Canciones para una vida - Edguy - Matrix

 

MATRIX

Un clásico del power europeo hoy de nuevo en el blog, los alemanes Edguy, el primero de los grandes proyectos de Tobias Sammet, otro de esos reyes "Midas" dentro del heavy metal, un poco como Kai Hansen, grandes músicos que tienen la virtud de convertir en exito todo lo que tocan. Edguy comienza su andadura en 1992 y desde 1995 comienzan a editar música, hasta completar una discografía que de momento componen 10 LP's de estudio, eso sí, sobre todo por el desgaste de los continuos proyectos de Sammet y el enorme peso adquirido por Avantasia, Edguy se encuentra en estado de pausa desde 2020, y llevan sin sacar LP desde 2014, sin tener en cuenta su recopilatorio "Monuments" de 2017. Quiero pensar y espero que la banda recupere su actividad en algún momento pues se me antoja una de esas bandas fundamentales en el power que sería una pena que dejase definitivamente de editar música. Hoy quiero recuperar su séptimo LP, "Rocket Ride", de 2006, en uno de sus mejores momentos, un disco del que se pueden escoger muchos temas, y del que hoy quiero dear su canción "Matrix", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Edguy - Defenders Of The Crown

DEFENDERS  OF  THE  CROWN

Hace ya mucho tiempo que el bueno de Tobias Sammet saco material de estudio con su banda madre "Edguy" por última vez, exactamente desde 2014 con "Space Police - Defenders Of The Crown". Es cierto que la gran inquietud de este músico le ha hecho abrir quizás demasiados frentes al mismo tiempo, y ello le ha terminado obligando a desatender las necesidades de una banda tan importante como Edguy a nivel internacional, hasta el punto de que por el momento la continuidad del grupo esta "en el aire". Como digo, son ya seis años sin editar material de estudio salvo el recopilatorio "Monuments" de 2017, y sería una pena que la banda terminase por disolverse tras una carrera llena de momentos más que importantes. Mismamente, atendiendo a su último material editado encontramos una obra de buen nivel que da motivos para pensar en su continuidad sin problemas, claro está, si se le dedica tiempo completo, cosa que Sammet no creo que tenga atendiendo las necesidades también de Avantasia. Sea como sea, es siempre buen momento de recuperar las perlas de este grupo, y hoy quiero hacerlo con su "Space Police - defenders of the crown", y su tema casi homónimo "Defenders of the crown" del que dejo un enlace a youtube. Esperemos ver más capítulos en un futuro, sería una pena dejar morir a una banda como esta.

Canciones para una vida - Edguy - Deadmaker

DEADMAKER

Aunque se trata del segundo LP de la banda alemana Edguy, este "Kingdom Of Madness" de 1997 se puede considerar como la obra inicial ya que "Savage Poetry" puede considerarse más bien como una especie de Demo sobre todo en lo que a la calidad de grabación se refiere, algo a lo que pusieron remedio en 2000 con la reedición de la obra en cuarta posición cronológicamente hablando, ya como un LP en condiciones. En cualquier caso, en este "Kingdom of madness" nos encontramos con uns Edguy incipientes, con toda la ilusión por delante y muchos de sus rasgos caracterísicos que ya comenzaban a apreciarse, un potencial que empezaba a dejar ver la capacidad de la figura tras la banda, Tobias Sammet. RAVENBLACK

 Siempre sucede igual a la hora de afrontar un asunto como la publicación de un recopilatorio por parte de una banda consagrada, y es que resulta inevitable hacerte la pregunta de si será por la gloria, por la pasta o por cualquier otro motivo. Siempre me ha parecido por otra parte algo lícito, sin duda, siempre que no se abuse de ello como ya ha sucedido en más de una ocasión con bandas con casi tantos LP's como recopilatorios. Edguy no ha abusado de ello en exceso y, con 11 albumes y tres EP's han logrado una cantidad más que respetable de material entre el que rebuscar a la hora de decidir cual es lo mejor de lo mejor de su cosecha, y si a eso unimos que han incluido algo de material nuevo para la ocasión, se me antoja que puede ser bastante acertada la edición de este "Monuments" que verá la luz de forma oficial el próximo 14 de julio de este 2017. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog un tema nuevo que incluirá el mencionado recopilatorio, "Ravenblack", con el inconfundible regusto de Edguy y del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su Lyric vídeo oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Edguy - Out Of Control

OUT  OF  CONTROL

 Vuelvo hoy al primer hogar musical del reconocido músico alemán Tobias Sammet para echar la vista atrás y fijar mi mirada en la obra que dio a conocer a Edguy al gran público en general y que sirvió bien como trampolin a todo lo que ha venido y vendrá de la mano de este grandísimo músico. Se trata de la tercera obra de la banda, "Vain Glory opera", de 1998, un disco que daba pistas inconfundibles de por donde iría la carrera musical del bueno de Sammet por muchos motivos, desde el sonido en si mismo de la obra pasando por las colaboraciones de lujo con las que cuenta e incluso con la inclusión de la palabra "Opera" en el título que parece un presagio de lo que poco después se traduciría en el revolucionario sonido Avantasia dentro del power de primer nivel tan imitado posteriormente. En definitiva, este álbum de Edguy merece un puesto alto dentro de su nicho sonoro por todos esos motivos y además en mayor medida si cabe por la juventud aún de los miembros que lo integraban ya que apenas llegaban aún a la veintena. Desde luego el "Apadrinamiento" por parte de nada menos que Timo Tolkki fue pieza clave para que además del innegable talento de los alemanes tuviese mayor repercusión en una época esta de finales de los 90 en que la figura de Tolkki era enorme dentro del panorama power internacional con unos Stratovarius en pleno disfrute del más brillante de sus éxitos. El disco "Vain glory opera" dio pues la ocasión a Edguy de brillar con más medios y un poco más de madurez musical que sus dos predecesores albumes y esa ola de éxito les llevó merecidamente muy arriba, un disco plagado de buen hacer y grandes temas como este "Out of control", con solo de Tolkki incluido y unos coros por parte de Hansi Kursch nada menos que elevan aún más si cabe el nivel del tema, una canción de la que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Edguy nace a comienzos de los noventa viendo realizadas sus primeras demos en 1994. Desde 1995 comenzaron su aventura con discos de estudio y desde entonces han sacado 11 discos de un power metal de impecable factura. En el momento de surgimiento de la banda los chicos aún estaban en el instituto y contaban con apenas 15 años y quizás por ello tengan ese toque irreverente que se les nota en muchas ocasiones en sus letras y sobre todo en sus videoclips. En 1998 la banda da un paso adelante con las primeras colaboraciones de nada menos que Timo Tolkki de Stratovarius, quien también produjo el disco y de Hansi kursch de Blind Guardian, lo que quizás sembró la semilla en la cabeza de Sammet para la futura realización de Avantasia. Desde el Vain glory opera de 1998 todo fue en ascenso en calidad y éxito hasta llegar a ser una de las bandas más importantes a nivel internacional dentro del género. Sin embargo, y en mi humilde opinión, el inquieto cantante  y compositor, al crear aparte del material de su banda madre algún que otro proyecto y colaboración que le ha dado tanta fama si no más que con Edguy, evidentemente me refiero a Avantasia, ha descuidado demasiado este proyecto inicial que ha perdido un poco esas pretensiones de comerse el mercado internacional power metalero, así, para mi gusto sus temas se han vuelto demasiado personales, carentes de ese filo que si que tenían en sus inicios, tanto con Edguy, como dicho sea de paso con Avantasia. Sin embargo, es evidente que a estos músicos tampoco se les va a olvidar de repente hacer música de calidad, es más bien que lo que antes yo disfrutaba como discos completos ahora con suerte disfruto con temas sueltos, como este de su última obra editada hasta la fecha de esta reseña, "sabre & torch", que fue single de adelanto de su en general para mí flojo "Space Police" de 2014. Por eso hoy quiero echar un vistazo a los comienzos aún de la banda, cuando aun Sammet estaba centrado solo en Edguy, y su sonido era desde luego más similar al power metal de los 90, en concreto me refiero a su cuarto disco de estudio, "Theater of Salvation", de 1999, un trabajo más en la linea de sus anteriores trabajos, y que se erigía en cabeza visible del power europeo junto con los Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius y Hammerfall, temas como "Wake up the king", "the headless game" o este "Arrows fly" del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube así lo demuestran.

THE PIPER NEVER DIES

 Los alemanes Edguy no necesitan de presentación alguna, en gran parte gracias a su carismático líder Tobias Sammet. El inquieto cantante ha creado aparte del material de su banda madre algun que otro proyecto y colaboración que le ha dado tanta fama si no más que con Edguy, evidentemente me refiero a Avantasia. Pero centrémonos en la banda con la que empezó. Edguy nace a comienzos de los noventa viendo realizadas sus primeras demos en 1994. Desde 1995 comenzaron su aventura con discos de estudio y desde entonces han sacado 11 discos de un power metal de impecable factura. En el momento de surgimiento de la banda los chicos aún estaban en el instituto y contaban con apenas 15 años y quizás por ello tengan ese toque irreverente que se les nota en muchas ocasiones en sus letras y sobre todo en sus videoclips. Hoy quiero hablar de su sexta obra de estudio, "Hellfire club", de 2004, un disco que graban tras las exitosas aventuras fuera de Edguy de Tobias Sammet con Avantasia. Es un disco en el que quizás la banda, en concreto Tobias parece más centrado con Edguy, y se nota en el resultado final, es un disco bien perfilado que cuenta con un ligero cambio en el sonido tradicional del grupo, y que además es apoyado por la "Deutsches Filmorchester Babelsberg Orchestra". Hoy quiero dejar en el blog un tema de este disco, en concreto su "The piper never dies"n un largo tema de 10 minutos que sin embrago resulta fácilmente digerible, que ya desde el comienzo te engancha con su calmado inicio que promete un cambio inminente, y efectivamente desemboca en un sonido más potente, que vuelve a descender a medio tiempo para poco a poco engancharnos con un progresivo aumento de potencia y un pegadizo estribillo marca de la casa. Canciones para una vida - Edguy - Judas At The Opera

JUDAS AT THE OPERA

Una vez más este quinteto alemán en nuestro blog. Ya hemos hablado un poquito de su historia aquí y, como ya hemos dicho, Edguy nace a comienzos de los noventa viendo realizadas sus primeras demos en 1994. Desde 1995 comenzaron su aventura con discos de estudio y desde entonces han sacado 11 discos de un power metal de impecable factura. En el momento del surgimiento de la banda los chicos aún estaban en el instituto y contaban con apenas 15 años y quizás por ello tengan ese toque irreverente que se les nota en muchas ocasiones en sus letras y sobre todo en sus videoclips. De hecho, el nombre de la banda surgió cuando, allá por 1992 cuatro estudiantes de bachillerato de apenas catorce años que se burlaban de su estirado profesor de matemáticas, el profesor Edgar Zimmerer, variando el nombre del profesor "Edgar" a "Edguy". Como ya hemos dicho, el alma mater del grupo es sin duda Tobias Sammet cuyas señas de identidad musicales bien podrian ser ese toque "gamberro" y la facilidad para encontrar colaboraciones con cualquier músico, incluso aunque este hubiese jurado y perjurado no volver a tocar Heavy, (caso de Michael Kiske). Pues bien, ese par de rasgos musicales de Tobias se ven perfectamente reflejados en esta obra. Para el lado gamberro basta con ver la portada de este EP que hoy dejo en el blog. Se trata de "Superheroes", un EP sacado en 2005, justo antes de que saliese el septimo disco de Edguy, titulado "Rocket ride" en 2006. Para el lado "colaborador" basta con escuchar este tema que dejo en el blog, perteneciente a este EP, se trata de la espectacular canción "Judas at the opera", en la que canta con Michel Kiske, es decir, no solo le hizo volver a cantar heavy de primer nivel con los dos primeros discos Avantasia, sino que además lo logro también en este gran tema de Edguy, del que dejo un enlace a youtube. Todo un caracter este Tobias Sammet.

Canciones para una vida - Edguy - Painting On The Wall

PAINTING ON THE WALL

Como ya hemos dicho en alguna ocasión en este blog, Edguy nace a comienzos de los noventa viendo realizadas sus primeras demos en 1994. Desde 1995 comenzaron su aventura con discos de estudio y desde entonces han sacado 11 discos de un power metal de impecable factura. En el momento de surgimiento de la banda los chicos aún estaban en el instituto y contaban con apenas 15 años y quizás por ello tengan ese toque irreverente que se les nota en muchas ocasiones en sus letras y sobre todo en sus videoclips. En 1998 la banda da un paso adelante con las primeras colaboraciones de nada menos que Timo Tolkki de Stratovarius, quien también produjo el disco y de Hansi kursch de Blind Guardian, lo que quizás sembro la semilla en la cabeza de Sammet para la futura realización de Avantasia. Hoy me quiero referir a su disco "Mandrake", de 2001, su quinta obra de estudio, que les afianzaba de forma internacional mientras el nombre de Tobias Sammet se agrandaba al comenzar con sus escarceos con Avantasia, monumental banda de colaboraciones en la que Tobias se encarga de todo a nivel compositivo y que ese año vio su primer larga duración con un éxito mayor casi a nivel internacional que el de el propio Edguy. En este "mandrake" encontramos muy buenas canciones, preparando lo que sería la llegada del que para mi es el mejor trabajo de Edguy, su siguiente disco "hellfire club" de 2004 del que hablaremos aquí en alguna ocasión. Escoger una canción de este "mandrake" no resulta facil pero quiero decantarme por el "painting on the wall", un tema con ese toque tan suyo, en una disciplina como el "medio tiempo" donde esta banda para mi gusto lo borda. Los alemanes Edguy no necesitan de presentación alguna, en gran parte gracias a su carismático lider Tobias Sammet. El inquieto cantante ha creado aparte del material de su banda madre algun que otro proyecto y colaboración que le ha dado tanta fama si no más que con Edguy, evidentemente me refiero a Avantasia. Pero centremonos en la banda con la que empezó. Edguy nace a comienzos de los noventa viendo realizadas sus primeras demos en 1994. Desde el Vain glory opera de 1998 todo fue en ascenso en calidad y éxito hasta llegar a ser una de las bandas más importantes a nivel internacional dentro del género.He querido traer al blog una canción gamberra de la banda, este Robin Hood de su Age of the Joker de 2011 que aunque ni de lejos me parece su mejor disco, si que tiene canciones tan buenas como esta, una canción de 8 minutos con varios cambios y con un clip muy humorístico.
