Cuando uno escucha los grandes nombres y sus reuniones - reactivaciones, no puede por menos que prestar atención, las grandes bandas han llegado a tener una fama por algún motivo, y los estadounidenses Crimson Glory han alcanzado para muchos el nivel de banda mítica, bien es cierto que en gran parte gracias al desaparecido cantante Midnight, sin embargo la trayectoria del grupo, incluso después de Midnight ha sido al menos remarcable, así pues, con su heavy power de corte progresivo en el pasado 2023 anunciaban su reunión, con nuevo guitarrista y cantante tras diez años de silencio y el primer fruto en forma de single ha sido "Triskaideka" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Final Dawn - Need Some Action

NEED  SOME  ACTION

Es estupendo meterse en los entresijos de la escena internacional ochentera, no para uno de encontrar bandas anónimas, de esas que apenas parieron material pero que si que mostraron un potencial que, de haberse dado las condiciones necesarias podrían haber llegado a desarrollar una carrera estandar con quien sabe que resultado. En esas estamos con estos estadounidenses, "Final Dawn", quienes en 1987 publicaban su único material en forma de single "The Quake has come" con dos temas. Estamos hablando de un heavy metal bien clásico, bastante propio de esa época, que parecía llegar con un poco de retraso en 1987 donde ese sonido evolucionaba hacia otras cosas, pero hoy quiero rescatar uno de los dos temas en el blog, "Need some action" del que dejo un enlace a youtube, un nuevo homenaje a todos esos que se quedaron en el camino.

AWAKEN  THE  FURY

 Dos palabras para definir la historia de esta banda estadounidense, Overlorde, calma y perseverancia, la primera por el enfoque que la banda ha dado a su carrera en lo que se refiere a publicar material, un EP y dos LP's desde 1985 hasta la actualidad, la segunda por su capacidad de reiniciar sus épocas e intentarlo de nuevo. entre 1985 y 1988 fruto el EP "Overlorde", de 2000 a 2010 con el fruto del LP "Return of the snow giant", y desde 2016 hasta ahora con el fruto del segundo LP "Awaken the fury" en 2023, y del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog el tema que le da nombre. Canciones para una vida - Flame - No Road To Heaven

 

 

NO  ROAD  TO  HEAVEN 

Otra banda de las que apenas pasaron de puntillas por la escena internacional, hablamos de la década de los 80 una vez más, en este caso de la escena sueca, y "Flame" que así se llamaba el grupo, dibujó un posible inicio de carrera que se quedó solo en eso, ya que editaron solo un single con un par de canciones, en 1982, "No road to heaven/Lonewolf song". Este, como otros muchos casos hablan de una excelente escena en esos años iniciales, y de las dificultades que las bandas tenían para asomarse al mercado internacional, más allá de la calidad o el potencial de crecimiento que demostrasen, como era el caso de estos suecos, de los que dejo la canción "No road to heaven" con ese innegable tufillo ochentero y ese sonido a medio camino del heavy melódico y el hard rock, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

RIOT  IN  THE  DUNGEONS

Vamos con uno de los mejores momentos compositivos del guitarrista sueco Yngwie Malmsteen, se trata de "Odyssey" de 1988, heredero este disco del para mí insuperable "Trilogy" que muestra esa época magistral del genial músico que siempre supo rodearse muy bien por otros que le hicieran brillar aún más si cabe, en esta ocasión, para su "Odyssey" nada menos que Joe Lynn Turner a la voz, Jens Johansson a los teclados, Andres Johansson a la bateria y Bob Daisley al bajo. TEN  THOUSAND  WAYS  TO  DIE

Vamos hoy con un poquito de death metal, de una de esas bandas que en lo suyo se antoja fundamental, unos de los de la vieja guardia en el género, formados en 1988 bajo este nombre de Obituary, ya llevaban estos estadounidenses una cierta trayectoria para entonces a sus espaldas bajo los nombres de Executioner primero y Xecutioner despues, (entre 1984 y 1988). El caso es que estamos ante unos músicos experimentados, reputados, convencidos de lo que hacen y es que su estilo no ha cambiado practicamente desde sus comienzos. Hoy quiero ilustrar esto último con una de sus últimas obras editadas a fecha de esta reseña, el disco homónimo al nombre de la banda, de 2017, que supone su décimo album de estudio y de momento penúltimo, y de él dejo en el blog el tema "Ten thousand ways to die" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Sin duda alguna el lanzamiento del nuevo LP de estudio de los británicos Judas Priest será una de las obras más esperadas de todo Marzo y seguramente de todo 2024, y es que esta banda parece eterna, importante como pocas, fundamental, decisiva en lo influyente e incombustible a juzgar por los adelantos que nos van dejando antes de que se haga efectiva su publicación oficial para este día ocho, esta semana que entra. Vamos con uno de esos grupos que llevan ya mucho tiempo siendo un seguro de vida en esto de la calidad y el acierto compositivo, los suecos Eclipse que en estos días dejan un nuevo single con la escusa de que en breve habrá un eclipse y ellos han visto la ocasión para editar este par de temas en un vinilo con regalo de gafas para disfrutar de dicho eclipse incluidas, puro marketing eso sí acompañado de buena música siempre bajo este nombre. CHALLENGE  THE  WIND

La carrera de los italianos Rhapsody of Fire sigue viento en popa y con el anuncio de su nuevo disco de estudio, "Challenge The Wind" para mayo, el que supondrá ya su décimo quinto LP de estudio, y asentandose sin generar ninguna duda en su época post Lione-Turilli, los de Staropolli, adentrados en su saga Nephilim Empire, editan su nuevo trabajo con el apoyo de AFM y el de Seeb Levermann en la producción, un añadido más. Según Staropolli estamos ante la obra de Rhapsody más metálica, sin respiros para temas lentos pero con todos los ingredientes propios de la banda. Desde Canada mos llegan de nuevo Striker, un grupo que lleva ya en activo desde 2007 y al que se le va notando ya la experiencia, desde luego desde el principio dejaron bien claro que tenían mucho que decir y el tiempo ha dado la razón a su propuesta, un heavy power metal con un regusto clásico, energico, que ya ha ilustrado siete albumes de estudio, el último de ellos de este 2024, concretamente publicado a comienzos de febrero y del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus temas,  "Circle of evil" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Don't Drop The Sword

  

A  MURDER  OF  RAVENS

Otra banda más estos alemanes, Don't drop the sword, de esas que van poco a poco dando pasos adelante agrandando su perspectiva de futuro y mostrando que su presente es mucho más que remarcable. Es un grupo nacido en 2016 y que a pesar de tener solo dos LP's de estudio, a fecha de esta reseña, han sabido gestionar los tiempos bien a través de tres EP's mucho más que interesantes. Su sonido Blindguardianesco sin ningún tipo de complejo les ha ido llevando por el camino apropiado hasta ahora. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de las canciones que forman parte de su segunda obra "Age of heroes" de 2023, concretamente la larga "A murder of ravens" donde muestran todo su enorme potencial, desde las partes más melódicas y el poder de un medio tiempo bien diseñado, con la colaboración de Liv Kristine, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Ravage - Manmade Ice Age

MANMADE  ICE  AGE

Otra banda más de esas que a pesar de tener una trayectoria larga desde su fundación han permanecido mucho, demasiado, tiempo en terrenos underground y de demos sin explotar desde 1995 en que nacen hasta 2005 en que editan su primer LP, de todas maneras, los estadounidenses "Ravage" son una banda irregular en lo compositivo desde la perspectiva de la continuidad, en la parte final de los 90 y comienzos de los 2000 editan varios EP's y entre sus dos primeros LP's  (2005 y 2009) y los dos siguientes (2017 y 2024) transcurren demasiados años, con algún EP más entre estos dos últimos mencionados. Es una lástima atendiendo al tipo de sonido que hacen, al enorme potencial que poseen. El último trabajo, el cuarto a fecha de esta reseña, verá la luz de manera oficial el 19 de abril y su adelanto, "Manmade ice age" deja claro ese potencial al que me refiero.

Vamos ahora con un poco de heavy metal de factura clásica y americana encarnada en la banda afincada en Estados Unidos "Traveler" que en este 2024 han editado su tercer LP de estudio "Prequel to madness" hace solo tres días de forma oficial. Formados en 2017 el grupo ha escogido la senda de ese heavy metal de la vieja escuela con ningún adorno, una propuesta respaldada por el sello No Remorse que gusta de fichar a bandas del estilo. Otra banda de imparable ascenso, no demasiado longeva aún, ya que llevan en activo poco más de una década, pero que con su estilo heavy power progresivo, bastante americano, pone a estos estadounidenses en el grupo de bandas que destacan por la cuidada calidad de sus obras, hasta la fecha de esta reseña, cuatro LP's de estudio, si incluimos este "Sounds of the forgotten" cuya salida oficial se espera para el próximo mes de mayo. Canciones para una vida - Thornbridge - My Last Desire

MY  LAST  DESIRE

Nuevamente estamos ante un ejercicio "Orden Oganiano" a través del segundo adelanto de la nueva obra de los germanos "Thornbridge" que en marzo editarán el tercer LP de su carrera, "Daydream Illusion".  Es de esperar a juzgar por su trayectoria que la banda siga por esa senda tan clónica y aunque eso pueda generar muchas críticas, a los que nos gusta ese tipo de sonido nos parece fenomenal, sea como sea cada banda tiene derecho a mirarse en el espejo que quieran, y este es un espejo muy favorecedor.
