Heroik - Until The End

UNTIL  THE  END 

Los canadienses Heroik parecen tristemente destinados a quedarse en el gran grupo de bandas que han editado un meritorio debut para luego no dar un segundo paso, serán otra de esas bandas que siempre llevarán consigo la incognita de hasta donde habrían podido llegar. Estamos hablando de power metal, de comienzos del la década de los 10, y con el potencial mostrado en este "Heart of battle" bien pudiesen haber desarrollado una carrera como mínimo remarcable. Aún a pesar de supuestamente seguir en activo se antojan ya demasiados años de silencio como para una resurrección, máxime cuando nunca cintaron con apoyo discográfico. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog otra de las canciones de su de momento único LP, concretamente "Until the end" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Wicked Sensation - My Turn To Fly

MY  TURN  TO  FLY 

Wicked Sensation, la banda alemana con ya una larga trayectoria a sus espaldas y repartida en dos épocas, entre 1999 y 2006 y después desde 2009 en adelante, un grupo que realiza un sonido a medio camino del heavy melódico y el hard 'n heavy, una banda que se ha mantenido un poco en un segundo plano, sin llegar a explotar internacionalmente a la primerísima línea pero que siempre ha sabido mantener un nivel compositivo al menos interesante. En 2010 el grupo publicaba su tercer LP de estudio de los cinco que afecha de esta reseña forman parte de su discografía, "Crystallized". Hoy, de la citada obra dejo inevitablemente el tema "My turn to fly" con la colaboración de Andy Deris a la voz (de ahí lo de inevitablemente), un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Sebastien - Dorian

 

DORIAN

Sebastien, la banda checa buen ejemplo del eterno dilema, la calidad o la cantidad, sin duda ellos han escogido lo primero y así en más de década y media de actividad el grupo ha publicado solo cinco LP's de estudio primando esa calidad por encima de otras cosas. Ya desde su debut de 2010 "Tears of white roses" la banda apuntaba alto, no solo por la propia concepción de sus canciones enmarcadas en un power de corte melódico sino además por las colaboraciones, como en la canción del citado album que hoy dejo en el blog, "Dorian" que cuenta con Fabio Lione como refuerzo, por otra parte uno de esos mercenarios del metal que ha colaborado con medio planeta sonoro, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Frosttide - Unforgettable Journey

UNFORGETTABLE  JOURNEY 

No es raro que una banda demuestre su valía desde su mismo inicio, que enseñe todo su potencial a las primeras de cambio, pero tampoco lo es que a pesar de ello no llegue a explotar en la medida de lo necesario y termine por desaparecer antes de tiempo, precipitadamente. En semejantes coordenadas podríamos situar a los finlandeses Frosttide, una de esas bandas que enmarcan su sonido en el death folk melódico, de inspiración nórdico vikinga fantástica, que se forman en 2009 y que en 2023 dejan de estar en activo, a pesar de no ser supuestamente un final definitivo, veremos, porque ya desde su primer EP de 2010 "Dawn Of frost" mostraban ese buen hacer y potencial que por ejemplo queda claro a través de su "Unforgettable Journey" del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Finntroll - Ett Norrskensdad

ETT  NORRSKENSDAD 

Más de un lustro lleva ya la banda finlandesa Finntroll sin dar señales de vida compositiva, su último LP data de 2020 y la verdad es que estaría muy bien que retomasen la senda compositiva para mostrar a sus seguidores que siguen activos en ese sentido. No queda otra que tirar de discografía para recordar algunos de los muchos buenos momentos que la banda ha mostrado a lo largo de su historia. En 2010 publicaban su quinto LP de estudio "nifelvind" del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus clásicos, "Ett Norrskendad", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Fejd - Gryning

 

GRYNING 

El folk metal de corte nórdico tiene en la escena sueca uno de sus mayores pilares, como no podía ser de otra manera, todo ese sonido tradicional de influencia vikinga, ese sonido tradicional que marida tan bien con el sonido heavy, es como una unión natural que ha llegado a tener un gran pico de aceptación a nivel internacional sobre todo en los años 10 de este siglo. Muchas bandas pues responden a estas premisas, entre ellas Fejd, formados con el inicio del siglo, allá por 2001, con cuatro LP's publicados a fecha de esta reseña y de la que hoy quiero dejar un canción de su tercer LP de estudio "Eifur" de 2010. "Gryning" se llama la canción y de ella dejo un enlace a youtube.

Bellfast - Deadly Oath

DEADLY  OATH 

La verdad es que escuchar un folk metal de corte céltico del estilo de practicado por la banda Bellfast a priori jamás te haría pensar en su origen japones, pero tanto la globalización musical como la época en que desarrollaron sus inicios les ha hecho poseedores de un estilo así. Un grupo, Bellfast, que ha seguido un desarrollo de su carrera a fuego lento ya que, formados en 1993, su primer material de estudio lo presentan en 2001 en formato EP para luego esperar casi una década hasta 2010 para publicar su debut en formato LP "Insula Sacra, luego 2017 y 2024 han sido los años en que han sacado sus siguientes trabajos, hasta un total de tres LP's a fecha de esta reseña. Canciones para una vida - 8 Point Rose - Endless Rage

 

 ENDLESS  RAGE

8 Point Rose es una banda sueca de power metal que forma parte de ese grupo de bandas que a pesar de su buen hacer, su calidad, su demostración de potencial han editado un único LP de estudio y han cesado  en sus pretensiones demasiado pronto. Formados en 2002 aunque bajo el nombre de "Evermoore", en 2009 cambian su nombre a 8 Point Rose para editar su único disco de estudio "Primigenia" al año siguiente (2010) y separarse al poco. De nuevo una auténtica lástima ya que su sonido podría haberles llevado muy lejos. Canciones para una vida - White Wizzard - Live Free Or Die

 

LIVE  FREE  OR  DIE

Desde 2007 lleva en activo esta banda estado unidense de heavy metal de la escuela americana y en la onda de grupos como Skull Fist por ejemplo. Así pues, con un trasfondo clásico, y un baño actual desarrollan su sonido a lo largo ya de cuatro LP's de estudio a los que hay que sumar sus dos EP's iniciales. El primero de esos LP's llevó por título "Over the top" editado en 2010, y de dicha obra quiero dejar hoy en el blog su canción "Live free or die" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Axel Rudi Pell - Dark Waves Of The Sea

DARK  WAVES  OF  THE  SEA

 En pleno periodo de espera de la salida del nuevo material del guitarrista alemán "Axel Rudi Pell", en el que será el décimo noveno LP de estudio del grupo parece apropiado rebuscar entre el mucho y buen material de esta extensa discografía, y que mejor que hacerlo buscando una canción que reuna muchos o todos los elementos clásicos y típicos de su sonido estandar. Una de esas canciones puede ser la que hoy dejo en el blog, "Dark Waves Of the sea", del décimo cuarto LP de estudio del grupo, "The Crest", de 2010, una canción larga, uno de los rasgos típicos de muchos de los temas de Axel, en clave de medio tiempo, y que resulta ser una especie de continuación o segunda parte otro tema anterior, "Oceans of time", seguramente la obra que más me gusta de la banda. Canciones para una vida - Heroik - Heart Of Battle

HEART  OF  BATTLE

Heroik es una banda bastante desconocida de Power metal sinfónico proveniente de Canadá. Con una aún muy escasa discografía que se limita a un solo LP de 2010, el grupo si que demuestra sin embargo un potencial que hará las delicias de los amantes del género. Heroik se forma en 2008 y siguen en activo habiendo en ese tiempo editado como digo tan solo un LP, "Heart of Battle" del que hoy quiero dejar un tema en el blog. El sonido de la banda, como ya he mencionado, es un power sinfónico, con un cierto aire en ocasiones del power europeo noventero, y en otras un tanto más moderno o épico incluso. Realmente me parece un disco interesante, y una banda para descubrir y de la que esperemos podamos escuchar alguna obra más. De la única que han publicado, hasta la fecha de esta reseña, hoy quiero dejar en el blog el que da título a la obra,  "Heart of battle", un buen termómetro para ver el potencial de la banda, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Steel Tormentor - Warrior

WARRIOR

Otro nuevo ejemplo de varias cosas al mismo tiempo, primero, estamos ante una banda que, como en tantas ocasiones sucedía, sucede y sucederá tiene una trayectoria detrás, tan desconocida como insistente a juzgar por los años que llevan en la escena internacional, ya que estos irlandeses se forman en 1996, habiendo funcionado en la escena underground europea sobre todo a base de demos, nada menos que siete. En lo otro en lo que son un ejemplo estos chicos es en ese resurgir del sonido clásico que hizo grande al heavy metal en los 80, en el insistir en ese concepto con pocos adornos extra, que se enfrenta en general al concepto power metalero adornado en muchas ocasiones en exceso y que aún sonando fantástico puede dejar un regusto un tanto "artificial" en los oídos de los amantes del heavy de la vieja escuela. Sea como sea, siempre he creído que las cosas no tienen porqué ser excluyentes y cada momento puede llenarse con un tipo de sonido, es mejor no cerrar la mente creo yo, el caso es que "Steel tormentor" echan una mirada a la década anterior a su formación para ceñirse a un concepto "Old school" que sigue volviendo a la escena actual. Steel Tormentor han editado dos LP's oficiales a lo largo de todos estos años, pasando por más de un bache que les ha mantenido en "suspesión" en algunas temporadas pero que parece que siguen en activo hasta hoy en día. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog un tema de su segundo disco de estudio, y último de la banda hasta la fecha de esta reseña, "Return of a king", de 2010, del que hoy destaco la canción "Warrior", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Kivimetsan Druidi - Desolation: White Wolf

DESOLATION: WHITE WOLF

La inagotable cantera finlandesa parece no tener fin, más aún si nos adentramos en el territorio del death metal melódico en todas sus varaiciones, con o sin elementos folk, con o sin elementos sinfónicos, con voces femeninas, con voces masculinas limpias, etc, el número de combinaciones es muy grande. Hoy quiero traer al blog otra de estas bandas, "Kivimetsan Druidi", otro grupo que canta en su idioma natal, y cuya base musical es un death metal melódico con elementos tanto Folk como sinfónicos, una especie de mezcla entre unos Battlelore y unos Turisas, un poco en la linea de lo que hace Crimfall, banda también finlandesa y de la que ya he hablado en el blog. La banda se forma en 2002 y a pesar de ese ya largo recorrido solo han editado 2 LP's, esos si, complementados con tres EP's, el último de ellos editado hace solo poco más de un mes. El sonido de la banda se adivna desde la propia elección del nombre, "Kivimetsan Druidi" que traduciriamos al inglés como "druid of the stone forest", por lo tanto no es de extrañar que la base argumental de sus letras se base en la fantasía. También debo decir que, en realidad, a mi personalmente me cuesta un poco de trabajo "tragarme" un disco entero seguido de esta banda, sobre todo por la linea vocal de la cantante, un tanto "operística", algo que siempre me ha cansado mucho, y cada vez más la verdad, lo cual no quita para reconocer los méritos, que los tiene, de la banda, y que cuando dan en el clavo lo hacen a conciencia, como es el caso para mi gusto del tema que hoy dejo en el blog, "Desolation: White wolf", perteneciente a su segundo LP "Betrayal, Justice, Revenge", de 2010, y del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Royal Jester - Wings Of Tomorrow

WINGS  OF  TOMORROW

Royal Jester es una banda sueca de power metal, uno de esos grupos formados por componentes de otras bandas y que en esta ocasión no cuajó más allá de un único LP, "Night is young" de 2010. Igualmente estamos ante una banda en la que el sonido, la calidad no es el problema, ni mucho menos, sin embargo no han continuado en activo. El grupo se forma en 2008 y se separa tras editar, como decía más arriba, su único LP de 2010. Los componentes en su mayoría provenán de la banda también sueca "Reixeed", de la que ya he hablado en el blog, y con una ya considerable trayectoria. En definitiva, nos encontramos con estos "Royal Jester" ante una banda power, de corte absolutamente europeo, con un toque un tanto sinfónico que roza en ocasiones el sonido "italiano" a lo Turilli etc, aunque con la exquisita escuela sueca siempre presente, que hará las delicias de los amantes del género, es uno de esos grupos, (o mejor dicho proyectos) de los que poco o nada se ha oído hablar y que merece al menos una horita para descubrirlo, a más de uno le convencerá su propuesta, para muestra dejo en el blog un enlace a uno de los temas de este disco de 2010, concretamente a su ""Wings of tomorrow", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Blind Guardian - Valkyries

VALKYRIES

 Blind Guardian se formó en 1984 en Alemania, bajo el nombre de Lucifer's Heritage, con el que funcionaron hasta 1986, en que cambian a Blind Guardian. Los miembros fundadores fueron Hansi Kursch y Andre Olbrich, incorporándose al poco tiempo Thomen Stauch y Marcus Siepen. De ellos solo Thomen Stauch ha dejado la banda en 2005. Algunos otros músicos han pasado por el grupo y grandes colaboraciones como la de Kai Hansen, pero en general Blind Guardian han tenido mucha estabilidad en su formación. Influenciados por la literatura, (sobre todo Tolkien y Stephen King) y el cine, sus letras hacen referencia a esos temas y en ocasiones ayudan a la linea argumental de canciones de la banda o incluso de discos enteros. Tienen ya 10 discos de estudio, a cual mejor, lo que les ha creado un nombre entre los grupos internacionales más respetados dentro de nuestro mundillo. Hoy vamos hacia la parte más reciente de su producción musical al hablar de un disco que a mi personalmente me gusta mucho, se trata de su "At the edge of time", noveno larga duración de la banda y penúltimo disco de estudio hasta la fecha de esta reseña, una obra con todos los ingredientes de Blind Guardian, los de su era gloriosa, uno de sus últimas obras que para mi gusto más se acerca al sonido de sus obras míticas de los 90, un poco más alejado del casi speed metal de los 80 y más cercano al sonido sinfónico del siglo XXI, un buen equilibrio conseguido aquí por la banda alemana, un disco del que quiero hoy dejar otro tema, en esta ocasión  "Valkyries", un tema con todos los ingredientes "Blind Guardian" esperables, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Equilibrium - Der Ewige Sieg

DER EWIGE SIEG

Equilibrium se forma en 2001 y su primera demo ve la luz en 2003, sacando su primer disco de estudio en 2005, el impresionante "Turis Fratyr", menudo debut. Tienen 4 discos de estudio y un EP y en ellos encontrareis muy buenas composiciones influidas por los cuentos germánicos y la mitología escandinava, con inclusión de melodías muy épicas y temas instrumentales hiper épicos. Ya he dicho en varias ocasiones en el blog que la banda es perfecta para mi, su ejecución es impecable con una cuidada composición y épica a raudales, un enorme grupo que debería tener mayor repercusión y reconocimiento atendiendo al gran talento musical que atesoran. Hoy quiero traer al blog su tercera obra de estudio, "Rekreatur" de 2010, otro acierto en una banda que está acostumbrándonos a eso, acierto tras acierto poniéndose el listón muy alto obra tras obra u aun así cumpliendo con las espectativas. Para este "Rekreatur" la banda introduce algunos cambios en la formación pero eso no supone merma alguna en la calidad, que desde el punto de vista de la producción aumenta incluso en su calidad con respecto a sus anteriores obras. Muchos temas a destacar y una sensación de disco completo es lo que me transmite esta obra, aunque como digo, es una buena costumbre de estos chicos. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog el tema "Der ewige sieg", "The Morning After" traducido al inglés, un temazo del que dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Crematory - Sense Of Time

SENSE OF TIME

Ya he hablado en varias ocasiones de esta buena banda alemana en el blog, y de nuevo, a pocos días de que publiquen su nuevo álbum "Monument" que será su decimotercer disco de estudio quiero dejar en el blog un tema de otro de sus discos. Crematory hace una música que se mueve entre el death metal tradicional y el industrial. Se les ha etiquetado como góticos, pero yo creo que hacen una música que recoge elementos de todas esas variantes para crear un estilo personal, y lo logran. Para mi es uno de los grandes en su género y es sin duda una de las bandas que más me gustan haciendo este sonido. Crematory se crea en Alemania en 1991 comenzando a editar discos de estudio en 1993, momento desde el que han sacado a la luz 12 cd's, que han ido evolucionando desde un death más clásico en sus primeros dos discos hasta un sonido más industrial en sus creaciones intermedias y finales. En su música alternan las voces guturales con voces limpias así como canciones o discos enteros cantados en inglés con otros cantados en alemán y a diferencia de otras bandas Crematory conserva practicamente intacta la formación inicial del grupo. A medida que evolucionaron musicalmente fueron haciendo que los teclados fuesen teniendo una mayor presencia hasta llegar a ser toda una seña de identidad de su música. Hoy quiero referirme a su undécimo álbum, "Infinite", de 2010, y de él concretamente a su tema "Sense of time", otra buena canción de su discografía con todos los elementos típicos de la banda y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Rosae Crucis - Crom

CROM

Toda una declaración de intenciones el título de la canción que ahora quiero dejar en el blog, Crom, dios guerrero Cimmerio de la mitología de Conan el Barbaro. Nos encontramos, como no podía ser de otra forma, ante una banda que se autodenomina creadora de un sonido "Epic Heavy Metal", otros True metaleros, pero que teniendo en cuenta su origen, Italia, hacen gala de la escuela épica de su tierra, vemos perfectamente reflejado en su música el concepto de las bandas italianas de los 90 que afloraron como setas bajo el sol de octubre en la escena internacional, solo que esta banda no ha llegado nunca a destacar por algunos motivos, en primer lugar porque, en mi opinión, son el típico ejemplo de banda para temas sueltos más que para discos enteros, además, su concepto ultra macarrilla en ocasiones les hace susceptibles de no ser tomados muy en serio a veces o por mucha gente, en ocasiones parecen recordar incluso a Nanowar of steel además de ello su repercusión no ha sido muy grande a nivel internacional en parte por grabar mucho de su material en su lengua natal. A pesar de todo ello, creo que merecen sin duda la oportunidad de echar un vistazo a su obra pues siempre puedes encontrar sorpresas agradables, como es el caso de este tema, e incluso el disco, este "Fede Potere Vendetta" que en 2009 editaron en una edición "normal", es decir en su lengua natal, y en 2010 editaron en esta edición a la que hoy hago mención, "Overlord edition", en Inglés para un intento de mayor repercusión, para lo que no dudaron en contar con Crhis Boltendhal de Grave Digger colaborando. El grupo se forma en 1990, y funciona durante muchísimos años en la escena underground de su país editando en toda la década de los 90 cuatro demos, hasta 2001, de ahí en adelante 5 LP's han visto la luz, (contando la edición presente en el blog hoy "Overlord edition" como uno de esos LP's), además de un EP. Como digo, el grupo es en mi opinión, es una banda de temas sueltos más que de obras completas, como este "Crom", tema que me gusta por su estructura y sobre todo por su temática, ya me he declarado fanático de la obra de Robert E. Howard, sobre todo de Conan el Bárbaro, y aquí el tema "Crom" coge directamente unas estrofas para comenzar de la película de 1982, para desarrollar el tema después en ese concepto epic heavy metal al que me refiero. Tema este "Crom" de 2010 del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Bloodshed Walhalla - Warrior Of The Northern

WARRIOR OF THE NORTHERN

De nuevo uno de esos grupos de un solo hombre para hoy, es Bloodshed Walhalla, de los que ya he hablado en el blog anteriormente, una banda italiana creada en la mente de "Drakhen", único miembro que se encarga de la composición e interpretación de todas sus obras, y de todos sus instrumentos, incluidas las voces. Con gran influencia de bandas como Bathory su estilo se centra en un viking metal, con una temática de mitología nórdica. En su música le gusta crear una atmósfera densa, con un sonido que en ocasiones nos recordará también a los grandes "Falkenbach". Lleva funcionando desde 2006, aunque hasta 2008 bajo el nombre de "Bloodshed", cambiando a Bloodshed Walhalla en 2008 coincidiendo con el comienzo de la edición de demos, en 2008 y 2009. Tiene dos larga duración editados, uno en 2010, "The legends of a viking", y otro en 2012 "The battle will never end", además de un EP, "Mather" editado en 2015. Hoy me quiero referir de nuevo a su primera obra, "The legends of a viking", la que más me gusta de los dos LP's editados hasta la fecha de esta reseña, y de la que quiero hoy destacar el tema "Warrior of the northern" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Rauhnacht - Auf Zur Schlacht

AUF ZUR SCHLACHT

De nuevo e el blog una de esas bandas en las que un solo músico cubre todas y cada una de las necesidades instrumentistas para crear sus obras, se trata de la banda austriaca Rauhnacht, y el nombre tras la banda es Stefan Traunmuller. Su música se podría acotar en los estilos Black metal melódico, folk metal, aunque al autor de la música le gusta autodefinirse en su facebook como creador de un sonido "Alpine black metal", (será por etiquetas...). La banda es creada en 2010 y desde entonces ha editado 2 LP's y 2 EP's. En sus obras se pueden encontrar interesantes canciones, algunas llenas de matices y siempre con la temática histórico fantástica tradicional en sus letras escritas en alemán. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog un tema de su primer larga duración, "Vorweltschweigen", de 2010, en concreto un tema llamado "Auf zur schlacht", una canción que no se si estará basada en alguna melodía tradicional pero se parece enormemente a un tema de los ingleses "Forefather", al tema "Miri It Is" que por cierto puse en el blog hace tiempo ya, y que no se si igualmente estará basado en esa hipotética misma melodía tradicional pues para mi gusto las coincidencias en el sonido parecen bastante obvias. Sea como sea, gran tema este ""Auf zur schlacht", del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.
