Stratovarius - Galaxies - Canciones Para Una Vida

 

GALAXIES 

Los finlandeses Stratovarius son una de esas bandas tan amadas como criticadas, siempre demasiado expuestos a las más variopintas opiniones, pero innegablemente son uno de los pioneros del auge y explosión del power finlandés de los noventa y los 2000, una banda demasiado importante como para no tenerla en cuenta pienses lo que pienses sobre ellos, luego, la evolución de su carrera les ha hecho propietarios de nuevas críticas, salidas de músicos como Tolkki o variaciones en sus conceptos... lo dicho, sujetos a tan enorme exposición muchas veces injusta, como suele ser el caso en estas circunstancias. En 1995 editaban su tercer LP de estudio "Fourth Dimension" el primero con Kotipelto a la voz, que sirve para terminar de explotar a nivel internacional antes de reinar unos años en el trono de los reyes del europower, de este disco dejo hoy en el blog su canción "Galaxies" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Blind Guardian - I'm Alive - Canciones Para Una Vida

I'M  ALIVE

Bien pudiesen los germanos Blind Guardian, haber esgrimido esa afirmación "I'm Alive" en aquel ya lejano 1995, para erigirse en uno de los adalides del por entonces en horas bajas heavy metal como tal, siendo uno de los defensores del concepto, un tanto powerizado eso sí, en la década de los noventa. Se trata del impresionante y fundamental "Imaginations from the other side" un discazo se mire por donde se mire y del que quiero hoy dejar en el blog otra de sus canciones, la citada "I'm alive", trallazo del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Iron Maiden - Sign Of The Cross

SIGN  OF  THE  CROSS

Hoy traigo al blog uno de esos discos de los que todo el mundo tiene una opinión, es una obra que claramente separa épocas en una banda y si añadimos que esa banda es la banda entra las bandas metálicas, es decir Iron Maiden, pues claro, siempre todo el mundo ha opinado y lo hará con mayor o menor justicia. Yo solo quiero hoy intentar abordar la obra desde un punto de vista lo más aséptico posible, constatando hechos más que opiniones. El primer hecho innegable es la salida de Dickinson en 1993 de Maiden y la llegada de un nuevo vocalista a la banda para esta obra, Blaze Bayley, como mínimo un tío valiente para meterse en esos zapatos. Otro hecho es la época, hablamos de ese momento de los noventa en que todo seguía cambiando en la escena metálica, sobre todo si enfocabas tu sonido al sonido heavy metal clásico. Otra cuestión era crear un sucesor para "Fear of the dark", y mostrar la senda que la banda tomaría en adelante ya que cada vez más criticados por los seguidores de siempre el grupo sentía seguramente esa presión. Además las composiciones se veían afectadas por el estado de ánimo de Steve Harris que atravesaba por un divorcio. Todo ello puede enmarcar un poco tanto a la obra en sí, desde la composición más oscura, hasta estéticamente la portada sin un Eddie clásico digamos, un Eddie de Derek Riggs. Pero lo que es innegable, y en este punto estamos entrando en lo opinable, es que la obra tiene momentos muy destacables, sin ir más lejos el tema que la abre, "Sign of the cross", y del que dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Kingdom Come - Twilight Cruiser

TWILIGHT  CRUISER

Vamos hoy con una banda clásica, un grupo con un sonido siempre asociado al hard rock pero que en no pocas ocasiones ha sabido caminar por la delgada línea que separa el heavy metal del hard rock, ese concepto tan ochentero del hard ' n heavy. Formados en 1987, en Alemania la banda ha desarrollado una carrera fructifera y larga con grandes discos y temas que han alcanzado en gran medida el éxito internacional, sobre todo en la parte inicial de su carrera, siempre viene a la cabeza su LP "In your face" de 1989. Siempre les ha acompañado una cierta polémica por la comparación que se les hizo desde el inicio con la banda Led Zeppelin, algo que en algún momento ellos negaron y se transformó en una especie de bola de nieve que les acompañó toda su carrera. Han editado un total de trece LP's de estudio entre 1987 y 2013 y hoy quiero dejar una de esas canciones especiales de la banda, el tema que dio nombre a su quinta obra "Twilight Cruiser" de 1995 y del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Dragonfly - Bullets And Bones

BULLETS  AND  BONES

hablando de bandas que se quedaron en el camino, tan solo en una fracción de lo que podrían haber llegado a ser, traigo hoy al blog a los alemanes "Dragonfly", un grupo a mitad de camino entre el heavy metal y el hard rock, que desarrollo su carrera en la dificil década de los 90 si tu intención compositiva es la del sonido clásico. Tocaba reinventarse, y muhcas bandas tiraron hacia el sonido hard rockero americano, otros limpiaron su estilo para acercarse al power y muchos senderos nuevos nacian de entrecruzar caminos, pero algunos mantenían su mirada en el estilo clásico, lo que si no eras una banda puntera te condenaba un poco al anonimato. Como digo Dragonfly bebia de fuentes clasicas en una suerte de hard 'n heavy de regusto ochentero pero en los 90. En 1995 editaban su segundo disco de estudio de los tres que conforman su discografía, y deél quiero dejar en el blog la canción que le da nombre, "Bullets and bones" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Running Wild - Lions Of The Sea

 

LIONS  OF  THE  SEA

Volvamos a uno de los estandartes que en la primera parte de la década de los 90 se mantuvieron firmes en el espíritu clásico, uno de esos no muchos que supieron mantenerse fieles a las raices, al sonido que les hizo grandes y reconocibles, una década complicada para el heavy metal, con las multiples evoluciones, los cambios e influencias o la "extremización", sea como fuere, Running Wild en los 90 parió algunos de sus mejores LP's manteniendo ese hilo de vida de la escena del heavy metal, uno de los que contribuyeron a no dejarlo morir para que renaciese luego con más fuerza casi casi. En 1995, a la banda le tocaba dar continuidad al enorme "Black hand inn", a nivel personal uno de los discos de mi vida, y claro, no resultaba fácil, sin embargo "Masquerade" es un digno sucesor, seguramente tendría mejores sensaciones si no le hubiese tocaso suceder a aquel, pero tomado como obra en si misma es absolutamente "Runningwildesco", como por ejemplo en el tema "Lions of the sea" del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Nocturnal Rites - Winds Of Death

 

WINDS  OF  DEATH 

Una de las bandas más respetables dentro del power metal de corte europeo, una de las primeras en practicarlo abiertamente antes de nombres más respetados, o reconocidos, y es que "Nocturnal Rites", siempre destacó por su calidad, sobre todo en los inicios, llevando el nombre de la escuela sueca siempre hacia arriba. El inicio a nivel demos y maquetas fue curiosamente orientado al death metal, aunque desde su primer trabajo, "In a time of blood and fire" se decantaron por el europower abiertamente, y en esos primeros años demostraron que el futuro de su escena sueca y del subgénero que explotaba en ese instante estaban asegurados. Este primer LP es de 1995, como decía antes del desarrollo de nombres como Hammerfall y otros, sin embargo su reconocimiento siempre se ha quedado demasiado lejos respecto a sus méritos. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de los temas de su magnífico debut, concretamente la canción "Winds of death" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Lanzer - Gods Of War

 

GODS  OF  WAR

Segundo y último trabajo en formato LP editado por los alemanes "Lanzer", un grupo que siempre se dedicó al heavy metal con guiños hard n' heavy. El citado segundo trabajo en largo formato llevó por título "Under a different sky" editado en 1995, un tanto tardío para una propuesta que como digo versa estilísticamente en un heavy metal de corte clásico aunque la portada pudiese sugerir un power o heavy power más acorde a la época y que aquí no se dá. De todas maneras es un material interesante, que una vez más habla de una carrera que puiese haber ofrecido más longevidad y sobre todo más productividad, pero tras esta obra nada más se ha sabido del grupo en lo referente a lo compositivo. Como dato interesante de la obra sobre todo el de las colaboraciones de lujo, como Kai Hansen en uno de los temas, Chris Bay en otro pas de ellas o Sascha Paeth en otro, ahí es nada. THE  WARRIOR

Existen bandas que alcanzan un estatus bastante mítico a pesar de haber desarrollado su carrera en el sotano de la escena internacional, siempre basandose en material de grandisima calidad pero lastrado por las posibilidades económicas y de promoción, no de composición. En este marco encontramos un gran exponente en los germanos "Attack", con un heavy power desde el comienzo de su carrera, a comienzos de los 80, y desde mediados de diche década mostrando ese potencial que por desgracia nunca salto a primera línea lo que sin duda habría tenido que cambiar su sino. A pesar de mostrarse en activo llevan desde 1995 en silenciom editando cinco LP's de estudio, el quinto de ellos "The secret place", como digo de 1995, y del que hoy dejo en el blog otro de sus temas, el fantástico "The Warrior", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

REBELLION  IN  DREAMLAND

Lo que en la década de los 90 se tornaba decadencia, horfandad, soledad en solo algunos bastiones inquebrantables dentro del heavy metal de corte clásico, se tornaba crecimiento, diversificación, en otros subgéneros más o menos nuevos, evolucionados de aquel heavy metal primigenio que parecía, (solo parecia) extinguirse, entre otros el power que florecía en multiples escenas, destacando por encima de todas la europea, y dentro de la alemana, Hansen, a quien el subgénero debe y deberá tanto, dirigía con mano metálica su destino a través de obras como "Land of the free" de 1995. Magna obra, completa, enorme en ejecución e inspiración tanto creativa para los que la parieron como creadora para quienes la imitaron, que no serían pocos, un deleite para los iniciados en ese instante y una cantera iniciadora para otros, un brillante espejo que aún destella y destila calidad y que sigue enganchando como por ejemplo a través del impresionante "rebellion in dreamland" que la abre, destapando un tarro de las esencias que no cesa en todo la obra, un tema este "rebellion in dreamland" del que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Pegazus - Bastards Of War

 

BASTARDS  OF  WAR

La sensación al escuchar el primer sonido de la banda australiana Pegazus ha sido siempre para mí la misma, esa sensación de estar escuchando una de las muchas bandas que salieron a mitad de la década de los 80 solo que en este caso con una década de retraso, y es algo no dicho de forma peyorativa, antes al contrario, en un momento en el que muchas bandas abrian, o continuaban por sendas nuevas, evolucionando a otras cosas, ellos comenzaban mirando hacia el sonido clásico, y su evolución, sobre todo en su siguiente obra sería muy en el camino del power, pero su debut es simple y llanamente heavy metal de la vieja escuela. Hablamos de 1995 cuando editaban este "Pegazus" homónimo al nombre de la banda, abriendo ese camino que les ha llevado sin demasiado reconocimeinto hasta nuestros días, aunque lleven, a fecha de esta reseña, una década sin editar nada nuevo. Primera de las obras de estudio de los alemanes "Seventh Avenue", obra con la que comenzaron su historia que injustamente una vez más no alcanzó el reconocimiento merecido atendiendo a la calidad demostrada ya desde los comienzos mismos. Hablamos de 1995 cuando editaban este debut "Rainbowland", un disco que mostraba un comienzo algo más orientado a un power speed, algo más orientado hacia un sonido  heavy clásico que se tornaría mucho más power de corte europeo en obras posteriores dando en este "Rainbowland" esa sensación de power primitivo si se quiere, como si se tuviera que haber compuesto años antes de la fecha que muestra, y de hecho así fue, ya que muchos de estos temas parece ser que se compusieron en los incios del grupo, entre 1989 y 1992. Canciones para una vida - Kamelot - Eternity

ETERNITY

 Nos adentramos una vez más en terrenos más progresivos para retomar el primer material de los estadounidenses "Kamelot", un grupo del que ya he hablado en más de una ocasión y que desde luego no necesita de presentación alguna. Como digo, hoy quiero recuperar su material inicial, concretamente su debut en forma de LP, "Eternity" de 1995. Es una larga trayectoria ya la que contempla a esta banda que siempre se ha caracterizado por una exquisita calidad, más allá de lo que pueda agradarte el estilo compositivo. También se trata de un grupo con bastantes cambios en la formación, incluso en algunos puestos tan icónicos como el de cantante, y la parte inicial de la historia de la banda la componían en su mayoría músicos que ya no pertenecen al grupo. Un sonido más cercano al power de la época, con esos rasgos compositivos del metal progresivo, absolutamente reconocibles pero también totalmente incipientes en lo que terminaría por desarrollarse como un rasgo tan propio de la banda. Quiero pues dejar una de las canciones de este "Eternity" de 1995, y que mejor que el tema que da nombre a la obra, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Stratovarius - We Hold The Key

WE HOLD THE KEY


Cuarta obra, "Fourth Dimension", de 1995, de estos finlandeses de los que ya hemos hablado en el blog. Como ya dije, dos grandes nombres han marcado la historia de este grupo, Timo Tolkki a la guitarra y Timo Kotipelto a la voz, a pesar de que ninguno de ellos fuera miembro fundador de la banda. El primero de ambos que se incorporó fue Tolkki muy al principio tocando desde la primera obra de estudio y ocupándose de las funciones de vocalista también en los tres primeros discos. Esta cuarta obra de estudio, de 1995, marca el comienzo del cantante Timo Kotipelto, lo que supone un punto de inflexión en el grupo. Con Tolkki centrado en la composición y con la mayor y mejor capacidad vocal de Kotipelto, desde este disco la banda no hizo más que crecer, y ya se nota en este disco, donde las composiciones son más cuidadas y la interpretación a cargo de la portentosa voz de kotipelto es perfecta. Como contrapartida, la nueva dirección musical propuesta hizo que Tuomo Lassila (Batería) y Antti Ikonen (Teclista) salieran de la banda, abriendo a su vez sitio a dos grandes músicos, los primeros no finlandeses en integrarla, el teclísta Jens Johansson (sueco), y el batería Jorg Michael (alemán), (casi nada...). Los temas comienzan a llevar la dirección que tendrían en los siguientes y exitosos años que vendrían para la banda. El disco "Fourth dimension" tiene muy buenos temas, algunos muy "peculiares" como el raro pero enganchón "030366". Hoy quiero dejar el tema "We hold the key" que ya repetía la estructura musical que llevaría a la banda a sus más altas cotas de popularidad y ventas, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Rage - A Spider's Web

A SPIDER'S WEB

Dificil escoger solo un tema de este monumental disco de Rage, uno de los que enseña la enorme variedad de influencias que muestra su estilo que bebe de fuentes tan dispares como el heavy metal clásico, el speed metal, el thrash y eso sin dejar de lado ramalazos power y experimentación si es necesario con fragmentos casi progresivos, todo un alarde compositivo que en esta obra alcanza mayor versatilidad que casi nunca en mi humilde opinión. Se trata este "Black in mind" de su octavo álbum de estudio, que aparecía tras su afamado "The missing link", posiblemente una de sus obras maestras, y que tuvo en este disco posterior a un digno sucesor a pesar de que tras el citado "The Missing Link", el guitarrista de siempre Manny "Schmidt" dejase el grupo, una baja bien cubierta por Spiros Efthimiadis, que junto con Sven Fischer hicieron una gran labor a la guitarra. Es sencillo dejarse seducir por una obra tan completa, y con una duración que supera la media, sobre todo si tenemos en cuenta el material actual de casi todas las bandas que nunca suele ir más allá de la hora por los casi 70 minutos de esta obra. En definitiva un disco al que siempre aconsejo acercarse sin miedo alguno a equivocarse, y del que ya hable hace unos meses en el blog, hoy quiero recomendar la canción "A Spider's web", enganchona desde el inicio, de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Blind Guardian - Imaginations From The Other Side

IMAGINATIONS FROM THE OTHER SIDE

Ya hemos hablado antes de Blind Guardian en este blog, y en general poco hay que decir que ya no se sepa de esta extraordinaria banda alemana, tan solo una breve referencia a su largo historial musical. Blind Guardian se formó en 1984 en Alemania, bajo el nombre de Lucifer's Heritage, con el que funcionaron hasta 1986, en que cambian a Blind Guardian. Los miembros fundadores fueron Hansi Kursch y Andre Olbrich, incorporándose al poco tiempo Thomen Stauch y Marcus Siepen. De ellos solo Thomen Stauch ha dejado la banda en 2005. Algunos otros músicos han pasado por el grupo y grandes colaboraciones como la de Kai Hansen, pero en general Blind Guardian han tenido mucha estabilidad en su formación. Influenciados por la literatura, (sobre todo Tolkien y Stephen King) y el cine, sus letras hacen referencia a esos temas y en ocasiones ayudan a la linea argumental de canciones de la banda o incluso de discos enteros. Tienen 10 discos de estudio, a cual mejor, lo que les ha creado un nombre entre los grupos internacionales más respetados dentro de nuestro mundillo. Quiero hoy hacer referencia a uno de sus mejores discos a mi entender, el Imaginations from the other side, de 1995, con unos Blind Guardian ya en su cenit, y en plena forma, un disco con temas memorables en esta su quinta obra de estudio, de la que pueden destacarse todos y cada uno de los temas, y en más ocasiones recurriremos a esta auténtica joya de los 90, de la banda y del heavy metal en general. Hoy quiero dejar el tema homónimo en el blog al titulo del disco, "Imaginations from the other side", un tema perfecto para engancharte y obligarte a quedarte durante toda la obra enganchado más que nunca al sonido de los bardos, un temazo del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Afflicted - Son Of Earth

SON OF EARTH

Hoy vamos a hablar en el blog de otra de esas bandas poco conocidas y en cierto modo pioneras en su propio campo. Se trata de los suecos Afflicted, originalmente formados bajo el nombre de "Afflicted Convulsion" en 1988 y que funcionaron con esa denominación hasta 1990 en que deciden cambiar su nombre por Affliction. En esos años la banda hacía un death metal técnico con toques progresivos, abriendo camino en la escena de su país en tal sonido en esa temprana época para esta corriente musical. El problema a la hora del reconocimiento general de este grupo viene porque en esos años la banda solo grabó unas demos y apenas sacó la cabeza de la escena underground de su Suecia natal, pero fue gran influencia para otros grupos que vieron en su sonido un campo musical a conquistar. Además otras bandas suecas que comenzaron más o menos en los mismos años haciendo un sonido similar, tales como "Entombed" o "Dismember" eclipsaron a Afflicted, con una carrera mejor estructurada desde el inicio. La banda, ya con el nombre de Afflicted mantuvo su concepto musical durante esos primeros años, editando alguna demo más, y llegado cierto momento deciden cambiar su sonido enfocándolo más hacia un Power - heavy metal - con algún guiño Thrash, no en vano, la banda, en sus inicios, antes de llamarse "Afflicted convulsion" provenía de los restos de una anterior banda de thrash que se llamó "Defiance" y que editó algún material en forma de demo, unas raíces que salen a relucir en esta "tercera etapa del grupo" en alguna ocasión. Ya como Afflicted editan dos LP's, en 1992 y 1995. Hoy quiero traer al blog un tema de su segundo LP "Dawn of glory", de 1995, tras el que el grupo se separa. Canciones para una vida - Scanner - After The Storm

AFTER THE STORM

Scanner se forma en 1982, funcionaron como "Lions Breed" entre el 82 y el 86. Como Scanner llevan 6 discos de estudio, editados entre los años 1988, con su espectacular "Hypertrace", y "The judgement", de este 2015, una obra salida tras 13 años de silencio y de la que hablaremos más adelante pues aún le debo unas cuantas escuchas al disco, aunque lo poco que he escuchado me ha sonado como mínimo prometedor. Ya hemos hablado anteriormente en el blog de esta banda para referirnos a sus antológicos dos primeros discos, "Hypertrace" de 1988, y "Terminal Earth", del 89, donde desarrollaron el personal estilo musical que les caracteriza, ese power, en ocasiones speed metal con temática de ciencia ficción que es su sello. Tras firmar por "Massacre Records", y con una espera de seis años tras su anterior LP, editan en 1995 su tercer larga duración, "Mental Reservation", un disco en el que se nota un cierto cambio en el sonido de la banda, a pesar de el concepto musical permanece inalterado, con cambios en el "Line up" de la banda, en el puesto de vocalista, aunque esta banda ha tenido infinidad de cambios internos, lo que puede explicar los largos periodos en ocasiones de tiempo entre obra y obra, y su irregularidad como banda, algo que la inestabilidad en las formaciones suele agudizar, y es que es más que posible que sus mejores obras sean las dos primeras, (al menos esa es mi opinión), sobre todo el "Hypertrace", que mostraba esa innovación para le época. Esta tercera obra es conceptual, siempre dentro de la ciencia ficción y la base musical no difiere en exceso de sus predecesoras, aunque creo que el "filo" de los temas en general es menor, aunque es más que interesante escuchar la obra pues siempre encontrarás calidad de la marca "Scanner", como sucede en esta canción de la que hoy quiero dejar en el blog, "After the storm", una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Saxon - The Great White Buffalo

THE GREAT WHITE BUFFALO

A pesar de no haber llegado a la importancia mediática de bandas británicas  posteriores o coetáneas a ellos como Iron Maiden o Judas Priest, la influencia que Saxon a dejado en muchos grupos posteriores ha sido grande, y sus cifras de venta así lo atestiguan ya que hasta 2013 se estima que han vendido más de 13 millones de discos a nivel mundial. Ya hemos hablado de su historia en anteriores entradas, son una banda que lleva en activo bajo el nombre de Saxon desde 1978 y que cuentan con nada menos que 20 discos de estudio a sus espaldas. A mediados de los 80 comienzan a flirtear con un sonido mas Glam, hard rock, para intentar el asalto al mercado estadounidense que siempre se les había resistido. En los noventa vuelven a su sonido más heavy, pero en general siempre ha sido un grupo con un sonido muy concreto aunque sin miedo a reinventarse, y la prueba puede estar en los últimos 3 o 4 discos en que han adoptado un sonido mucho más power metal e incluso con ciertos toques sinfónicos. Tras su flirteo con el sonido más americano en su intento de abrirse aquel mercado, cosa que jamás llegaron a hacer del todo, el disco "Solid ball of rock", de 1990, su ya 10ª obra de estudio, si bien era un paso para volver a sus raíces en lo que a sonido se refiere, aun destilaba ese guiño americano que ultimamente habían afrontado, muy en la onda del sonido que mandaba en esa época por otra parte. Volviendo a la época media de su historia, hoy voy a irme al año 1995 para hablar de su undécimo album de estudio, "Dogs of War", disco sacado en esa época de transición del sonido metálico que supuso la mitad de la década de los 90 en la que los grupos de sonido clásico se vieron "invadidos" por nuevas tendencias teniendo que escoger entre una evolución o permanecer fieles a su estilo. Pues bien, de este disco, el último con el guitarrista Graham Oliver en la banda, quiero hoy dejar en el blog un tema, "The great white buffalo", canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Running Wild - Men In Black

MEN IN BLACK

Como ya hemos dicho anteriormente en nuestro blog, los alemanes Running Wild, con 16 discos de estudio a sus espaldas han sido uno de los pioneros del llamado speed Power metal, e impulsores del denominado "pirate metal", estilo que algunas bandas han tomado después como referencia, ultimamente casos tan destacables como Alestorm con un toque mucho más folk o Blazon Stone, por mencionar algunas. Formados en 1976, Running Wild comenzaron bajo el nombre de Granite Hearts, cambiando un año después su nombre a Running Wild.  El grupo ha experimentado gran número de cambios en su formación, siendo el cantante y guitarrista "Rock'n'Rolf" Kasparek el único miembro que ha permanecido desde sus inicios, y el principal compositor. En 2009 se tomaron un descanso y volvieron como banda en 2011 para sacar 2 albumes más hasta la fecha de esta reseña, segunda época bastante criticada en general en que se acusa a Rolf Kasparek de falta de toda la garra anterior de la banda. Hoy vamos a volver a la mitad de la década de los 90, para hablar de un disco que tenía la misión de ser el sucesor de uno de los mejores discos de la banda a mi entender, el "Black hand inn", de 1994. Nos referimos al décimo disco de estudio de la banda, "Masquerade", de 1995, un disco que fue realizado en una época de cambio en el sonido metálico internacional con la irrupción de muchos subestilos y el cambio del sonido clásico en general, aunque siempre hubo bastiones que defendieron a ultranza el sonido de toda la vida, y uno de los exponentes más claros de lo que digo son sin duda Running Wild, un grupo que parece inmune a influencias externas, nacidos para influir, con un estilo perfilado a lo largo de sus años de carrera, convencidos de su forma de hacer que fueron en esa época uno de los fuertes irreductibles del sonido clásico. Logran con este "Masquerade" hacer una digna continuación de su "black hand inn", disco por otra parte dificilmente repetible. Temas como este "Men in black" apoyan lo que digo, y contribuyeron sin duda a que la banda haya vendido más de 130.000 copias de esta obra, una de sus peores cifras de ventas de un álbum, sin embargo yo buscaría más la explicación a este hecho en, como decía,  la difícil época de esos años para el metal tradicional que por la falta de calidad de la obra.
