Axel Rudi Pell - Eternal Prisioner - Canciones Para Una Vida

 

ETERNAL  PRISIONER 

Si diferenciamos la carrera de Axel Rudi Pell en solitario teniendo en cuenta sus cantantes, tenemos tres épocas a las que hacer mención, si no contamos la de Charlie Huhn que solo cantó en su primera obra, así, 90-91 para Rob Rock, que también cantaría solo en su segunda obra, Jeff Scott Soto lo haría entre 1992 y 1997, con obras francamente reseñables, para mi gusto la mejor de ese periodo "Black Moon Pyramid", y luego entre 1998 y la actualidad Jhonny Gioeli, ex de Hardline y ya un icono del sonido Pell tanto casi como el propio Axel y su inconfundible guitarra. Hoy quiero rescatar otra de las obras de prolífico músico, la primera de la época Soto a la voz, "Eternal Prisioner" de 1992, acompañado además por otros grandes nombres como Jorg Michael a la batería, y de esa obra dejo hoy el tema que la da nombre, "Eternal Prisioner" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Axel Rudi Pell - Desert Fire

DESERT  FIRE

Vamos hacia la parte inicial de la carrera en solitario del guitarrista alemán Axel Rudi Pell, tan prolífico como predecible, tan constante como un reloj suizo, es evidente que tenía mucho que decir compositivamente en solitario tras su salida de Steeler, banda que ya dejo auténticas perlas en su discografía. Pero la carrera del guitarrista en solitario estaba a punto de comenzar, y a finales de los 80 dio el paso, siempre rodeándose de grandes músicos. En 1994 editaba su cuarto LP "Between the walls", con Jeff Scott Soto a la voz y Jorg Michael a la batería por ejemplo por citar los nombres más reconocibles lo que solo podía desembocar en una remarcable obra ya con un reconocidisimo caracter personal que nunca ha avandonado la banda - músico, a lo largo y ancho de toda su carrera. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de sus canciones, concretamente la instrumental "Desert Fire", donde muestra una vez más que el shred no debe ser siempre sinónimo de exceso, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Vamos con una de las especialidades del incombustible guitarrista alemán Axel Rudi Pell, son esos temas a medio gas, que pasan de comienzo baladístico evolucionando a poco hacia un medio tiempo melódico con su toque tan reconocible y que como no podía ser de otra forma en este nuevo album de 2024, "Risen Symbol" está también presente a través de temas como este "Taken By Storm", a pesar de lo previsible que pueda resultar una obra de esta banda es de esos grupos que no por esperables dejan de tener su encanto, y además tras tantos años y tantísimas obras se encuentran perfectamente engrasados como grupo, con las ideas claras, gustandose a si mismos que es el primer paso para gustar a otros, dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube de este "Taken by storm".

Hecha una reseña de este magnifico guitarrista alemán, hechas todas, esto, que podría tomarse como algo malo para muchos, puede verse también desde el otro extremo, desde la perspectiva de la calidad, la constancia, y ese enorme gusto compositivo que lleva mostrando ya desde 1989 a través de sus 22 Lp's de estudio si contamos este "Risen Symbol" que verá la luz de forma oficial el 14 de junio. Como digo, poco más que añadir, otra de esas bandas que si no existiera habría que inventarla, con su nicho propio en la escena internacional, reconocida y reconocible. MORNING  STAR

Solo un músico o una banda de las verdaderamente prolíficas pueden ser capaces de editar nada menos que seis discos recopilatorios de baladas, (de momento) en una carrera musical en la que ese apartado compositivo han alcanzado una verdadera dimensión de importancia y un gran peso específico. Axel Rudi Pell es el mejor ejemplo de ello, y la prueba definitiva de que el sonido metálico necesita de ese contrapunto compositivo que equilibre la potencia con la calma. En este recopilatorio se incluyen cinco temas nuevos, entre canciones nuevas, instrumentales nuevas, versiones nuevas y temas recopilados desde la aparición de su "The Ballads V" de 2017. LAND  OF  THE  GIANTS

Recuperando el material clásico de nuevo del guitarrista alemán Axel Rudi Pell, en esta ocasión a través de su segundo LP "Nasty Reputation" de 1991, encontramos auténticas joyas de temas, vemos ese momento por entonces fresco de su sonido, con todos los elementos que han terminado por ser seña de identidad de sus composiciones posteriores, y de este citado disco quiero hoy dejar otro de sus temas, quizá el que más me gusta de la obra, "Land of the giants" que muestra una de las tesituras compositivas en que mejor se desenvuelve el músico, la de esos temas largos, con cambios de ritmo, que crean atmósferas como preparando esos punteos marca de la casa para dejarte ese sabor de boca como perfecto, con esa sensación de tener que volver de inmediato a escuchar la misma canción de nuevo, de no hacersete larga a pesar de que en muchas ocasiones este tipo de temas se van por encima de los diez minutos, creo sinceramente que es uno de los puntos fuertes de Axel y aquí lo realiza con maestría apoyado por entonces, (1991) en la voz enorme de Rob Rock, antes de la era Jeff Scott Soto y de la Gioeli. DOWN  ON  THE  STREETS

Al igual que decía en la anterior entrada del blog sobre Hammerfall, a Axel Rudi Pell no es que se le pueda acusar de original en cada nueva obra con lo ofrecido en la anterior, lo que puede fomentar la argumentación de los detractores de su sonido, sin embargo, la garantía que cualquier fan de la banda tiene de antemano respecto a como va a sonar la nueva obra, tanto en estilo como en calidad general es argumento de peso que justificará esa homogeneidad general compositiva de toda la carrera de la banda. Además se trata de una de esas bandas que entregan una obra nueva cada uno o dos años a lo más, como un reloj de precisión, otro argumento a favor de los que gusten del sonido de este germano y los músicos que le rodean. SURVIVE

A la vista ya el vigésimo primer LP de estudio del guitarrista alemán Axel Rudi Pell que da nombre a la banda, absolutamente asentada y que desde 1998 tan solo ha visto algún cambio en el puesto de batería ya que en 2013 Bobby Rondinelli fue el último en incorporarse a esta maquinaria perfectamente engrasada de hacer LP's. Una vez más, lo que se puede comentar a riesgo de resultar repetitivo es la homogeneidad compositiva de la carrera del grupo, uno sabe exactamente lo que va a encontrar en cada obra del grupo, y una vez más esta no será una excepción. El alemán Axel Rudi Pell es un ejemplo de lo que es ser regular, en general, y en lo referente a sacar discos, ya sean obras nuevas, ya sean recopilatorios,(sobre todo de baladas), ya sea de versiones (como es este caso) o directos, estamos ante un auténtico martillo pilón, un músico que fiel al estilo que se ha propuesto desde el inicio, edita material siempre de calidad casi cada año, y, teniendo en cuenta la extensión ininterrumpida de la misma será con el tiempo una de esas bandas con mayor número de LP's publicados, posiblemente junto con Rage. Contando todos los citados anteriormente LP's este será el número 32, nada menos, propiamente de estudio este será el 20. NASTY  REPUTATION

Los inicios en la carrera en solitario del guitarrista alemán Axel Rudi Pell ya dejaban entrever por donde se iba a desarrollar su sonido, y desde esos comienzos el músico empezó a desarrollar ciertos elementos compositivos que ha mantenido intactos hasta el presente, a lo largo y ancho de sus, hasta la fecha de esta reseña, 19 LP's de estudio. Los cambios más notorios han venido por parte de sus vocalistas, Charlie Hunh en su debut, Rob Rock del 90 al 91, Jeff Scott Soto, del 92 al 97 y Johnny Gioeli del 98 en adelante, seña ya de identidad de la banda también.Hoy quiero rescatar la segunda obra de estudio del guitarrista, "Nasty Reputation", de 1991, la única con Rob Rock a la voz, gran vocalista que aquí, como no podía ser de otra manera, desarrolló una gran labor. En esta época complicada para el heavy metal tradicional en la escena intarnacional como era el comienzo de los noventa, Axel hace su segunda apuesta, con esa fusión hacia el hard heavy, ese punto "Shreddie", esa escuela clásica, que contribuyó en dicho momento a que el metal de corte más clásico no desapareciese en pro de otros sonidos incipientes.Hoy quiero dejar en el blog de esta obra el tema que da nombre a la misma, "Nasty Reputation", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Otra de las canciones que componen la nueva obra del guitarrista alemán Axel Rudi Pell, y una de las que más me han gustado del comjunto del disco es este "Into the fire", con muchos de los ingredientes atribuibles a la banda. DARK  WAVES  OF  THE  SEA

 En pleno periodo de espera de la salida del nuevo material del guitarrista alemán "Axel Rudi Pell", en el que será el décimo noveno LP de estudio del grupo parece apropiado rebuscar entre el mucho y buen material de esta extensa discografía, y que mejor que hacerlo buscando una canción que reuna muchos o todos los elementos clásicos y típicos de su sonido estandar. Una de esas canciones puede ser la que hoy dejo en el blog, "Dark Waves Of the sea", del décimo cuarto LP de estudio del grupo, "The Crest", de 2010, una canción larga, uno de los rasgos típicos de muchos de los temas de Axel, en clave de medio tiempo, y que resulta ser una especie de continuación o segunda parte otro tema anterior, "Oceans of time", seguramente la obra que más me gusta de la banda. GUNFIRE

Décimo noveno disco de estudo del alemán Axel Rudi Pell, de título "Sign of the times" y cuya salida oficial se espera para el próximo mes de abril. Estamos pués ante un capitulo más en la carrera del guitarrista, quien, como un martillo pilón, con una precisión casi escrupulosa nos regala cada dos años más o menos una obra nueva desde hace tres décadas ya, sin apenas innovación, con sus conceptos claros y sus patrones repetidos, pero al mismo tiempo demostrando la calidad que atesora en lo compositivo tanto como en lo interpretativo, es casi ya como de la familia, sabiendo que podrás contar con su nuevo material de una manera cíclica y también que sonoará a si mismo. SLAVES  ON  THE  RUN

Con el sonido de esta banda, con el sello del alemán Axel Rudi Pell a la guitarra siempre es lo mismo, garantía de calidad, sonido predecible pero sin sentido negativo, pero desde luego si además hay algo que no se le puede negar al músico es la consistencia en lo que a material editado se refiere, y es que Axel es como un reloj de precisión, sacando material cada año o cada dos, ya sea LP nuevo, un recopilatorio de baladas, uno normal o un disco en vivo. Este 2019 será un disco de este último tipo, (directo) el que pondrá una X en su lista de años con material editado. Siempre la palabra fidelidad acude a la mente de las obras de este guitarrista alemán, fidelidad a su propio concepto compositivo, a una banda compuesta por buenos músicos, y aunque sin duda eso hable de predecibilidad, por otro lado habla de calidad, y siempre es un punto a favor. Aprovecho la edición por parte de la banda de un lyric video de otro de los temas de su última obra como excusa para traer el tema al blog, se trata de la canción "The wild and the young" de su último LP editado "Knights Call" de este 2018, 100% Axel Rudi Pell, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube del citado "Lyric video oficial".

 Otra canción de Axel Rudi Pell, por lo tanto una vez más un sonido totalmente reconocible, en mi opinión dicho sea como algo bueno por la calidad que siempre se relaciona con este magnífico guitarrista alemán, y la banda de la que se rodea, siempre músicos de excelente calidad. En esta ocasión dejo en el blog una canción de su décimo álbum de estudio, un LP este "Kings and Queens" de 2004, 100 % Axel Rudi Pell, y hoy dejo la canción "Strong as a rock", uno de los que pudiesen haber sido elegidos por la banda como singles de la obra por lo pegadizo de la canción, de la que dejo un enlace a youtube, nada más que añadir, Axel Rudi Pell en estado puro.

LONG  LIVE  ROCK

Abordar un disco nuevo de Axel Rudi Pell es acercarse a algo nuevo pero al mismo tiempo conocido, ya que lo predecible de lo que uno va a encontrarse es mucho más que perdonable, primero por la calidad innegable de la banda, (sobre todo por el peso específico de Axel), y segundo porque a pesar de repetirse un mismo esquema disco tras disco este tío tiene la virtud de que de hecho desees que su obra suene a lo que suena, a estas alturas lo que nos resultaría raro es otra cosa. Sea como fuere, el décimo octavo disco de estudio de la banda ya está aquí, con Pell a la guitarra y composición y Gioeli a la voz, además del resto de la banda con la incorporación de bajista nuevo, Volker Krawczak, que ya coincidiera con Axel en sus tiempo de Steeler. Al final la estabilidad del grupo contribuye sin duda al éxito que mantienen con los años a pesar de su reticencia al cambio, o quizá gracias a ella. Canciones para una vida - Axel Rudi Pell - On The Edge Of Our Time

ON  THE  EDGE  OF  OUR  TIME

Ya tenemos aquí la quinta entrega de baladas de Axel Rudi Pell, y viendo la capacidad compositiva del genial guitarrista alemán seguro que no será la última recopilación que haga en este sentido, Es evidente que para hacer cinco discos de baladas uno debe tener tras de si una larga trayectoria musical y un buen puñado de discos, y claro está este es el caso. Con 17 discos de estudio a sus espaldas y una carrera en solitario que comenzó en 1989 cuando dejó la banda "Steeler", este guitarrista viene a editar un disco de estudio cada 2 años aproximadamente, hayando así material suficiente para poder editar cinco discos ya centrados en solo baladas, unos disco que cuentan en ocasiones con colaboraciones especiales, como es el caso en esta quinta entrega con la participación de Bonnie Tyler en el tema"Love's holding on", además de soler contar con algún tema especialmente editado para dichas recopilaciones, como en esta ocasión este "On the edge of our time", con todos los clichés típicos y esperables de sus composiciones, incluida una duración por encima de los 7 minutos, y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube. Nada diferente pues, lo cual es uno de esos casos que yo celebro.

FOOL  FOOL

La aventura musical de Axel Rudi Pell comienza con la banda Steeler, allá por el año 1981. De hecho, Steeler comienza como "Sinner" en 1981, y  no será hasta 1983 en que adopten esa denominación de "Steeler"con la que funcionarán hasta el fin de la banda allá por 1988 con su "Undercover animal", (del que hablaremos en este blog algún día), disco tras el que la banda cesa su actividad comenzando Axel Rudi Pell su carrera en solitario ya en 1989 con su primer disco bajo el nombre Axel Rudi Pell titulado "Wild Obsession". Desde entonces 17 discos de estudio nos hablan de un prolífico músico que viene a sacar un disco de estudio cada 2 años de media más o menos, sin contar sus recopilaciones de baladas que ya van por su cuarta entrega. Su buen hacer musical le ha llevado a vender más de 1,5 millones de discos en todo el mundo. Hoy quiero hablar de su quinta obra de estudio, la tercera con Jeff Scott Soto a la voz, y penúltimo antes de ser sustituido por el gran Johnny Gioeli, que ha seguido hasta la actualidad. Es su disco "Black moon pyramid" de 1996. Es un disco muy en la onda Axel Rudi Pell, como todos realmente, ya que, como he dicho en alguna ocasión, siempre que escucho un disco de Axel Rudi Pell sé lo que voy a encontrar, y eso, a pesar de que a muchos les suene a que no evoluciona también se puede ver como su seña de identidad y para mi gusto no es nada malo pues su concepto musical es bueno y no veo porque tiene que cambiarlo. Una garantía de calidad en composición y sonido. Del disco que nos ocupa podemos destacar muchas canciones importantes dentro de la discografía del genial guitarrista alemán, así temas como"Touch the rainbow", "You and I", o la balada "Silent angel" entre otras hacen que este disco sea muy facil de escuchar. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog otro de los temas icónicos de la obra y del músico en general, "Fool fool", con todo el filo de los mejores temas del genial guitarrista y del que dejo un enlace a youtube.
