LADY  TOOK  A  CHANCE 

Cuando una banda acierta, acierta, y eso precisamente hicieron los estadounidenses Vicious Rumors en 1988 a través de su segundo LP de estudio "Digital Dictator" todo un clásico actualmente, uno de esos discos sin descartes, una obra que les puso en el mapa y les elevaría más adelante hacia las alturas metálicas, una obra mucho más que recomendable, fundamental diría yo para hacerse una idea general del todo llamado Heavy Metal. En este año, en que la banda editará en agosto un nuevo LP "The Devil's Asylum" que será su décimo cuarto LP de estudio, es siempre buen momento para repasar su discografía, máxime con obras de la talla de este "Digital Dictator" del que dejo hoy en el blog su canción "Lady Took A Chance" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Vicious Rumors - Worlds And Machines

WORLDS  AND  MACHINES

Muchas son las canciones que puede uno destacar de esta obra, no solo para mí, el momento cumbre en la discografía de los estadounidenses Vicious Rumors, y esto lo considero así, por el momento de la banda y el momento del heavy metal como conjunto, era el momento de sacar una obra como esta, y era la formación prefecta de la banda para hacerlo, de hecho, en este disco se juntan y durante ocho años no cambian nada, solo la muerte del cantante Carl Albert cambiaría ese punto. El caso es que estamos ante un clásico, uno de esos discos que marcan a una banda como creadora de la obra, y a muchas otras como espejo en el que mirarse, "Digital Dictator" de 1988 merece el aura de obra de culto que ahora ostenta, y casi escogiendo cualquier tema puede quedar claro, hoy yo me he encaprichado de este "Worlds and machines" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Vicious Rumors - When Love Comes Down

 

WHEN  LOVE  COMES  DOWN

Retornando a la idea de ese momento dificil que el heavy metal como sonido en si mismo vivió a inicios de los 90, la irrupción de otros sonido mucho menos puristas, más sucietes, la evolución que el propio heavy metal había sufrido hacia los distintos nichos, y la sensación general de que lo mejor en ese sentido había ya pasado no fue algo en lo que los estadounidenses "Vicious Rumors" tuvieran en cuenta, editando en 1991 su cuarto LP de estudio en plena vena heavy, completamente clásico, sin inventos tanto en el sentido de intentar vender más adaptando su sonido a lo que se llevaba, como en el hecho de que se podría haber fechado el sonido facilmente cinco añoa atrás, y habernos quedado tan anchos. El caso es que como algunos otros, "Vicious Rumors" supo mantener el espíritu de la old school muy vivo en esos años tan complicados, y eso es muy de agradecer. Obra muy recomendable en su conjunto de la que hoy voy a dejar en el blog uno de sus temas, en concreto uno con una cierta vocación de medio tiempo, "When love comes down", de la que dejo un enlace a  youtube.

MARCH  OR  DIE

Si en la ecuación metemos una gran banda, la energía de un debut, una época dorada y un tema acojonante el resultado no puede ser otro que espectacular, como este "March or die", de Vicious Rumors, de su disco "Soldiers of the night" de 1985, una obra simplemente fundamental. Vicious Rumors se forma a comienzos de los 80 en una zona como la California Bay Area, tan prolífica en aquellos años y de la que salieron también en la misma época grupos como Exodus, Metallica o Death Angel, aunque Vicious Rumors estaba más encaminado al heavy metal de corte clásico con influencia speed, más que al thrash de las anteriormente citadas bandas. Se forma en 1979 y comienza a sacar demos en 1982. Su alma mater, uno de sus fundadores y su único miembro que aun sigue con la banda Geoff Thorpe, comenzó a editar material de estudio en 1985, llevando ya 12 discos hasta el momento de esta reseña, el último de ellos de este 2016. Vicious Rumors hacen, como digo, un power speed metal, que poco a poco ha ido rolando hacia el power sin más en sus últimas obras.Como decía los continuos cambios en su formación han podido contribuir a este leve cambio en su estilo, aunque la mano de Thorpe se ve claramente en su discografía. Ya con sus inicios con la obra "soldiers of the night" se crean una sólida reputación internacional que se ve refrendada en su aclamado "Digital dictator". La tercera de su discografía, de título homónimo al grupo "Vicious Rumors", de 1990, y que está enclavada en la que podríamos llamar época clásica del grupo que podría considerarse hasta 1994, con su quinta obra "Word of mouth", en que deben enfrentarse a la pérdida de su cantante Carl Albert, que hizo tales funciones desde 1986, y que murió en accidente de tráfico en 1995, teniendo que hacerse cargo del micrófono el propio Geoff Thorpe en su siguiente obra "something burning" de 1996, hasta que contratan los servicios de Brian O'connor desde 1997 hasta 2005. Cuatro obras más completan su discografía, "Warball" en 2006, "razorback killers" en 2011,  "Electric Punishment" de 2013, y el recién salido "Concussion Protocol" de este 2016, del que posiblemente pronto dejaré algo en el blog. Volviendo a su debut, "Soldiers of the night", de 1985, un debut absolutamente espectacular, compositivamente hablando, y dejando ya desde sus inicios el sello personal, marca de la casa de ese heavy metal made in Vicious Rumors. Para esta obra contaron con dos músicos extraordinarios que no seguirían en las próximas obras de la banda, se trata del vocalista Gary St, Pierre, a quien sustituye el gran y malogrado Carl Albert, seña de identidad vocal de la banda entre 1986 y 1995. También nos referíamos a otro músico de primer nivel en este primer disco, el genial guitarrista Vinnie Moore, que unido al también gran Geoff Thorpe (el genio tras la banda, en guitarra, composición y voz desde la muerte de Carl Albert) hacen de este disco una obra de obligatoria escucha.
