LOVEHUNTER

Para finales de los setenta, tras su paso por Deep Purple entre 1973 y 1976, David Coverdale, fundador de Whitesnake en 1978, decide buscar su propia banda, más influenciada por el hard rock e incluso en ocasiones el blues, un grupo que reunió a grandes nombres como Micky Moody y Bernie Marsden a la guitarra, Neil Murray al bajo, Peter Solley a los teclados que en seguida sería sustituido por Jon Lord, (también ex de los Purple), o Dave Dowle a la batería que pronto sería sustituido por Ian Paice, sea como sea el baile de nombres es lo suficientemente importante como para que no debiera sorprenderse nadie de las cotas de éxito que alcanzaría la banda. Como decía, en 1979 la banda graba su segundo LP de estudio, "Lovehunter", que sería el disco que daría a la banda un escalon ya importante de reconocimiento a través del éxito en las listas de ventas británicas, alcanzando en ellas por vez primera el top 30. Nacía una banda de las reconocidas y reconocibles y de ese segundo disco dejo hoy en el blog el tema que le dió nombre, "Lovehunter" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

CHILDREN  OF  THE  NIGHT

Nunca antes, ni tampoco después, los ultra premiados, archi promocionados y fenomenales, que no está reñido, Whitesnake, sonaron más heavys que en su séptimo LP de estudio "1987", de ese mismo año. Hemos de partir de donde provienen musicalmente para matizar este comentario, con esas raices hard, blues, que en los inicios de la banda aun setenteros eran bien patentes, Muy temprano estos británicos que sonoramente hablando situaría cualquiera en el mapa estado unidense, lograron el favor del gran público, y con idas y venidas de nombres importantes en sus filas, y apoyados en la reconocible y magnífica voz de Coverdale como constante universal para la banda, flirtearon con lo que iba tocando en cada monento, y en 1987, tocaba ese hard 'n heavy, que aquí clavaron en un LP antológico, aunque debo matizar que para mí es uno de esos discos especiales en la banda sonora de mi vida, y quizá eso me haga menos objetivo, como suele pasar en estos casos, sin embargo, creo que tomado como LP en si mismo, me parece extraordinario. Canciones para una vida - Whitesnake - Heart Of Stone

HEART  OF  STONE

Whitesnake vuelve a sacar disco en la que puede considerarse como tercera época activa del grupo a lo largo de su ya gran trayectoria que abarca 5 décadas diferentes. Se trata de "Flesh and blood" , su décimo cuarto LP. Si algo ha caracterizado a este grupo ha sido la inestabilidad en la formación, con la figura de Coverdale como único nexo común a todas las épocas y todas las obras, y un desfile de nombres de músicos de primerísimo nivel a lo largo de la historia de la banda. Con un cambio también de estilo en los diferentes momentos de su vida, Whitesnake ha ido pasando del blues rock al hard rock, incluso rozando el hard heavy para volver atrás y adelante en dichas fórmulas compositivas, alcanzando en el punto citado más cercano al hard heavy su momento más exitoso, y en cierto modo es ese espíritu del álbum "1987" el que se está rememorando en los últimos discos de estudio de la banda, incluido este "Flesh and blood" de 2019 de la que hoy quiero dejar en el blog  una de sus canciones, concretamente "Heart of stone", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

JUDGEMENT DAY

Hablar de Whitesnake es hablar de grandes músicos dentro de nuestra música, pero también es hablar de dos estilos diferenciados dentro de la propia banda. Whitesnake se forma en 1978 cuando el vocalista británico David Coverdale se separa de Deep Purple, mítica banda en la que militó entre los años 1973 y 1976. Comienza su proyecto musical con whitesnake con un sonido encaminado al hard rock aunque con gran influencia del blues, que marcaría sus inicios en los primeros discos. En total ha editado 11 discos de estudio, atravesando por varias épocas y afrontando un par de disoluciones de la banda. En realidad la inestabilidad en la formación ha sido grande desde sus inicios, siendo David Coverdale el único miembro constante en todo momento, pero la lista de músicos que ha pasado por este grupo no solo es grande sino también de calidad, y así nombres como Steve Vai, Adrian Vandenberg, Doug Aldritch, Rudy Sarzo, Vivian Campbell, Don Airey o John Sykes hablan de la leyenda de esta banda. A partir de 1986 el sonido de Whitesnake se vuelve más hardrockero en el sentido americano, y en 1987 sacan su obra maestra, en mi humilde opinión, la que seriá su séptima obra de estudio, con el nombre de "1987" en Europa, "Whitesnake" en Estados Unidos, y con la que conocieron el éxito internacional. Hoy quiero referirme al otro disco de Whitesnake que personalmente me encanta, "Slip of the tongue" de 1989. Es evidente que todo amante de Whitesnake se va a fijar en sus inicios, en ese sonido heredero de "Deep Purple", con ese aire tan "bluesero" que suele tener Coverdale, pero el sonido que a mi me gusta de Whitesnake es el que los puristas del estilo posiblemente repudien en la banda, el de los discos "1987 y Slip of th tongue", un sonido mucho más americano de los 80, con unos riffs más contundentes y también más comercial, la verdad, pero es lo que hay. Se trata este "Slip of the tongue" de un digno heredero del "1987", aunque sin tanto filo ni esos "megahits" de su anterior obra. Aun así el disco fue certificado Platino en Estados Unidos (lo que supone más de un millón de copias vendidas), y alcanzó el top 10 en ventas tanto en Estados Unidos como en Inglaterra. La banda se separaría poco después de la salida de esta obra para juntarse en 1997 y realizar la obra "Restless Heart", un disco que poco o nada tiene que ver con "1987 y Slip of th tongue", ni con el material previo, lo que les llevo a una nueva separación hasta 2002 en que se "Reformaron" y sacaron tres discos más, en 2008, 2011 y este mismo año 2015. Volviendo al disco "Slip of the tongue", muchos son los temas a destacar, pero hoy quiero dejar en el blog una canción que me gusta mucho, "Judgement day", un medio tiempo  del que dejo un enlace a youtube.
