LADY  OF  THE  DARKEST  NIGHT 

Pionera en una época más complicada que la actual para liderar una banda de heavy, Lee Aaron llegaba a comienzos de los ochenta desde Canada para mostrar al planeta que no era solo una imagen y que su propuesta era tan valida como la de cualquier otra banda independientemente del sexo de sus integrantes. "Metal Queen", de 1984 era el segundo album del grupo y aunque eclipsado por el tema que le daba nombre y al que siempre estuvo supeditada la figura de la cantante, el disco fue algo más, con temas más que interesantes como por ejemplo "Lady of the darkest night" del que dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Lee Aaron - Metal Queen

METAL  QUEEN

Traigo en esta ocasión al blog un tema que merece al menos un repaso, este "Metal Queen" de la cantante Lee Aaron, nombre artístico de la cantante y compositora canadiense Karen Lynn Greening. Para hablar de este tema, del disco de igual título y de la cantante en general, que por cierto en estos días ha publicado una nueva obra tras un tiempo separada de la escena hard rockera, tenemos que tener en cuenta varias cosas. Lo primero a pensar es la época en la que estamos, pues la carrera de Lee Aaron comenzó muy temprano, siendo ella apenas una quinceañera, y en 1982 comenzó a editar su primer material en forma de LP. Este Metal Queen fue su segunda obra con apenas 20 años, y tras haber firmado por una grande como Attic Records, la discográfica vio el filón de la voz, la posibilidad de crear una "heroína dentro del hard-heavy" y a ello se pusieron. Siempre supo rodearse de buenos músicos en sus inicios y así gente relacionada con "Triumph" o "Santers" colaboró con Lee Aaron al tiempo que ella colaboraba con gente de la talla de los propios Kiss por ejemplo. Volviendo al disco, este "Metal Queen", en lo sonoro es una obra que se mueve entre el hard un poco más hacia el Heavy, y sin duda es el trabajo más en esa onda de su carrera que después rolaría hacia el hard de sonido más americano e incluso luego directamente se paso al Jazz, pero esa es otra historia. En cuanto a "Metal Queen", el disco de 1984, deja varios temas a destacar, pero por encima de todos destaca el que da título a la obra y que es el que hoy nos ocupa, un tema en el que, como decía más arriba, la discográfica vio la ocasión de crear un concepto con la cantante, y lograron mucho su objetivo, hasta el punto de que la propia Lee Aaron acabó harta de desmentir que se creyese una "Metal Queen" y de que continuamente se le reclamase solo ese tema por ejemplo, lo que quizá le terminase llevando al Jazz más adelante. Sea como fuere, el tema es digno hijo de la época, 1984, con todos los tópicos que se pueden apreciar en el videoclip oficial, muy cinematográfico por cierto, que ayudó a que el éxito de la canción le hiciese alcanzar buenos puestos en las listas de ventas. En definitiva, un tema interesante que merece una mención en el blog, más en plan hard-heavy, muy enganchón, y del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.
