A  LITTLE  IS  A  LITTLE  TOO  MUCH 

El pasado 27 de agosto salió definitivamente de forma oficial el nuevo LP de Helloween, "Giants and monsters", la obra destinada a consolidar esta nueva etapa de la banda, de reunión y convivencia, pero con esa dificultad añadida de gestionar los egos de tanto músico consolidado e importante a nivel internacional. La sensación de la obra es que han conseguido el objetivo, de asentarse dando a la banda las garantías de seguir por esta nueva senda emprendida y hoy quiero dejar en el blog otro de los singles con videoclip como es "A little is a little too much" del que dejo un enlace a youtube del mencionado clip oficial.

Segundo adelanto de los gigantes germanos Helloween del nuevo disco de la banda "Giants and monsters" que verá la luz el 29 de agosto de este 2025, siendo el décimo noveno LP de estudio de la banda. Helloween - This Is Tokyo - Canciones Para Una Vida

THIS  IS  TOKYO 

Uno se da cuenta del poder de convocatoria de una banda de las grandes, como Helloween, más un mito que un grupo al uso, cada vez que ofrecen al gran público una nueva propuesta compositiva, y desde el anterior trabajo "Helloween" de 2021, el disco de la reunión y mega refuerzo de la banda, que sirvió para quitarse la curiosidad de hasta donde podía llegar la disparatada idea de un Helloween con tanta gente junta, este disco debe ser el de la confirmación de que la idea es viable, y pueda pensarse en una carrera de la banda a largo plazo con este formato. De momento, de la nueva obra "Giants and monsters" que verá la luz de forma oficial el próximo mes de agosto, nos dejan un primer adelanto, "This is Tokyo" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Helloween - Wake Up The Mountain - Canciones Para Una Vida

WAKE  UP  THE  MOUNTAIN

Repasemos por enésima vez la extensa e importante carrera de los germanos Helloween, otro de esos pilares fundamentales para entender el todo en su conjunto, sobre todo en este caso el power metal. Hoy de nuevo quiero centrarme en la era Deris, en lo que al apartado vocal se refiere, con la segunda obra de estudio de la banda con Andi a la voz. Se trató de "The time of the oath", de 1996, que debía consolidar a la nueva alineación de Helloween y su enfoque compositivo, y vaya si lo hizo, la crítica siempre acogió bien la obra, y es que está llena de grandes temas, por ejemplo "Wake up the mountain" de la que quiero dejar hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Helloween - You Always Walk Alone

 

YOU  ALWAYS  WALK  ALONE

De vuelta al blog uno de los indiscutibles discos imprescindibles del heavy metal, la segunda parte de la dupla "Keeper of the seven keays", para muchos, (yo incluido) una obra perfecta, por lo compositivo e interpretativo y por lo histórico. Hoy me quiero centrar en el tema "You always walk alone", uno de los temas compuestos por Michael Kiske, y que en realidad podría considerarse como una versión ya que la banda, primer hogar del citado Kiske, "Ill Prophecy", que funcionase entre 1984 y 1986, en su única demo editada en 1986 ya presentaba este tema entre sus cinco totales, al igual que "A little time" que formase parte del primero de los "Keeper". La verdad es que siempre he defendido la figura de Kiske como intérprete, porque en general sus incursiones como compositor siempre se me antojaron bastante dificiles de entender, aunque claro, con excepciones, y desde luego, estos temas compuestos a inicios de su carrera, cuando aún no había llegado ese momento de "odio metálico" que atravesó, y que derivó en sus composiciones demasiado personales, fueron de lo mejorcito sin duda, al menos hasta la fecha. Poco más que añadir, que podemos decir de una obra de este calibre, solo dejar un enlace a youtube de este "You always walk alone" de 1988.

Canciones para una vida - Helloween - Initiation & I'm Alive

 

INITIATION  &  I'M  ALIVE

Una vez más estamos ante una obra de las que se antojan fundamentales, uno de esos discos en los que hay consenso sobre la importancia, la calidad y el peso histórico de ella misma y de su continuación del siguiente año, Son los "Keeper of the seven keys". Como digo, estamos en 1987, y a este disco se le otorga la capacidad de cambiar parte de lo que se haría después en el denominado ya power metal, quizá sea demasiado simplista aventurar algo así, pero de lo que no cabe duda es de que su repercusión hizo un enorme favor al subgénero e impactó a más de una generación de forma permanente. Hoy quiero dejar otro de sus temas en el blog, en concreto sutema inicial junto con la intro que lo precede, declaración de intenciones de lo que sería su sonido, y el de "Gamma Ray" tras la salida de Hansen despues de la segunda entrega Keeperiana. HELLOWEEN  - THE  BEST  THE  REST  THE  RARE  -  1991

 El eterno por que de los recopilatorios, porque no es lo mismo uno que otro, el motivo, el momento en el que se decide editar uno, suele ser cuestión de homenaje o de recaudación económica, suele ser digamos honesto o más bien tratando de aprovechar alguna circunstancia que haga más fácil su venta, en vivo, en estudio, con temas clásicos, con rarezas o caras b, vamos, que todo un mundo. En este caso en concreto, creo que el hecho de la salida de Hansen de la banda, precipitó un recopilatorio quizá demasiado prematuro por el número de LP's que la banda llevaba, si bien el hecho del calibre de los citados discos es un argumento importante, pero los acontecimientos y la incertidumbre que generaban pesaron más que lo estrictamente musical. Casi sonando a despedida se hace un recorrido basicamente "Keeperiano" lo que da una pista más de la ambición discografica por hacer caja más que desde el propio punto de vista de homenaje, pero Helloween tenía cuerda para rato, como quedaría demostrado desde ese momento en adelante, con sus luces y sus sombras, aunque de lo que no cabe duda es que aquellos Helloween realmente nunca volverían, ni siquiera con la última reunión a modo de megabanda. La portada una vez más a cargo de Frederick Moulaert, que tan gran legado "calabacístico" dejo entre los metalheads ochentero-noventeros, un Cover artwork que hoy dejo en el blog.

HELLOWEEN  -  WALLS  OF  JERICHO  -  (1985)

Hoy quiero hablar de otra de esas obras que se antojan fundamentales, absolutamente decisivas, para entender una buena parte de lo que ha sucedido a, al menos, una parte de la escena metálica internacional a raiz de su publicación en 1985. Por supuesto se trata de Helloween y de su LP debut "Walls of Jericho". El disco, ya por todos es conocido, resulta ser uno de esos discos que se antojan perfectos, sin descartes, y tratándose de un debut ya se vislumbraba la magnitud de la banda que acababa de nacer. La figura de Hansen era ya alargada y se antojaba fundamental, algo que se confirmaría trás su salida de la banda después de los "Keeper" y con la creación de Gamma Ray. Volviendo al momento concreto del "Walls", esa frescura, ese descaro, casi esa rabia compositiva, junto con el talante gamberro y desenfadado que siempre ha caracterizado a Hansen fue una combinación que terminaría llamando la atención de todo el planeta metálico, y que terminaría convirtiendo a Hansen en uno de los gurús de esto del heavy metal. Como decía más arriba, nigún tema descartable, todo aciertos y una portada a cargo de Uwe Karczewski, dibujante de cabecera de la banda en toda la parte incial de su carrera, y que contribuyó decisivamente también a engrandecer la imagen del grupo, un artísta que falleció este pasado 2021. Hoy dejo en el blog el artwork de esta obra eterna, "Walls of Jericho" de 1985.

HELLOWEEN  -  LIVE IN THE U.K.  -  (1989)

 

Otra de esas obra en directo que tienen para muchos casi la entidad de una obra de estudio es este "Live in the UK" de los alemanes Helloween. Estamos ante una importante obra, una de esas que históricamente no puede no ser importante por varios motivos, por ejemplo, se trata del primer disco en directo oficial de Helloween, perteneciente a la gira presentando la pareja de discos más importantes de su carrera y unos de los discos más importantes de la historia del heavy en general, así mismo, es el último material editado por la banda en que coindieron Hansen y Kiske, quitando por supuesto el reciente disco de reunión de este año 2021. Es, igualmente el único material editado en vivo con hansen y más centrándose en los importantes temas que componen la obra y, además marcó ese punto de inflexión que fue la salida de Hansen de la banda, lo que cambiaría los destinos de muchos músicos, con salidas y entradas nuevas en futuros cercanos o la creación nada menos que de "Gamme Ray". Sirve la obra para ilustrar la saturación que Hansen ha confesado sentir en la presentación en vivo de "los Keeper" a lo largo y ancho del planeta, que terminaría por significar esa salida de la banda. En lo musical, gran selección de temas, como no podía ser de otra manera, aunque un tanto escasa, apenas 45 minutos de directo, eso si, mostrando la magia total que aquellos Helloween tenían, y trayendonos una vez más a la cabeza las preguntas ya para siempre sin respuesta de como habría sido el disco sucesor de los "Keeper" de haber permanecido la banda intacta. Sea como sea dejo hoy en el blog el artwork de la obra, una vez más, como en esa época solia ser, a cargo de Frederick Moulaert. Gran directo de los mejores Helloween, otro clásico imprescindible.

HELLOWEEN  -  KEEPER  OF  THE  SEVEN  KEYS  PART  II  -  (1988)

 

 Si podemos encontrar otra banda más que ha llegado a alcanzar la categoría de mito viviente metálico, bien a gusto podremos pensar en Helloween, y ese mito se debe en gran parte a la época inicial de la banda. Cuando uno piensa en los inicios del grupo se tiene que retrotraer a finales de los 70 con la creación de "Gentry" donde Kai Hansen y Piet Sielk comenzaron a mostrar su capacidad creadora. El nombre de Helloween no aparecerá hasta 1983, momento en que Sielk abandona la banda. En ese caldo de cultivo iban sonando muchos nombres que después se han antojado fundamentales relacionados de una manera u otra con Helloween, así Ralph Scheepers estuvo a punto de formar parte de la banda en 1986, puesto que terminaría ocupando Michael Kiske, Roland Grapow era un músico que se codeaba con el grupo desde su banda de entonces "Rampage" y que sustituiría a Hansen en Helloween tras su salida después de los Keeper, y entre tanto dejaron un debut en forma de LP monumental llamado "Walls of Jericho" en 1985. Parece demasiado para pocos años, un intenso ajatreo que explicaría la tan temprana salida de la banda de Kai Hansen, poco tiempo de vida musical en Helloween en años, pero no en la realidad, sobre todo tras su gira presentando los Keeper que pareció ser el detonante de su salida de la banda. Después formaría en 1989 "Gamma Ray", y que podemos decir... El caso es que volviendo a la terminología de mito, la dupla de LP's "Keeper of the seven keys" habla por si misma, e 1987 y 1988, y trasciende igualmente el propio mundo del heavy metal, por motivos evidentes. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog el "artwork" de la segunda de las partes de tamaña maravilla, de 1988, como decía más arriba, sin descartes, un disco perfecto de inicio a fin, cuya portada fue creada por Uwe Karczewski, quien se encargaría de todos los trabajos desde el inicio hasta los Keeper, un mundo de calabazas que dio idnetidad a la banda. Este mismo artista pondría después portada a otras bandas como "Stormwarrior". En fin, historia viva toda del heavy metal, una de esas obras fundamentales, más allá de los topicos, por derecho y necesidad.

Canciones para una vida - Helloween - Best Time

 

BEST  TIME

No es ninguna sorpresa que una reunión como la de la nueva obra de los alemanes Helloween plasmada en LP, haría correr rios de tinta en este nuestro mundillo metálico, y es que el peso específico de esta banda es enorme, en lo suyo se les da como pioneros, y en la época de los dos hijos pródigos que regresan bajo el nombre mítico para la ocasión (Hansen - Kiske), las obras del 87 y 88 (Keepers) son simplemente y por méritos propioshistoria con mayúsculas del heavy metal en general y del power en particular. Sin embargo, pretender un tercer "Keeper" hoy en día se me antoja un ejercicio de dificil consecución y en cierta medida una tarea entre imposible e injusta hacia los músicos, quienes siendo justos, siempre perderan hagan lo que hagan en esa comparativa. Por otra parte, si somos capaces de acercarnos a la nueva obra, con ese esfuerzo integrativo de todas las épocas de la banda daremos un enfoque más realista y satisfactorio de lo que tenemos entre manos, por otra parte una gran obra, como no podía ser de otra forma ante semejante plantel de músicos. Disco al que enfrentarse sin juicios previos, (algo complicado, lo se), pero que muestra grandes momentos como este "Best Time" que dejo hoy en el blog, tema muy "Unisonico" pero con el aire "Helloweenero" más que reconocible y del que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Helloween - Fear Of The Fallen

 

FEAR  OF  THE  FALLEN

Absolutamente vigente lo dicho en el primer adelanto de la esperada obra reunión de los miticos "Helloween", quienes nos dejan estos días otro de los adelantos de su obra homónima "Helloween" que saldrá a la venta de forma oficial el 18 de junio. El nuevo tema se titula "Fear of the fallen" y en él encontramos más motivos para esperar un importante disco que veremos si encuentra continuidad a largo plazo, o a corto medio en sucesivas obras. Desde luego la idea que mostraba yo en la entrada "Skyfall" no hace sino  acudir de nuevo a mi cabeza, ¿como se repartirán el protagonismo vocal Deris y Kiske?,¿alcanzarán el equilibrio perfecto y necesario para no entrar en conflicto?, sea como sea esta obra será seguramente un regalo para los que amamos el sonido de la banda, de las diferentes épocas, y desde luego de lo que no cabe duda alguna es de la magia compositiva del genio Hansen, cuya figura no hace sino crecer con los años, y este es un paso más en esa dirección de crecimiento. Siempre es un buen momento para repasar obras maestras, siemre hay un motivo para volver a recurrir a ellas y más si cabe si la obra maestra es una obra maestra entre las obras maestras, caso de este "Keeper Part 2" de 1988. Más aún, se antoja muy idoneo recuperar otro de los temas que lo componen en estos tiempos en que los que amamos la formación de esos Helloween estamos ilusionados a tope con la reunificación de la banda para este año en estudio y tras la presentación de su primer single "Skyfall". Volviendo a disco de culto, este Keeper es perfecto de inicio a fin y hoy quiero dejar en el blog otra de sus canciones, hoy "We got the right" de la que dejo un enlace a yotube. Un disco eterno.

Canciones para una vida - Helloween - Skyfall

 

SKYFALL

Parece claro, y lo es, que, una banda de la talla de los alemanes Helloween, poco tiene ya que demostrar tras una carrera llena de obras antológicas y que ha sido capaz de rehacerse de traumas en lo referente a las idas y cambios de miembros fundamentales. Para agigantar más si es posible su leyenda, solo les quedaba la reunificación, casi a modo de reconstrucción, en lo que durante muchos años solo podía ser soñado por los amantes del sonido primigenio de la banda, y de algunos de los momentos más celebrados del grupo como fueron los años de los "Keepers", antes de la salida del genio Hansen. Pero, visto el desarrollo de los acontecimientos, y conocidos los senderos por los que los ya ex miembros iban discurriendo y desarrollando sus carreras, hoy, al hacerse real e inminente la materialización de un material nuevo con todos de nuevo reunidos, y añadiendo otra de las figuras fundamentales que ha sido santo y seña de la banda en adelante como es la figura de Deris, amen de los Grosskopf y Weikath que siempre algo más en la sombra sostuvieron a Helloween también, la duda es razonable y evidente, ¿no serán demasiados gallos para un gallinero?, no lo se, el tiempo lo dirá, el caso es que la obra, de título igualmente evidente, "Helloween" está a punto de ver la luz, (18 de Junio), y las primeras pinceladas ya brillan flamantes, lustrosas, como la marca "Helloween" requiere y merece, en forma de su primer single "Skyfall", tema del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

A  LITTLE  TIME

La cosa va de clásicos en las últimas entradas, un valor seguro, y si hablamos de clásicos no pueden faltar "Helloween" en la etapa en que seguía Kai Hansen y aún Michael Kiske, en la primare de las dos partes que llevaron el nombre de "Keeper of the seven keays", dupla de albumes míticos que por derecho propio estarán por siempre entre lo más grande de nuestro sonido. El primero de los discos de la citada dupla se edita en 1987 y hoy, para no repetirme en exceso de lo ya dicho con anterioridad sobre la obra, quiero dejar en el blog otro de esos temazos que la componen de inicio a fin, en esta ocasión "A little time" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Helloween - Hell Was Made In Heaven

HELL  WAS  MADE  IN  HEAVEN

 En plena recogida de frutos de la reunión de todos los miembros más icónicos de todas las épocas de la banda alemana "Helloween", es siempre buen momento para echar un vistazo a tras a la discografía extensa y de calidad de una de las bandas grandes entre las grandes. Me refería a la recogida de frutos en forma de un próximo disco en vivo concerniente a la gira de reunión de todos los miembros en pasado año. Es evidente que la sola mención del nombre de una banda tan grande ha de servir en si misma para generar expectación y ventas, y con ese condicionante de la reunión se incrementará aún más si cabe ese efecto, pero el dinero es el dinero, y es comprensible por otro lado explotar tal filón. Hoy quiero, con excusa de lo mencionado recuperar otra canción de Helloween en el blog, en concreto de la época de Deris, de hecho en un momento de la banda en el que este cantante estaba ya más que afianzado, pues en la época de este "Rabbit don't come easy", (2003), llevaba ya casi una década como frontman del grupo. Buen disco del que dejo hoy este "Hell was made in heaven" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Helloween - Invitation & Eagle Fly Free

INVITATION  &  EAGLE  FLY  FREE

 Si hay una obra que destaca entre todas, más que nada refiriéndome al heavy o power metal, por la aceptación general en toda la comunidad metálica, por la calidad indiscutible, por la importancia que tuvo en el desarrollo del estilo y por muchos otros motivos ese disco es el "Keeper 2" de Helloween. Es una de esas obras que resultan simplemente perfectas, en cada uno de sus temas, que sin duda practicamente todos podrían formar parte de un recopilatorio de lo mejor del año 1988. Para no caer más en la repetición dejaré hoy en el blog la quinta canción ya de este álbum, concretamente "Eagle fly free", otro de esos temas que forman parte de la banda sonora de la vida de muchos "metalheads", y de la que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Helloween - Stay Crazy

STAY  CRAZY

2017 fue el año de la gira-reunión de muchos de los miembros de Helloween de todos los tiempos, 2016 el de una recopilación de los temas antiguos y 2017 de una recopilación general pero más allá del single "Pumpkins United" también de 2017 con ese tema nuevo celebrando la gira reunión la verdad es que ya han pasado casi tres años desde la edición de su último LP, "My God Given Right" de 2015, el décimo séptimo larga duración de la banda en 35 años de historia, a fecha de esta reseña. No he leído nada al respecto pero imagino que pronto nos obsequiarán con una obra nueva ya que nunca han tardado más de tres años en dejarnos un disco nuevo. Mientras esperamos acontecimientos es siempre buena idea rescatar material ya editado de una banda tan icónica, importante e influyente como Helloween, y hoy quiero destacar otro de los temas de su última obra editada, "My god given right", como digo de 2015, en concreto la canción "Stay Crazy", con todos los ingredientes de la banda en su justa medida y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Helloween - How Many Tears

HOW  MANY  TEARS

Nuevamente en el blog uno de esos albumes en los que todo el mundo esta de acuerdo en poner el adjetivo de fundamental. La primera obra en formato LP de Helloween, "Walls of Jericho", de 1985. Realmente no voy a volver a repetir una vez más todo lo dicho en anteriores entradas sobre esta obra, completa, por aquel entonces enormemente prometedora, posteriormente tremendamente influyente en estilos,y bandas concretas, un punto de partida para otras cosas, y en definitiva un ejemplo de como hacer las cosas bien y una buena explicación de como una banda como Helloween ha llegado donde ha llegado y una figura como Kai Hansen tiene una reputación como la que posee. Otro de los temazos del álbum, "How many tears", ejemplo de "speed metal" de manual, y de como terminaría por evolucionar hacia el power metal posterior tratado con la fórmula "Helloweeniana". Dejo un enlace a youtube de "How many tears", un clásico en definitiva de esos que es un placer y un deber a partes iguales desempolvar de cuando en cuando.

PUMPKINS  UNITED

Está fuera de toda duda la capacidad casi absoluta que una banda del tamaño musical de Helloween tiene para captar la atención universal del gran público, más si meten elementos sentimentales tales como la reunión de todas las épocas de la banda en un solo escenario, o en un solo estudio. Desde luego ese es en si mismo caramelo suficiente como para que uno se lance con, a partes iguales miedo e ilusión, a escuchar el material que pueda surgir de ese experimento. Si todo ello deriva en una gira con ellos de la mano, de hecho la parte posible físicamente de la formación de los "Keeper" estará de nuevo al mismo tiempo en un escenario, sumando a por ejemplo Deris, un reclamo más que suficiente para que se convierta en uno de los eventos musicales del año. Igualmente es el caldo de cultivo perfecto para que la banda edite un super recopilatorio a principios de noviembre con el título "Sweet seductions" donde se hace un repaso completo a su carrera a lo largo de tres cd's y un dvd con sus clips. Otra operación perfecta de marketing que a más de uno le alegrará las vacaciones, en lo sentimental, (fans), y en lo económico, (banda y discográfica). Sea como fuere el grupo además ha grabado un tema especial para la ocasión, una muestra más de la perfecta ingeniería de venta de un grupo de este tamaño, no tanto desde el punto de vista compositivo, que a mí me ha parecido un tanto normal, sino de la practicidad y el diseño comercial. Hoy quiero traer al blog ese tema por todo lo anteriormente citado, más que por lo musical como digo, aunque también, al fin donde se junten talentos de esta categoría siempre hay que estar.
