GHOST  OF  CHRISTMAS  PAST

Segundo paso de estos ya veteranos, (no por edad pero si por trayectoria).  músicos que en el pasado 2019 dieran un giro a su carrera, más que en lo compositivo y sonoro, en lo referente a intentar recomenzar, para lo cual, cambiaron su nombre a "Majestica" del anterior "Reinxeed". Igualmente parece que el peso compositivo cae sobre los hombros del músico Tommy Johansson, pero también se ve la versatilidad de los músicos que componen el grupo, con el desempeño vocal de todos y cada uno de ellos aparte de ocuparse de los diferentes instrumentos de propios. De igual manera se ve un acercamiento a un sonido hiper arreglado, muy en la onda de lo hecho por sus compatriotas "Twilight Force", quizá un tanto demasiado, pero es indudable del talento de estos chicos. El caso es que el cuatro de diciembre de este 2020, y aprovechando las fechas que vienen, han decidido editar un segundo album en plan navideño, con ese aire continuo a villancico que hará que desde su primera escucha tengas esa sensación tan familiar de conocer los temas. Como digo otra de las sensaciones que puedes tener es la de estar escuchando a "Twilight Force", al de sus discos posteriores al debut, así que si eres de los criticos con ese estilo esto definitivamente no es para tí. El caso es que hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de los adelantos de este "A christmas Carol", concretamente "Ghost of Christmas Past", del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Tungsten - Lock And Load

 

LOCK  AND  LOAD

Este recién pasado 27 de noviembre ha sido la fecha escogida por los suecos "Tungsten" para editar el segundo de sus LP's de estudio de título "Tundra". Parece ser que el bueno de Anders Johansson, batería y sus hijos han encontrado una senda sonora que en este segundo disco parecen perpetuar, comenzando a verse un estilo propio reconocible sobre el que desarrollar su carrera. Hablamos de un power metal con muchas pinceladas diferentes, destila el sonido clásico de los 90 en este apartado del power, pero al mismo tiempo resulta más experimental, con muchos elementos incluso algo industriales u oscuros. Es sin duda un punto y seguido a su debut del pasado 2019, "We will rise" completamente recomendable.Siempre dejan ese estribillo fácil, ese coro "coreable" en dos escuchas. Canciones para una vida - Brother Firetribe - I Salute You

 

I  SALUTE  YOU

Demos una mirada hacia terrenos más melódicos para repasar un poquito la última de las obras de los finlandeses "Brother Firetribe", uno de esos grupos que desde el inicio de su carrera musical han destacado por la calidad, tanto compositiva como en el apartado de la producción para orientar su sonido al que se hacía en los ochenta pero con ese baño actual técnico.Como siempre que uno se adentra en estos terrenos las criticas hacia el concepto que despliega este grupazo aparecen por parte de algunos, pero lo cierto es que el hecho de suavizar la contundencia no solo no es algo malo, sino que además en no pocas ocasiones es recomendable y enriquecedor. Y en estas estamos, con el quinto album de estudio del grupo, una discografía un tanto escasa, la verdad, si atendemos al hecho de que llevan en activo desde 2002. Su origen mismo fue una colaboración entre miembros de Leverage y Nightwish, y el resultado de su debut, del que ya he hablado en este blog, no pudo terminar de otra manera que perpetuando dicha unión de fuerzas en una banda a tiempo completo. El quinto album de estudio se titula "Feel the burn" y en él se perpetúa una vez más el concepto citado, estos chicos no están por la labor de cambiar ni un ápice, ni falta que les hace, y otra prueba más es por ejemplo el tema que abre la obra, "I Salute You", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Human Fortress - The Grimoire

 

THE  GRIMOIRE

Con motivo de su vuelta a la discográfica "Massacre Records", la banda alemana "Human Fortress" edita un recopilatorio especial, en el sentido de que además de compilar temas de la historia de la banda desde la perspectiva tanto propia como de su audiencia, incluye además una serie de canciones nuevas, temas raros o sin editar previamente conformando un disco con doble Cd. La historia de la banda se remonta ya a 1999 y en ese tiempo han editado 6 LP's de estudio. este pues es dificil si considerarlo el séptimo o no, más puede considerarse como un especie de recopilatorio con bonus. Sea como sea, parece que la banda retorna a la actividad, y hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de los temas de este "Epic Tales & Untold Stories" cuya salida oficial se espera para este próximo 22 de Enero de 2021, concretamente de jo un enlace a youtube de "The Grimoire".

Canciones para una vida - Schaffer/Barlow Project - Silent Night

 

SILENT  NIGHT

No por ser un recurso manido o recurrente puede resultar poco atractivo el hecho de sacar tus propias versiones navideñas, siempre resulta al menos un acto de curiosidad saber como sonaría uno de esos villancicos de siempre en boca de algunos de tus heroes metálicos preferidos, y en esas estamos. En esta ocasión debemos relacionar estas versiones con el nombre de "Iced Earth", la banda estadounidense que poca o ninguna presentación necesita ya a estas alturas es referencia suficiente para afrontar este experimento con toda garantía. En este projecto, como su nombre indica "Schaffer/Barlow" tenemos al motor de Iced Earth Jon Schaffer y a uno de sus ex compañeros Matt Barlow quien estuviera en la banda en funciones vocales entre 1993 y 2003, y luego entre 2007 y 2011. Así pues, bien centrado el projecto poco más que añadir, algunos villancicos clásicos, más la reedición versionada para la ocasión de algunas de sus canciones. Siempre calidad ligada al señor Schaffer, como por ejemplo esta versión del "Silent Night" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Megaton Sword - Blood Hails Steel Steel Hails Fire

 

BLOOD  HAILS  STEEL  STEEL  HAILS  FIRE

Ya me quedé con ganas, y en tareas pendientes lo tengo, el hecho de traer al blog el primer material de estudio de los suizos "MegatonSword", material en forma de EP, de título "Niralet" del pasado 2019,  y en esto que este año 2020 deciden editar su primer LP, "Blood hails steel, steel hails fire", toda una confirmación de lo mostrado en su primer zarpazo. Hablamos de heavy metal, un tanto épico, un tanto casi en la línea true de los primerísimos Manowar, pero en esa onda que tiende más bien a los "Manilla Road" y similares. De lo que no hay duda posible es de ese espíritu clásico que promete dar grandes momentos a los que somos amantes de ese espíritu primigenio y auténtico. Canciones para una vida - Havamal - Draugers March

 

DRAUGERS  MARCH

Havamal es una banda sueca de esas que han escogido la senda del death melódico con una motivación epico nórdica, un tanto "Ensiferum". Se trata de una banda de reciente formación, (2016), que hasta la fecha de esta reseña han editado tan solo un LP de estudio más su EP inicial de 2017. Su único larga duración se titula "Tales from Yggdrasil" y fue editado el pasado 2019. Como digo en esta obra encontramos esa vocación épica obtenida desde la fórmula del death melódico, un poco también en la onda Brymir, por lo tanto vemos que sus espejos son buenos y la ejecución igualmente . Los componentes de la banda no muestran una trayectoria reconocible, sin embargo su trabajo pormete seguir una linea ascendente que les puede llevar lejos, buen ejemplo puede ser lacanción que hoy dejo en el blog de su primer LP, "Draugers march" donde muestran ese potencial al que me refiero, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a Youtube.

DRILLED  TO  KILL

Poquito hace que traje al blog por vez primera a este fenomenal y fundamental guitarrista, y curiosamente hoy repito con las últimas noticias que nos ha mostrado en los últimos días, la salida de su duo décimo album de estudio "Immortal" con la que celebra su medio siglo de vida musical en esto de la guitarra. Para la ocasión, como no podía ser de otra manera, se ha rodeado de nombres de primera línea internacional, desde la producción hasta la ejecución en los diversos puestos, dando luz a una obra que verá la luz de forma oficial el próximo 8 de enero de 2021. de ella, nos deja las primeras pinceladas en forma de la canción "Drilled to kill", en la que a simple "oido" se descubre sin esfuerzo la lagnífica aportación del Ralf Scheepers, casi nada, en una magnífica canción que pormete que el album será digno de escucha, veremos, hasta ese momento dejo en el blog un enlace a este primer single "Drilled to kill", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

El primer capítulo de estos alemanes fue este "Stairway to fairyland" de 1999, una obra que nació casi casi como proyecto paralelo, con una vocación casi accidental, pero con tales argumentos que por su propio peso se consolidaría entre el power melódico para llegar a las alturas compositivas y de trayectoria que hoy merecidamente han alcanzado. Siempre me he declarado fan absoluto de estos tíos, desde el principio, y al escucharlo cada vez me reafirmo en ello, desde esta primera obra, absolutamente recomendable donde encontramos canciones tan buenas como este "We are one", con todas las características que se cronificarían en su estilo. Canciones para una vida - Yngwie Malmsteen - Leonardo

 

LEONARDO

Uno de esos grandes nombres unidos al subgénero "Shred" dentro de nuestro sonido metálico es Yngwie Malmsteen, el guitarrista sueco que lleva tantos años ya en esto del heavy metal, concretamente desde 1978 bajo su nombre. Hablamos de 21 LP's de estudio, en los que el músico ha sabido dejar su sello personal, siendo el lider absoluto, la estrella única para la que no ha dudado en rodearse de grandes nombres que ha ido cambiando sucesivamente para evitar seguramente entre otras cosas, que pudiese haber el más mínimo velo de duda de quien es la estrella en esta banda. Su sonido ha suscitado muchos rios de tinta, a favor y en contra, y la mayoría de nosotros tenemos nuestra propia opinión acerca de como hace las cosas este tipo, imitado, criticado y alabado a partes iguales el hecho es que camino de la quinta década en esto el bueno de Yngwie sigue al pie del cañón, para bien o para mal, desarrollando su concepto personal de lo que tiene que ser el heavy metal. Su duodécimo album de estudio se tituló "Alchemy", de 1999, con nada menos que M;ark Boals a la voz, con el sello del guitarrista bien marcado, como siempre, y del que hoy quiero dejar una de las canciones que lo componen, concretamente "Leonardo", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Seventh Avenue - Southgate

 

INTRODUCE  &  SOUTHGATE

Otra de las obras de los alemanes "Seventh Avenue", en uno de sus mejores momentos a nivel compositivo y de estabilidad del grupo, ya asentados como banda por completo y desarrollando ese sonido tan característico de esos años en el subgénero power dentro de la corriente europea. Estamos ante un grupo, como ya he dicho en el blog, para nada suficientemente reconocido, y es que si se pudiese definir el power metal de esa época y escuela esta banda cumpliría matemáticamente todos y cada uno de sus puntos. Este "Southgate" de 1998 es el tercer LP de la banda, y en el encontramos temazos como el que abre la obra y da nombre a la misma, toda una declaración de intenciones de la que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

El sexto LP de estudio de una de las bandas más internacionales de las españolas en esto del power, "Vhaldemar" ha visto la luz recientemente, el pasado 6 de octubre. Se trata de "Straight to hell", y en la obra demuestran estos chicos que están en plena forma mostrando el porque de su éxito más allá de nuestras fronteras. El sonido del grupo desde el comienzo de su carrera, allá por 1999 ha sido siempre una apuesta clara or trascender nuestras fronteras, con un enfoque absolutamente al power de corte europeo que hace guiños a los mismisimos Gamma Ray en no pocas ocasiones, y en general, la contundente propuesta de la banda unida a la calidad compositiva e interpretativa, sin que una cosa le reste ni un apice a la otra, hace que muchos puedan ver rasgos de muchas bandas de las grandes en sus canciones. El sexto disco del que hoy dejo una de sus canciones no es sino una confirmación de su excelente momento del grupo, que parecen dar solo pasos al frente, buen ejemplo es este "Death to the wizard!", canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube .

GODS  OF  WAR

Ya tenemos disponible el primero de los adelantos de la nueva obra de estudio de los austriacos "Dragony", "Gods of war", perteneciente a su cuarto LP, "Viribus Unitis", que verá la luz el próximo 15 de enero, por lo tanto es el primer material del 2021, ya casi inminente, que dejo en el blog, esperemos que sea mejor en todo que este 2020, aunque en lo musical este año aún presente no ha estado nada mal en líneas generales. Volviendo al tema, este "Gods of war" nos muestra todos los rasgos propios y esperables de la banda, un power de corte europeo, un tanto en la línea de Sabaton y compañía,. Veremos como de completo resulta el LP, hasta ese momento abramos boca con este primer single del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Atkins May project - Stranger In A Strange Land

 

STRANGER  IN  A  STRANGE  LAND

Otra vez más la fórmula de nombres de experiencia y contrastada trayectoria que unen sus fuerzas para hacer mayor su reputación, y aunque estos británicos en concreto, Atkins y May, no sean de los más reconocibles ni reconocidos, su nombre si puede relacionarse con trayectorias de peso y nombres de primera línea. Sobre todo en el apartado vocal, Al Atkins destaca por haber formado parte del los inicios mismos de la banda Judas Priest, ahí es nada, si bien, no se editó LP alguno antes de su salida y la entrada del señor Halford a la mítica formación, sin embargo, el hecho de haber formado parte de la formación inicial de uno de los grandes entre los grandes nos da una dimensión de al menos el enorme puñado de años que lleva este tío en esto de la música. El combo May Atkins lleva unido desde 2010, y en este tiempo han editado un total de LP's de estudio, el último de ellos de este 2020. Hablamos de heavy metal, con regusto clásico, de la vieja escuela, un tanto crudo, eficaz, sin duda no, (al menos de momento), merecedor del título de disco del año, pero si lleno de matices interesantes, siempre hay donde rascar en las obras de estos" AMP. Esta última obra, "The final cut" no es una excepción, y reivindica una vez más el valor de los veteranos en esto del heavy metal, la experiencia es siempre un grado, buen ejemplo, de la afirmación y del sonido de la banda es el tema de este último disco que dejo hoy en el blog, "Stranger in a strange land", canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Stargazery - Raise The Flag

 

RAISE  THE  FLAG

Retomamos la tercera obra de estudio de los finlandeses "Stargazery" de título "Constellation", del presente 2020, para recuperar otra de sus canciones. En este grupo se encarnan algunas de las virtudes compositivas e interpretativas que hicieron grande el subgénero power en su vertiente melódica y europea, nórdica. Por lo tanto, su sonido un tanto al estilo de la fórmula de los Sonata Arctica y compañía puede resultar un tanto manida, pero al mismo tiempo ese regusto clásico deja esa sensación familiar que hará las delicias de los amantes del subgénero. Hoy, como decía al inicio, quiero recuperar otra de las canciones que lo componen, en concreto la que cierra la obra para dejar un gran sabor de boca, "Raise the flag" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.
