En este año en el que el cantante noruego Jorn Lande cumple el medio siglo sobre la tierra, es una buena excusa para echar la mirada atrás y hacer algún repasillo a su extensa carrera de la que ya he dado cuenta anteriormente en el blog en alguna ocasión. Hoy quiero hablar de la parte final de esta carrera, concretamente de su décimo tercer disco de estudio bajo su propio nombre, "Life on death road" de 2017. Siempre que hablamos del material en solitario de este músico nos tenemos que referir a un heavy metal con tintes tanto de power en ocasiones, como un tanto heavy hard en otras e incluso flirteando con pasajes progresivos aquí y allá. El tono característico de su voz le ha hecho merecedor de no pocas ofertas de participación en proyectos diversos ya que su calidad es sin duda indiscutible. Retornando a su última obra publicada, a fecha de esta reseña, la mencionada "Life on death road" de 2017, quiero dejar en el blog la canción "Man of the 80's", una especie de homenaje a la década de la que ha sacado no pocas influencias y que le vio crecer en ilusión profesional dando sus primeros pasos casi al final de dicha década en varios grupos. Canciones para una vida - Almanac - Hail To The King

HAIL  TO  THE  KING

El segundo LP de la banda del Ex Rage Victor Smolsky se titula "Kingslayer", de 2017. En esta segunda entrega de la banda vemos una reafirmación de todos los conceptos mostrados en su debut, haciendo notar que aquello mostrado en 2015 no era flor de un día y que este "Almanac" es una banda con intenciones de hacerse un hueco a largo plazo en esto de la música. Afianzado pues como grupo en lo compositivo como en la formación que lo compone, con la presencia de los mismos integrantes en el apartado vocal, destacando David Readman, uno de esos reconocidos y reconocibles cantantes con una dilatada ya carrera musical a sus espaldas. En este Kingslayer encontramos muchas, o todas las virtudes que la banda mostró ya en su primer LP, y es que la categoría técnica de los músicos aquí presentes, añadida a lo variado de las influencias musicales que hacen de este tipo de discos algo realmente interesante. Canciones para una vida - Dark Moor - Druidic Creed

DRUIDIC  CREED

Dark Moor es una de las mejores bandas españolas en lo que al power metal, sobre todo de proyección internacional se refiere. Este recién pasado 2018 fue el año escogido por la banda para publicar su undécimo LP en una carrera que se extiende ya a lo largo de más de 25 años, (desde 1993). Es indudable que la banda, como cualquier otra banda, ha pasado por altos y bajos a lo largo y ancho de su historia personal, y desde luego ha tenido épocas mejores, pero, viniendo del anterior trabajo, "Project X" que suponía su décimo trabajo de estudio, una obra más que criticada y que quizá hubiese perdido un tanto la esencia Dark Moor, pues, como digo, viniendo de ese punto vemos en esta nueva obra, "Origins" un repunte para bien del espíritu más clásico de Dark Moor. Creo sinceramente que no pasará a la historia como el mejor trabajo de la banda, sin embargo encontramos buenos momentos musicales que hacen presagiar buenos momentos para el futuro. Quiero pues dejar en el blog una canción de esta última obra, posiblemente no la mejor de la obra, un tanto quizá predecible, pero que me ha hecho gracia, "Druidic Creed", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Autumn's Mourning - The Morning Mist

THE  MORNING  MIST

 De forma independiente, la banda sueca "Autumns Mourning" comienza a abrirse paso con su primer material editado en forma de EP, "Gotland" de este recién estrenado 2019. Tocando varios estilos musicales nos encontramos aquí ante una banda que salta del folk épico al death melódico pasando por una ambiente sinfónico que lo envuelve todo, resultado, una experiencia para muchos cercana por ejemplo al sonido de la banda finlandesa "Wintersun", aunque sin llegar exactamente a ser eso, pero por poner una etiqueta por ahí podrían ir los tiros musicales. El la banda encontramos miembros desconocidos para el gran público, destacando solo el bajista por su trabajo anterior en algunas bandas algo conocidas, como "Sorcerer" por ejemplo. Nos encontramos pues ante el nacimiento de una banda más, con calidad evidente que promete ofrecernos en el futuro grandes momentos musicales a poco que continúen en este camino. dejo hoy en el blog una canción de este único, hasta la fecha de esta reseña, material editado, el EP "Gotland" de 2019, del que dejo la canción "The morning mist", una de las que más me han gustado de la obra.

Canciones para una vida - Holter - Worlds On Fire

WORLDS  ON  FIRE

Nadie puede dudar a estas alturas de la capacidad compositiva de las bandas de países nórdicos europeos, pero últimamente parece estar habiendo un repunte extra de bandas de origen noruego en lo que al género power se refiere, una tierra más dada posiblemente a subgéneros más oscuros como death o black que al power, así hablando en general. Otra banda que podríamos incluir en este nuevo paquete es "Holter", heavy power sinfónico, en una banda promovida por el guitarrista y compositor Trond Holter, quien trabajase con Jorn Lande, quien aparece en su anterior trabajo "Dracula swing of death" de 2015. Para esta segunda obra no cuenta con la voz de Jorn para dar vida a sus composiciones, sin embargo ha sabido rodearse de buenos músicos incluyendo voz masculina y femenina según las necesidades creando un conjunto de músicos completo para dar rienda suelta a ese concepto power sinfónico al que antes me refería. Canciones para una vida - Pink Cream 69 - Bloodsucker

BLOODSUCKER

Una de las bandas que pueden llevar bien a gusto el estilo sobre sus hombres de Power metal melódico podría ser Pink Cream 69, la banda alemana que lleva ya desde 1987 en esto de la música habiendo atravesado más de una época diferente, marcada siempre por el puesto del cantante, que inicialmente ocupase Andi Deris, para pasarle el testigo en 1994 al fantástico cantante Dennis Ward, que desde entonces continua al frente del grupo. Siempre, igualmente, es un seguro de vida encontrar en cada una de las obras de la banda más de una canción reseñable, con momentos realmente buenos y disco completos que señalar, en ocasiones más rozando un power hard rock, o un heavy power, siempre melódico. El pasado 2017 fue la fecha escogida para editar su décimo segundo disco de estudio, "Headstrong", tras cuatro años de sequía compositiva. También es justo reseñar que creo, personalmente, que la banda no está en su época más brillante, pero, retomando el argumente de que siempre hay algo "que rascar" en el material compuesto por grupos de este calibre, quiero dejar en el blog hoy una canción de este último trabajo publicado por la banda a fecha de esta reseña, concretamente la canción "Bloodsucker", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Grave Digger - Here I Stand

HERE  I  STAND

 Entrando aún en el terreno de las presentaciones editaba Grave Digger su segundo LP, "Witch Hunter", de 1985, Con la libertad implícita entre el desconocimiento aun generalizado del gran público de la banda, y, por supuesto, desconocimiento de lo que era el power que aún se estaba cocinando en esa época, más que en ninguna otra parte en la tierra natal de estos Grave Digger, Alemania. Ante tanta novedad que la época presentaba se empezaba a vislumbrar lo que sería conocido como power metal, aquí impulsado por una vertiente más oscura sobre todo el lo vocal, y más rápida sobre todo en lo instrumental, dejando entrever que estos Grave Digger que aún se presentaban a muchos tenían los mimbres de llegar a ser uno de los pioneros impulsores de dicho subgénero. Un poco a caballo entre Venom, (por lo oscuro), Judas por los riffs o Metal Church entre otros estamos ante una obra para rescatar si eres de los de la vieja guardia, o para descubrir si eres de los más modernos seguidores de esto del Heavy Metal. Obra que hará las delicias de los amantes del sonido auténtico y de la que hoy quiero dejar una canción en el blog, la enésima ya de la banda en estas páginas, en concreto "Here I Stand" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Freternia - The Flame

THE  FLAME

 Mucho tiempo hacía ya que quería traer al blog a los suecos "Freternia", una banda de la que indirectamente he hablado ya en el blog al referirme a la banda "Cromonic", heredera en muchos aspectos de "Freternia", orientada quizá a un intento por llegar a más público, con un nombre nuevo y un pequeño lavado de cara sonoro algo más moderno y limpio. Desde luego de lo que no hay duda es de la calidad al tiempo que el poco o nulo reconocimiento que siempre han mostrado estos suecos. Con un sonido, (el de Freternia) orientado al un power más crudo, un tanto speedico y en ocasiones hasta oscurillo, que se nutría mucho de los conceptos del heavy clásico elevados a la formulación power. Freternia comienza su andadura en 1998, sin apoyo discográfico, algo que se ha mantenido a lo largo de una carrera no demasiado prolífica, pero sin duda remarcable. Dos LP's en 2000 y 2002, al que añadir un EP en 2009 completan su producción musical bajo el nombre de Freternia. Al inicio promocionándose con "Splits" junto a otras bandas, siempre realmente funcionaron de una manera "underground", demasiado para la calidad innegable que poseen, y aunque hoy en día se supone que el grupo sigue en activo imagino que en adelante "Cromonic" será la apuesta natural para finalmente intentar sacar la cabeza. Canciones para una vida - Brainstorm - Secrets And Related Lies

SECRETS  AND  RELATED  LIES

Ahora que Brainstorm comienza una gira junto con Mob Rules y Gloryful para presentar su trabajo "Midnight Ghost" en vivo, el que supone ya el décimo segundo disco de estudio de la historia de la banda, vemos un rasgo más de madurez, en este caso en el campo del marketing, ya que para promocionar dicha gira la banda nos regala un tema completamente nuevo que por lo tanto no aparece en ninguna edición del citado último LP "Midnight Ghost". Ya he comentado como la banda ha experimentado un cierto cambio en su forma de enfocar su carrera, desde lo sonoro con el apoyo de Seeb Levermann con una tendencia mayor al power clásico europeo, más reluciente y vendible, porque no. Todo ello supone un crecimiento del grupo en calidad y nombre que ahora se refrenda con la nueva gira con esas otras dos bandas alemanas anteriormente citadas. es evidente que hoy en día hay que ofrecer más cosas cada vez para mantener la atención del gran público, y en ello están "Brainstorm" con la edición de este "Secrets and related lies" de forma digital, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Alestorm - Man The Pumps

MAN  THE  PUMPS

Poco más que añadir a lo citado anteriormente en lo que a la banda se refiere tanto como en lo que al álbum, "No grave but the sea", quinto de la banda, de 2017, se refiere, buen power, enganchón, fácil de digerir desde la primera escucha, y líricamente loo y gamberro, marca ya de la casa. Este disco cumple perfectamente lo esperado de una obra de la banda, repleto de temas cortos y directos, que se meten rápido en la cabeza, y del que hoy traigo al blog otra de las canciones, "Man the pumps", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube. "Alestorm" toda una marca ya en si misma que además va creando escuela.

ONE  OF  YOUR  CROWD

 Una gran puesta en escena con un acertado concepto compositivo es una manera excelente de presentarse en sociedad para una banda de nueva creación, algo que se ha cumplido completamente con este grupo, "Europica" y su debut de 2017 "Part One". Ya hablé hace poco más de un año de ellos en el blog y como entonces dije, parece increíble que un grupo como este haya salido aparentemente de la nada, consiguiendo colaboraciones de lujo desde tan pronto y aún así, y teniendo en cuenta lo consistente de la obra en conjunto, que no hayan tenido el apoyo de una discográfica para sacar adelante su debut. Sin embargo, si uno se aventura a escuchar esta obra se da cuenta de que muy posiblemente esto cambie en el futuro inmediato, o al menos debería ser así, pues a poco que sigan en esta línea en futuros discos, "Europica" debería dar que hablar.  Para ilustrar lo que digo nada mejor que una canción más del, hasta la fecha de esta reseña, único LP editado por la banda, concretamente la canción "One of your crowd" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

2018 fue el año escogido por la banda irlandesa "Cruachan" para publicar "Nine Years Of Blood", octava obra de estudio del grupo. Como siempre, podemos encontrar una mezcla de orientaciones musicales en cada disco de Cruachan, y esta ocasión sigue la misma línea, desde una vertiente más oscura, ya no tan cercana al Black metal como si lo era al inicio de su senda musical, pasando por momentos más melódicos también muchas veces envueltos en un aire folk, naturalmente y atendiendo al origen del grupo, de vocación céltica.Todo ello unido hace de una obra de Cruachan una mezcla perfecta entre una sensación oscurantista y al mismo tiempo fantástica y épica, casi medieval en ocasiones. Quiero hoy dejar en el blog una de las canciones del citado octavo álbum de estudio "Nine years of blood", concretamente "Queen Of War", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Veonity - Starborn

STARBORN

 Tercera obra de estudio de los suecos "Veonity", un disco que va completamente en la línea compositiva de su anterior obra "Into the void" de 2016 de la que ya hablé en el blog  Nos encontramos de nuevo ante un disco en clave de power metal, de corte europeo, cuya temática en esta nueva obra parece continuar la idea comenzada en el anterior disco "Into the void", un tanto espacial, adaptada y mezclada en este disco con la temática viquinga, lucha del bien y el mal, tecnología y tradición, todo ello al fin temas que funcionan muy bien por lo general tradicionalmente con el estilo power. Nada nuevo, o demasiado innovador, pero indudablemente bien ejecutado. Dejo en el blog una de las canciones de este disco del pasado 2018, concretamente "Starborn", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Avantasia - The Raven Child

THE  RAVEN  CHILD

 Es indudable el poder convocatorio de Tobias Sammet, tanto respecto a lo que a público y profesionales se refiere, es decir, todo lo que lleva su firma hace que la comunidad metálica se gire a mirar al menos, y muchos son los que gustosamente, desde el lado de los profesionales de esto, se presten a colaborar para formar parte del innegable talento que siempre ha mostrado este alemán. Por otra parte no es oro todo lo que reluce, y es indudable igualmente que el material que ha compuesto Tobias para Avantasia ha ido poco a poco volviendose más denso, lo que ha cosechado más críticas que el deslumbrante inicio del proyecto a comienzos de siglo hubiese hecho sospechar. De nuevo, en este ya octavo LP de la banda, vemos colaboraciones de lujo en lo que hace presagiar un paso más en la línea de lo anterior publicado, aunque parece haber menos temas largos en esta nueva obra, pese a que el primer single sea este "The raven child" de más de 11 minutos del que hoy quiero dejar un enlace a el blog. Es el tema más largo de la obra y en el aparecen acompañando a Sammet, Hansi Kursh y Jorn Lande, ahí es nada. Canción que nos pone sobre aviso de por donde pueden ir los tiros musicales del nuevo disco y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube de su Lyric video oficial.

Canciones para una vida - TYR - Fire And Flame

FIRE  AND  FLAME

Finalmente los Feroeses "Tyr" dan un paso al frente tras una larguísima temporada de seis años sin dar señales de vida compositivas, concretamente desde su séptimo trabajo de estudio "Valkyrja" de 2013. Con renovadas fuerzas y en parte alineación de la banda con la salida del batería y el guitarrista parecen ofrecernos un nuevo capítulo en su camino en forma de "Hel", octavo álbum de estudio que verá la luz de forma oficial el próximo mes de marzo. Hasta entonces nos dejan su primer adelanto, este "Fire and flame" en que muestran que hay una gran continuidad con lo esperable por parte de la banda, muy en la línea del sonido Tyr, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.
