Vamos con una obra clásica de una banda de las también clásicas dentro del power, se trata de los finlandeses Stratovarius y su "Episode", a mi parecer uno de sus mejores discos que sin duda alguna forman parte de la banda sonora de mi vida. Corría el año 1996, el heavy metal se había diversificado y como tal casi extinguido en su vertiente más clásica, y esos primeros años de los 90 sobre todo el power metal vino a llenar ese hueco compositivo en muchos metalheads, para ese año 1996, Stratovarius ya se había hecho con un nombre que con esta obra terminaría de encumbrar para hacerse una de las cabezas visibles del por entonces aún incipiente euro power caracterizado por esa cuidada producción y todos los demás atributos que nunca ha dejado de tener. De esta obra puede destacarse casi todo, y hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus singles más icónicos, "Will the sun rise", temazo del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Symphony X - Sea Of Lies - Canciones Para Una Vida

 

SEA  OF  LIES

Los estadounidenses Symphony X son otra de esas grandes bandas dentro del nicho sonoro del power pogresivo, una banda que ha alcanzado un estatus elevado por méritos propios que se plasman a lo largo de su discografía. El grupo se forma en 1994 que es el mismo de su debut en formato LP, desde entonces un total de nueve LP's forman su discografía, y a pesar de que oficialmente siguen en activo llevan toda una década sin sacar un disco nuevo. Hoy quiero echar un vistazo hacia la parte inicial de su carrera para dejar en el blog una canción de su tercer LP de estudio, "The Divine wings of tragedy", de 1996, concretamente "Sea of lies" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Helloween - Wake Up The Mountain - Canciones Para Una Vida

WAKE  UP  THE  MOUNTAIN

Repasemos por enésima vez la extensa e importante carrera de los germanos Helloween, otro de esos pilares fundamentales para entender el todo en su conjunto, sobre todo en este caso el power metal. Hoy de nuevo quiero centrarme en la era Deris, en lo que al apartado vocal se refiere, con la segunda obra de estudio de la banda con Andi a la voz. Se trató de "The time of the oath", de 1996, que debía consolidar a la nueva alineación de Helloween y su enfoque compositivo, y vaya si lo hizo, la crítica siempre acogió bien la obra, y es que está llena de grandes temas, por ejemplo "Wake up the mountain" de la que quiero dejar hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube.

GODS  OF  THUNDER  OF  WIND  AND  OF  RAIN

Si algo ha significado Bathory para la música ha sido su condición de banda pionera, uno de esos grupos que han abierto camino siendo espejo para muchos otros y siendo un instrumento para ensanchar el horizonte de su nicho sonoro, hablamos por supuesto del concepto vikingo en su amplio sentido musical. Comenzando su camino a comienzos de los ochenta, poca duda puede despertar la afirmación de su título de pionero en lo suyo, y doce LP's han conformado su discografía hasta el prematuro fallecimiento de Quorton en 2004. Canciones para una vida - Heavens Gate - Terminated World

TERMINATED  WORLD

Hagamos hoy un ejercicio de justicia recuperando una vez más a una de las bandas en que más diferencia hay o hubo entre su estatus real y el que deberían haber alcanzado a nivel global, los alemanes Heavens Gate, heavy metal clásico, del que aguantó el tirón en la parte final de los ochenta y la primera mitad de los noventa, uno de los pocos que se mantuvieron firmes para evitar la muerte del sonido clásico en esos años de diversificación. Y quiero rescatar uno de los albumes del grupo que no son los más recurrentes o famosos, el cuarto de su discografía "Planet E", de 1996, para el que el grupo introduce algunos pequeños cambios compositivos, como echando el resto para asaltar la cima, con rasgos progresivos o un cierto cambio en la producción, el grupo en definitiva se sacó de la manga un señor discazo que definitivamente tampoco les sirvió para cambiar su fortuna de cara al gran público en general, otra cosa es el reconocimiento que a posteriori va cosechando este señor grupazo. Canciones para una vida - In Flames - Moonshield

 

MOONSHIELD

In Flames es una de esas bandas que ha sido pionera en lo suyo, un grupo que decidió emprender un camino compositivo que después de crear escuela fue seguido por muchos otros creandose así un nuevo subgénero llamado death melódico, si juntamos a In Flames con otro par de bandas como Dark Tranquility y At The Gates, todos suecos y todos de la misma localidad (Gotthenburg) vemos claramente que al death melódico se le puede atribuir un origen sueco, llamandosele también sonido Gotthemburgo. Formados en 1990 la banda ha editado a fecha de esta reseña, 14 LP's de estudio y como digo es considerado como un referencia dentro del subgénero. Echando la vista atrás a los comienzos de su carrera quiero dejar en el blog hoy una de las canciones de su segundo trabajo de estudio "The Jester Race" de 1996, disco respaldado por crítica y fans y del que dejo la canción "Moonshield" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Impellitteri - You Are The Fire

 

YOU  ARE  THE  FIRE

Volviendo a los clásicos, a esos músicos de siempre que tanto han dado al heavy metal, quiero recuperar de nuevo el sonido del guitarrista estadounidense, uno de los máximos exponentes del subgénero shred, que siempre supo además de darle el toque justo de virtuosismo sin excederse, rodearse de grandes músicos lo que le hizo tener esa sensación de banda con todas las de la ley. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de las canciones de su cuarto LP de estudio, "Screaming Symphony", de 1996, con el fenomeno vocal Rob Rock acompañando, con su temática cristiana como siempre, es uno de los grandes exponentes del llamado metal cristiano, y el tema para hoy será "You are the fire" un portentos, y poderoso tema que sirve perfectamente entre otras cosas para demostrar la capacidad total y absoluta vocal del bueno de Rob Rock, una canción de esas que te llenan de energía y de la que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Scorpions - Wild Child

 

WILD  CHILD

19 discos de estudio son los culpables de la leyenda de una de esas bandas con mayúsculas en la escena del heavy metal, los alemanes "Scorpions". Desde luego no todas las épocas de la banda han sido iguales, y como en tantas otras ocasiones la banda ha tenido sus mejores momentos en la década de los ochenta, aunque su actividad a lo largo de cinco décadas, (por el momento) tendrá un público para cada momento. Igualmente, el éxito que acompaña la carrera de la banda a nivel ventas, ha hecho que muchos critiquen sistematicamente las obras de la banda argumentando su sonido comercial como excusa, pues nadie puede negarles la calidad. Hoy quiero dejar otro de las obras de la banda, y quiero recurrir a su décimo tercer album de estudio, "Pure Instinct" de 1996, en un momento de esos raros de cambio de sonido general en la escena, y en el que no muchas bandas permanecían fieles a los rasgos clasicos del sonido, o de su propio sonido, cosa que Scorpions si que hizo, como siempre ha hecho. Se trata este "Pure Instinct" de un album muy en la línea melódica, más cercano a un sonido hard rock si se quiere pero con la firma Scorpions, un disco del que hoy quiero dejar el team que abre el disco, "Wild child", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Court Jester - Intro & Serpents

 

INTRO  &  SERPENTS

Vuelta a la década de los noventa, un momento histórico en esto del heavy metal en que ese sonido como tal, el heavy clásico, no vivia precisamente sus mejores momentos, época esta de los noventa en que prácticamente solo algunas bandas clásicas seguían practicando ese sonido primigenio diversificandose el sonido hacia vertientes mejor "vestidas" y más vendibles como el mismo power que explotaba en esos años, Es por esto que resulta dificil encontrarse con bandas que nacieran en esa década y decidiesen optar por el sonido clásico del heavy, como ocurrió con esto alemanes, "Court Jester". Formados en 1991 y solo siete años después, 1998 se separaban, editando solo un LP y un EP en ese periodo de actividad. Sin llegar a tener apoyo discográfico autoeditaron su LP "Forced II believe" de 1996, que finalmente sería su primer y último LP de estudio. Realmente interesante este material, como digo sobre todo si gustas del heavy metal clásico. Canciones para una vida - Seventh Avenue - Prolog & Tales Of Tales

 

PROLOG  &  TALES  OF  TALES

Completamente hija de su época, mirar los comienzos de la banda alemana "Seventh Avenue" es mirar hacia los inicios del propio subgénero del power metal de corte europeo, hablamos de mediados de la década de los noventa. Siempre me ha parecido que esta banda ha tenido más importancia de lo que las ventas o el reconocimiento general ha dicho, e igualmente su estilo ha tenido ese sello propio, en ocasiones incluso flirteando con ese puntillo progresivo, con grandes obras en su conjunto y que sin duda pusieron su granito de arena a construir esta parte del heavy metal. Formados en 1989 alargaron su actividad hasta 2012, editando en esos años un total de seis LP's de estudio más un EP. Es por lo tanto este grupo, uno de esos a los que tener en cuenta a la hora de hablar de la historia del subgénero power en su vertiente europea. De su discografía quiero hoy dejar en el blog una de las canciones de su segundo LP de estudio, "Tales of tales", de 1996, en concreto la que da nombre a la obra, una de las más conocidas del grupo donde muestran su enorme capacidad, y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Angra - Crossing & Nothing To Say

 

CROSSING  &  NOTHING  TO  SAY 

Hablar de Angra es ligar dicho nombre a varias figuras musicales, inevitablemente Andre Matos, (que recientemente falleció, en 2019), y Rafael Bittencourt, motor compositivo que es el único de los miembros originales que ha estado presente en cada una de las fases de la banda. Hablar de Angra es hablar de power metal pero también de ese aire progresivo que en discos como el que hoy traigo al blog, "Holy land" de 1996 se hace particularmente presente. Se trata del segundo LP de la banda, tras el impresionante debut, ("Angels Cry" de 1993), que les puso de un plumazo en el mapa internacional. Como este segundo LP tiene un aire más progresivo que el debut, un poco menos directo pero igualmente lleno de una calidad que la banda, por otra parte, nunca ha dejado de demostrar. Hoy quiero dejar de esta obra el tema que abre la misma, "Nothing to say", con un Matos sobresaliente, como siempre, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Iced Earth - I Died For You

I  DIED  FOR  YOU

Nos encontramos en la década de los 90, un tiempo en el que la música iba cambiando, los estilos mutaban y en ocasiones casi desaparecían con solo un puñado de bandas que permanecían fieles a las viejas ideas. Desde luego, en muchos sentidos, el sonido metálico estaba en plena evolución y desde una perspectiva clásica eran tiempos duros. Sin embargo, también hubo grupos que crecieron en esos años, evolucionando su sonido para seguir hacia nuevos horizontes, Uno de esos grupos fue Iced Earth, quienes en 1996 editaban este su cuarto disco de estudio "The Dark Saga", con un cierto cambio compositivo algo más melódico si se quiere. Ya a estas alturas la banda gozaba de buen reconocimiento, que seguiría yendo a más por méritos propios. Hoy quiero dejar otra de las canciones de la banda perteneciente a este "The Dark Saga", una de sus "power ballads o medios tiempos" marca de la casa, "I Died For You", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Axel Rudi Pell - Fool Fool

FOOL  FOOL

La aventura musical de Axel Rudi Pell comienza con la banda Steeler, allá por el año 1981. De hecho, Steeler comienza como "Sinner" en 1981, y  no será hasta 1983 en que adopten esa denominación de "Steeler"con la que funcionarán hasta el fin de la banda allá por 1988 con su "Undercover animal", (del que hablaremos en este blog algún día), disco tras el que la banda cesa su actividad comenzando Axel Rudi Pell su carrera en solitario ya en 1989 con su primer disco bajo el nombre Axel Rudi Pell titulado "Wild Obsession". Desde entonces 17 discos de estudio nos hablan de un prolífico músico que viene a sacar un disco de estudio cada 2 años de media más o menos, sin contar sus recopilaciones de baladas que ya van por su cuarta entrega. Su buen hacer musical le ha llevado a vender más de 1,5 millones de discos en todo el mundo. Hoy quiero hablar de su quinta obra de estudio, la tercera con Jeff Scott Soto a la voz, y penúltimo antes de ser sustituido por el gran Johnny Gioeli, que ha seguido hasta la actualidad. Es su disco "Black moon pyramid" de 1996. Es un disco muy en la onda Axel Rudi Pell, como todos realmente, ya que, como he dicho en alguna ocasión, siempre que escucho un disco de Axel Rudi Pell sé lo que voy a encontrar, y eso, a pesar de que a muchos les suene a que no evoluciona también se puede ver como su seña de identidad y para mi gusto no es nada malo pues su concepto musical es bueno y no veo porque tiene que cambiarlo. Una garantía de calidad en composición y sonido. Del disco que nos ocupa podemos destacar muchas canciones importantes dentro de la discografía del genial guitarrista alemán, así temas como"Touch the rainbow", "You and I", o la balada "Silent angel" entre otras hacen que este disco sea muy facil de escuchar. Canciones para una vida - Manowar - King

KING

Una obra más de los "true metaleros" originales Manowar, de los que es casi inevitable referirse a todas y cada una de sus obras, uno de los paradigmas del heavy metal, con todos sus clichés incluidos, dicho sea para bien. Nos encontramos hoy con este "Louder than hell", de 1996, su ya octava obra de estudio que una vez más dio en el clavo en su concepción metálica. Nos encontramos en una época musical de este grupo en que provenían de su gran "The triumph of steel", de 1992, un disco antológico a mi entender, con el que estuvieron dos años completos de gira, que se extendió hasta que la banda terminó con su atadura contractual con la discográfica "Atlantic", allá por 1994. En ese instante firman con "Geffen", otra de las gigantes americanas, y con ellos sacarán este "Louder than hell" que ahora nos ocupa. A pesar de las buenas ventas del álbum, la crítica acusó al disco de simple compositivamente hablando. Puede ser incluso cierto, pero también puede que una banda como Manowar no necesite la complejidad musical de "Dream Theater", pues su estilo es eficaz siendo como es, y es lo que yo personalmente quiero que sea. Fuese como fuese, este "Louder than hell" es todo lo esperable en un disco de Manowar, épico, contundente, macarra si se quiere, y fácil de escuchar, y a mi juicio más que recomendable. Como ejemplo dejaré hoy en el blog otro de sus temas, "King", un tema que engaña en su inicio, muy tranquilito, para ir cogiendo poco a poco energía, con algún cambio más a tres cuartos del tema, para terminar completamente al estilo "Made in Manowar", con esos coros que se repetirán una y mil veces en los conciertos de la banda. Canciones para una vida - Stratovarius - Father Time

FATHER  TIME

Vuelvo de nuevo a Stratovarius en el blog, y de nuevo lo hago mirando al que posiblemente sea mi disco preferido de la banda. Como ya dije, dos grandes nombres han marcado la historia de este grupo, Timo Tolkki a la guitarra y Timo Kotipelto a la voz, a pesar de que ninguno de ellos fuera miembro fundador de la banda. El primero de ambos que se incorporó fue Tolkki muy al principio tocando desde la primera obra de estudio y ocupándose de las funciones de vocalista también en los tres primeros discos. En 1994, y para la grabación de su quinta obra Fourth dimension se incorpora Kotipelto a la voz. Desde esa época el grupo no dejó de crecer y crecer y podemos decir que su éxito fue el abono perfecto para el surgimiento posterior de tantas y tan impresionantes bandas finlandesas en el escenario internacional. Quiero pararme hoy en esta obra, Episode, de 1996, su sexta obra de estudio, en la que muestran una consolidación dentro del estilo, y en la que se reconoce, en gran parte, el sonido que harán desde entonces. El disco a mi juicio es perfecto siendo uno de los que más, si no el que más, me gusta de la banda como decía más arriba y escoger una canción tan solo, se me antoja dificil. Me decantaré en esta ocasión por su "Father Time" uno de los trayazos power metaleros que contiene este disco, un tema enérgico desde el momento mismo de su inicio, sin tregua de principio a fin, resumen perfecto de lo que es este disco y de lo que era este grupo en el punto más alto (compositivamente y desde luego para mi) de su carrera musical, temas con filo, con adornos pocos, los justos, con toda la garra que la banda terminó perdiendo en obras posteriores, sobre todo en la parte final de su carrera. En fin, este discazo es uno de esos que, a mi juicio,  hay simplemente que comprarse. Dejo un enlace a youtube de este "Father time", espectacular.

Canciones para una vida - Grave Digger - The Bruce

THE BRUCE

Estos alemanes se formaron en 1980 y comenzaron a sacar demos en 1983 grabando su primer larga duración en 1984, y desde el comienzo tuvieron una buena acogida entre el público y la crítica. Tras sacar un EP en 1984 y dos discos más de estudio en 1985 y 1986 decidieron cambiar de nombre para pasar a llamarse Digger hasta el 87 y después Hawaii entre el 88 y el 91. Al no obtener el resultado esperado deciden en 1991 volver a su nombre original de Grave Digger siguiendo así hasta el presente. Grave digger tiene una extensa discografía que consta de 16 discos de estudio así como de 8 EP's. Su música es un heavy power metal contundente con elementos épicos y en ocasiones instrumentaciones tradicionales como gaitas sobre todo, destacando la contundente y particular voz de Chris Boltendahl que hacen de ellos un combo espectacular que recomiendo ver en directo si se tiene la ocasión. Entre 1996 y 1999 Grave Digger sacó una trilogía histórico-medieval que resulta uno de los hitos en su carrera, simplemente perfecta, tres discos antológicos que hay que tener sin más. De ellos el primero es para mi insuperable, es el "Tunes of War", de 1996, del que aquí os dejo otro de sus temas de un disco en el que todos y cada uno son necesarios, en esta ocasión, "The Bruce". Tras esta trilogía parte de la banda se marcho de Grave Digger para formar la alucinante y por desgracia no suficientemente reconocida banda llamada Rebellion, con Uwe Lulis y Tomi Gottlich, una banda de la que ya hemos hablado también en este blog. Grave Digger ha seguido sacando discos hasta el presente y siguen en forma, cada obra suya es un seguro de vida, nunca defrauda su sonido, te gustará más o menos pero siempre suena bien, la última prueba es su "Return of the reaper", de 2014. En fin, toda una garantía este grupazo en el que merece la pena bucear para llenarse con sus canciones que son muchas y muy buenas. Dejo un enlace a youtube de este "The Bruce".

Canciones para una vida - Pettypew - Immortal

IMMORTAL

De nuevo una banda poco o nada conocida para el gran público en general, se trata de Pettypew, de Alemania, una banda que desarrollo su corta actividad en la década de los 90 principalmente, aunque en 2002 editasen su segundo EP. Su música es un power speed metal con algún ramalazo thrsh americano y heavy tradicional que curiosamente sonaban más a estadounidenses que europeos. Se forman en 1990 editando su primer material en forma de EP en 1992, "Dedication". Ya en 1996 editan su único LP hasta la fecha de esta reseña, "Against the stream of influence", y digo hasta la fecha pues su estatus parece ser activo aunque no hayan dado señales de vida musicalmente hablando desde 2002. Como digo, en 2002 editan su segundo EP, "Back where we belong" siendo su último material edutado. Quiero hoy dejar una canción en el blog de su único larga duración, "Against the stream of influence", del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su tema "Immortal". Un caso más de bandas que han pasado desapercibidas a pesar de su talento, y en este caso en concreto, aunque no sonaban mejor que la mayoría, tampoco lo hacían peor, ya se sabe, los caprichos muchas veces del destino, del dinero o de las discográficas, o de todo al mismo tiempo, el caso es que cuando un rebusca entre el mar de bandas desconocidas siempre se puede llevar una buena sorpresa en forma de canción.

Canciones para una vida - Yngwie Malmsteen - Child In Time

CHILD IN TIME

De nuevo el virtuoso sueco de la guitarra Yngwie J. Malmsteen en nuestro blog. Ya hemos dicho en alguna otra entrada de este músico que es una de las mayores influencias del subgénero Neoclassical metal, y uno de los primeros del Shred, que se refiere al subgénero que en el Heavy Metal habla de una  ejecución en guitarra de piezas con un alto nivel de complejidad, muy técnicos y a alta velocidad. Yngwie se ve influido desde chaval por la música de Ritchie Blackmore y la música clásica. Comienza su andadura musical formando dos grupos, Steeler (Estados Unidos) en primer lugar, al que no hay que confundir con Steeler (Alemania), en el que militó en sus inicios Axel Rudi Pell. Con Steeler (USA), Yngwie graba un solo LP en 1983 y pasa a formar Alkatrazz, con quienes graba otro, también en 1983 y donde comienza a aproximarse a un estilo más propio. Pronto decide comenzar su carrera en solitario y así en 1984 saca su primer disco de estudio bajo el nombre de Yngwie Malmsteen. Desde entonces 18 discos han visto la luz. Es en lo referente a las influencias musicales del genial guitarrista por lo que hoy quiero dejar en el blog una canción de su noveno disco, "Inspiration", de 1996, un disco con un título muy apropiado pues se trata de un tributo que el músico realiza tanto a la música que le influyó de chaval, como a los propios inicios de su carrera musical ya que es un disco de versiones de temas de sus ídolos y cantado por los vocalistas Jaff Scott Soto, Mark Boals o Joe Lynn Turner, todos ellos ligados a Yngwie en los inicios de su carrera, durante los 4 primeros discos de Yngwie. Así, podemos encontrar en esta obra versiones de Kansas, Rainbow, Hendrix, Scorpions o Deep purple. Es una de las versiones de un tema de Deep Purple, "Child in time", la que quiero dejar hoy en el blog, cantada magníficamente por Mark Boals, una versión de todo un clásico de nuestra música, fundamental para entender lo que vino después, con el toque característico de Yngwie, del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Angra - Freedom Call

FREEDOM CALL

Angra es una banda brasileña que lleva ya más de 20 años en la escena musical. Al hablar de esta banda debemos referirnos a dos épocas en relación a sus vocalistas, la época con Andre Matos y la época sin él. Angra se forma en 1991 en Brasil haciendo un power metal con un toque progresivo. Desde el inicio de la banda el joven vocalista Andre Matos estuvo en la misma, proveniendo de la banda brasileña "Viper", a la que nos referiremos más adelante en este blog. Permaneció en ella hasta el año 99 sacando la banda  3 discos de estudio y 4 EP's con él en tareas vocales. Dejaría la banda entonces por incompatibilidad con sus compañeros a nivel compositivo para formar Shaman y después su carrera en solitario con su propio nombre hasta el presente, amén de participar en proyectos de otros músicos, algunos del renombre y éxito de "Avantasia". A partir de ese momento Angra sigue su historia aparte de Matos. Angra tiene ocho discos de estudio en total, el último de los cuales ha salido hace tan solo unos meses con la incorporación estelar en funciones vocales del cantante Fabio Lione de Rhapsody. 5 EP's completan su discografía. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una canción perteneciente a uno de sus EP's, en concreto al tercer EP de su carrera, "Freedom Call", de 1996, un trabajo editado tras el segundo LP, "Holy Land", también de 1996. En esta época la banda gozaba de gran reconocimiento internacional que se plasmaba en amplias giras que les llevaban a mercados tan importantes como el japonés por ejemplo. Este momento fue aprovechado or la banda con la edición de algunos EP`s entre los LP's que iban sacando, como este al que hago referencia en el que el grupo aprovechó para hacer varias regrabaciones de temas propios, una versión del "painkiller" de Judas Priest y un tema exclusivo, que da título al EP, "Freedom Call", que es el que quiero dejar hoy en el blog. En esta época encontramos un sonido de la banda muy característico, con ese ligero toque progresivo y la inconfundible voz de Andre Matos, características que se repetirían en el posterior disco de estudio "Fireworks", de 1998, muy aclamado por crítica y público, y última obra ante de la salida del carismático vocalista de Angra. En fin, volveremos a Angra en alguna otra ocasión, hoy dejo un enlace a youtube de este "Freedom Call".

Canciones para una vida - Labyrinth - Time Has Come

TIME HAS COME

Labyrinth es una banda italiana formada en 1991 cuyos miembros decidieron utilizar pseudónimos en lugar de sus nombres originales, siendo los nombres escogidos la traducción o adaptación de los suyos propios al inglés o alemán, así Franco Rubulotta (Frank Andiver - Batería), Luca Contini (Ken Taylor - Teclados), Andrea Bartoletti (bajo), Andrea Cantarelli (Anders Rain - guitarra), Carlo Andrea Magnani (Olaf Thorsen - guitarra), Fabio Tordiglione (Joe Terry - Cantante, quien después sería mundialmente conocido en el mundo metálico como Fabio Lione, por su trabajo al frente de Rhapsody). Semejante plantel de músicos desde un principio despertaron el interés de prensa especializada en Italia y Alemania, con su power metal de claro carácter progresivo y sin miedo alguno a la innovación, lo que les lleva a firmar con la discográfica "Underground Symphony" por aquellos momentos un nuevo sello "Indie". Andrea Bartoletti (Bajo) deja la banda y será sustituido por Chris Breeze (Cristiano Bertocchi), formación con la que editan su primer EP, "Piece of time", en 1995, con un sonido más Melodic speed metal con abundancia de teclados en aquellos momentos. En 1996 llega su primer LP, "No limits", toda una declaración de intenciones que les puso en el mapa internacional musical, despertando gran interés en Europa y Japón. En 1996, Fabio deja la banda para pasar a cantar para Rhapsody y le sustituye en Labyrinth Rob Tyrant (Roberto Tiranti), además en 1997 Frank Andiver (Franco Rubulotta) y Ken Taylor (Luca Contini) dejan también el grupo siendo reemplazados por Mat Stancioiu (Mattia Stancioiu) y Andrew McPauls (Andrea De Paoli). Con esta formación afrontan su segundo LP, "Return to heaven denied", de 1998. Una obra editada ya bajo un sello mayor, "Metal Blade records" que les lleva a una mayor promoción y a tocar por ejemplo en el festival de verano "Gods of Metal Festival", nada menos que junto a Black Sabbath, Pantera, Helloween o Blind Guardian, lo que les dio el impulso final. En total Labyrinth ha editado 7 LP's y 2 EP's. Hoy quiero volver a sus inicios para dejar en el blog una canción de su álbum debut, "No Limits", como antes decía de 1996, un disco experimental que les ponía en la escena internacional con la difícil misión de ponerles una etiqueta que aún no existía, pues esta obra tiene un poquito de power metal, un poco de progresivo, algún aderezo hard-heavy ochentero e incluso mucho de electrónico... demostrando mucha personalidad y no poca valentía. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de los temas que más me gustan del disco, y aunque sea la balada "Time has come", que no creo que sea el tema más representativo del sonido del disco, pero que siempre me ha parecido espectacular en su vertiente vocal y melódica con la guitarra, y como este blog hace hincapié sobre todo en canciones, pues ahí queda este tema "Time has come", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.
