Canciones para una vida - Stratovarius - Black Diamond

BLACK DIAMOND

Esta gran banda finlandesa es evidentemente otra de esas que no necesita de ninguna presentación. Dos grandes nombres han marcado la historia de este grupo, Timo Tolkki a la guitarra y Timo Kotipelto a la voz, a pesar de que ninguno de ellos fuera mienbro fundador de la banda. El primero de ambos que se incorporó fue Tolkki muy al principio tocando desde la primera obra de estudio y ocupándose de las funciones de vocalista también en los tres primeros discos. En 1994, y para la grabación de su quinta obra Fourth dimension se incorpora Kotipelto a la voz. Desde esa época el grupo no dejó de crecer y crecer y podemos decir que su éxito fue el abono perfecto para el sugimiento posterior de tantas y tan impresionantes bandas finlandesas en el escenario internacional. Tras más de 25 años de carrera y 14 discos de estudio hasta la fecha de esta reseña he querido recomendaros este clásico Black Diamond de uno de sus discos más aclamados, el Visions de 1997 donde encontrareis los elementos clásicos de la banda con un power metal melódico de magnífica factura en el que la mayoría de canciones por no decir todas hacen de este disco una de sus obras cumbre en uno de sus momentos de mejor forma musical. En torno a 2004 comenzaron los problemas de Tokki en la banda que acabaría con la salida de este. En fin, escoger solo una canción de Stratovarius o un disco es tarea dificil pero por algún sitio habia que empezar. Dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Battleroar - Valkyries Above

VALKYRIES ABOVE

Battleroar es una banda procedente de Grecia que hacen un epic power heavy metal cuya temática es en plan true metal con batallas, temas épicos, etc, un poco en plan Manowar. Llevan sacando discos desde 2003 y tienen 4 obras de estudio desde entonces siendo este blood of legends el último salido hasta la fecha de esta reseña, de este mismo año, apenas hace tres meses. Es un interesante grupo que sin ser nada extraordinario ni super original si que hacen bien aquello que pretenden y entre su discografía encontramos buenos temas siendo de momento quizás más una banda de algunas canciones sueltas que de un disco completo que puede resultar pesado, pero en fín en este blog nos dedicamos a opinar sobre canciones y no solo sobre discos y sin duda este Valkyries above de 2014 de su último disco blood of legends es magnifica. Se trata de una canción que dura casi 9 minutos pero que en ningun momento se hace pesada.Tiene bastante buena pinta esta última obra de Battleroar, que debo escuchar aún con más detenimiento antes de forjarme una idea final de ella. Canciones para una vida - Pink Cream 69 - Living My Life For You

LIVING MY LIFE FOR YOU

Espectacular banda alemana creada a finales de los 80 de gran trayectoria y cuya musica abarca desde el hard rock hasta el heavy metal melódico. Su historia se ha marcado por los vocalistas que ha tenido pudiendo diferenciarse dos grandes épocas, la primera con Andi Deris a la voz y la segunda con David Readman.En realidad esta banda alemana en la actualidad cuenta con varias nacionalidades en sus filas, dos alemanes, un griego, un americano y David de origen británico. Llevan sacando discos desde 1989 y han compuesto once obras de estudio ya, la última Ceremonial sacada el año 2013. Dificil escoger una canción, un disco, o incluso un cantante, pues es de esas bandas que parecen hacerlo todo bien, pero me he querido decantar por su primera época en un disco que a mi juicio es antológico, se trata del One Size Fits All, su segunda obra de estudio del año 1991, con Andi Deris a la voz, en lo que sería su penúltimo disco con la banda antes de su marcha a Helloween, y de ella quiero recomendar este Living my life for you, por escoger una. Esta obra es perfecta, con su estilo tan personal y un puñado de canciones sin descartes, todo suena bien, una gran colección de composiciones que uno debe hacer lo posible por tener en condiciones, es decir, es uno de esos discos que merece la pena ser comprado. Canciones para una vida - Dragonforce - Cry Thunder

CRY THUNDER

La banda Dragonforce hace un power speed metal de buena factura. Se trata de una banda Inglesa pero en cuya formación encontramos muchas nacionalidades, desde China, Francia Ucrania o Inglaterra. LLevan sacando discos bajo el nombre de Dragonforce desde 2003 y cuentan con 6 discos de estudio de los que este The Power Within es el quinto, de 2012. Personalmente quizás deba darle más escuchas a toda su obra antes de hacer un juicio, pues la calidad a estos chicos les sobra. En este penúltimo disco que es el que más sencillo me resulta de escuchar como obra en total,  quiero destacar este magnifico Cry thunder, un tema que es un auténtico tiro, desde la primera escucha te entra directo. Hace muy poquito han sacado su sexto y hasta la fecha último disco de estudio Maximun Overload que tiene muy buena pinta de la que destacaría la canción Three Hammers así a primera escucha. En definitiva, una banda que hace un power metal acelerado una marcha, con mucha calidad y ya una trayectoria que merece la pena seguir. Dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Anthrax - Got The Time

GOT THE TIME

Uno de los grandes del Thrash, los estadounidenses Anthrax, uno de los grupos más influyentes dentro del género y uno de mis favoritos. Formados en 1981 y con once discos de estudio en su curriculum,en 1990 sacaron este disco, persistence of time, su quinta obra como digno sucesor del state of euphoria del 88, el disco que más me gusta de la banda, aunque la última obra, worship music de 2011 es autenticamente espectacular, lo que nos dice que este grupo está completamente en forma y que volvera a nuestro blog más adelante. He querido escoger para comenzar con Anthrax el tema got the time, versión de Joe Jackson, un corte de esos que te pone las pilas con su trepidante ritmo desde ese comienzo con el bajo. Canciones para una vida - Battlelore - Forked Height

FORKED HEIGHT

Battlelore es una banda finlandesa que ha estado una década sacando discos, entre 2001 y 2011, desafortunadamente no está muy clara su continuidad ya que como ellos mismos dicen en su Web oficial se han tomado un descanso indefinido, mala pinta tiene, lo cual es una pena. Se trata de un grupo que hace un heavy black metal sinfonico y epico, alternando voces limpias femeninas con guturales masculinas, de impecable composición y melodias continuas se trata de una banda espectacular, con algunos temas instrumentales evocativos que transportan al sitios sacados de la mente de Tolkien, ya que hacen continua referencia en sus letras al genial creador de fantasía. Tienen 6 discos de estudio, a cual mejor, y yo quiero referirme al segundo, sword's song, un disco perfecto, impecable, con solo buenas canciones, en el que destacan muchos buenos himnos de la banda, pero debo referirme solo uno asi que elegiré Forked Height, un corte muy pegadizo que enseguida te conquista con su melodía, de esos que entran a la primera, aunque quiero recalcar que este disco no tiene temas malos, es uno de esos discos que hay que comprarse. Esperemos que realmente solo sea un descanso del grupo y en un futuro retomen la senda compositiva y sigan sacando musica. Dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Iron Mask - Forever In The Dark

FOREVER IN THE DARK

Desde Bélgica nos llega esta banda de power metal creada por el guitarrista Dushan Petrossi que forma parte también del grupo Magic Kingdom. Iron Mask han sacado a la venta cinco discos de estudio desde el año 2002, y se nota una evolución musical que les ha hecho alcanzar un nivel muy alto como demuestran sobre todo para mi gusto en sus tres últimas obras. Este Shadow of the red baron es su tercer disco de estudio del año 2009 y encontramos varias canciones dignas de mención en él como la también estupenda black devil ship. Quiero recomendaros Forever in the dark, un corte muy facil de escuchar que rápidamente se queda en la cabeza con melodia de guitarra y teclados que enseguida tararearás. En definitiva una buena banda belga que deberías seguir si te gusta el power metal de calidad. Dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Pretty Maids - Future World

FUTURE WORLD

En 1987 los Daneses Pretty Maids sacaron un disco impresionante, se trata de Future World. Pretty Maids es una banda que comenzó en 1981 como un grupo que hacia versiones principalmente de Thin Lizzy con cierto éxito en Dinamarca y que al incorporar en 1982 a Ronnie Atkins a la voz, comenzaron a grabar su propio material. Han sacado a la venta 14 albumes de estudio y puede decirse que son uno de los grupos clásicos más respetados de los que continuan desde principios de los ochenta. Con un estilo heavy metal melódico que se ha ido adaptando a los tiempos que corren son una banda de esas que nunca te defraudan y que entre su extenso material tienen una gran cantidad de canciones espectaculares. Este future world es su segundo disco de estudio como digo de 1987 y he querido escoger la canción homónima, Future World, un corte clásico de la banda, con un aire bastante ochentero que a mi me gusta mucho, de todas maneras en este blog volveremos más adelante a este grupazo, pues solo un ejemplo no ilustra su enorme potencial. Canciones para una vida - White Skull - Asgard

ASGARD

Los italianos White Skull son una banda que lleva sacando discos desde 1995. Con 9 obras de estudio a sus espaldas son ya un veterano grupo que ha realizado muy interesantes composiciones basadas en power metal de buena factura con liricas que giran en torno a cuestiones históricas en muchas ocasiones y fantasia en otras. En 1999 sacaron este Tales from the north, a mi juicio el mejor de sus discos. Se trata del tercero en su discografía y en él podemos encontrar la colaboración de nada menos que Chris Boltendhal vocalista de Grave Digger. Al escuchar por vez primera la banda nos llama la atención el registro de su cantante, muy en la onda de Grave Digger solo que en versión femenina. He querido extraer el tema Asgard de este disco, que es una gran obra en general, por tratarse de uno de los más épicos, pero podeís escoger cualquiera de las canciones de este disco y os sonará así, pues si podemos definir este Tales from the north de alguna forma es con la palabra épico. Canciones para una vida - Halford - Till The Day I Die

TILL THE DAY I DIE

El británico Rob Halford, el cantante de Judas Priest, ha sacado varios proyectos en solitario paralelos a su banda madre como Fight, 2wo o Halford que comenzo como Rob Halford en 1992, y que ha ocupado su tiempo aparte de Judas o incluso a tiempo completo cuando dejo la mítica banda. En solitario con Halford ha sacado cuatro discos de estudio entre 2000 y 2010 aunque sigue activo sacando hace solo dos años un disco en directo. De entre su material en solitario podemos encontrarnos con varias buenas canciones aunque para mi gusto el material no es tan bueno como el de Judas. Con Fight y 2wo se dedica a dar rienda suelta a sus gustos más personales o experimentales, como no debia ser de otra manera al ser bandas paralelas, y quizas con Halford hace una vuelta más al heavy clasico, más en la onda de Judas. He querido rescatar esta canción de 2010 de su disco made of metal, un corte con un aire un poco sureño que a medida que avanza la canción se tiñe con riffs en plan Judas. Canciones para una vida - Blackmore's Night - Locked Within The Crystal Ball

LOCKED WITHIN THE CRYSTAL BALL

Banda creada por Ritchie Blackmore y Candice Night que hace una musica diferente pero de gran calidad. El guitarrista fundador de Deep Purple y Rainbow, en 1968 y 1974 respectivamente, tras idas y venidas de sus bandas, en la mitad de los años noventa, tras su última y definitiva salida de Deep Purple en 1993 decide crear Blackmore's Night sacando en 1997 su primer disco de estudio. Basada en musica renacentista con base de rock entre sus canciones encontrareis adaptaciones de musica medieval, renacentista versiones de sus bandas o versiones de otras bandas aderezadas con instrumentos sacados del pasado que dan ese toque tan mágico a su musica. Tras nueve discos de estudio he querido escoger este disco Secret Voyage, su septima obra, de 2008, que sin ser el mejor disco para mi gusto, si que cuenta con este tema Locked within the crystal ball que es uno de mis favoritos de la banda. Espero que os guste pues este grupo es una buena opción para cambiar un poco de onda sin renunciar a la calidad. Dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Johansson - Forest Song

FOREST SONG

En 1999 los hermanos suecos Anders y Jens Johansson sacaron este disco bajo el nombre de Johansson, habian creado la banda en 1994 y sacaron dos discos antes que este en 1996 y 1997. Este The last viking fue por lo tanto el último que sacó la formación. La banda la componian además de Anders Johansson a la bateria (conocido por sus trabajos en Hammerfall, Yngwie Malmsteen o Stratovarius entre otros), Jens Johansson en el teclado (Stratovarius, Yngwie Malmsteen o Dio), Goran Edman a la voz (Yngwie Malmsteen). Esta formación de lujo nos dejo tres discos en que se dedicaron a hacer una musica muy personal y experimental en algunos casos donde los teclados alcanzaban gran protagonismo como no podía ser de otra forma pero con ese toque power metal al final, sobre todo en el disco The last viking del que extraemos este tema Forest song, una canción enganchona desde la primera escucha que te transporta enseguida con una melodia alegre que perdurará en tu cabeza tras haberla escuchado y con la portentosa voz de Goran, sin duda un gran vocalista. Canciones para una vida - Helloween - I Want Out

I WANT OUT

Uno de los grandes entre los grandes en uno de sus mejores discos. Esta banda alemana cambió la escena musical de nuestro género, y buena parte de la culpa fue de este Keeper of the seven Keys part 2 y del anterior, la parte 1. Un disco simplemente perfecto de comienzo a fin, del que poco voy a decir que ya no sepais. Helloween se formaron en Hamburgo bajo el nombre de Gentry en 1978 y tras varios cambios de nombre adoptaron Helloween en 1984 bajo el que han sacado a la luz 16 discos de estudio. Marcado por las idas y venidas de iconos de nuestra musica como frontman de la banda se puede separar su carrera mirando a sus vocalistas, los Helloween de Kiske y los de Deris, ambas épocas espectaculares. Yo personalmente tengo debilidad por la primera época por muchos motivos, Kai Hansen a la guitarra y la portentosa voz de Kiske añadido a la impresionante composición de los Keeper hacen que sea irrepetible, aunque eso si, sin desmerecer la posterior formación con Andi Deris que venía de Pink Cream 69 a partir del 94. Una banda de leyenda que sigue sacando importantes obras como su ultimo disco straight out of hell de impecable factura. He querido escoger un icono de su musica, la canción I want out de 1988 porque es necesario por su calidad, importancia y por el sentimiento que aun sigue despertando en mi tras cientos de escuchas a lo largo de mi vida... no podía no estar. Canciones para una vida - In Legend - Pandemonium

PANDEMONIUM

In Legend es un proyecto de Bastian Emig, el bateria del grupo Van Canto, el famoso grupo de heavy "a Cappella", y con esta producción de 2011 nos sorprendió con un increible disco que merece la pena pararse a escuchar y no solo por su originalidad, que la tiene, sino además por su calidad compositiva que le sobra. Los alemanes nos dejan un disco en la linea de Van Canto en cuanto a que no se escucha ni una sola guitarra a lo largo de todo el disco, pero si con eso piensas que esto no va a sonar heavy, que equivocado estas, se trata de composiciones muy cuidadas y para mi gusto muy superiores al sonido de su banda madre Van Canto. Tenía que escoger la canción posiblemente más emblemática de su unico disco de estudio hasta la fecha, que no es otra que Pandemonium, un derroche de creatividad en mi humilde opinión, espero que os guste tanto como a mi. Canciones para una vida - Running Wild - Detonator

DETONATOR

Otra gran banda Alemana de las que llevan unas cuantas décadas sobre los escenarios, se trata de los increibles Running Wild, con 16 discos de estudio a sus espaldas han sido los pioneros del llamado pirate metal, estilo que ha tenido algunas bandas que han tomado despues como referencia, ultimamente casos tan destacables como Alestorm con un toque mucho más folk o Blazon Stone que ya desde su nombre descaradamente enseñan sus influencias y que han sacado un buen disco recientemente. Formados en 1976, Running Wild comenzaron bajo el nombre de Granite Heart, cambiando un año después su nombre a Running Wild. He querido escoger una canción, (cosa realmente dificil ya que es uno de esos grupos que como te gusten, te gustan, pero todas sus canciones), del decimotercer disco de estudio, The Brotherhood de 2002, un tema llamado Detonator, lleno de energia, de esos que te ponen las pilas, con esos riffs tan enganchones y tan tipicos de esta excelente banda, para mi una de las mejores sin duda.
