Gloryhammer - On A Quest For Aberdeen - Canciones Para Una Vida

ON  A  QUEST  FOR  ABERDEEN 

Desde su último LP en 2023 "return of the kingdom of Fife" los escoceses Gloryhammer han editado un single "individual" por año, y en este 2025 el tema es "On a quest for Aberdeen" que hoy quiero dejar en el blog. Parece que el proyecto, ya banda por méritos propios, no se ha resentido de la salida de su anterior cantante y con el nuevo "Angus McFife" parecen seguir produciendo canciones de primer nivel que en breve esperemos sean el preludio de una nueva obra, por el momento dejo un enlace a youtube de este "On a quest for Aberdeen".

HE  HAS  RETURNED

Nuevo ejercicio de reciclaje, de mantenimiento en la escena internacional, de seguir permaneciendo a la vista de todos a ser posible con el menor esfuerzo posible y en contrapartida con el mejor resultado, y en esto los escoceses Gloryhammer son bastante expertos, un nuevo single, deslumbrante, enganchón, visualmente impecable reciclando partes antes compuestas y versionando otro par de temas propios para empaquetarlo y venderlo en estas fechas tan señaladas, que no se me interprete mal, me parece perfecto, cada uno debe "ordeñar la vaca" mientras siga teniendo leche, ahora, poco aportará este single "He has returned" a una presentación en vivo de la banda en futuros conciertos, por lo demás un tema que enseguida tararearás, con sello de la banda, tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su visual clip oficial.

Que dados son estos tios a poner títulos largos a sus temas, siempre flirteando con esa actitud jocosa, e igualmente haciendolo con un toque electrónico, lo que en absoluto quita para esa sensación de que tengan una gran facilidad para hacer temas fáciles de archivar en la cabeza. Este cuarto LP de la banda lleva por título "Return of the kingdom of Fife", salido a primeros de junio, quizá también en reacción al material publicado por Angus McSix, como mencionaba en la anterior entrada. "Holy flaming hammer of unholy cosmic frost", aunque pueda parecer la letra completa de la canción, solo es el título del segundo adelanto del nuevo disco de los escoceses "Gloryhammer" para primeros del mes que viene, y es que la banda ya nos tiene acostumbrados a ese concepto a medio camino entre la teatralidad y el esperpento en lo que a líricas e imagen se refiere, todo ello envuelto en un lustroso power metal de corte europeo, y tendencia sinfónica y melódica, algo que parece perpetuarse en esta nueva obra en la que el cmbio de vocalista no será en absoluto una escusa para que sus seguidores les puedan dar la espalda. KEEPER  OF  THE  CELESTIAL  FLAME  OF  ABERNETHY

Hace poco me refería al clásico tema recurrente de la salida de un miembro de una banda y de la creación de otra por parte de este en un sentido clónico, y de esas interacciones posteriores entre ambas bandas, casi de vigilancia para tratar de demostrar quien es el auténtico, o el que llevaba razón, la verdad es que es un tema que objetivamente resulta infantil, pero si, independientemente de quien pueda llevar más razón, el asunto se rodea con calidad, termina siendo algo bueno para el fan que encuentra dos propuestas similares y por lo tanto dos discos por uno. Este caso se da de nuevo con "Angus McSix" Y "Gloryhammer" quienes ahora contraatacan con su cuarto LP "Return to the kingdom of Fife" que vera la luz en junio, y que en estos días nos deja su primer single "Keeper of the celestial flame of Abernethy", donde el nuevo cantante Sozos Michael se desenvuelve perfectamente dejando claro que para la banda ese no será un problema, single del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

FLY  AWAY

Nuevo single del proyecto-banda Gloryhammer tras el que como todos sabemos está la figura de Christopher Bowes de Alestorm. Muy acorde a los tiempos que corren la banda pone el caramelo en la boca sin desvelar nada de un nuevo hipotético LP, ni fechas ni títulos, solo el cebo para las proximas giras que la banda hará a nivel europeo. Sea como sea la ocasión muestra el cambio de cantante la salida del suizo Thomas Winkler a quien toma el relevo el chipriota Sozos Michael quien ha formado parte anteriormente de Hellion Prime como banda más reconocida. En ese aspecto no parece una mala elección a juzgar por el single que hoy nos ocupa, "Fly Away" el cual por otra parte goza de las virtudes compositivas del estilo Gloryhammer, así que la banda promete seguir en plena forma para los capitulos venideros. GLORYHAMMER  - LEGENDS FROM THE GALACTIC TERRORVORTEX  - (2019)

Los escoceses "Gloryhammer" son un buen ejemplo de eso que tantas veces sucede en las bandas en general, la busqueda que alguno de sus miembros hace en ocasiones de un escape de la citada banda para dar salida a otra vertiente compositiva que puede considerar que no tiene cabida en el material acostumbrado, generando así la posibilidad de crear una banda nueva, que en ocasiones se perpetúa, y porque no en ocasiones supera a la propia banda original. Muchos son los casos a lo largo de la historia metálica, y los que vendrán. Gloryhammer como muchos sabrán nace de dicha necesidad, de la de Christopher Bowes de Alestorm de crear este material en una onda más power, más sinfonica, y con un enfoque claramente menos piratesco. El primer y excelente album deslumbró a muchos, poniendo por ejemplo en el mapa musical al cantante Thomas Winkler por su enorme capacidad vocal, hasta ese momento en bandas muy poco conocidas, y quien por cierto, desde este 2021 no consta como cantante oficial de esta banda, veremos lo que esto termina significando. El caso es que gloryhammer ha grabado ya tres LP's de estudio, (2013, 2015 y 2019). Hoy quiero dejar en el blog el artwork de la tercera de sus obras, "Legends from the galactic Terrorvortex", como es costumbre para la banda dibujada por Dan Goldsworthy, otro dibujante asiduo de material metálico para bandas de renombre internacional, tales como Alestorm, Hell, Accept, Cradle Of Filth, etc, por citar los más conocidos, seguro que volveré a dejar alguna más de sus magníficas obras en el blog más adelante.

Gloryhammer se ha convertido en una cita ineludible, dentro del power internacional, con cada nueva obra que edita, y este 2019 ha sido la fecha escogida por la banda para editar su tercer ya LP de estudio, el asentamiento definitivo de este grupo surgido como proyecto paralelo y, como digo, asentado ya en banda duradera. Como es de esperar y tradicional en el grupo estamos ante un power metal lleno de matices y adornos, con montones de complementos y gran filo en muchas de sus composiciones, algo que hará las delicias de quien guste del subgénero y que suele ser un acierto a la hora de vender mejor, así al gran público. Otro de los temas con vocación de single de esta tercera obra, "legends from beyond the galactic terrorvortex", es "The land of unicorns", canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube de su Lyric video oficial.

HOOTSFORCE

Nuevo vistazo al tercer trabajo de los escoceses "Gloryhammer", "Legends from the galactic terrorvortex", del presente 2019, un disco, que tras una escucha detallada, no hace sino confirmar las espectativas, dentro del estilo escogido, muy en la línea de lo anteriormente publicado, pero que al mismo tiempo muestra un estancamiento que hace que pierda ese "punch" inicial que sobre todo cosechase con su primer LP "Tales from the kingdom of Fife", allá por 2013. Que no se me interprete mal, dentro de lo que hacen son absolutamente pulcros, con melodías enganchonas, pero con sorpresa cero respecto a lo que puede esperarse y sinceramente con temas con menos filo, en mi humilde opinión, a medida que avanza su carrera. De todas maneras, merece la pena darle unas escuchas a la obra que si hará disfrutar, a pesar de lo previsible, a los amantes del género power. Una de las virtudes compositivas de este grupo es esa sensación de continuidad entre uno y otro disco, que una vez más parece tener continuidad con este primer adelanto de la que será, como digo, tercera obra de la banda, "Legends from beyond the galactic terrorvortex" que verá la luz de manera oficial a finales del próximo mes de mayo del presente 2019. A juzgar por lo escuchado en este adelanto titulado "Gloryhammer" , más de lo mismo, con todas las virtudes de este power metal de manual que realiza esta banda, muy para los amantes del género, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

QUESTLORDS  OF  INVERNESS

 Otro de los temas del segundo LP editado por la banda paralela a Alestorm, llamada Gloryhammer, del compositor y teclista Christopher Bowes es este "Questlords of Inverness, ride to the galactic fortress", una canción que sigue esa propuesta que en su momento desarrollase tan bien Rhapsody y Luca Turilli en su material en solitario, ese metal sinfónico, desde luego plagado de arreglos para una base power mucho más pomposa y brillante, envuleta en un sonido lleno de detalles y de producción impecable, que igualmente choca de forma directa con el concepto clásico de los amantes del heavy de toda la vida, del metal head amante del sonido old school. Y es que nos encontramos con tantos arreglos que los defensores del voz, guitarra bajo y batería ven una especie de traición a los autenticos orígenes del sonido. Sin embargo, los amantes del sonido power noventero y de cambio de siglo ven en este nicho sonoro una culminación en que todo adorno épico ayuda a una atmósfera general llena de fuerza. Sea como sea es cuestión de gustos, pero una vez más de lo que no hay duda es de la calidad de los músicos aquí implicados. Tras la ya evidente zozobra de la escisión total de Rhapsody, y la falta absoluta de timón en el trabajo de Turilli, parece que Gloryhammer apuesta fiuerte por abanderar ese tipo de sonido confirmando en su segundo esfuerzo musical la propuesta que ya hicieran en el primero. WIZARDS

Muchas veces podemos intuir, además de por otros muchos motivos, la grandeza de una banda o de un músico por la grandeza de los "descartes" musicales que hacen en una obra, esos temas que supuestamente se meten como bonus track después, también en ocasiones para vender más discos a los fans que siguen comprando discos y que deciden pagar un poco más cara una edición especial por ese tipo de cosas. Pues bien, Christopher Bowes, la mente tras Gloryhammer, (y Alestorm), se ha marcado en su debut con esta banda uno de esos "descartes" que ya quisieran muchas bandas tener como tema fuerte en una obra, y es que este disco sigue resultandome increible, el mejor de sus dos obras hasta la fecha de esta reseña, y este "Wizards" bien merece sin duda pagar un par de Euros más por la edición que la incluya, un tema corto pero directo y del que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

VICTORIOUS  EAGLE  WARFARE

Gloryhammer es un proyecto del cantante, compositor y teclista de la banda escocesa Alestorm Christopher Bowes, un proyecto encaminado mas hacia el power metal saliéndose del sonido folk pirata de su banda madre y acercándose para mi gusto al sonido de discos como el primero en solitario de Luca Turilli. Ya hemos hablado en el blog de su disco debut del que dejamos hace meses un tema , y hoy quiero traer su segundo LP, "Space 1992: Rise of the chaos wizards", un disco al que aún debo alguna escucha más en profundidad pero que descaradamente sigue las lineas generales de su anterior "Tales from the kingdom of Fife", aunque con una temática diferente pasando del ambiente lírico medieval al futurista y espacial escenario de turno, un cambio un tanto osado en lo que a estética se refiere, que no tanto a su sonido. Como antes decía referente al sonido que me recuerda al primer material de Luca Turilli, incluso si nos ponemos a mirar la segunda obra del guitarrista italiano en solitario vemos que este también salto de un medievo fantástico propio de sus compañeros "Rhapsody" en su primera obra, a un escenario espacial en la segunda.... parece un espejo en el que se esté mirando el bueno de Christopher Bowes, siguiendo la estela dejada hace ya década y media por Turilli.... si así fuese esperemos que se ponga a mirar hacia otro lugar viendo la deriva que el trabajo del guitarrista transalpino ha tomado desde los últimos 6 o 7 años, y que tampoco ese camino le lleve, (como si que hizo Turilli con Rhapsody), a abandonar a su banda madre Alestorm, sinceramente no creo... y espero... En definitiva vemos una linea musical muy en sintonía con su anterior y bastante bien tratado por crítica y público "Tales from the kingdom of Fife". Hoy quiero dejar otro de los temas de esta obra, "Space 1992: Rise of the chaos wizards", de este 2015, concretamente "Victorious Eagle Warfare", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Gloryhammer - Magic Dragon

MAGIC  DRAGON

Ya he hablado de esta banda escocesa en el blog en otras ocasiones, el proyecto del teclista, compositor y cantante de Alestorm, Christopher Bowes, en esta onda totalmente diferente al sonido que desarrolla con su banda madre como ya he dicho en otras de las entradas de la banda en el blog. Con la publicación de su segunda obra han dejado demostrado que en principio, y tras la buena acogida que ha tenido la banda en general, que el proyecto se ha consolidado, con como digo un segundo disco que ha ido en un concepto musical similar al de este su debut, aunque con una temática diferente, aunque he de decir que me inclino más por este primer LP "Tales from the kingdom of Fife" de 2013 que por el "Space 1992::Rise of the chaos wizards", considerando las obras en su conjunto, y como ya me he referido a ellos en anteriores ocasiones solo quiero pues dejar el tema que hoy quiero recomendar en el blog, uno de los que más me gustan de este disco, "Magic dragon", de fácil melodía y enganchón desde el principio, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

El tema en cuestión es este "Legend of the astral hammer" del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube. Por cierto, el crecimiento de la banda se hace también, patente en la gira que van a hacer por Europa al lado de nada menos que Stratovarius, y que les traerá por ejemplo a España la última semana de Octubre.
