MIRROR  MIRROR

Muchas bandas presumen de ser grupos heavy pero es más un deseo que otra cosa, hay otras, como los británicos Def Leppard, que siempre renegaron de dicho sonido, y sin embargo "High 'n dry" de 1981 se antoja un autentico discazo de la NWOBHM, con seguramente los momento compositivos más contundentes de los británicos, es por ello que a uno siempre le da rabia que no hayan decidido desarrollar su carrera hacia esos derroteros, siempre respetando lo hecho por el grupo, pero algún disco más en esta magnífica onda habría sido de agradecer. Canciones para una vida - Def Leppard - Ride Into The Sun

RIDE  INTO  THE  SUN

Mucho ha cambiado la banda británica Def Leppard desde sus primeros días a los últimos, de poder englobarseles en la NWOBHM al rechazo de la banda por cualquier etiqueta metálica, su carrera ha estado llena de éxitos comerciales que les han ido dando además de dinero fama planetaria a pesar de que su discografía, mirada friamente solo conste de 12 LP's de estudio, ("solo" teniendo en cuenta que comenzaron en 1979), y hoy quiero pararme de nuevo en su mismo comienzo, en su primer EP "The Def Leppard" EP, de 1979, donde ya mostraban hacia donde iban a encaminar sus pasos como por ejemplo a través del tema "Ride into the sun" del que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube. Les guste o no ellos también pusieron su granito de arena en esto del heavy metal.

Canciones para una vida - Def Leppard - Rock Rock Till' You Drop

 

ROCK  ROCK  TILL'  YOU  DROP

Es siempre una lástima que bandas o artistas que al menos en parte le deban su buen nombre musical al heavy metal, terminen por renegar de esa parte de su carrera, de su historia, una cosa es que la evolución compositiva les aleje de sus orígenes, como es el caso de estos británicos, y otra renegar. Los tres primeros discos entre 1980 y 1983 tienen un concepto mucho más guitarrero, siempre en ese límite entre el hard rock y el heavy, El tercer LP, "Pyromania" de 1983, fue un gran disco, bastante guitarrero, con el condimento siempre "Def Leppard" de single facilote y enganchón, pero de vocación mas hard 'n heavy, como sus otras dos primeras obras. De este "pyromania" quiero hoy dejar el tema que lo abre "Rock rock till' you drop", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Def Lepard - Lady Strange

 

LADY  STRANGE

Que gran obra de los británicos, con semejante continuación a su debut no es extraño comprender que su destino era alcanzar el éxito de manera absoluta, a pesar de que en sus inicios el sonido resultase ser mucho más heavy que en sus máximos momentos de ventas, llegando a evolucionar hacia el mismo rock y renegando luego de sus inicios heavy, algo absurdo por completo. Desde luego a los que amamos este sonido del heavy metal seguramente habrá consenso en que alguno de los mejores momentos de la historia de la banda se gestaron en estos primeros esfuerzos compositivos, siendo estos discos iniciales mimbres necesarios y básicos para lo que vino despues para el grupo, ese éxito antes citado. Este segundo disco de la banda, "High 'n dry" de 1981 es una obra mucho más que interesante en su conjunto y de ella se pueden destacar, (y yo en este blog ya lo he hecho) varios de sus temas, como el que dejo en el blog hoy, "Lady Sttrange", una de esas canciones que me han acompañado toda mi vida y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

TOO  LATE  FOR  LOVE

Otra de esas bandas que no necesitan presentación es "Def Leppard", los británicos que comenzaran allá por 1977, y cuyo sonido ha ido saltando desde una imagen sonora cercana al heavy metal  hasta, progresivamente ir haciendose cada vez más hardrockera para terminar diluyendo casi hasta lo de "Hard". A través de las diferentes épocas la banda ha editado un total de once LP's de estudio, practicamente siempre con el éxito de su lado y las ventas haciendo de ellos una de las bandas más "vendedoras". Siempre es respetable una carrera de este calibre, a pesar de que el grupo haya llegado incluso a renegar de sus origenes, pero, sobre todo, la primera parte de su carrera tiene momento esenciales para esto del heavy, lo niegue quien lo niegue, incluso ellos. Hoy quiero de nuevo volver la mirada hacia sus inicios, la época que más me gusta, inevitablemente, de su carrera, para referirme a su tercer LP de estudio "Pyromania", de 1983. Con un cierto regusto Hard N heavy se trata de una obra en la que la banda ya había crecido bastante a nivel internacional y el éxito de ventas de este tercer disco mostró que sin duda alguna el camino a seguir sería el de este album abandonando cada vez más el trasfondo heavy en el camino. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog la canción "Too late for love", uno de sus grandes temas, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Def Leppard es una banda inglesa que se formó en 1977, y a la que se le considera parte de la NWOBHM, aunque su sonido se orientó siempre más hacia el Hard 'n' heavy en sus inicios, al hard rock en su época media y al rock en la parte final de su carrera. La estabilidad en la formación del grupo ha sido siempre una de las señas de identidad en la banda, siendo una de las que menos han variado a sus integrantes con tan larga y exitosa trayectoria. De hecho, una de las cosas más conocidas y admiradas del grupo es la fidelidad que le demostró a su batería de toda la vida Rick Allen, cuando este tuvo un accidente de tráfico en 1984 en el que perdió su brazo izquierdo. Lejos de abandonarlo adaptaron la batería con unos pedales, diseñada en conjunto con el fabricante de baterías electrónicas "Simmons",  y sigue en activo con la banda hasta hoy en día. Como decía la mayoría de los integrantes están juntos desde 1977, El bajista Rick Savage, el cantante y teclista Joe Elliott, y el citado batería Rick Allen. Los otros dos miembros iniciales, los guitarristas Pete Willis y Steve Clark fueron sustituidos por Phil Collen y Vivian Campbell en el 82 y 92 respectivamente. La época inicial de Def Leppard es la que más me gusta, y sus primeros discos tenían una mayor influencia del heavy metal y podrían encuadrarse mejor en el movimiento de la NWOBHM, así los discos "On through the night", de 1980, "High 'n' Dry", de 1981 y "Pyromania", de 1983, fueron los que forjaron el éxito que obtuvieron posteriormente con obras como "Hysteria" en 1987 o "Adrenalize" en 1992, y que les ha llevado a vender más de 100 millones de discos en todo el mundo, teniendo dos de sus albumes "Pyromania" e "Hysteria", la certificación de Disco de diamante que se le da a los que han superado más de 10.000.000 de unidades vendidas. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una canción de su primera época, en concreto de su segundo disco "High 'n' Dry", de 1981, en que encontramos a unos Def Leppard muy energéticos y hambrientos por demostrar todo su potencial, todo un discazo de la mejor época de la banda a mi entender, del que se pueden destacar entre otros, temas como "Lady Strange", "Bringing on the heartbreak", "Let It Go", de la que ya hemos hablado en este blog, o "Another Hit and Run", de la que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Hoy quiero dejar de su debut la canción "Wasted" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube, un vistazo pues a los comienzos de nuestro sonido.
