Gloryhammer - Pax Galactica

PAX  GALACTICA 

Ya son más de 13 años desde que se formase el por entonces proyecto Gloryhammer, en un debut que deslumbró a todo amante del power metal. Semejante impacto solo podía tratarse de una manera, dejar de ser proyecto puntual para transformarse en una banda a tiempo completo, desde ese debut otros cuatro LP's han demostrado que había potencial de sobra para alcanzar ese titulo de banda con todas las de la ley. En este 2026, este recien pasado 16 de octubre se ha publicado de forma oficial su quinto LP, "Space 1993 Wrath of Kor Virliath", con buena aceptación general de público y crítica, entre otros motivos por su capacidad para generar temas memorables como por ejemplo este "Pax Galactica" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

The Scepter - Taarakian Blood

TAARAKIAN  BLOOD 

Desde Canada, la enésima banda que se apunta a esto del heavy metal de la vieja escuela, al sonido clásico, en este caso también de reciente creación (2018) y que en este 2026 ven como se publica su debut en formato LP, son The Scepter. Vocalista femenina pero con una forma de interpretar absolutamente clásica. El citado debut lleva por título "Shadows in the tower", publicado el pasado 24 de julio y del que dejo hoy en el blog su canción "Taarakian Blood" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube de su lyric video oficial.

Gothic Knights - Up From The Ashes

UP  FROM  THE  ASHES 

Gothic Knights es una banda estadounidense de power metal, que se forma en 1990 y que desarrolla una carrera muy pausada desde el punto de vista de la publicación de material, hasta 2012, puesto que en ese ya más que respetable periodo de tiempo tan solo publican cuatro LP's de estudio, luego, sin separarse oficialmente no han vuelto a dar señales de actividad compositiva a pesar de permanecer en activo. Power metal un poco a medio camino entre lo que es una propuesta europea y la nativa de la banda americana, se ensalza su esfuerzo porque en esos años de mitad de los 90 y los 2000 este tipo de bandas casi solo aparecian en Europa, pero se les tilda de poco originales, sea como sea su sonido es disfrutable si lo tuyo es el power. De su tercer LP "Up from the ashes" de 2003 dejo hoy en el blog la canción que le da nombre y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Watcher - Sorceress

 

SORCERESS

  Desde Suecia, y solo viendo la estética de la portada uno ya puede imaginar de que va esta banda, heavy metal de la old school, otro grupo más de los que se suman a esa marea de nuevas bandas a la antigua usanza. Formados en 2023 el proyecto Watcher en sus inicios era uno de esos grupos unidos a un solo músico, a un solo nombre Viktor Gustafsson que se dedicó durante un par de años a publicar una serie de EP's mostrando su visión musical. En 2025 publicaba ya el EP "Chains of Crystal" siendo cuatro miembros en la banda, y en este 2026 toma forma su primer LP "Mistress of our time", como banda más standard en lo que a miembros se refiere, algo más realista si tu idea es presentar tu material en vivo y además desarrollar una carrera fuera de los estudios. Yngwie Malmsteen - Dark Ages

DARK  AGES 

Corría el año 1986 cuando Yngwie Malmsteen publicaba "Trilogy", su tercer LP de estudio en solitario, y a nivel personal una de esas obras que me deslumbraron en mi inicio metálico. Hablamos de uno de los mejores momentos del guitarrista, para mi gusto, de toda su carrera, una obra de solo 40 minutos pero absolutamente disfrutable que sacó lo mejor del artísta sin abusar demasiado del virtuosismo que le caracteriza. Con los hermanos Johansson (Jens y Anders) teclados y batería respectivamente y Mark Boals a la voz, la alineación solo podía deparar una obra de esas que envejecen bien, y que ganan enteros si cabe a medida que el tiempo la coloca en su sitio. Otro disco de los que sin duda terminaré trayendo al blog completo canción a canción porque lo merece. Hoy toca el turno de "Dark Ages", un poco a medio gas, medio tiempo, pesado y épico, de cadencia casi doom pero de heavy clásico, con aire oscuro y los destellos luminosos y técnicos de los punteos del maestro de la velocidad, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Grave Digger - My Private Morning Hell

MY  PRIVATE  MORNING  HELL 

Es muy de agradecer, que cuando una banda hace algún tipo de recopilatorio, introduzca alguna canción nueva o inédita hasta ese momento, y seamos sinceros, de esa forma además, se incentiva la compra de algo tan potencialmente vendible por un lado y tan delicado por otra, se capta a esos fans más puntuales que así encuentran ese material original más selecto, y se "obliga" a los fans de toda la vida o más fieles, a volver a comprar material original que ya tienen pero con la excusa de tener el nuevo tema o nuevos temas también en un formato oficial. The Headless Ghost - Legacy Of The Dead

LEGACY  OF  THE  DEAD 

Segundo LP de los italianos The Headless Ghost a la vista, llevará por título "Legacy of the dead" y verá la luz de manera oficial el mes de noviembre de este 2026. Si ya te encontraste con esta banda en su debut de 2024 "King Of Pain", ya sabrás que estamos ante una banda que comenzó sus días como tributo de Kind Diamond para adentrarse en la composición de sus propios discos con el inicio de la década. El sonido, pues, la estética y el concepto general de la banda queda claro, con una calidad también de su lado. De este nuevo disco dejan su adelanto homónimo al título de la obra del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Virgin Steele - Veni Vidi Vici

VENI  VIDI  VICI 

Sin ningún lugar a dudas, los estadounidenses Virgin Steele son otro de esos grupos que te dan la sensación, atendiendo a su carrera al completo, de que no se les ha hecho justicia en lo que a reconocimiento general se refiere, otro de esos grupos más grandes de lo que sus cifras puedan hacer pensar, y es que la aceptación masiva de todos los metalheads siempre les ha sido esquiva. Igualmente no creo que nadie a estas alturas dude de su calidad ni de su importancia histórica dentro de nuestro sonido, lo tienen todo, la personalidad, la historia, la discografía (extensa) e incluso la influencia sobre otros grupos. En marcha desde 1981, 17 LP's de estudio (a fecha de esta reseña) y un sonido, en ocasiones algo elaborado, seguramente siendo más "simples" pudieran haber alcanzado mayores cotas de popularidad, pero esa complejidad compositiva por encima de la media es una importante parte de su identidad que conservan y deben conservar. En 1998 publicaban "Invictus", octavo disco de la banda, del que dejo hoy en el blog el tema que lo cierra, "Veni vidi vici" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Crystal Eyes - Kids Of Rock 'N' Roll

KIDS  OF  ROCK 'N 'ROLL 

Que buena pinta tiene, a juzgar por los adelantos, la novena obra de estudio de los suecos Crystal Eyes, que se publicará de forma oficial el día 30 de este mes de octubre. Es una pena que la banda no haya tenido mayor continuidad compositiva pero a veces el precio de hacer buenos discos pasa por una maduración de los mismos, quizá siete años sea demasiado pero si el fruto final es bueno, bienvenido sea. El segundo adelanto de la nueva obra "Thunder God" lleva por título "Kids of rock'n'roll" y de el dejo hoy un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Gwydion - Math Of War

MATH  OF  WAR 

Los portugueses Gwydion son otra banda de las que han escogido un sendero dentro del death melódico con tintes folk, de innegable vocación épica y con una trayectoria detrás más larga de lo que sus cuatro LP's publicados, (a fecha de esta reseña), podrían hacer pensar. La banda de hecho se forma en 1995 pero hasta mitad de los 2000 no comienzan a publicar material en formato LP. La tercera de sus obras es "Veteran" de 2013, según la crítica con un giro más hacia el heavy metal pero sin dejar en absoluto ese sonido death melódico y sus rasgos folklóricos. Aeon Gods - Feather Of Heart

FEATHER  OF  HEART 

Siempre hay bandas que parecen llegar desde su inicio con el favor de crítica y fans, grupos que por otra parte desde el primer momento han mostrado la calidad en la que se apoya dicho favor, pero que parecen muy pronto ser más grandes de lo que su discografía objetivamente les ha dado tiempo a mostrar. Los alemanes Aeon Gods son uno de estos casos, formados en 2022, en este 2026 han publicado su segundo LP "Reborn to light". Siempre dentro del power, de corte europeo, con tintes sinfónicos, arreglos y una impecable producción, tiene el grupo esa capacidad para enganchar al oyente desde el inicio, de ofrecer algo por una parte predecible pero por otra magnificamente ejecutado, un argumento más que suficiente para acercarse a su propuesta. Armory - Inner Sanctum

INNER  SANCTUM 

Vamos con una banda estadounidense con la que la idea de su breve periodo de existencia y la brevedad de su discografía alcanzan unas cotas casi de dramatismo atendiendo a la endiablada calidad que atesoran, son, o fueron Armory, formados en 2001 y separados tras la publicación de su segundo LP de estudio "Emyrean Realms" de 2013 el discazo que hoy vuelvo a traer al blog, un ejercicio de power melódico al tiempo que con unos grandes rasgos progresivos y una absoluta calidad en todos los puestos, un disco que sorprende verdaderamente que fuese el punto final para esta banda. Merece la pena dedicarle 50 minutos a esta obra porque seguro que no serán los últimos que le dediques. Angus McSix - The Power Of Metal

THE  POWER  OF  METAL 

Cuando se le quita seriedad y drama a nuestro sonido, (algo que no todo el mundo encaja bien), surgen bandas como Angus McSix, que entre broma y broma, deja clara la calidad, que no esta en absoluto reñida una cosa con la otra. Si a todo esto añadimos músicos de primer orden, (ahora me refiero sobre todo por Sebastian Levermann) el coctel es suficientemente atractivo como para tomarse muy en serio a esta banda "de broma". El segundo disco de la banda, "And the all seeing astral eye", fue publicado en marzo, y de él quiero dejar en el blog la canción "The power of metal" con colaboración de Freedom Call, de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

DESCENDANTS  OF  THE  SUN 

Vuelta al death melódico, en este caso germano a través de la banda Nothgard, un grupo con un periodo de existencia ya considerable (desde 2009) y que sin embargo tampoco es que haya publicado excesivo material en función de esos años de actividad, (solo cuatro LP's y un EP). En 2016 publicaban su tercer larga duración "The sinner's sake" del que quiero dejar hoy otra de sus canciones "Descendants of the sun" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Power Paladin - The Arcane Tower

THE  ARCANE  TOWER 

Ya desde su debut de 2022 la banda islandesa Power Paladin nos hizo la promesa de ser una de las nuevas sensaciones de europower, un deslumbrante debut lleno de temas con gancho que cumplieron perfectamente su cometido "pescando" a cientos de fans. En este 2026 tocaba mostrar a la escena internacional en donde se encuentra la propuesta de la banda, hacia donde avanza su carrera, y nos han mostrado su segundo disco "Beyond The Reach Of Enchantment", más maduro, con menos "ganchos" quizá, pero dandonos esa seguridad de la carrera que si todo va bien vendrá por parte de estos islandeses. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog otra de sus canciones, "The arcane tower", con Tommy Johansson como colaboración de lujo en el tema, y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Metal Law - Hellride Of Steel

HELLRIDE  OF  STEEL 

Los alemanes Metal Law son el enésimo grupo que trata de mantener el espíritu clásico del heavy metal de la vieja escuela pero en este siglo XXI, formados en 2006 la banda ha publicado tan solo tres LP's de estudio muy espaciados, y a pesar de teoricamente seguir en activo actualmente desde 2016 no publican material de estudio, toda una década ya. El tercero y a fecha de esta reseña último trabajo fue "Hellrider", para amantes del sonido purista de la vieja escuela, quizá predecible pero igualmente disfrutable si lo tuyo es este tipo de sonido. Grave Digger - The Number

THE  NUMBER 

Incombustibles quizá sea el apelativo que mejor defina a este tipo de bandas en general, pertenecientes a la vieja guardia, inquebrantables a pesar de las épocas, y a Greve Digger en particular, con camino ya de cinco décadas de actividad y que en 2027 publicarán ya su vigésimo segundo disco de estudio en formato LP, que llevará por título "Faces Of Pain" ycuya fecha oficial de publicación será el 15 de enero. Parecen reafirmar la idea de su vuelta a un sonido más heavy metal puro, de la vieja escuela, idea que venían certificando en sus últimas obras, y que puede comprobarse en su adelanto "The number" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Kambrium - Dewfall

 

DEWFALL 

Un poquito de death melódico para hoy, de otra de esas bandas que nunca han saltado a la primera línea de popularidad internacional lo que no quita para que resulte una gran idea acercarse a su discografía, son los alemanes Kambrium. Formados en 2005, la banda ha publicado, a fecha de esta reseña, un total de 5 LP's de estudio a los que añadir un EP. Su último trabajo se remonta a 2021, ya de nuevo un lustro sin publicar material nuevo, es sin duda una de esas bandas que van a su propio ritmo. En 2011 el grupo publicaba su primer trabajo en formato LP, "Shadowpath" del que quiero hoy dejar en el blog una de sus canciones, "Dewfall" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Unchained Vengeance - The Whisper Of Sorrowsbane

THE  WHISPER  OF  SORROWSBANE 

Nuevo proyecto estadounidense que en esté 2026 verá como se publica su debut, se trata de Unchained Vengeance, en donde se unen las fuerzas de dos músicos, el cantante Nick Courtney y el músico multiinstrumentista Nick Wusz, quienes enfocan su proyecto desde un punto de vista de heavy metal, a juzgar por su adelanto "The whisper of sorrowsbane", en momentos casi doom, en otros con un innegable aire true, rozando muchas cosas, incluso vocalmente hablando un tanto Dickinsonniano. Gloryhammer - The Hollywood Hootsman

THE  HOLLYWOOD  HOOTSMAN 

En 2013 la irrupción del por entonces proyecto paralelo Gloryhammer del alma mater de Alestorm Chis Bowes, pilló a la escena internacional por sorpresa, poniendo el foco directamente sobre su debut y despertando unas enormes y merecidas expectativas ante lo que podía venir, si bien la fórmula no resultaba en absoluto novedosa, la magnitud de debut fue suficiente para dicha repercusión. En 2015 la confirmación y reafirmación del proyecto dejaba claro que había muchas papeletas para que se perpetuase como grupo a tiempo completo, y así fue. El segundo disco, como siempre sucede tras los debuts deslumbrantes, tenía la dificil misión de dar continuidad y cumplir las altas expectativas, y así fue.
