DEFENDERS  OF  METAL 

Los germanos Wizard, para inicios de los 2000 seguían apuntando a una suerte de heavy metal clásico unido a una actitud true metalera con todos los clichés de ambas perspectivas, y en 2001 publicaban su cuarto LP de estudio "Head of the deceiver". Todo queda ya plasmado en su portada, estaba claro que habían tomado el sendero "manowaristico" y su ritmo compositivo era alto, cuatro discos entre 1995 y 2001. Volviendo a esta cuarta obra de estudio, quiero hoy dejar en el blog otro de sus ejercicios de defensa del "metal" con actitud, ya desde el propio título se dice todo, "defenders of metal" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Wizard - Angel Of Death

ANGEL  OF  DEATH 

Vamos ahora con los veteranos alemanes Wizard, otra banda de las que quedan relegadas a un segundo plano a pesar de la ya extensa discografía que arrastran a sus espaldas y que está llena de momentos como mínimo resultones, quizá no sea una banda de discos completos que pueda llegar a hacerse un tanto monótonos, pero si encontramos canciones destacables en todas sus doce obras en formato LP que de momento, a fecha de esta reseña, constituyen su discografía. Ya llevan en silencio compositivo desde 2021, buen momento para repasar alguna de sus obras, por ejemplo la décima de ellas, "Trail of death" de 2013, y de la que dejo hoy en el blog su cancioón "Angel of death" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Wizard - Years Of War

 

YEARS  OF  WAR

Es increible como muchas bandas de las que no han saltado a la primera fila de reconocimiento o éxito, persisten en su propuesta, a pesar de los pesares, y terminan por tener una larga carrera llena de obras, un buen ejemplo es el de los germanos "Wizard", grupo que lleva en activo desde 1989, de forma ininterrumpida, y en la que han editado ya un total de 12 LP's de estudio de un heavy metal crudo, que flirtea con sonidos power y épicos, pero al modo true, de hecho muchos los han comparado desde el inicio con Manowar y sin duda en muchos aspectos está totalmente justificada esa comparación. El décimo segundo LP de la banda se titula "Metal in my head" y redunda en todo lo dicho, de hecho en muchos sentidos en un pequeño giro hacia sus propios inicios. Editado en 2021, las eñas de identidad de la banda están intactas, buen ejemplo es el tema que hoy dejo en el blog, "Years of war" con esos coros épicos, y esa melodía que se repite a lo largo y ancho del tema quedandose de manera peremne en tu cabeza, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Wizard - We Are The Masses

WE  ARE  THE  MASSES

Retomo la senda "true" con la nueva obra de los alemanes "Wizard", de título "Fallen kings" en el que supone ya su undécimo disco de estudio en una carrera que comenzase en 1989 y que siempre ha sido marcada por ese concepto épico muy en la onda Manowar y que en este nuevo disco continua, como puede apreciarse ya desde la propia portada. En realidad esta es una de esas bandas en las que se aprecia evidentemente un "estancamiento" sonoro y compositivo, vamos, que por lo general siempre suenan igual, con lo bueno y lo malo que tal cuestión presupone, luego solo queda que la obra que toca te llegue más o menos porque en general el concepto lírico musical siempre será muy similar. Tampoco quiero que esto sea una crítica, pues en más de una ocasión he criticado que las bandas evoluciones hasta posiciones musicales en que apenas se reconozcan sus inicios, sobre todo si estos fueron buenos, pero igualmente un estancamiento excesivo puede aburrir a la mayoría, por eso es tan complicado acertar con el equilibrio. Desde luego esta obra va en la linea de la banda, un pelín flojo en su conjunto en mi humilde opinión, pero 100% en la linea de lo esperable, como ejemplo este "We are the masses" con ese "tufillo" inconfundible "Manowarero", que para que negarlo, a mi tanto me gusta.

Canciones para una vida - Wizard - The Powergod

THE POWERGOD

Wizard son una banda alemana de Power Metal con una clara vocación épica y truemetalera. Formados en 1989 han tenido una actividad continuada hasta nuestros días habiendo editado 10 discos de estudio durante ese tiempo. Funcionan con demos hasta 1995, año en el que editan su primer larga duración titulado "Son of Darkness". Su última obra es de 2013, "Trail of death", y se puede decir que durante toda su trayectoria han sido bastante fieles a su estilo y han tenido la épica musical como objetivo, de hecho siempre se ha hecho un paralelismo con Manowar al hablar de ellos como la respuesta alemana a ese megagrupo, sobre todo si atendemos a la lírica de sus canciones que casi siempre versan sobre batallas, acero, guerras o la propia música metal, a pesar de ello en alguna ocasión han hecho algún álbum conceptual, como "Odin" del que hoy quiero dejar una canción en el blog, del año 2003 en que el hilo argumental es evidentemente el dios nórdico. La banda tiene bastante más calidad de la que sus ventas o fama dicen, habiendo siempre estado en sellos de primera linea como "Limb Music", o "Massacre Records", pero a pesar de ello no han dado nunca el salto a la primera linea del heavy internacional. Como decía antes, hoy quiero dejar una canción de su quinto disco de estudio, "Odin", de 2003, con esa dedicación al dios nórdico Odin, un buen disco en conjunto del que hoy voy a destacar el tema, "The Powergod", del que dejo un enlace a youtube. Volveremos en alguna otra ocasión a esta banda más adelante.
