Canciones para una vida - Axenstar - Heavenly Symphony

 

HEAVENLY  SYMPHONY

Como resulta evidente a través del título de la obra, "Chapter VIII" estamos ante el octavo LP de estudio de los suecos Axestar, una banda de esas que nacieron en la escena y la fecha perfectas para desarrollar el sonido que practican, (Suecia, comienzos de siglo y power metal de corte europeo). Sin embargo, desde el pricipio siempre he tenido esa sensación de que se les percibe como una banda de segunda línea, y su carrera creo que en cierto modo ha visto como esta sensación repercutía en cierta medida en su desarrollo, quizá se antoje un tanto escasa su producción musical para tan larga trayectoria. En definitiva, "Chapter VIII"  verá la luz de forma oficial a primeros de diciembre de este 2023, y de momento nos dejan el primer adelanto, "Heavenly Symphony" un tema power de manual, muy clásico dentro del europower, del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Royal Air Force - I'm Sneaking On You

 

I'M  SNEAKING  ON  YOU

"Royal Air Force" es otro claro ejemplo de esa idea que dejaba hace unos días en el blog referente a lo global, desde el principio, del heavy metal como sonido, en la década de los ochenta, puesto que, aunque claramente el sonido se centro mucho en Europa y Norte América, la diversidad de escenas era grande, dominada sobre todo por Inglaterra y Estados Unidos, pero flanqueada por casi cualquier país, aunque por lo general con mucha menor repercusión fuera de sus fronteras. Pero aquellos que lo intentaban más internacionalmente, sobre todo los que se aventuraban a crear su sonido en inglés, siempre contaban con una oportunidad. Hoy retorno a otra de estas bandas, los citados "Royal Air Force", desde la escena italiana, por aquellos años muy menor en estas lides metálicas, pero que dejo buenos intentos comom este debut en formato EP, de nombre identico al de la banda, del que hoy dejo en el blog otro de sus temas, "I'm Sneaking on you", de 1985, del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Snowmen - Midnight Lady

 

MIDNIGHT  LADY

Otra banda más de las que diluidas en el anonimato tras una breve carrera musical, en este caso concreto con una marcada personalidad en escena, marcados por una especie de imagen "Kiss" pero completamente de blanco comom color corporativo, se trata de los estadounidenses "Snowmen", que desarrollaron ese sonido en la línea del hard 'n heavy tan común en esos años de los ochenta, y permanecieron en activo entre 1977 y 1983, editando un único LP de estudio, "Snowmen" en 1982. Poco más que añadir, una banda más con potencial suficiente pero que desarrollaron su sonido en una escena y época muy saturada de bandas donde realmente pocas llegaban a ser grupos de masas, más allá de calidades, pero directamente relacionado con apoyos y promociones. Canciones para una vida - Theocracy - Mosaic

 

MOSAIC

Desconozco el motivo por el que esta banda no muestra una mayor continuidad, o mejor dicho una mayor frecuencia a la hora de editar discos, ya que la calidad que demuestra obra tras obra es innegable y da siempre esa sensación de necesidad de más, claro está, si en tus gustos está el power progresivo que practica impecablemente esta banda estadounidense, "Theocracy". Da la sensación de que la banda nos va regalando sus obras demasiado espaciadamente, y es que en más de veinte años de actividad tan solo cinco LP's de estudio, y eso contando este "Mosaic" que verá la luz este proximo mes de octubre, se antoja insificiente sobre todo por la calidad que demuestran. El caso es que en estos días nos han dejado su segundo adelanto del citado "Mosaic", concretamente el tema que dará nombre a la obra y del que dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - The Rods - Heat Of The Night

 

HEAT  OF  THE  NIGHT

Hoy traigo al blog de nuevo a la banda estadounidense "The Rods", pero lo hago a través de un pequeño paréntesis que el grupo hizo en la primera parte de su carrera, el primer periodo de actividad que duró entre 1980 y 1987, en el que editaron seis de sus nueve albumes de estudio, y lo hago, a través del mencionado paréntesis que no fue sino una especie de proyecto paralelo pero con los mismos integrantes más un vocalista, seguramente para dar salida a material que no pensaban que debería salir en el editado bajo el nombre de "The Rods". Así, bajo la denominación de Canedy, Feinstein, Bordonaro y Caudle editan "Hollywood" en 1986, que posteriormente, ya en la segunda parte de actividad de su carrera, entre 2010 y la actualidad editan bajo el nombre, ahora sí, de "The Rods", allá por 2015. El caso es que este material quizá este algo más orientado al hard rock que el previo, y ese fuese el detonante de editarlo bajo otra imagen. Canciones para una vida - Parasite - Lonely Eagle

 

LONELY  EAGLE

Otro clarisimo ejemplo de bandas potencialmente capaces de algo muy grande pero que se quedaron en apenas una pequeña pincelada de lo que podría haber llegado a ser. Estamos hablando de los suecos "Parasite" que desarrollan su carrera breve entre los años 1981 y 1985 con la publicación de un único material en formato EP titulado con el nombre de la banda "Parasite", un total de cinco canciones, algo menos de veinte minutos que fueron sin embargo tiempo y material suficientes como para que el paso del tiempo haya dejado claro su citado potencial y esa sensación repetida de banda prematuramente perdida en el anonimato. Hoy dejo en el blog otro ejemplo con otro de sus temas, en este caso el que cierra el EP, "Lonely Eagle" lleva por título y de ella dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Crossfire - See You In Hell

 

SEE  YOU  IN  HELL

La enésima demostración de que el fenómeno del heavy metal era desde el inicio bastante global, a pesar de que siempre se haya vendido como algo de sobre todo un par o tres de escenas, encabezadas por los Británicos y los estadounidenses y en menor medida después por los germanos, lo cierto es que muchas otras escenas "menores" desarrollaron bandas de primer nivel aunque no siempre, o de hecho muy pocas veces reconocidas. Hablamos de los ochenta, como no, y hoy vuelvo la mirada otra vez hacia la la escena belga para rescatar a otra banda en clave de heavy metal, en este caso a "Crossfire", quienes permanecieron en activo entre 1980 y 1987, publicando solo dos LP's que fueron suficientes para mostrar el innegable potencial a pesar del poco éxito internacional cosechado. En 1983 debutan con "See you in hell", del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog el tema que da nombre a la obra, heavy metal de la vieja escuela, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Sieges Even - The road To Iliad

 

THE  ROADS  TO  ILIAD

Vamos con una mezcla, digamos, poco habitual, el thrash con un concepto compositivo progresivo, a ello, hay que añadir el dato del momento en que se dió, finales de los 80, una época fenomenal para el thrash, pero no tanto para la vertiente progresiva, y menos unida, como decía más arriba, al thrash. Se trata de los germanos "Sieges Even", un grupo que intermitentemente siguió sacando material de estudio, aunque cambiando un poco su estilo, centrándolo poco a poco más en la vertiente progresiva, con cambios también incluidos de nombre de la banda. El caso es que entre 1982 y 2008, en diferentes épocas editaron un total de 7 LP's de estudio, el primero de ellos de 1988, "Lifecycle", con el enfoque más "Thrash" de todas sus obras, pero con ese trasfondo progresivo absolutamente presente, y del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus temas, concretamente uno de los temas instrumentales, "The roads to Iliad" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

La enésima banda de esas absolutamente anónimas, con potencial, de breve carrera, de aún más breve discografía, que desarrollo su carrera en la década de los ochenta y en el marco sonoro del heavy metal de corte clásico, estos de origen y escuela estado unidense. Al final todas estas bandas, con sus breves incursiones, con esa demostración de potencial lo que nos cuentan es, sobre todo ese innegable poder para generar bandas en la década de los ochenta, que como siempre decimos, en una escena tan saturada apenas tenían una ocasión de asomarse para sumergirse de nuevo en la marea anónima de bandas condenadas al olvido. Segundo adelanto del nuevo LP de los germanos, la banda tras la que Piet Sielk se muestra como el lider que es, siempre con una importante carga histórica muchas veces ya explicada en este blog, y que aunque parezca que a fuego lento por el gran número de años de acitividad, la discografía de Iron Savior va poco a poco aumentando su importancia, su reconocimiento y su peso específico. Volvamos al segundo LP de los finlandeses "Frozen Land" para destacar otro de sus temas incluidos en este "Out of the dark" del presente 2023. Desde luego que esta banda desde su debut demostró el enorme potencial que atesoran, mostró por donde podían ir los tiros compositivos para su carrera futura e ilusionó a mucha gente con el posible futuro que prometen. SONG  OF  THE  DUSK

Los finlandeses Insomnium, dueños de un reconocido, reconocible y fino death melódico, han editado este 2023 su noveno album de estudio, y han decidido la formula de tratar de vender los temas escogidos para formar parte de los bonus track de las ediciones especiales del citado noveno album, en formato EP reuniendo los tres temas. Más allá de la intención recaudatoria o no de la banda, es además una ocasión de hacerse con los tres bonus si te habías hecho con la edición inicial, y además, supuestamente este triplete de temas ofrecen un final alternativo al hilo conductor de la historia del disco. Canciones para una vida - Tower Hill - Deathstalker

 

DEATHSTALKER

Primer paso en formato LP de la banda canadiense Tower Hill que tan buena impresión dejase en su primer material editado en formato demo . Parece indudable que al final van a dar que hablar, a juzgar por el primero de los adelantos del que será su primer album para finales de este 2023. Los canadienses han firmado con el sello "No remorse" y parece que la banda, apoyada en principio solo en el músico R.F. Traynor, que se encarga de todos los instrumntos y la composición así como de la parte vocal, se ha reforzado con dos guitarristas, bajista y batería.El primero de los adelantos lleva el nombre del disco , "Deathstalker", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Icon Of Sin - The Scarlet Gospels

 

THE  SCARLET  GOSPELS

Vamos con otra banda de reciente formación, en esta ocasión de la cantera brasileña, la cual, con mayor o menor acierto es una cantera que da muchísimos grupos, aunque realmente son solo un puñado de ellos los que conquistan en mayor o menor medida la atención del gran público. Formados en 2020 han editado ya dos LP's de estdio en este breve periodo, el segundo de ellos, "Legends" en este 2023, (oficialmente el cuatro de agosto). Su sonido camina a media distancia entre varias cosas, acercádose más al heavy metal clásico que a otros subgéneros, y con unas tesituras vocales y en ocasiones compositivas que pueden traer reminiscencias maidenianas.
