START THE FIRE

Metal Church es otra de esas bandas estadounidenses nacidas a principios de los 80 en la cantera musical de la Bay Area de San Francisco, por lo tanto su influencia thrash existe aunque no sea tan evidente como en otras bandas que surgieron en esa época y lugar, dejándole influir también por el heavy clásico e incluso el power metal. Metal Church nace en 1980 bajo el nombre de "Shrapnel" con el que graban un par de demos. La banda la crea el guitarrista Kurdt Vanderhoof, que fue completando su grupo con otros músicos, incluido el vocalista David Wayne en 1982, pareja que marcaría su sello en esa primera parte de la historia de la banda, hasta 1988. Vanderhoof volvería al grupo en 1998 para permanecer ya en la banda hasta la actualidad, y Wayne volvería en el 98 también para en 2001 sacar un proyecto en solitario bajo el nombre de "Wayne" y curiosamente con el título del disco "Metal church". En 2005 este músico murió. Volvamos al grupo, a pesar de la marcha y vuelta de algunos de sus más carismáticos integrantes, la banda ha estado sacando material con o sin ellos ininterrumpidamente, habiendo editado 10 obras de estudio hasta la fecha de esta reseña, la primera en 1984, "Metal church", y la última en 2013 "Generation nothing". Hoy quiero dejar una canción de su primera época, en concreto de su segunda obra de estudio con Vanderhoof y Wayne, del disco "The Dark", de 1986, y de ella la canción "Start the fire", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.
