The Storyteller es ese tipo de bandas que deberían, teniendo en cuenta su caildad, haber tenido una carrera mucho más importante, mucho más llena, menos irregular, más constante porque todo lo que hace falta para hacer algo grande parece tenerlo el grupo con creces. Llevan ya una década de silencio desde su último LP de estudio, "Sacred Fire" de 2015, solo un single en 2023 rompió ese silencio, pero este 2025 será testigo de la publicación de su séptimo album "Final stand" que espero con ganas, hasta ese momento recupero hoy otra canción más de su penútimo album "Dark Legacy" de 2013, concretamente la canción "Break The bounds" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Judicator - Sea Of Fire

 

SEA  OF  FIRE

Cuando una banda tiene los mimbres, la base, el potencial y la capacidad se le suele notar desde sus primeros pasos, después, lo del éxito y el reconocimiento ya es otra cosa, ahí entran muchas veces factores ajenos incluso a lo musical, lo que no deja de ser una lástima, pero en lo referente a la calidad, por ejemplo esta banda estadounidense, "Judicator" ha demostrado ya en esta más de una década de existencia que desde luego van bien servidos. Hoy quiero echar la vista atrás, hacia sus comienzos, que se dieron en 2012, y recuperar su segundo LP, "Sleepy Plessow" de 2013, una buena muestra de lo dicho al inicio de esta reseña, calidad y por aquel entonces promesa que hoy en día se ha más que cumplido y es de esos grupos que a medida que avanzan en su carrera queda más patente que van hacia arriba. Canciones para una vida - Mael Mordha - Laudabiliter

 

LAUDABILITER

 Mael Mordha es una banda irlandesa que desarrolla un sonido bastante propio, peculiar mezclando varios elementos que han definido su sonido. Se trata de una banda irlandesa que suena un poco a folk metal de raices célticas, un poco a power doom heavy metal, y elos mismos se definen como "Gaelic doom metal", con unas líricas histórico mitológicas, han desarrollado una carrera bajo el nombre de Mael Mordha desde 1998 hasta que en 2015 deciden separarse, o más bien dejar su futuro en el aire pues parece que pueden retornar a un periodo activo en cualquier momento aunque desde 2013 no editan material nuevo de estudio. Son cuatro los LP's que conforman su discografía, entre 2005 y 2013 y es el LP de este último año citado del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus temas. La obra lleva por título "Damned when dead" y la canción escogida es la que abre la obra, "Laudabiliter" de la que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Keldian - Run For Your Life

 

RUN  FOR  YOUR  LIFE

Cualquiera que haya juzgado el sonido de los noruegos Keldian por la última de sus obras, e incluso diría más yendo a sus últimos dos trabajos, se estaría perdiendo la mejor parte de su historia, sobre todo juzgandola desde una perspectiva más power, más heavy, más contundente. Siempre muestran calidad, por supuesto, y siempre han demostrado que no les preocupa mucho la opinión de las masas, dan la sensación de seguir sus propios impulsos compositivos, y estos últimos les han alejado un poco de su propuesta inicial que a mi entender no tenía desperdicio. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de las canciones que componen su tercer LP de estudio, "Outbound" de 2013, concretamente uno, "Run for your life", que ilustra bien ese cierto cambio al que hoy me refiero, siendo un tema bastante más directo, y power, del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Nordheim - Under A Crying Storm

 

UNDER  A  CRYING  STORM

los canadienses "Northeim" de sonido plenamente nórdico , llevan ya muchos años sin sacar material nuevo de estudio (desde 2017), a pesar de seguir en activo y de haber demostrado ese buen hacer y esa calidad innegable en los tres LP's que hasta la fecha de esta reseña adornan su discografía. Como digo death metal melódico, con tintes folk y en ocasiones casi power, que cualquiera que no conociese el origen de la banda les buscaría en escandinavia más que en ningún otro punto del globo, sin embargo es la también estraordinaria cantera canadiense la que marca el origen de la banda. 2013 fue el año escogido por la banda para publicar su segundo LP de estudio, "Refill", album completamente de confirmación tras su buen debut de 2010, y del citado segundo album dejo hoy en el blog otro de sus temas, en esta ocasión "Under a crying storm", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Satan's Host - Cor Maleficus Heart Of Evil

 

COR  MALEFICUS  -  HEART  OF  EVIL

Como ya sabemos el trasiego de nombres de unas bandas a otras, de salidas de músicos por uno u otro motivo de unos grupos provoca la creación de otros, pero al final el hecho es que tras muchas bandas de calidad siempre aparecen nombres de peso que justifican esa calidad, aunque inicialmente no se relacionen con los nombres. Hoy dejo en el blog una banda unida a uno de esos nombres, "Satan's Host" unida a la figura del vocalista Harry Conklin que para muchos, en plan asociación de ideas es como decir "Jag Panzer". La salida de esta citada banda americana, Jag Panzer, de Conklin en 1985, tras su primer material termina por hacer nacer a la banda que hoy traigo al blog, "Satan's Host", un grupo que sigue a grandes rasgos las mismas premisas que el primero, heavy metal de la vieja escuela, de la americana. En principio, ConKlin solo permanecería en ella desde 1985 hasta 1988, en su primer LP "Metal From Hell" del que hablaré en otra ocasión, pero, en 2009 regresa a la banda, siempre bajo el psudónimo de Leviathan Thisiren, donde permanece hasta la actualidad como miembro en activo. En total, "Satan's Host" ha editado un total de 10 LP's de estudio, el primero de 1986 y los últimos cinco desde 2009 en adelante con Conklin a la voz. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de las canciones que componen su séptimo LP, "Virgin Sails", de 2013, en concreto el tema que la abre, "Cor Maleficus - Heart Of Evil" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Evertale - Dragonriders

 

DRAGONRIDERS

Otra banda a la que le tocaría ya dar noticias compositivas mirando su trayectoria y el tiempo que suelen tomarse entre cada una de ellas son los alemanes "Evertale", con ese aura que en muchas ocasiones intentan recrear el estilo de sus compatriotas "Blind Guardian", algo realmente dificil de imitar bien. Su carrera comienza en 2006 bajo el nombre de Evertale, aunque desde 1997 lo hacían como "Blackened" editando en 2003 un único LP. Desde 2006 y su cambio de nombre tan solo dos LP's adornan su discografía, quizá demasiado escasa, en 2013 su debut "Of dragons and elves" y en 2017 su segundo LP "The great brotherwar". Es por esa progresión por lo que parecería factible que este 2021 hubiesen dado señales de vida compositiva o que lo puedan hacer en el inminente ya 2022, veremos. Igualmente, tras su más que prometedor debut de 2013, esperaba yo más de su segundo disco que me defraudó un poco. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog otro de los temas que componen su "Of dragons and elves" de 2013, concretamente el bonus track "Dragonriders", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Suidakra - Beneath The Red Eagle

 

BENEATH  THE  RED  EAGLE

Otro de esos grupos a los que retornar asiduamente es "Suidakra", estos alemanes con su ya más que importante trayectoria que muestra 14 LP's de estudio en más de dos décadas de historia, (desde 1994). Como ya es conocido su sonido se centra en un death melódico, con tintes folk celticos y una lírica épico histórica, uno de esos grupos del subgénero que hace una propuesta seria, contundente y fiel, uno de esos grupos que nunca defrauda a sus seguidores y que sorprende a muchos que no les han dado la ocasión desde sus primeras escuchas. Desde luego hay mucho donde escoger repasando su discografía y hoy quiero repetir con su "Eternal Defiance" de 2013, undécimo LP cronológicamente hablando y una de sus obras predilectas para mí, y de ella hoy dejo en el blog su temazo "Beneath the red eagle", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Rhapsody Of Fire - Tears Of Pain

TEARS  OF  PAIN

Décimo album de estudio de los italianos Rhapsody (Of Fire), que hoy de nuevo repaso en el blog con la intención de dejar otra de las canciones que lo componen. Estamos ante la penúltima obra de estudio con Fabio Lione en labores vocales y ante el primero sin Luca Turilli en las guitarras y el influjo innegable en lo compositivo que siempre ha ejercido en la banda, no siempre para bien, pero ese es otro tema. Como todo lo que rodea a una banda como esta, cada paso adelante del grupo despierta todo tipo de opiniones, y ante cambios en la formación de este calibre más si cabe, pero he de decir que a mi la obra, y las siguientes, me han gustado, me ha parecido que ha habido una vuelta a los origenes en cierto modo, con menos arreglos, menor complejidad, menos aire progresivo si se quiere, unas estructuras más básicas que a un grupo como este le va bien, según mi opinión. En este "Dark wings of steel" de 2013 se aprecia todo eso, siendo una declaración de intenciones de los pasos que vendrían detrás, y que así ha sido. Hoy quiero dejar de esta obra la canción "Tears Of Pain", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Thaurorod - Path

PATH

Han pasado muchos años ya del segundo trabajo de estudio de los finlandeses "Thaurorod", concretamente desde 2013, y durante todo este tiempo sigo teniendo la misma sensación con la obra, y es como si le faltase "filo" a las canciones. Tras el enormemente interesante debut de 2010, "Upon haunted battlefields", llegaron cambios a la banda en lo que a formación se refiere, en concreto ma refiero al puesto de cantante, con la incorporación de Andi Kravljaca, sobre todo conocido por sus trabajos con "Seventh Wonder" y "Silent Call", lo que prometía una mejora en la capacidad del grupo. Y, desde luego, en lo referente al tema técnico no hay ningún "pero" que poner, en todos los apartado se nota una capacidad técnica asombrosa, incluido el punto vocal en el que sin duda es un cantante Andi mucho más dotado que Markku Kuikka. El problema creo que reside en las composiciones en si mismas, con un cierto cambio estilístico un tanto más "progresivo" sis e quiere. De todas maneras, en su siguiente obra se ha ido solucionando este particular, y esperemos que en futuros trabajos la mejora sigua en marcha. Pero con bandas de tanat calidad y potencial siempre se puede destacar algo, y del disco de 2013. "Anteinferno" quiero hoy destacar uno de esos momentos más acertados, como en mi opinión es este "Path" del que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Skiltron - Lion Rampant

LION  RAMPANT

Aún recuerdo la primera vez que me topé con la música de estos chicos, y en ese momento hubiese apostado lo que fuese por situar su origen en Europa, seguramente muy al norte. Muchos años han pasado ya de eso y aún sigue sorprendiendome las raices folk y el sonido tan de corte europeo que siguen usando, y a pesar de la buena tradición argentina en lo que a bandas se refiere sigo teniendo esa misma sensación. Tiempo hace ya que nada se sabe de sus proyectos así que hoy he entrado a su página oficial para ver que era de ellos, y gratamente he leido que esperaban publicar un nuevo disco durante este 2020, casi grabado ya en su totalidad menos en el apartado vocal, y la pandemia tan de moda parece ser el motivo de su retraso hasta de momento fechas indeterminadas para poder completar la grabación, habiendo la banda iniciado una campaña de recogida de fondos para ayudarse con los gastos de estudio, así están las cosas, así que si quieres colaborar puedes entrar en su pagina oficial y hacerlo, con mención asegurada de tu nombre en su próxima obra. Hasta saber más de nuevos temas quiero hoy recuperar uno de los pertenecientes a obra pasadas, en concreto uno de los que formaban parte de su cuarto LP, "Into the battleground", de 2013, concretamente "Lion Rampant" del que dejo un enlace a youtube. En estos días en los que la banda sueca "Mean Streak" comienza a mostrar los primeros detalles del que será su quinto LP de estudio "Eye of the storm" cuya inminente salida se espera para este próximo 17 de julio, quiero aprovechar para traer al grupo por vez primera al blog, algo que llevo queriendo hacer ya hace algún tiempo. Esta es una banda que, si bien no ha alcanzado aún unas cotas muy elevadas de reconocimiento internacional, si que lleva ya una buena temporada en la escena, y la calidad es mucho más que apropiada para que un año de estos den la sorpresa. Hasta la fecha de esta reseña cinco son las obras que adornan su discografía (si incluimos la casi recién estrenada), y su fecha de formación se remonta ya al año 2006. Hablmos de un grupo en cierta forma versatil, que fluctua entre un heavy power clásico de sonido europeo con un cierto baño más hardrockero de vertiente americana, siempre con buen gusto compositivo y calidad interpretativa. Hoy quiero remontarme al año 2013 para dejar en el blog una de las canciones de su tercera obra de estudio, "Trial by fire", en concreto la canción "Bad Blood" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Turisas - No Good Story Ever Star With Drinking Tea

NO  GOOD  STORY  EVER  STARTS  WITH  DRINKING  TEA

Camino de los siete años sin recibir noticias desde el estudio de los finlandeses Turisas, quiero hoy rebuscar en su discografía pasada, atreviendome a hacerlo dentro de un disco al que no se del todo como calificar. Turisas es una de esas bandas que ha ido cambiando en lo que a su concepto compositivo se refiere, pasando de un death melódico con tintes folk del inicio, a un sonido demasiado cambiado que incluso es difícil de acotar. Yo, evidentemente, también soy de los que se quedan con la primera parte de su discografía, principalmente y sobre todo con su debut, el inmejorable "Battle Metal" de 2004. Casi una década después el cuarto, y, hasta la fecha de esta reseña último LP de la banda del año 2013, "Turisas 2013" fue editado con una gran unanimidad por parte de sus seguidores de que el cambio había sido demasiado grande y no para bien. Era evidente que a medida que transcurría la carrera del grupo el sonido se iba "powerizando" si se quiere, apuntando a fórmulas más vendibles, cosa que tuvo su máxima expresión en su tercera obra "stand up and fight". Pero en este "Turisas 2013" el camino parece llevar a un destino demasiado incierto, difícil de acotar dentro de un estilo concreto, sin embargo, siempre se pueden sacar buenos momentos de un disco como este, y es que la banda atesora una calidad que siempre termina por rezumar por algún lado. Hoy quiero rescatar uno de los temas que más puedo recomendar de la obra, "No good story ever starts with drinking tea", una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube. Veremos si hay una continuación de la carrera de esta banda que lleva ya demasiado en silencio, y por donde saldrán, veremos.

Canciones para una vida - Pleasure Slaves - Lionheart

LIONHEART

"Pleasure Slaves" fue una banda italiana de esas que estuvo muy poco tiempo en activo para terminar separándose. Se formaron en 2009 y su periodo activo duró hasta 2015 editando en ese tiempo tan solo un LP, "The Last of the giants" en 2013. Desde luego, atendiendo al concepto escogido por el grupo, ese power épico, con un indudable influjo de ese concepto que sembrara "Rhapsody", en lo que a temáticas sobre todo se refiere y que creara una larga ristra de bandas imitadoras desde Italia, en la que podríamos haber incluido a estos "Pleasure Slaves" si no fuera por lo tardío, cosa que quizá también pueda en parte explicar el poco éxito y repercusión que tuvo este grupo, en un momento en el que ya muchos de estos grupos se desechaban directamente por saturación de dicha idea, y eso que para nada desmerecen en su ejecución con respecto a cualquiera de las mencionadas bandas. Tienen "Pleasure Slaves" un cierto aire por ejemplo y en ocasiones, a "Domine", sin duda uno de los grupos en esa onda que más me gustaron, aunque también tienen cosas un tanto más "True", en este caso en el mal sentido de la expresión. Pero en general es un grupo más para descubrir, con buenas canciones como este "Lionheart" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Numenor - The Eternal Champion

THE  ETERNAL  CHAMPION

"Colossal Darkness" es el primer larga duración de la banda serbia "Numenor", un grupo del que también he hablado ya en el blog. Realmente el grupo lleva desde 2004 editando material, eso si, inicialmente bajo un par de nombres diferentes, "Franconian Frost" inicialmente (entre 2004 y 2005), o "Esgaroth" (entre 2005 y 2009), para terminar adoptando "Numenor" desde 2009 en adelante. Siempre al frente de la banda ha estado el cantante Despot Marko Miranovic, el único que permanece desde las anteriores etapas del grupo, aunque el guitarrista Srdan "Sirius" Brankovic lleva desde 2010 enrolado, el resto, bajo, teclados y batería se unen en 2015. Como decía más arriba, hoy quiero dejar en el blog un tema de su primer LP, "Colossal Darkness", de 2013, donde Numenor comenzaba a dar señales de su estilo, con un toque black metal más crudo y oscuro al inicio de su andadura musical, (ya demostrada antes del lanzamiento de este material con 3 EP's entre 2011 y 2013), para poco a poco ir tornándose más sinfónico y power metálico según avanza su carrera. Canciones para una vida - Lonewolf - Dragonriders

DRAGONRIDERS

Sexto álbum de la banda francesa Lonewolf, un grupo al que ya me he referido en varias ocasiones en el blog resaltando su buen hacer a pesar de no ser muy conocidos a nivel internacional. Desde luego la escena francesa no es la que más se ha prodigado históricamente hablando en parir muchas bandas de primer nivel metálico, sin embargo es de reconocer que las que salen buenas lo son de verdad y por derecho propio, y dentro del power metal de corte europeo estos "Lonewolf" es de lo mejorcito que ha dado el país Galo. En lo sonoro, como ya he dicho en otras ocasiones encontramos guiños a la escuela tanto sueca como alemana, con un aire vocal a Grave Digger y continuas melodías de esas que se meten en tu cabeza casi al instante. Como decía al inicio hoy quiero dejar una canción en el blog perteneciente a su sexto disco de estudio, "The fourth and final horseman", de 2013, obra perteneciente a ese "último arreón" que la banda ha dado desde 2012 en adelante en que van a disco por año, sin que de momento se resienta la calidad ni "el gancho" de sus temas, buen ejemplo es este "dragonriders", coreable desde la primera escucha, y del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Gloryhammer - Wizards

WIZARDS

Muchas veces podemos intuir, además de por otros muchos motivos, la grandeza de una banda o de un músico por la grandeza de los "descartes" musicales que hacen en una obra, esos temas que supuestamente se meten como bonus track después, también en ocasiones para vender más discos a los fans que siguen comprando discos y que deciden pagar un poco más cara una edición especial por ese tipo de cosas. Pues bien, Christopher Bowes, la mente tras Gloryhammer, (y Alestorm), se ha marcado en su debut con esta banda uno de esos "descartes" que ya quisieran muchas bandas tener como tema fuerte en una obra, y es que este disco sigue resultandome increible, el mejor de sus dos obras hasta la fecha de esta reseña, y este "Wizards" bien merece sin duda pagar un par de Euros más por la edición que la incluya, un tema corto pero directo y del que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Kambrium - Spellbound By A Nightmare

SPELLBOUND  BY  A  NIGHTMARE

A medio camino de muchas partes se encuentra la propuesta musical de esta banda, Kambrium, que ya he traído al blog en alguna ocasión. Estilisticamente se prodía etiquetar a este grupo aleman como un death metal melódico, de vocación épica, aunque no siempre, pues su estructura musical nos recuerda también a la del power metal de corte europeo, sobre todo en las partes en que la banda utiliza voz limpia. En definitiva estamos ante una de esas bandas que pueden traerte reminiscencias de muchas otras bandas, de diversos estilos, lo que habla de una buena versatilidad siempre de la mano de la calidad. Kambrium se forma en 2005 y sigue en activo en la actualidad, (a fecha de esta reseña), editando en este periodo de actividad tres LP's y un EP. Hoy quiero traer al blog un tema de su segundo larga duración, "Dark Reveries", de 2013, un disco para descubrir, con grandes temas y un nivel general en la obra bueno, y del que hoy quiero destacar este "Spellbound by a nightmare" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.
