THE  APPARITION

Nueva visita a una de esas obras de obligada mención, en su conjunto, es uno de esos LP's en los que la mayor parte de la gente está de acuerdo en considerar como un hito no solo en la carrera de la banda sino del heavy metal en general, de haber parido más obras de este nivelón general estaríamos hablando de un grupo tan grande como los mismisimos Maiden. Hablamos por supuesto de los estadounidenses Fates Warning y de su "The spectre Within" de 1985. Es evidente que el toque progresivo de este grupo puede ser más limitador para el gran público que un sonido más directo como por ejemplo el de los mencionados Maiden sobre todo los discos ochenteros, pero la calidad de esta obra, es tan aplastante que a pocos se les debería resistir, otro buen ejemplo es el tema que hoy dejo en el blog, "The Apparition", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

EXODUS

Despues de dejar a propios y extraños con la boca abierta con el enorme "The Spectre within" de 1985, los americanos "Fates Warning" pegaba un nuevo zarpazo en la línea de la citada obra, un digno sucesor de un LP dificilmente repetible, al que titularon "Awaken the guardian", de 1986. está claro que la formación de la banda de sus inicios resultaba practicamente perfecta, y destacaba mucho la labor vocal de John Arch quien dejaría la banda desde este LP en adelante. Como digo estamos en uno de esos momentos irrepetibles y memorables, e igualmente estamos ante una banda que la perspectiva del tiempo les va dando ese peso específico que siempre debieron tener, esto era heavy metal de la escuela americana de alto octanage, de ese demoledor derroche que ha hecho de esa época de la banda una de esas épocas de culto por méritos propios. Es evidente que también han tenido que influir en montones de grupos con mjor o peor suerte, es uno de esos valores intangibles, uno de esos valores seguros y patrimonio de todo metalhead. Buen ejemplo del descomunal momento de forma de la banda es por ejemplo el tema "Exodus", que cierra esta magnífica obra y de la que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Fates Warning - Epitaph

EPITAPH

"The Spectre Within", una de esas obras en las que la mayoría de la gente coincide con señalarla como uno de los mejores momentos de la banda "Fates Warning" y también uno de esos discos perfectos tomado en su conjunto dentro de lo que es el sonido del heavy metal en general. Muchos son los momentos destacables del disco, y desde luego no puedo resistir la tentación de dejar una de mis canciones preferidas de los estadounidenses del disco, y de toda su discografía, "Epitaph", esa larga canción de 12 minutos que es un resumen en si mismo de como hacer heavy metal. El punto progresivo de esta banda, que en la época a la que me refiero hoy era más sutil siendo más contundente su pegada en términos de heavy de la vieja escuela, pues bien, ese punto progresivo va perfecto con esta canción, "Epitaph", de su segunda obra de estudio "The Spectre within" de 1985, y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

TRAVELER IN TIME

Fates Warning es una banda estadounidense de Heavy metal  - power progressive metal que con el paso del tiempo y de los disco editados han ido quedándose más bien en un progressive metal. Resulta que esta banda es una de esas que han resultado claves para entender nuestra música en algunos aspectos, sobre todo en lo que a los inicios de su carrera se refiere, muy probablemente menos reconocida de lo merecido ha resultado ser una gran influencia para muchas de las bandas que hoy llamamos grandes. Este grupo se formó en 1982 aunque bajo la denominación de "Misfit", funcionando con dicho nombre hasta que en 1984 deciden cambiarlo por "Fates Warning". Sus fundadores fueron John Arch como cantante, Jim Matheos a la guitarra al igual que Victor Arduini, el bajista Joe DiBiase y el batería Steve Zimmerman.. En ese mismo 1984 en el que cambian su nombre a "Fates warning" la banda edita su primer LP, "Night of the Brocken", altamente influido por el sonido europeo de la NWOBHM, editado ya a través de la discográfica "Metal Blade". Esta primera obra ya denotaba sin embargo algunos aspectos progresivos que indicaban por donde iban a ir los tiros más adelante. En 1985 editan su segundo LP, "The Spectre within", un autentico discazo que va alcanzando el puesto importante que merece con el paso de los años. En esta segunda obra se puede ver un giro más hacia un sonido progresivo, algo que se irá agudizando a medida que avance su carrera. La tercera obra de estudio, "Awaken the guardian", de 1986, pone punto final a la colaboración de alguno de los miembros del grupo, en concreto el guitarrista Victor Arduini deja la banda siendo sustituido por Frank Aresti. Tras este disco, y en 1987, John Arch vocalista y para muchos la mente tras la banda deja el grupo y se pone punto final a una primera era de la banda, que sin embargo no cesó en su actividad, Arch es sustituido por Ray Alder y en 1988 ve la luz la cuarta obra de la banda "No Exit". En total Fates Warning han editado 11 LP's y un EP a fecha de esta reseña, pero desde luego yo me quiero quedar con la fase inicial del grupo, con el fantástico John Arch como la época que más me llena del grupo. Volviendo a esa época, quiero hoy dejar en el blog una canción de mi disco favorito de Fates Warning, "The Spectre within", de 1985 como decía más arriba, uno de los que muchos consideran uno de los mejores disco de heavy metal de la historia en su conjunto, claro está, opiniones hay para todos los gustos, aunque lo que si parece claro es que se trata de una obra espectacularmente bien compuesta y grandemente influyente para muchas andas de hoy que no tienen ningún problema en mencionar a este disco como inspiración para su música. Grandes temas nos dejaron en este álbum, pero creo que la mayor fuerza del mismo reside en tomarlo como conjunto, eso sí, "Epitaph", "The Apparition", "Pirates of the underground", son temas recurrentes al oir hablar de este disco, también el tema que hoy quiero dejar en el blog, "Traveler in time", que abre la obra, y del que quiero dejar un enlace a youtube. En definitiva, un disco que no tengo duda en que la historia pondrá en el puesto que merece, muy arriba , ya que aún me da la sensación de que esta un poquito menospreciado a juzgar por su valía real.
