SWORD  &  SORCERY

Otro grupo del que ya llevamos tiempo sin tener noticias de su actividad compositiva son los alemanes "Majesty", una banda que comenzó su andadura allá por 1997 con su innegable espejo llamado Manowar, un tema que resulta tan evidente que jamás se han molestado en negarlo o justificar nada, y que era más evidente aún en el inicio de su carrera. Poco a poco, con la edición de LP's han ido tratando de encontrar un camino más propio y personal aunque jamás se han terminado de alejar de ese sonido tan "True" que los americanos hicieran suyo y que otros como por ejemplo Majesty han imitado. Desde 2019 no editan nada nuevo, con la que ha sido su noveno LP "Legends", y hoy quiero repasar de nuevo su discografía para centrarme en su segundo LP, el primero que cayó en mis manos del grupo, un disco muy "Manowaristico", de 2002, que por sonido y estética, (basta con ver la portada) confirma esa influencia. Canciones para una vida - Falconer - We Sold Our Homesteads

 

WE  SOLD  OUR  HOMESTEADS

Es siempre una lástima la separación de una banda, y cuando ese grupo ha entregado capitulos discográficos que te han llegado, desarrollando un estilo personal aunque se agarre a otras corrientes ya preexistentes, la pena se redobla dando una cierta sensación de horfandad por la certeza de no tener más episodios de ese tipo. Con los suecos Falconer me pasa eso, si repaso la discografía de la banda que nos dejó nueve LP's de estudio entre 1999 y 2020, encuentro muchos de esos momentos que por uno u otro motivo dejaron el sello de la banda y en mí dejaron también buenos recuerdos asociados a ellos, lo que suele pasar con esto de la música, de ahí en parte ese poder que tiene. En 2002 el grupo sacaba su segundo LP de estudio, "Chapters from a vale forlorn", que tenía la misión de dar relevo al fenomenal debut del grupo un año antes, debut con gran acogida por la crítica, merecida, y que les puso en el mapa. El segundo LP es digno sucesor del primero, quizá menos completo pero donde perfilaban definitivamente lo que iba a ser el sello sonoro de la banda, un disco muy reconocible en términos "Falconer" del que hoy dejo en el blog una de las canciones, "We sold our homesteads" que encarna bien una de las especialidades del grupo, la vertiente a fuego lento, los medios tiempos de aire un tanto melancólico y no carentes de fuerza, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Cryonic Temple - King Of Transylvania

 

KING  OF  TRANSYLVANIA

De vuelta a la nutrida escena power europea de finales de los 90 y principios de los 2000, rescatamos hoy a otra banda que aún no había traido al blog, los suecos "Cryonic Temple", un claro ejemplo de infantería metálica, es decir una banda de esas que sin destacar demasiado, diluida en un sonido por entonces absolutamente masivo, si que supieron desde el comienzo hacer muy bien las cosas, ser correctos cuando menos y desarrollar un potencial que quizá mejor orientado y con por ejemplo menos parones, más continuidad habría podido alcanzar mayores cotas de popularidad a juzgar por el potencial y también por su buen hacer plasmado en sus obras, por supuesto. Formados en 1996 han desarrollado una carrera como digo con parones y con una discografía un tanto escasa a juzgar por los años de actividad que asciende a 6 LP's de estudio. El primero de esos LP's es de 2002, titulado "Chapter I", un gran primer paso de heavy power metal con aire épico, en ocasiones, como en el tema que hoy dejo en el blog, "King of Transylvania" con ese espiritu de Happy Metal a lo Helloween, Gamma Ray o Freedom Call, se notan las influencias clásicas de la banda. Canciones para una vida - Forefather - The Fate Of Kings

 

THE  FATE  OF  KINGS

Haciendo un repasillo a la discografía de la banda británica "Foorefather" he caido en la cuenta del mucho tiempo ya que hace desde la publicación de su último material de estudio, su el que en realidad es su primer EP, "Tales from a cloud born land" de 2017, que tiene siete antecedentes en formato LP desde 1999 en adelante y que muestran el gran hacer de una banda que me encanta, un grupo que enmarca su sonido en un death black melódic metal de temática absolutamente nórdica, entre vikinga y sajona, altamente recomendable. Este citado repaso en este caso es siempre un ejercicio bien recomendable, y hoy quiero mirar a su parte incial de nuevo para traer una de las canciones que forman parte de su dico "Engla Tocyme" de 2002, el que hace el tercero de sus LP's, concretamente "The fate of kings" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Dark At Dawn - Black Dream

 

BLACK  DREAM

La escena germana está repleta de nombres importantes reconocidos por todos, pero también hay otros muchos que no han cosechado el éxito o reconocimiento y sin embargo han hecho méritos más que suficientes en lo suyo para que su nombre fuese más sonado. En este marco encontramos a la gran banda Dark At dawn, uno de esos grupos que han sabido buscarse su propio hueco sonoro en la escena metálica a pesar de lo dicho del reconocimiento general, se trata de una de esas bandas que han encontrado su propia mezcla de elementos para desarrollar una especie de power metal oscurote llenos de melodía, contundencia y dosis de épica en una carrera que abarcó entre 1993 y 2012 y que nos dejó un legado de 5 LP's de estudio más dos EP's. En 2002 deciden editar una especie de recopilación de temas descartados, o no elegidos de sus demos para los LP's como tal, que se tituló "First Beams of light" que nos demuestra el potencial de la banda a través de temas en un principio decartados pero de la calidad por ejemplo de este "Black Dream" del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Freternia - The Darkside

 

THE  DARKSIDE 

Volvamos la vista atrás, a la década de los 2000, a sus inicios, a la escena sueca y al marco del power, tendremos grandes posibilidades de esncontrar algo bueno con esa triangulación, y en este caso de Freternia sin duda así es, pues se trata de una banda que ha demostrado con creces su potencial a pesar de que juzgar su carrera pueda resultar algo injusto si atendemos a la escasa producción de obras en relación a su tiempo de actividad, ( 3 LP¡s en más de 20 años), pero es que no todo son facilidades precisamente sin no cuentas con el favor del gran público, cosa que así es en este caso, y es aún más de justicia resaltar el tesón y la fidelidad a tus ideas a pesar de ello, y Freternia es justamente eso. "A nightmare story" es su segundo LP, grabado en 2002, que hacía presagiar un futuro inmediato mucho más brillante para la banda, disco completo, variado y dentro del género aunque sin salirse de los clichés con suficiente personalidad para mostrar su propio sello personal, obra recomendable de una banda recomendable, de la que hoy dejo en el blog la canción "The darkside" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - The Hammer Returneth & Signe Of The Warlorde

 

THE  HAMMER  RETURNETH  &  SIGNE  OF  THE  WARLORDE

Volvamos a comienzos de la década de los 2000, para ver el amanecer de una banda alemana de nombre "Stormwarrior", grupo que ha sabido mantenerse vivo a lo largo de esos años hasta la actualidad con 6 LP's de estudio completados con otros tres EP's. Hablamos de un power metal con un amplio tufillo al speed metal que comenzó a cambiar la escena internacional a mediados de los 80, de hecho, se trata de una banda que recibió en sus inicios el apoyo de nada menos que Kai Hansen y otros miembros de Helloween y Gamma Ray para comenzar su andadura con un poco de empuje y garantías, pero que desde el inicio supieron demostrar que el potencial estaba ahí y ellos también por méritos propios. Su primera obra, "Stormwarrior" data de 2002, y viendo la portada vemos mucho de por donde pueden ir los tiros, temáticas épicas, actitud true manowarera y apoyo helloweenero de los primeros días, del "walls" , para facturar un más que destacable debut que les puso en el mapa internacional. Una obra que tendría continuidad en sus siguientes discos y de la que hoy quiero dejar en el blog el tema que abre junto con su intro, canción de la que dejo un enlace a Youtube.

ALL  I  WANT

Esta banda alemana es una de las que puede presumir de una mayor productividad compositiva en forma de LP's, como demuestran sus 22 LP's de estudio editados hasta la fecha de esta reseña, a los que podríamos añadir el material editado en formato EP, con la nada desdeñable cantidad de 12. Entre tanto material es evidente que, sumando además la longeva carrera del grupo,encontraremos una evolución estilística, una mayor o menor afinidad a un disco en concreto o a una época en la banda en particular, pero siempre, como nexo común, encontramos el sello "Rage" en sus obras, que es sinónimo a decir el sello "Peavy" Wagner, catante, bajista y compositor además de único nexo común de todas las obras del grupo. Hoy quiero dejar otra de sus obras en el blog, en concreto del décimo quinto disco de estudio, "Unity", del que dejo una de sus canciones, "All I Want", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Freedom Call - Land Of Light

LAND  OF  LIGHT

 Ya he dicho en más de una ocasión en el blog lo que significa esta banda alemana "Freedom Call" musicalmente para mí, uno de esos raros ejemplos en que me resulta casi imposible decir una palabra negativa de lo que hacen estos tíos a lo largo y ancho de su ya dilatada carrera que comenzara allá por finales del siglo pasado más como un proyecto paralelo que como una banda en sí. Evidentemente poniendo pasión, ilusión y calidad por supuesto, se puede llegar bien lejos, más incluso de lo que uno mismo hubiera creído, algo que imagino que ha podido sucederle a esta bandaza que va ya por su noveno LP y promete alargar su existencia por lo en forma musicalmente que se encuentran. Hoy quiero volver de nuevo la mirada a una de sus primeras obras, concretamente a su tercer trabajo del que ya he hablado en el blog, "Eternity" recientemente reeditado y complementado, y del que se puede casi escoger cualquier tema sin miedo a equivocarse, destacando hoy este "Land of light" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Blind Guardian - Age Of False Innocence

AGE  OF  FALSE  INNOCENCE

"A night at the opera" es el séptimo álbum de estudio de los alemanes Blind Guardian. Editado en 2002 se trata de una obra de esas que marcan un cierto cambio en el sonido-historia de la banda, desde luego para nada radical, todo en Blind Guardian ha ido siendo progresivo y efecto de la decisión de tomar un camino musical concreto, lo que si es cierto es que desde este disco en adelante el sonido del grupo ha ido haciéndose más y más progresivo si se quiere, más sinfónico dejando atrás los inicios más "speedicos" y tradicionales. Desde luego esta decisión ha ido dejando fans por el camino al tiempo que ha ido sumando otros más nuevos. Después estamos los que nos hemos ido adaptando a los tiempos de la banda para apreciar todo en su justa medida y en su justo momento. Desde luego a mi particularmente me llenaba mucho más la parte inicial-media de la banda teniendo en  mi opinión el punto álgido en su "Imaginations from the other side" de 1995, cuestión de gustos supongo. Sea como sea lo que no puede nadie negar a Blind Guardian es la calidad, la influencia que han generado, generan y generarán y que siempre, siempre habrá un resquicio de cada uno de sus discos que te llegará, como mínimo, aunque la obra en general no te guste. En este "A night at the opera" encontramos ese paso más hacia lo progresivo y conceptual si se quiere a lo que me refería más arriba, un sonido más barroco, recargado y sinfónico que requiere de mayor atención para captar cada matiz, que tiene a raudales por cierto. También encontramos algunos temas más en una onda clásica del grupo, como este "Age of false innocence" del que hoy quiero dejar un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Avantasia - Chalice Of Agony

CHALICE  OF  AGONY

Segunda obra de Sammet bajo el nombre de Avantasia, la continuación de su metal opera que tanto sorprendiera a la escena internacional transformándose en un éxito casi al instante. Este "The metal opera parte 2" es para mí un punto de inflexión en Avantasia pues lo veo como la obra a partir de la que Sammet pensó en hacer un proyecto estable y alejarse de ese concepto claramente "argumental" con esa linea tan de historia y girar un poco hacia una banda más tradicional de power, eso sí manteniendo el sello Avantasia a través siempre de colaboraciones de lujo. Esta decisión hizo que en parte la banda perdiese la originalidad inicial y que incluso la banda madre de Sammet, "Edguy" se resintiese compositivamente para mi gusto, a pesar de lo espaciado de los discos de Avantasia, pero alimentar creativamente dos bandas semejantes tiene que resultar complicado, incluso para un músico como Sammet, si quieres mantener el nivel arriba. La prueba de lo que digo la veo cinco años más tarde de este "Metal opera parte 2", en 2007 con su "Lost in space" doble EP, con temas mucho más "Single" por así decir y con una estructura más "Edguy". Sea como fuere, el disco que hoy nos ocupa, "The metal opera part 2" de 2002, resulta un digno sucesor de su deslumbrante debut y planteaba de manera natural la necesidad de hacer de Avantasia una proyecto duradero que muchos metalheads demandaban. Hoy quiero destacar de esta obra uno de sus temas, en concreto este "Chalice of agony", con la colaboración vocal de André Matos y Kai Hansen, y del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Una vez más al referirme a esta banda que ya he traído al blog en alguna otra ocasión lo primero que acude a mi cabeza es que estamos ante una de las mejores bandas españolas del género, power metal de corte europeo, un claro exponente del movimiento que se desarrollo durante la segunda mitad de la década de los noventa y la primera década del presente siglo, y por lo tanto contiene todos los clichés esperados y esperables de una banda de primera linea. Igualmente como sucede en demasiadas ocasiones el reconocimiento que han tenido, (paradójicamente sobre todo en España) siempre ha sido desacorde a la calidad innegable que han tenido a lo largo de toda su carrera que aún continúa tras ya casi 25 años en activo y 10 LP's a fecha de esta reseña. Echando un vistazo a su carrera quiero hoy recuperar un tema de su tercer larga duración, "The gates of oblivion" de 2002, una obra absolutamente hija de su tiempo, en esa onda power que ha caracterizado a muchas bandas de la época y que particularmente en Dark Moor tiene un gusto por el sonido neoclásico tan de la escuela sueca. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog la canción "Nevermore" perteneciente a esta obra, un buen ejemplo de por donde han ido siempre los tiros musicales de este grupo, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Metalium - Odin's Spell

ODIN'S  SPELL


Hacía tiempo ya que no traía al blog material de esta gran banda alemana que dio guerra a lo largo de la década de los 2000 antes de su separación definitiva en 2011, se trata de Metalium, un grupo nacido con vocación de proyecto paralelo pero que siempre estuvo respaldado por músicos de primer orden, así los Mike Terrana, Chris Caffery, Henning Basse, Lars Ratz o Matthias Lange entre otros siempre pusieron el foco sobre la banda de todo seguidor del power internacional, y quizá por una parte dándole la cancha para editar 8 discos en total en apenas una década pero por otra poniendo demasiada presión que terminó por hacer que la banda estuviese siempre sujeta a idas y venidas de músicos y continuas criticas por la perpetuación en su concepto musical tachándoseles de copiarse a si mismos. Sea como sea Metalium creo una discografía suficientemente amplia en relativamente poco tiempo, lo suficientemente amplia para ganarse el respeto de muchos entre los que me incluyo, y que cuenta con auténticos discazos, en mi humilde opinión, como por ejemplo su debut de 1999 "Millennium metal" del que ya he hablado en el blog. Hoy quiero dejar un tema de su tercra obra, "Hero Nation", de 2002, un disco en el que a nivel musical hay que reseñar la marcha de uno de sus dos guitarristas, lo que hizo variar un tanto el trabajo de la sección de cuerda de la banda a la hora de componer, eso sí, siempre manteniendo una identidad que fue perenne a lo largo de la historia de la banda. Así pues nos encontramos ante otra obra de alto nivel power, y de la que quiero hoy dejar la canción "Odin's Spell", un tema de cierta vocación épica y del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Dragonland - Through Elven Woods And Dwarven Mines

THROUGH  ELVEN  WOODS  AND  DWARVEN  MINES

 Ya he hablado de este grupo en el blog en una ocasión para referirme a su material más reciente publicado, y hoy quiero echar un vistazo al lado contrario de su carrera, es decir sus inicios. Dragonland es un grupo sueco de power metal, cuya música está influida por un concepto sinfónico en muchas ocasiones, incluyendo algunas adaptaciones de música clásica, y con una vocación épica tanto musical como líricamente ya que sus letras son, igualmente, adaptaciones de la saga de literatura fantástica "Crónicas de la Dragonlance", en una especie de versión que ellos mismos han escrito llamándola "crónicas de Dragonland". La banda lleva ya un largo recorrido en la escena internacional pues se forman en 1999 y continúan en la actualidad, si bien, desde 2011 no han editado nada de material nuevo. Llevan 5 LP's editados. Se nota un gran apoyo compositivo en los teclados, omnipresentes en muchas de sus canciones ya sea llevando el peso melódico o en un continuo segundo plano lo que le da esa sensación sinfónica a la que antes me refería. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una canción de su segundo LP, "Holy War", de 2002, concretamente "Through elven woods and dwarven mines", un título con claro "tufillo" "Tolkieniano", y solo atendiendo a dicho título y sabiendo del concepto power y la época de edición de la obra podemos intuir por donde van los tiros, power de los 90 - 2000 de corte europeo y temática fantástica, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Holy Knights - Gate Through The Past

GATE THROUGH THE PAST

Power metal de aquella hornada italiana que explotó en la parte final de la década de los 90, ese power con tintes sinfónicos a la par que épicos y con una estructura sonora y un volumen de grupos que bien pudiese haber supuesto un subgénero si no hubiese sido porque al final se trataba de power, un sonido más que asentado lo que hacía inviable tal cuestión. Es indudable que estamos ante otra de esas bandas que supieron despuntar ante el mayúsculo interés que Rhapsody despertó a nivel planetario, y siguiendo aquel camino, incluyendo la temática fantástico-medieval, hicieron sus pinitos este y otros grupos que inundaron la escena power del momento. La verdad es que Holy Knights no llegó nunca a tener las ventas de su lado, y tampoco su impacto fue grande ni su carrera muy prolífica pero desde luego tenían calidad sufuciente para haber mantenido el pulso con mayor éxito ya que poco o nada tenían que envidiar a otros compatriotas coetáneos que si que lo lograron. Holy Knights se forma en 1998 y a lo largo de su historia como banda han editado tan solo dos LP's, uno en 2002, este "A gate through the past" que traigo hoy al blog, y otro en 2012, "between Daylight and pain", separados por una década pues entre 2002 y 2010 la banda cesó en su actividad. Como digo hoy traigo al blog un tema de su primera obra, concretamente el que da título al disco, "Gate through the past", donde demuestran lo que decía al inicio con respecto a su capacidad para haber aguantado en la escena al menos tan bien como otros compatriotas suyos que si que lo lograron, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Full Strike - Metal Mind

METAL  MIND

Un poquito ahora de power metal sueco en el blog para referirme al proyecto del ex-guitarrista de Hammerfall Stefan Elmgren "Full Strike". Nos encontramos con una obra absolutamente en onda Hammerfalliana aunque sin la característica voz de Cans, siendo sin embargo bien cubierta la función vocal en esta obra por el cantante Niclas Johnsson. La verdad es que tengo que explicar un poco de culebrón para referirme a este músico y obra como ahora vereis. Stefan Elmgren provenía de la banda sueca Highlander que terminarían por ser Lost Horizon, pero antes de ese cambio de nombre, Stefan salió de la banda y se enroló en Hammerfall allá por 1997. Pues bien, mientras Hammerfall se tomaba un descanso debido al accidente de moto que Oscar Dronjak, guitarra de Hammerfall había tenido tras la edición de su cuarta obra Crimson Thunder en 2002, Stefan aprovecho para sacar este material que hoy traigo al blog, su "We will rise", unico material editado bajo este nombre de Full Strike. No sería el único que aprovecharía el tiempo ya que Joachim Cans sacaría también en 2004 un disco bajo el nombre de Cans, en el que por cierto Elmgren participaría como guitarrista, "beyond the gates", del que he hablado ya en el blog. Pues bien, una vez recuperado Dronjak la carrera de Hammerfall continuaría con ambos músicos, pero, en 2008, Elmgrem, que durante el periodo de descanso entre 2002 y 2005 con Hammerfall había aprovechado para sacarse la licencia de piloto de aviones, decide dejar la banda para dedicarse a su nueva carrera como piloto, todo un culebrón. Evidentemente este buen guitarrista no iba a dejar la música y como muchos sabréis ha continuado unido al heavy a través de su proyecto "Fullforce" del que en más de una ocasión hablaré en el blog, y con quien ha editado ya dos buenos discos en 2011 y 2012. En definitiva, un buen guitarrista este sueco que en su Full Strike, de 2002,  nos da una nueva versión musical de los propios Hammerfall, un disco al que acercarse si te gusta su sonido, pues encontrarás la misma propuesta, como queda demostrado en temas como este "Metal Mind" del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Amon Amarth - Where Silent Gods Stand Guard

WHERE SILENT GODS STAND GUARD

Ya he acudido a estos vikingo en el blog en más de una ocasión y como ya he dicho, Amon Amarth es una banda sueca que banda nace en 1988 bajo el nombre de "Scum", con la que graban una demo, pero tras la incorporación de Johan Hegg en 1991 a la banda, en funciones de cantante, el grupo da un giro hacia el death metal, dejando atrás el "grindcore" de sus inicios, e incluyendo la temática vikinga en sus letras, y deciden cambiar en 1992 su nombre a "Amon Amarth", cuyo nombre significa "Monte del destino" en una de las lenguas de la amplia mitología de Tolkien. Lejos de buscar la inspiración para las letras y la música en el género fantástico Tolkineano, este grupo sueco se nutre exclusivamente de la mitología nórdica vikinga. Han editado hasta la fecha de esta reseña 9 discos de estudio más dos EP's de un death metal, más crudo en sus inicios para progresivamente girar hacia el death metal melódico desde la mitad de su carrera en adelante. La banda cuenta con una estabilidad bastante grande desde casi sus inicios, no teniendo cambios en sus filas desde 1999 en que el último de los miembros actuales, el batería Fredrik Andersson se incorporó a la banda. Hoy dejar en el blog un tema de su cuarta obra de estudio, "Versus the world", de 2002, en una época en que estos suecos venían regalándonos un disco por año llenos de leña a base de riffs y melodía a partes iguales, más desde el death en esta primera época, y su contundencia en ocasiones algo primaria había poco a poco hecho que la legión de fans fieles a este escuadrón de "berserkers" fuese en aumento disco tras disco. Como digo, para los no fanáticos o los enganchados más recientemente a estas ordas puede resultar algo monótono o denso, pero en definitiva no dejan de ser uno de los dioses dentro del sonido. dejo hoy un de los temas de la obra en el blog, en concreto "Where silent gods stand guard", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Luca Turilli - Black Realms Majesty

BLACK REALMS MAJESTY

Single de adelanto de la que fue segunda obra de estudio del ex guitarrista de Rhapsody Luca Turilli. Se trata de "Demonheart" un single que incluía un par de temas exclusivos que no aparecerían en el segundo disco "Prophet of the last eclipse", de 2002. Estamos en esa época en la que la música de Turilli en solitario tenía muchos nexos en común con lo que era el sonido de su banda madre Rhapsody en esos años, una época en la que, en mi humilde opinión, y apoyado también en el excelente trabajo vocal de Olaf Hayer con en su primer larga duración, su música era más acorde a lo que podríamos llamar un power metal más accesible, a diferencia de lo que comenzó a hacer desde este 2002 en adelante y que en cierto punto también se fue notando en Rhapsody progresivamente. Es posible que las ansias por brillar por encima de los que hasta ese momento eran compañeros en rhapsody le hiciese dar demasiadas vueltas de tuerca a su música, y, con el tiempo, para mi gusto se terminó perdiendo en un concepto demasiado rebuscado que a mi personalmente no me agrada. Sea como fuere, su segunda obra guardaba relación con su magnífico y muy "rhapsodyco" primer esfuerzo en solitario, aunque cambiando de registro hacia una temática más cósmica, es igual, la base power sinfónica está presente en ambas obras y el filo compositivo también. Como decía al comienzo en el single de adelanto "Demonheart" incluyó algún tema que no aparecería en el posterior álbum, como es el caso de este "Black realms majesty" del que quiero hoy dejar un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Manowar - Call To Arms

CALL  TO  ARMS

Poco ya que decir de Manowar, su mito y cifras hablan por ellos, más de 10 millones de discos vendidos hablan de una superbanda, y atendiendo a su discografía no se puede decir otra cosa, pues en ella encontramos temas memorables y discos irrepetibles haciendo de ellos uno de los grandes a nivel mundial en la historia de nuestra música. Hoy voy a escoger otro tema de su novena obra de estudio, "Warriors of the world", de 2002, un discazo que vino al rescate de la banda tras 6 años de silencio tras el gran "louder than hell" de 1996. En "Warriors of the world" nos encontramos con unos Manowar renovados, que tras haber "ordeñado" indeciblemente la "vaca" de sus temas pasados, con dos recopilatorios consecutivos, "The kingdom of steel" y "Steel Warriors", ambos de 1998, un álbum en directo en 1999 con 4 singles (también en directo) "personalizados" para cuatro países diferentes, Francia, Alemania, Portugal y España, y la edición en 2000 del primero de sus vídeos de la saga "Hell on earth", que actualmente ya va por la parte 5, y que nos narra lo "True Metaleros" que son en sus actuaciones,etc, notaba la demanda por parte de sus fans de material nuevo y de calidad para no desengancharse del "carro" de los guerreros americanos. Y así, en 2002 graban este gran disco para seguir aumentando las hordas de seguidores y consolidar a los que sopesaban abandonar a los truemetaleros por excelencia, aburridos con tanto material repetido en forma de directos y recopilaciones, que no se me entienda mal, adoro la música de estos tíos, su actitud ultraheavy, pero realmente aburren con tanta historia paralela quemando tiempo que podría invertir en aumentar su leyenda en forma de nuevas obras...en fin quizá por ese motivo en 2003, DeMaio fundó su propio sello discográfico, de manera que fuesen absolutamente independientes de presiones ajenas a la banda, y porque no, para comerse así todo el pastel generado por la banda ellos solitos. Volviendo al disco que nos ocupa, grandes temas lo componen, y hoy quiero dejar en el blog otro de ellos,  "Call to arms",la primera declaración de intenciones de este disco,  tema potente al más puro estilo Manowar, True metal de primera, con doble ración de "Actitud", y es que hay que reconocer que cuando estos se lo proponen son imparables.
