Vamos con uno de esos casos de banda que aparentemente llega tarde al sonido que crea en comparación con la tendencia vigente en el momento de su publicación, en este caso de nuevo nos dirigimos a la escena estadounidense y al género del heavy metal de corte clásico para destacar el único trabajo de una de las varias bandas que escogieron el nombre de Alliance para editar música. Estamos hablando de 1994 cuando editan este "No face value", una obra que atendiendo a su año de publicación y al genero escogido queda claro que resultaba un tanto "anticuado" en ese momento y era demasiado temprano para que el gran público viese una vuelta a las raices cuando apenas se acababa de desechar ese concepto apenas un lustro atrás. De cualquier forma estamos ante un sonido magnífico si te gusta ese concepto, y ante la única obra publicada por la banda y de la que dejo hoy uno de sus temas, "Never be free" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Maestitium - Song Of The Freezing Wind

SONG  OF  THE  FREEZING  WIND

Los suecos Maestitium, o lo que es lo mismo Elias Westrin, el hombre tras la banda, pues estamos ante una de esas bandas de un solo hombre que se encarga de absolutamente todo, editó su primer material de estudio en formato EP el pasado 2021 y he de decir que me dejó un gratísimo sabor de boca y desde entonces sigo con impaciencia su siguiente paso al frente, esperemos que pronto y que sea además en formato LP. Hablamos de death melódico, con la calidad compositiva e interpretativa como objetivo, un cierto aire épico, nórdico, como no podía ser de otra manera. El citado EP, que lleva por título "Tale of the endless" cuenta solo con cinco temas que se antojan pocos, de ahí el deseo de que edite algo más sobre todo si sigue la línea de lo que ya ha publicado. Canciones para una vida - Rush - 2112

 

 2112

Vamos de nuevo con algo de repaso histórico, y claro, hablando de precursores, de bandas que contribuyeron con su sonido a lo que luego se llamaría Heavy Metal, los canadienses Rush no deberían faltar nunca, con sobre todo ese componente progresivo que hace de sus obras algo completo, complejo, variado y siempre derrochador de calidad. Hoy quiero fijarme en su cuarta obra de estudio, "2112" de 1976, un disco importante, magnífico y de él quiero dejar este tema para aquellos que quieran vivir una auténtica historia, un tema conceptual largo, muy largo, 22 minutos, que resulta ser un temazo, completo, demostrando todo lo que esta banda era capaz de hacer ya en esos años, hoy en día puede resultar más común meterse en ese mundo conceptual, en 1976 era más innovador. Nos narra el tema una historia galactica, donde se utiliza la música, a través de la guitarra como medio y propósito de libertad, todo un canto a la libertad. La variedad mostrada, la capacidad de potencia y melodía, de pasages instrumentales es alucinante, altamente recomandable si eres capaz de mantener la atención durante esos citados 22 minutos, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial que hace más sencilla su comprensión en un clip también digno de ser visionado. Rush, otra joya histórica que por cierto siguió en activo hasta 2018.

Ya en 2018 esta banda de solo un par de miembros nos dejó un grandísimo sabor de boca con su debut "Down the white waters", y en el pasado 2022 edito una más que digna continuación que muestra además un cierto crecimiento y una perpetuación en su concepto con ese aire folk, épico, y un tanto progresivo, atmosférico, se nota ese ambiente un tanto melancólico, buena ejecución, grandes composiciones y líricas evocadoras. ERUPTION

Siguiendo con el repaso de la historia de nuestro sonido volvamos de nuevo a la década de los setenta para rescatar la primera obra de los estadounidenses Van Halen, una banda que se alejó en muchos sentidos del heavy metal como tal pero que merece una mención especial por lo que su sonido representó en la por entonces joven escena metálica que comenzaba a dar sus primeros pasos y es que, en 1978 el album homónimo al nombre de la banda, ofrecía novedades en técnica sobre todo, tanto en la manera novedosa de grabar el disco, aun siendo en estudio se le dio un aire de directo a través de efectos a la hora de producirlo, como en la técnica innovadora por entonces que el genial guitarrista utilizó y popularizó, la técnica del "Tapping", o la técnica en la que ambas manos tocan en el mastil de la guitarra, se dice que hasta tal punto era novedoso que en sus primeros conciertos en vivo tocaba los solos de espaldas al publico para no mostrar como lo hacía. El caso es que que mejor manera de rendir homenaje a ese trocito de nuestra historia que dejando el breve pero carismático tema instrumental "Eruption", recordemos que estamos en 1978, un tema sin duda adelantado a su época del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - New Horizon - King Of Kings

KING  OF  KINGS

Segundo trabajo para el proyecto sueco New Horizon que involucra a dos músicos, Jona Tee, ex de H.E.A.T. en la parte instrumental y Nils Molin (Dynazty) en la vocal, este último enrolado en el proyecto en este 2024 tras la marcha de Eric Gronwall, (H.E.A.T.) que tomase las riendas vocales en el debut. Hablamos de un heavy power melódico, pulcro en lo que a producción se refiere, como es tradición en la escuela sueca, y que en esta continuación parece seguir el mismo sendero en su "Conquerors" que verá su salida oficial el 14 de junio. Canciones para una vida - Deep Purple - Stormbringer

 

STORMBRINGER

Volvamos al repaso histórico, rescatando hoy el séptimo LP de la discografía de los legendarios Purple, es el disco que terminó por marcar la salida de Blackmore de la banda, una obra en la que Coverdale y Hughes que mediaban su estancia en la banda para esta obra, "Stormbringer" de 1974, ya que estarían en Purple entre 1973 y 1976, quizá influyeron o tuvieron demasiado peso compositivo - interpretativo en el grupo, algo a lo que Blackmore no estaba acostumbrado, y seguramente terminó por ser la gota que colmó el vaso para su salida de grupo y formar su propio grupo nuevo, ni más ni menos que Rainbow. El caso es que la dirección del grupo cambiaba sin remisión, pero hablamos de auténticos maestros, todos, músicos de peso, influyentes, históricos, y por ello esta obra es muy necesaria, recomendable y desde luego para tener en cuenta en la historia global de nuestro sonido. Recién salido a la venta de forma oficial, "Warriors" es el undécimo LP de estudio de los alemanes Feuerschwanz, quienes demuestran una vez más el crecimiento sin mesura y sin aparentes límites que obra tras obra van alcanzando. Ya he hablado en el blog de su cambio de enfoque y de lo bien que eso les ha sentado, más metálicos, más serios aunque sin renunciar a las raices por supuesto, y cada vez más internacionales incluyendo cada vez más inglés en sus canciones y en este disco tan especial incluyen versiones propias en ingles de temas cantados en alemán en su momento y otras versiones ajenas como la que dejo hoy en el blog su versiòn de "Valhalla Calling" original de Miracle of sound y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Riot - Overdrive

 

OVERDRIVE

Si a alguien le faltasen motivos para echar un vistazo a la etapa llamemosla pre heavy metálica, (apelativo no de mi agrado ya que siempre defenderé lo progresivo del asentamiento del sonido mencionado), la simple escucha de esta obra, el debut de los estadounidenses Riot, "Rock city" de 1977, debería ser motivo suficiente para cambiar de idea y sentir lo fundamental de conocer el porque de las cosas, el origen para entender el conjunto, y en este caso concreto además creo que estamos ante un disco adelantado a su época, pionero, influyente y como la propia banda en si absolutamente infravalorado en su reconocimiento general. Mires donde mires la obra es completa, contundente, enorme, destinada a una grandeza que desde lo compositivo y lo interpretativo alcanzó pero a la que le faltó el reconocimiento mencionado. Con momentos simplemente perfectos como el mega himno "Warrior", que terminará trayendo al blog antes o después o por ejemplo este "Overdrive" que hoy dejo a través de este enlace a youtube, Riot, un crimen no amar su sonido.

Canciones para una vida - Accept - Frankenstein

 

FRANKENSTEIN

"Humanoid" supone ya el décimo Séptimo LP de estudio de la banda germana Accept, uno de esos grupos que han sabido sobrevivir, aunque con ciertas dificultades durante un par de lustros, la etapa post UDO, al paso del tiempo, siendo sin lugar a dudas una de las bandas cuya influencia se antoja clave para entender el desarrollo del heavy metal como tal. Tras su recuperación definitiva en 2010 con la incorporación de Mark Tornillo, se nota que las piezas de la maquinaria Accept estan absolutamente engrasadas y que la banda está de nuevo asentada en lo que a confianza se refiere recuperando obra tras obra la importancia internacional como grupo que en principio tuvo. Como digo, "Humanoid" de este 2024 es buena prueba de ello, haciendo de nuevo propio el sonido Accept tan imitado a lo largo de las décadas el grupo ha dado a sus seguidores otro completo album en su estilo, del que hoy dejo en el blog su tema "Frankenstein", tema que será facil corear en vivo y del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

ASCENDING  GROM  THE  FIRE

Battledragon es una banda finlandesa de esas que han llegado al panorama metálico de un forma menos convencional, comenzando por hacer durante unos años versiones de canciones ajenas al heavy metal entre 2014 y 2018 para desde ese año en adelante comanzar en una senda  más propiamente dicha de nuestro género, en este caso enmarcando su sonido en un power melódico que de momento solo se ha plasmado en una buena colección de singles hasta 2022, concretamente 10, el último de ellos de 2022 y lleva por título "Ascending from the fire", como el resto de sus creaciones auto producidas, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

QUESTIONS

Vamos con un nuevo repaso a la prehistoria metálica para rescatar a otra banda de las pioneras, de las que fueron abriendo camino y contribuyeron con su granito de arena al crecimiento del heavy metal hasta llegar a lo que fue, es y será, un enfoque desde ese hard n' heavy setentero. Estamos de nuevo hablando de la escena estadounidense, de la banda Bang que como otras muchas ha tenido varias épocas de actividad, la primera entre 1969 y 1980, con tres LP's de estudio, una segunda entre 1996 y 2004 con otros dos LP's y una tercera desde 2013 hasta la actualidad con otros dos LP's. Hoy recupero su primer material en formato LP, de título identico al nombre de la banda, de 1972 y del que dejo el tema "Questions" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Chainory - Rise Of Thor

RISE  OF  THOR

La escena sueca es y lleva mucho tiempo siendo una de las importantes a nivel internacional, destacando por encima de todo por su calidad, por la atención a la producción y esa aparente facilidad para componer con garantías de éxito, pero como sucede en el resto de escenas en los tiempos que corren no hay espacio suficiente para todas las bandas que nacen, y los músicos deben buscarse la vida para dar salida a sus ideas, muchas veces auto produciéndose las obras y a través de formatos como singles o EP's de manera que les resulte más posible meter mano a la escena de alguna manera. Chainory podría sin duda entrar en esa categoría, de momento una banda de nueva formación (2023), que se ha lanzado a editar singles desde ese mismo año 2023, un total de tres, y uno ya en este 2024. Hablamos de un power metal bastante europeo, muy de su escena, y una promesa una vez más de que de recibir un poco de apoyo podrían alcanzar altas metas, hoy dejo en el blog uno de esos singles de 2023, "Rise of thor" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

THE  WOLF  YOU  FEED

La fantástica guitarrista estadounidense Nita Strauss es una de esas artístas que ha ido creciendo como tal a lo largo de los pasados años militando en los diferentes proyectos y bandas con nombres de toda la vida e importantes, antes de empezar a dar pasos en solitario bajo su propio nombre desde 2017 en adelante. Estamos ante una propuesta de heavy metal con aire progresivo y el inevitable toque Sherd que a los guitarristas virtuosos es casi imposible que no les termine pudiendo. Desde ese 2017 dos LP's de estudio y varios singles han ido dando forma a una carrera que aún está apenas comenzando, sobre todo a este nivel que no hace sino aumentar y ganar en repercusión, porque además de la evidente capacidad compositiva e interpretativa que queda patente enseguida, esta artista tiene el buen acierto de "arrimarse" a colaboraciones que le hacen sumar aún más, como en el caso de la canción que dejo hoy en el blog de su segundo LP, "The call of the void", de 2023, el tema "the wolf you feed" donde une fuerzas con la espectacular Alissa White Gluz en un derroche de energía y calidad, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial, magnífico para los oidos y también para la vista, por que no decirlo.

Canciones para una vida - Skiltron - The Battle Is My Own

THE  BATTLE  IS  MY  OWN

Vamos con otro de los temas del sexto y a fecha de esta reseña último LP de estudio de los argentinos Skiltron, un grupo al que le está realmente costando levantar cabeza desde su casi desmembramiento total en 2011 pero que con tesón y trabajo ya ha grabado su tercer album desde que se dio esa circunstancia. El último LP lleva por título "Bruadarach" y due editado el primero de diciembre del pasado 2023 y hoy quiero dejar en el blog otro de sus temas, "The battle is my own" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.
