de tres EP's. Death melódico nórdico, del que dejo hoy en el blog una de las canciones de su segundo EP "The art of chaos", de 2015, concretamente "We thrive on chaos" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Antioch - Iron Serpent

IRON  SERPENT 

Los canadienses Antioch son otro de esos grupos que se han apuntado a la nueva ola del heavy metal a nivel internacional, ese heavy metal de clarísimo regusto clásico, de la vieja escuela, pero hecho en este siglo, de configuración compositiva que bien podría caber en 1984 pero que tecnicamente se aprovecha de las virtudes tecnológicas de los tiempos que corren a nivel de producción. Antioch es una de esas primeras bandas que se apuntaron a esta nueva (vieja) corriente. Formados en 2013, a fecha de esta reseña tienen publicados cinco LP's de estudio (más tres EP's). El primero de sus LP's data de 2015 "Antioch II First Stryke", y de él dejo hoy en el blog su canción "Iron serpent" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Triddana - Death Blow

DEATH  BLOW 

El segundo LP de estudio de los argentinos Triddana llevó por título "The power and the will", publicado en 2015, y estaba destinado a consolidar a la banda tras su debut de 2012, que les ponía frente a un público que lleno de expectativas esperaba ver que sonido haría esa gran parte de la banda Skiltron que había salido de la misma y se había embarcado en esa nueva aventura. Como era de esperar el sonido bastante clónico de Triddana respecto a Skiltron parecía que era la senda escogida por los músicos, y en el segundo LP, que hoy os ocupa, se añadía la expectación por la salida del cantante del debut haciéndose cargo de dichas funciones el guitarrista Juan Jose Fornés, dueño de gran parte de las composiciones de la banda. El disco, "The power and the will" cuple perfectamente con las expectativas creadas, asentando a la banda en su estilo que no ha abandonado en su periplo hasta la fecha. Canciones para una vida - Iron Kingdom - A Call To Arms

 

A  CALL  TO  ARMS

Vamos con una banda canadiense que ya lleva unos cuantos años en activo, Iron Kingdom, quienes desde 2011, (antes desde 2004 bajo el nombre de Twisted) llevan proponiendo su sonido claramente de sabor clasico, en una onda de heavy metal, de regusto americano, aunque se pueda encontrar alguna mención compositiva maideniana incluso. Desde ese 2011 en que la banda se reconvierte en Iron Kingdom, cinco LP's de estudio conforman su dicografía a fecha de esta reseña, (2011, 2013, 2015, 2019 y 2022). Hoy quiero irme hasta su tercer LP, "Ride for glory" de 2015, para recuperar uno de sus temas, en este caso el instrumental "maideniano" "A call To Arms" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Tanagra - Tyranny Of Time

TYRANNY  OF  TIME

Sigamos conel estilo power con aire progresivo, de la escuela estadounidense, encarnado en la banda Tanagra, un grupo que comenzó su andadura en 2010 pero que también lleva en silencio desde 2019, quizá otro caso en que la pandemia les cortó sus aspiraciones. Su primer trabajo, de los dos que han editado en formato LP a fecha de esta reseña, data de 2015, "None of this is real" al que seguiría en 2019 "Meridiem". Como digo su sonido es una mezcla de estilos, con predominancia del power ciertamente de la escuela americana, aunque con un toque progresivo, aunque algunos momentos de coros lo alejen de ese estilo. Realmente no estamos ante nada nuevo, pero si resulta como mínimo entretenido el sonido de la banda como ocurre por ejemplo en el tema de su debut que hoy dejo en el blog, "Tyranny Of Time", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Divine Weep - Fading Glow

FADING  GLOW

Divine Weep es un grupo polaco cuyo sonido comenzo apuntando hacia un black metal melódico para progresivamente ir tornando su mirada hacia un power metal de corte europeo, un poco en una onda primal fear si se quiere. Formados en 1995 no editan material hasta casi dos décadas después, (2013) con su EP "Age of the immortal", luego solo dos LP's completan su discografía "Tears of the ages" de 2015 y "The omega man" de 2020. De su primer LP mencionado quiero dejar en el blog el tema que lo abre, "Fading Glow", buen termómetro para hacerse una idea del potencial de la banda, tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Vindictiv - The Prophecy

THE  PROPHECY

Vindictiv fue una interesante banda sueca de power metal con un componente progresivo que en la actualidad parece no seguir en activo, no dan muestras de actividad desde 2015 y a pesar de que oficialmente no han dado el proyecto por zanjado si que parece que por ahí puedan ir los tiros. Durante su periodo de actividad que abarca desde 2004 al citado 2015, editaron un total de cuatro LP's de estudio, el último de ellos de 2015, "World of fear" y del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de sus canciones, "The prophecy" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Ulf Lagestam - Battle Of Gaia

 

BATTLE  OF  GAIA

Ulf Lagestam es un guitarrista sueco que ha desarrollado una carrera en solitario bajo su propio nombre tras un pasado en la música que ha pasado bastante desapercibido. El primer registro del que tengo constancia fue formando parte de la banda sueca "Scamps" que fue uno de esos grupos ochenteros de haevy metal que apenas llego a asomar en la escena ni siquiera sueca, una banda formada en 1983 y que editó solo un single con dos temas en 1984 para no dejar mayor rastro aparte de ese, ni tan siquiera el de su separación definitiva. La verdad es que no se cual ha sido la trayectoria de este guitarrista hasta que en 2012comenzó a editar material de estudio propio en forma del EP "Awareness", a que seguiría su primer LP "Alien Distortion" en 2015. De momento otro par de LP's han dado forma a su discografía tan desconocida como interesante, Randomized en 2019 y Revelation en 2020. A pesar de ser un guitarrista consumado y gustar en cierto modo del lucimiento personal un tanto shred, sus discos no son puramente instrumentales aunque siempre incluye algunas piezas así. En lo sonoro estamos ante un estilo hard melódico, con un baño moderno y experimental y un cierto toque neoclásico, buena producción y variación compositiva que ayuda a su escucha huyendo de la monotonía. De su primer LP "Alien Distortion" de 2015 quiero hoy dejar en el blog uno de sus temas instrumentales, en concreto "Battle of Gaia" que es un buen ejemplo de su sonido, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Amorphis - Winter's Sleep

 

WINTER'S  SLEEP

Menuda pedazo de obra, (una vez más) nos dejaron los finlandeses Amorphis en 2015 bajo el nombre de "Under the red cloud", particularmente antológica en una discografía llena de aciertos y en una imparable linea ascendente en todos los sentidos dentro de una carrera ya larga, (desde 2019), que en este 2021 promete darnos un capitulo más ya que la banda ya ha entrado hace tiempo al estudio para dar su siguiente paso. Si no lo editan este año lo harán a comienzos del siguiente, contodas las mencionadas garantías de calidad, uno de esos grupos que son un seguro de vida. Volviendo al ya mencionado en varias ocasiones en el blog "under the red cloud" de 2015, otra de sus muestras de poderío como obra es la calidad de sus bonus, como el que hoy dejo en el blog, un tema que muchos quisieran como single central de una obra, "Winter's sleep", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.Amorphis, sinónimo siempre de calidad, que más se puede pedir.

Canciones para una vida - Forefather - The River Maid's Farewell

THE  RIVER  MAID'S  FAREWELL

Como me gusta esta banda, un grupo demasiado poco reconocido en su ya extensa carrera y que lleva demasiado tiempo ya sin editar un nuevo LP, desde 2015 concretamente en que sacaron este "Curse of the cwelled" del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog otro de sus temas. Realmente si que han editado más material desde entonces, en forma de un EP "Tales from a cloud born land" del que ya he hablado en el blog. Sea como sea va siendo hora de que nos regalen un disco nuevo, algo que muchos celebraríamos sin duda. A modo de demostración una vez más de los que son capaces estos británicos en lo referente a su capacidad melódica compositiva quiero dejar en el blog el tema instrumental "The River Maid's Farewell", en otro de los rasgos típicos que les caracterizan, el de la vertiente instrumental, perteneciente como decía más arriba al último LP editado hasta la fecha de esta reseña, "Curse of the cwelled" de 2015, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - W.A.S.P. - Slaves Of The New World Order

SLAVES  OF  THE  NEW  WORLD  ORDER

Enorme la obra que la banda W.A.S.P. se sacó de la manga en 2015, disco que haría el décimo quinto de su carrera musical y que hoy en día, centrado el grupo tan solo en lo musical, nada que ver con la parafernalia del inicio de su carrera, nos muestra a unos músicos con un montón de cosas que mostrar, y con una calidad indiscutible, que siempre ha estado presente, pero que ahora queda más patente aún sin nada que distraiga la atención aparte de lo estrictamente sonoro. Disco completo, lleno de momentos que descubrir, una obra más que recomendable y de la que hoy quiero dejar en el blog otra de sus canciones, hoy, en concreto, otro de los momentos clave del álbum, en mi humilde opinión, "Slaves of the new world order", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Gloryhammer - Questlords Of Inverness

QUESTLORDS  OF  INVERNESS

 Otro de los temas del segundo LP editado por la banda paralela a Alestorm, llamada Gloryhammer, del compositor y teclista Christopher Bowes es este "Questlords of Inverness, ride to the galactic fortress", una canción que sigue esa propuesta que en su momento desarrollase tan bien Rhapsody y Luca Turilli en su material en solitario, ese metal sinfónico, desde luego plagado de arreglos para una base power mucho más pomposa y brillante, envuleta en un sonido lleno de detalles y de producción impecable, que igualmente choca de forma directa con el concepto clásico de los amantes del heavy de toda la vida, del metal head amante del sonido old school. Y es que nos encontramos con tantos arreglos que los defensores del voz, guitarra bajo y batería ven una especie de traición a los autenticos orígenes del sonido. Sin embargo, los amantes del sonido power noventero y de cambio de siglo ven en este nicho sonoro una culminación en que todo adorno épico ayuda a una atmósfera general llena de fuerza. Sea como sea es cuestión de gustos, pero una vez más de lo que no hay duda es de la calidad de los músicos aquí implicados. Tras la ya evidente zozobra de la escisión total de Rhapsody, y la falta absoluta de timón en el trabajo de Turilli, parece que Gloryhammer apuesta fiuerte por abanderar ese tipo de sonido confirmando en su segundo esfuerzo musical la propuesta que ya hicieran en el primero. Canciones para una vida - Angra - Newborn Me

NEWBORN  ME

El octavo disco de estudio de los brasileños Angra se titula "Secret Garden", de 2015, un disco que resulta ser un capitulo más en la historia del grupo, un paso más en la aparentemente interminable tarea de encontrar una estabilidad formativa que no han tenido desde la salida del grupo de André Matos y con el parte importante de la sección rítmica del grupo que terminarían formando la banda Shaman. Es evidente que sustituir una voz tan personal como la de Matos es más que complicado, y no debe pensarse solo a la hora de grabar el material, más importante aún es afrontar los trabajos en vivo y al final en Angra parece haber siempre esa necesidad de rememorar la era Matos con las garantías necesarias. El heredero en el puesto vocal, Falasci, aguantó el tirón durante una década y cuatro LP's, pero finalmente abandonó la banda en 2014. Sería un cantante reputado, serio y con poco ya que demostrar como Fabio Lione el escogido para completar la gira en directo en la que andaba Angra embarcada, y tras la demostrada efectividad del italiano en directo, sería contratado para seguir la senda vocal con los brasileños. Este "Secret Garden" es el primer LP pues con Lione a los mandos vocales de Angra. Nos encontramos ante un disco más de canciones sueltas que de disco completo, una obra que puede llegar a sonar demasiado homogénea si se quiere, pero con los innegables destellos que un grupo de esta categoría siempre deja, bien reforzado con la voz de Lione. Buen ejemplo de ello es el tema que hoy dejo en el blog, "Newborn me", primer single del disco y del que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - W.A.S.P. - Miss You

MISS  YOU

Golgotha es el décimo quinto disco de estudio de la banda estadounidense W.A.S.P., un grupo para el que no hacen falta presentaciones pues su larga carrera de más de 35 años habla por si misma. Siempre controvertidos su fama un tanto oscura en lo estético nunca estuvo acompañada por lo musical realmente con un heavy metal con destellos hard heavy en ocasiones alejándoles de la escena black o incluso satánica que todo aquel que mirase a la banda desde fuera pudiese sospechar. Desde los inicios del grupo ha habido una evolución musical y temática, y curiosamente en este último apartado lírico se ha pasado de hablar de temas anti religiosos en general a ser un poco pro cristianos, las vueltas que da esto de la música. El grupo sigue en plena forma productiva editando discos en la década presente, reedición incluida de su Crimson Idol del 92 bajo el título "Reidolized: the soundtrack to the crimson idol" editado el pasado febrero y donde además incluyen temas de otras obras, por ejemplo "Miss you" de la que quiero dejar hoy un enlace a youtube. Se trata de un tema originalmente compuesto para el disco "Golgotha" de 2015, décimo quinto disco de estudio como decía al inicio y que explota otra de las virtudes del grupo como siempre han sido las baladas - medios tiempos, composiciones de las que "Miss you" es un ejemplo claramente vigente a lo que ha sido toda su carrera, y que derrocha buen hacer en mi humilde opinión, un tema de casi 8 minutos que va poco a poco desarrollándose con sentimiento y fuerza, y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Battle Beast - Lionheart

LIONHEART

Un nuevo repaso a la discografía de los finlandeses Battle Beast me lleva de nuevo a su tercer Lp de estudio, "Unholy savior", de 2015, la última obra en la que participase el guitarrista y compositor Anton Kabanen antes de su salida del grupo por motivos conocidos y ya mencionados en otras entradas del esta banda. No repetiré lo dicho en otras ocasiones, tan solo dejar hoy en el blog otro tema de este disco, concretamente la canción que abre la obra "Lionheart", con todos los ingredientes propios de Battle Beast en el ya denominado "Pop metal" que practican, con ese aire de heavy metal de toda la vida, una utilización de los teclados en una linea un tanto ochentera, una base power, una producción limpia y unos coros acompañados de melodías que se quedan a la primera. Otro buen ejemplo, este "Lionheart" del que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Manegarm - Tagen Av Daga

TAGEN  AV  DAGA

"Manegarm" es el octavo disco de estudio de la banda sueca del mismo nombre, un grupo que siempre ha llevado por bandera su folk black metal de temática claramente nórdica, un grupo que siempre ha obtenido un reconocimiento de calidad en lo que a sus fieles seguidores se refiere, algo que tras la edición de su anterior obra "Legions of the north" de 2013 y en este citado "Manegarm" de 2015, ha dejado un poco esa unanimidad en lo que a su concepto musical se refiere ya que parte de sus fans de siempre ven en la banda un giro compositivo a peor, más si se quiere hacia un concepto más vendible, más comercial, menos contundente. Una de las características de siempre de la banda ha sido la gran cantidad de riffs  que adornaban sus temas, y muchos ven un descenso en "riffs por minuto" por ejemplo. Sea como sea, siempre debemos defender la calidad de bandas como esta, a pesar de que pueda gustar más o menos la evolución de un grupo, lo más importante es que la calidad no se pierda, algo que aquí se mantiene intacta, y es que aunque sea un disco de Manegarm al 70% de lo que venían ofreciendo en algunos aspectos en sus discos iniciales, si que merece la pena darse una vuelta por este disco de 2015 del que hoy quiero dejar otro de sus temas, en concreto hoy "Tagen av daga" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.
