CREATURES  OF  THE  HUNT

Vamos con otra banda más polaca en una escena que está también francamente en alza en lo que a bandas de heavy metal de regusto clásico se refiere. Hoy son Axe Crazy, formados en 2010 y que a fecha de esta reseña han editado 3 LP's de estudio (2016, 2019 y 2023) además de su EP inicial de 2014. Como digo hablamos de heavy metal de regusto clásico habiendo tenido varios cambios en su formación desde sus comienzos, algunos de ellos en puestos notables como el del cantante. Para comienzos de octubre se espera la nueva obra de los italianos Wind Rose, el que será ya su sexto LP de estudio "Trollslayer", una banda que sobre todo desde 2015 ha crecido de manera exponencial reclutando fans de manera constante y sin pausa. El giro que dieron compositivo desde el power con un toque incluso progresivo de sus inicios a ese personal power folk adquiriendo una temática épica con warhammer, Tolkien y los Enanos como hilo argumental sin duda les sentó de maravilla, y este sexto episodio de su carrera parece encaminado a seguir y perpetuar esta tendencia. Canciones para una vida - Lux Perpetua - Conan

 

CONAN

Los polacos Lux Perpetua ya me dejaron en el pasado un grandísimo sabor de boca con su debut en formato LP "The curse of the iron king", de 2017, una obra en clave de power metal que me hizo poner el foco en ellos y de vez en cuando visito su actividad con la esperanza de ver un sucesor a dicho debut que por otra parte parece no llegar nunca, una pena si se quedan en solo esa magnífica obra pero habiendo pasado ya siete años desde entonces empiezo a temer por su continuidad. De todas maneras, echando un vistazo a su primer material editado, "Forever we stand" en formato EP, de 2014, no he podido resistirme a escucharlo, y en cuanto he leido el nombre de su tema central "Conan" me ha faltado tiempo para sumergirme en uno de mis personajes preferidos, máxime al encontrarme estractos de la banda sonora original de la pelicula original del 82, inmenso Basil Poledouris en esta una de las mejores bandas sonoras para mi gusto de la historia del cine, el caso es que el tema después evoluciona al margen de la melodía mencionada, yendo y viniendo, pero ese aura épica permanece así que no he podido resistirme a dejarlo en el blog.

Canciones para una vida - Satan's Fall - Dark Star

DARK  STAR

Satan's Fall son otra banda de las creadas en la década de los 10 del presente siglo y una vez más es otra de las bandas que han escogido recrear el sonido clásico, en una clave de heavy old school. Creados en Finlandia en 2015 han editado ya a fecha de esta reseña dos LP's de estudio (2020 y 2023) además del EP inicial de 2016. Como digo la mirada al sonido clásico esta absolutamente presente aquí, y en general han sido muchisimas las bandas que en los últimos lustros han decidido seguir ese camino, es evidente que el sonido sin adornos, solo a base de percusión cuerdas y voz tiene ese punto de autenticidad que es de agradecer siempre pero que se antoja particularmente acertado a la hora de presentar los trabajos de las bandas en directo. Canciones para una vida - Heathen Kings - A Song For Denethor

 

A  SONG  FOR  DENETHOR

Heathen kings es una banda británica de reciente formación (2020) que en el pasado 2023 editaron su primer y a fecha de esta reseña único LP de estudio, "Fealty to none". Estamos hablando de un heavy metal con alguna cierta pretensión power, con una actitud épica. Cuentan en su formación con tres guitarrista a lo que sumar bajo batería y voz, así pues el concepto old school parece claro. Para nada estamos ante un sonido innovador, practican un sonido clásico podríamos decir. Canciones para una vida - Zotl - Day By Night

DAY  BY  NIGHT

En muchas ocasiones salirse del camino más marcado, de las rutas más evidentes y mirar más profundamente, hacia lo pequeño, hace que te encuentres auténticos tesoros, en este caso obras que han pasado completamente desapercibidas para la gran mayoría, pero que guardan ese tremendo potencial que habría podido hacer que sus dueños compositivos hubiesen tenido una carrera al más alto nivel. En esta ocasión hablamos de la banda alemana Zotl, que edita a comienzos de los 90 su único trabajo de estudio "Zotl", de 1992, en un estilo quizá que llegaba un pelín tarde a su publicación, un hard 'n heavy melódico, con frontwoman, melodias ochenteras en un momento de cambios que no favorecía ese estilo precisamente, sin embargo que buen disco, que pena una vez más, podrían sin duda haber llegado alto sobre todo seis o siete años antes. Canciones para una vida - Kvaen - The Wings Of Death

THE  WINGS  OF  DEATH

Una nueva banda de las que son en si mismas obra de un solo músico, en esta ocasión son "Kvaen" desde Suecia y la mente tras la banda es Jacob Bjornfot. Nos movemos en ese terreno del black death metal de corte folk y épico, de temática pagana, con melodías continuas que crean ese efecto sonoro adictivo, un grupo formado en 2019, que desde su formación ha editado ya tres LP's de estudio, el último de ellos "The formless fires" a finales del pasado mes de junio. La fórmula no es nueva, tanto en lo compositivo como en el formato de banda mono miembro, pero merece la pena darle una escucha a la propuesta de Kvaen, hoy dejo uno de los temas de su último album a fecha de esta reseña, concretamente "The wings of death" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Starborn - Beneath The Iron Sky

BENEATH  THE  IRON  SKY

Starborn es una banda británica formada en 2012 y que permaneció en activo hasta el pasado 2023 editando un único LP de estudio en 2019 "Savage Peace" al que añadir un EP "The dreaming city" en 2015. Sonido a medio camino de varias cosas, de varias escuelas, así encontramos elementos heavy power de ambos lados del charco, algún ramalazo progresivo americano y algo de speed metal, toda una mezcla que hace de la escucha de su propuesta un ejercicio entretenido, nada monótono, y pone de relieve una vez más que la calidad no es siempre la respuesta para asegurarse el éxito, estos chicos con buen trabajo en casi todos los apartados, se separan como tantas otras bandas apenas antes de asomar la cabeza. Canciones para una vida - Black Sabbath - Heaven And Hell

HEAVEN  AND  HELL

De vuelta a los clásicos Black Sabbath ha de tener un puesto predominante como algunos otros grandes, históricos e influyentes nombres, y hoy rescataremos de nuevo uno de esos albumes importantes en sí mismos desde una perspectiva general, y también particular para la banda que en 1980, para abrir época, lanzaba su primer album sin Ozzy a la voz, tras su salida del grupo en 1977 para empezar su carrera en solitario tras la deriva negativa que venía teniendo el grupo británico en los últimos albumes, las luchas de poder interno así como el decadente abuso de sustancias de la mano del éxito desembocaría en la entrada de Dio en el grupo para editar su primer LP, este "Heaven and hell" en 1980, y que terminaría por ser una obra incontestablemente magnífica, influyente, innovadora dentro del estilo propio de Sabbath hasta ese momento, ahora con Dio más heavy, menos oscura, pesada doom, y claro, muy espejo en el que mirarse para la explosión de heavy metal planetaria que ya se venía gestando y que desde ahí explotaría en esos primeros años de la década de los 80. Canciones para una vida - Trowsholm - Bury Me By The Sea

BURY  ME  BY  THE  SEA 

A finales del pasado 2023 vio la luz el primer LP de estudio de los escoceses Trowsholm, una muestra del influjo que sus compatriotas Alestorm han ejercido ya sobre muchas bandas, algunas de ellas también escocesas. Se trata de una banda de una banda de reciente formación, que comienza a editar material de estudio en formato EP en 2022, seguido de una buena colección de singles en 2023, que culminaría con el citado debut en ese formato a mitad de diciembre y titulado como la banda "Trowsholm". Así pues folk metal, con un ambiente corsariete, algo festivo y proalcoholico del que dejo hoy muestra en el blog de su debut en formato LP a través del tema "Bury me by the sea" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

FOLLOW  THE  TEARS

Heaven and Hell fue una colaboración entre Iommi y Dio, que solo con la formación que presenta, aparte de los dos citados, Vinnie Appice a la batería y Geezer Butler al bajo, y el título que dieron a la banda, el hecho de pensar en Black Sabbath es no solo inevitable sino además obligado, después, al escucharlo te das cuenta de que no es que esté ni lejos ni cerca, simplemente es una evolución, y algo por el peso histórico del sonido al que nos referimos merece la pena escuchar si es que no lo has hecho. Así pues heavy metal con galones, por el peso específico de los músicos, con un cierto aire oscuro. El grupo se forma en 2006, y dio de si hasta 2010 cuando el mito Ronnie James Dio muere, dejando solo el fruto de un LP de estudio en 2009 "The devil you know" del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de sus canciones, "Follow The Tears", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Eclipse - The Spark

THE  SPARK

Finalmente esa serie de singles que han ido adelantando los suecos van a plasmarse en un nuevo LP de estudio para finales de verano, la segunda parte de "Megalomanium" de 2023, será "Megalomaniium" y verá la luz exactamente el 20 de septiembre, siendo ya su décimo LP de estudio. Poco más que añadir, el sonido de la obra promete seguir la línea tan acabada, tan perfeccionada y tan bien acogida del resto de su carrera, y a juzgar por su adelanto "The Spark", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Chalice - Take It Away

TAKE  IT  AWAY

Chalice, banda estadounidense ochentera, otro grupo más que no pudo, o no quiso, o no le dejaron, vete a saber, ir más allá de un single, un par de temas como muestra de un potencial que solo se quedaría en eso, una vez más una lástima, hablamos de los mismos inicios de la citada década, y en 1981 editan ese par de temas, en ese sonido a medio camino del heavy y el hard rock, con el citado potencial completamente evidente, que mejor manera para saberlo que escucharlo, dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube de este "Take it away", otro grupo desaparecido apenas después de nacer, otro de tantos.

Canciones para una vida - Judas Priest - Beyond The Realms Of Death

BEYOND  THE  REALMS  OF  DEATH

Un motivo más para haber incluido una etiqueta extra en el blog con las bandas anteriores a 1979, y es que para entender globalmente este bendito sonido no podemos prescindir de ninguna parte de su historia, particularmente de sus comienzos, del momento en que se crea como tal. Y de esa época, si hay una banda con mayúsculas en cuanto a sonido y ya trayectoria esos fueron Judas Priest, de entre sus discos setenteros hoy quiero rescatar el cuarto, "Stained Class", de 1978, una obra de nuevo antológica, importante para el propio grupo por detalles compositivos y estéticos, como el estreno de su logo definitivo, e igualmente por lo influyente en el futuro de bandas y sonido mismo heavy metal. De los muchos temas que se pueden destacar hoy quiero hacerlo con la fantástica "Beyond the realms of death", en clave de balada - medio tiempo - o balada energética por momentos, temazo tremendo del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Vamos con otra banda más que apunta al sonido clásico heavy metal, el de la vieja escuela, para desarrollar su carrera, son los estadounidenses Lady Beast, formados en 2009, han editado hasta el momento cuatro LP's de estudio más dos EP's, lo que les da ya una cierta consistencia como banda. se trata de un grupo que tiene como cabeza visible a una cantante, Deborah Levine, quien canta de una forma absolutamente heavy, lejos de las tesituras tanto operísticas como demasiado modernas, algo en ambos casos bueno personalmente. Su primera obra de título igual a la banda, "Lady Beast" data de 2012 y de ella quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus temas, y que mejor que el que da nombre a la obra y a la banda, "Lady Beast", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.
