THE  HUNTER

Una vez más encuentro en los inicios de una banda el mejor de sus momentos,,algo que, sobre todo al mirar en la década de los ochenta veo casi como recurrente. En esta ocasión me quiero referir a los alemanes "Victory" quienes han dado forma a una carrera larga aunque con muchos cambios, no solo de integrantes donde la lista es larga y de categoría, sino también en lo estilístico, con unos incios que rondaban el heavy metal, hard 'N heavy, para ir rolando progresivamente a un sonido más hard, algo igualmente muy "típico" en algunas bandas de incios de los 80 que veían como la "fiebre" hard rockera americana se apoderaba del final de dicha década y decidían tirar por esa senda. Hoy, como decía más arriba, quiero volver la mirada a los incios de esta banda, y fijarme en una de las épocas de su sonido que más me han gustado, en concreto sus dos primeras obras, "Victory" de 1985 y "Don't get mad get even" de 1986, (sobre todo esta segunda). El tema que hoy dejo en el blog es de su primer LP "Victory" del 85, donde particularmente me encantaba el trabajo vocal de Charlie Huhn, que repetiría en su segundo magnífico trabajo, En su debut mostraban ya el tremendo potencial que atesoraban, un disco a medio camino de muchas cosas y en mi opinión muy disfrutable, y del que hoy dejo en el blog la canción "The Hunter" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Warrior - Ruler

 

RULER

La versatilidad acompañada de calidad evidente hace de esta banda estadounidense uno de esos ejemplos recurrentes de banda con derecho a más. A mas reconocimiento, a mayor repercusión y por tanto a más fertil carrera y más longeva En cuanto a longevidad desde luego, si tenemos en cuenta que el status de la banda aparece como activos, habrá que puntualizar que su actividad no ha sido refrendada con la producción regular de obras cada X años, yo me refiero a una carrera con discos constantes y activa en todos los sentidos, algo que por desgracia aquíno ha sucedido. Debemos también introducir el factor temporal, es decir , si atendemos al magnífico album de Warrior que hoy vuelvo a traer al blog, "Fighting for the earth" de 1985, su debut, y que practicamente tras su salida se separasen para reunirse posteriormente, es ahí donde está lo trágico de la no continuidad, ese momento de la banda fue irrepetible y parecía el comienzo de una carrera descomunal que luego nunca más se dió, ni en lo potencial ni en lo real. De todas maneras la obra merece mención en su conjunto y completa debe valorarse con temas como el que dejo en el blog hoy, "Ruler", heavy metal de ese auténtico, de época, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Lions Breed - Neon City

 

NEON  CITY

Ya he hablado en este blog, inevitablemente de "Scanner" la fantástica banda alemana, y, hoy, al hacerlo de "Lions Breed" casi puede decirse que vuelvo a hacerlo, ya que se trata del proyecto a través del que los citados "Scanner" dieron sus primeros pasos en esto de la música antes de cambiarse el nombre definitivamente. Tres de los miembros que formaban parte de Lions Breed dieron el paso hacia el ca,bio de nombre, toda la sección de cuerda, guitarristas y bajista. Se trata de un sonido que mostraba ya esa capacidad y el futuro que estaba por llegar, con un concepto de heavy metal un tanto speed, Lions Breed se sacaron de la manga un solo LP, "Damn The Night", en 1985, pero fue un disco más que aconsejable, una obra que disfrutar por completo, más sabiendo hacia donde se dirigían musicalmente. Sonido clásico de corte europeo, para amantes de los Accept, maiden y compañía, sonido muy hijo de su concepción, absolutamente de mediados de los ochenta, con todo lo bueno que eso implica. Canciones para una vida - Helstar - Burning Star

 

BURNING  STAR

1984 fue el año escogido por los estadounidenses "Helstar" para editar su album debut en esto de la música, una banda de la que ya he hablado en el blog. Hablamos de un heavy metal en clave clásica, un heavy metal muy de su cantera, ese toque americano presente en todo momento, un sonido además muy hijo tammbién de ese momento, aún comienzos de la década de los ochenta, una época de riqueza musical impresionante, con bandas por doquier, y escenas incipientes que comenzaban a explotar miemtras otras más habituales, (como la estadounidense que nos ocupa) seguían produciendo bandas como si no costase. Al fin, siempre se recupera, por fuerza, el argumento de que no siempre de la mano va la calidad y el éxito, si así fuese en todos los casos, estos "Helstar" deberían haber tenido mayor fortuna. Obra pues recomendable y completa, con muchos momentos destacables, sin ir más lejos el arranque de la obra, y su tema homónimo al título de la misma, "Burning Star", un resumen de heavy metal, de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Lancer - Freedom Eaters

 

FREEDOM  EATERS

Lancer es una banda sueca, uno de esos grupos que llevo mucho tiempo queriendo traer al blog pero que siempre por uno u otro motivo termino dejando de lado, a pesar de todo, aunque hoy parece que ya no lo voy a demorar más. Hablamos de power de corte europeo, power de ese un pelín acelerado, flirteando con ese heavy acelerado que se dio por llamar speed metal, aunque terminan teniendo un nexo mayor con la etiqueta power. Llevan en activo desde el año 2009, tiempo en el que han editado 3 LP's y un EP. En realidad actualmente la banda solo cuenta con uno de los miembros originales y en 2018 una de las señas de la banda Isak Stenvall dejo su puesto de cantante. Si tenemos en cuenta que también el puesto de batería está recién cubierto, y que su último trabajo editado es de 2017, "Mastery", miro el futuro de la banda con curiosidad de por donde van a salir, aunque seguro que su continuidad no estará en peligro por ese motivo. Como digo tres LP's adornan su discografía y hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de las canciones pertenecientes a su tercer y, hasta la fecha de esta reseña, último trabajo de estudio, "Mastery" de 2017, en concreto "Freedom Eaters" donde muestran bien claro cuales son sus gustos compositivos.

Canciones para una vida - Iron Mask - Master Of Masters

 

MASTER  OF  MASTERS

Otra de las grandes canciones del nuevo y ya séptimo LP dentro de la discografía de los belgas "Iron Mask" es la que da nombre a la obra, "Master Of Masters", buen ejemplo del nivel de madurez compositiva en que Petrossi se encuentra en todos sus proyectos y "Iron Mask" no iba a ser menos. La verdad es que se han sacado de la manga una obra completa, de gran calidad, fácil de abordar y efectiva en muchos de sus momentos, siguiendo esa línea de calidad de su anterior obra "Diabolica" de 2016. En esta ocasión la pretensión del compositor fue hacer una obra un punto más contundente pero el espiritu de la banda y de su trayectoria es completamente reconocible. Una de esas obras recomendables de este 2020 recién terminado dentro del power. Dejo pues un enlace a youtube de este "Master of masters".

Canciones para una vida - Demon - Night Of The Demon

 

NIGHT  OF  THE  DEMON

Con una vocación un tanto ocultista nació a banda británica "Demon", un clásico en esto del heavy que ha desarrollado su carrera desde 1979 en adelante dividida en dos partes, una primera hasta 1992 y una segunda parte desde 1996 en adelante. En total 13 LP's componen su discografía a fecha de esta reseña, y el estilo, aunque varialble en cierta medida va desde un heavy muy NWOBHM de sus inicios, con toques siempre hard n heavy, a un hard más americanizado si se quiere y alguna pincelada progresiva incluso en ocasiones. El punto ocultista más que reflejarse en el estilo lo hacía en su temática en sus dos primeros LP's para luego dar paso a un aspecto sonoro más hard 'n heavy, más alegre u optimista. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de las canciones de su debut, "Night of the demon" una obra en la que mostraban su capacidad y mostraban que su intención era quedarse largo tiempo, cosa que siguen haciendo. A pesar de no ser una obra reconocida por todos, la banda muestra ese gran potencial en ella y resulta muy completa y recomendable sobre todo teniendo en cuenta que se trata de una "opera prima" y que hablamos de ese sonido clásico de 1981  Si este sonido es de tu agrado te gustarán Demon en este "Night of the demon", del que dejo en el blog la canción homónima al título de la obra.

RUN  FROM  THE  CRUSHING  TIDE

De nuevo un repaso a lo que ha dado de si este 2020 en lo musical me hace recurrir al último LP de los finlandeses "Ensiferum", una obra que afortunadamente retoma bastante la senda compositiva de antes y abre la puerta a la esperanza de que vuelvan a recuperar el cetro de su sonido clásico. Sin ser ni de lejos la mejor de sus obras esa esperanza de la recuperación de su espíritu compositivo es suficiente para ocupar un lugar importante entre las nuevas obras de este año, y quiero aprovechar para dejar otra de las canciones que la componen, "Run from the crushing tide", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Drakkar - Knights Of Pendragon

 

KNIGHTS  OF  PENDRAGON

Otra banda que parece estar buscando la mejor fórmula posible para seguir subsistiendo es Drakkar, los italianos que llevan ya a sus espaldas una larguísima trayectoria, formados en 1995 y a los que se puede meter en esa gran cantidad de grupos que surgieron en Italia a mediados y finales de los 90 y que encontraron su hueco con mayor o menor fortuna en el subgénero power de corte épico, que tuvo su máximo exponente por supuesto en Rhapsody. Como digo, Drakkar parece haberse renovado desde mitad de la pasada década, con gran parte de sus componentes recientemente unidos al grupo y buscando la fórmula de los EP's como la forma de mantenerse vivos compositivamente en busca de nuevos horizontes. Desde 2015 no sacan un LP, "Run with the wolf", pero en 2018 editaron el EP "Cold winter's night" y el final de este 2020 ve como lo intentan con otro EP más, "Falling down". En lo compositivo o sonoro poca novedad respecto a lo que siempre han hecho, siguen sonando a los Drakkar de siempre y su propuesta épica, lírico vikinga y fantástica sigue en plena vigencia. Canciones para una vida - Brothers Of Metal - Emblas Saga

  

EMBLAS  SAGA

Estos momentos del año son siempre buenos para hacer un resumen de lo que ha dado este 2020 de sí en lo musical, de cuales han sido las obras que a uno más le han llenado, que bandas nuevas han aparecido en escena o que grupos han crecido en su carrera particularmente. Y si hacemos este ejercicio en este 2020 no podía faltar la segunda de las obras de los suecos "Brothers Of Metal" de la que he traido ya al blog gran parte de lo que supone este "Emblas Saga". La verdad es que poco más que añadir, solo reiterar una vez más la realidad que ya supone este grupo en la escena internacional y la promesa de alcanzar la cima absoluta de seguir esta línea en futuras producciones. Que mejor manera reconocer la valía de esta obra que dejando otro de sus temas, y que mejor que el que da nombre a la misma, "Emblas saga", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Tungsten - Life And The Ocean

 

LIFE  AND  THE  OCEAN

Nuevamente traigo al blog la segunda de las obras de los suecos "Tungsten", como ya se sabe, la banda que Anders Johansson ha formado con sus hijos Karl y Nick que a finales de este 2020 ha visto su salida de forma oficial. Una vez escuchado con tranquilidad y reposo he de decir que mi sensación, como siempre guiada por mis gustos personales, lleva a estos chicos a escoger esa senda que de continuar así parece emprender el camino hacia la parte, de las dos preponderantes que marcan el sonido de la banda, que menos me gusta, es decir, entre la influencia Power de coret europeo y el punto industrial parecen ir decantando la balanza con respecto a su debut hacia este segundo subgénero, aunque aún con muchos puntos de power muy presentes. Espero que sigan dandole la importancia en futuras obras porque para mi gusto son las partes y temas que se salvan de la obra. Siempre quiero subrayar lo interesante de la mezcla mientras se mantenga en equilibrio, y hoy, quiero recuperar otro de los temas que me han gustado de este "Tundra", en este caso el tema tranquilito, o medio tiempo "Life and the ocean", absolutamente destacable, de esas canciones que entran desde la primera escucha y de la que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Def Leppard - Too Late For Love

 

TOO  LATE  FOR  LOVE

Otra de esas bandas que no necesitan presentación es "Def Leppard", los británicos que comenzaran allá por 1977, y cuyo sonido ha ido saltando desde una imagen sonora cercana al heavy metal  hasta, progresivamente ir haciendose cada vez más hardrockera para terminar diluyendo casi hasta lo de "Hard". A través de las diferentes épocas la banda ha editado un total de once LP's de estudio, practicamente siempre con el éxito de su lado y las ventas haciendo de ellos una de las bandas más "vendedoras". Siempre es respetable una carrera de este calibre, a pesar de que el grupo haya llegado incluso a renegar de sus origenes, pero, sobre todo, la primera parte de su carrera tiene momento esenciales para esto del heavy, lo niegue quien lo niegue, incluso ellos. Hoy quiero de nuevo volver la mirada hacia sus inicios, la época que más me gusta, inevitablemente, de su carrera, para referirme a su tercer LP de estudio "Pyromania", de 1983. Con un cierto regusto Hard N heavy se trata de una obra en la que la banda ya había crecido bastante a nivel internacional y el éxito de ventas de este tercer disco mostró que sin duda alguna el camino a seguir sería el de este album abandonando cada vez más el trasfondo heavy en el camino. Canciones para una vida - Serious Black - Castor Skies

 

CASTOR  SKIES

A pesar de que en el momento actual, esta banda internacional tiene poco que ver en cuanto a sus integrantes con el momento inicial de su carrera, el espíritu compositivo si que ha ido manteniendose en esta banda que nació con esa vocación de proyecto colaborativo que ha sabido perpetuarse y además con un importante volumen productivo, sacando ya el grupo 5 LP's de estudio en algo más de seis años de vida. Hablamos de power melódico, de corte europeo, que en un inicio fue impulsado por nombres importantes como Roland Grapow o Thomen Stauch. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de las canciones de su segundo LP, "Mirrorworld", de 2016, disco pleno del espiritu de su debut, con la melodía por bandera y la calidad compositiva y productiva como ley, nos dejan temas como su segundo singlem "Castor Skies", canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Metalian - Burn It Down

 

BURN  IT  DOWN

Si en la anterior entrada hablaba del heavy metal original, el de comienzos de los ochenta, en esta ocasión hablaré de una de esas bandas que apropiandose de aquel espíritu primigenio decidieron aplicarlo conceptualmente al siglo XXI, y claro, para los amantes del sonido clásico dentro del heavy metal la noticia no podría ser mejor, es de hecho, todo un nuevo movimiento que recupera esa esencia dentro de la escena actual, un movimiento no enfocado en una sola nación o escena sino que se trata de algo planetario, y entre ellos están estos "Metalian" desde Canada, como uno de los ejemplos destacados. Como digo todo amante del heavy de la old school gsutará de escuchar a esta banda formada en 2003 y ya con 3 LP's de estudio. Del segundo de ellos, "Midnight rider" de 2017, quiero dejar hoy en el blog otra de sus canciones, "Burn it down" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Sarcofagus - Envoy Of Death

 

ENVOY  OF  DEATH

Vuelvo al punto de inicio cronológico, al año desde el que en este blog he decidido recopilar nuestro sonido, es decir 1980, un año escogido por el significado que históricamente tuvo desde la perspectiva de la explosión absoluta del heavy metal como sonido reconocido y reconocible que hasta esa década había ido naciendo y desarrollandose y que en la de los ochenta se asentó, se hizo grande y se diversificó en subgéneros definitivamente. Hoy quiero traer al blog a una banda que decidió sacar material ese año, por varios motivos, se trata de "Sarcofagus", uno de los motivos aparte del musical en si mismo evidentemente, es el de su origen, "Finlandia", ya que era por aquellos entonces era la finlandesa una escena poco común, pero al mismo tiempo esto evidenciaba que la extensión del heavy metal era algo a nivel planetario a pesar de que la escena británica y la estadounidense fueran los pilares más evidentes. Otro de los motivos fue la extraña forma de desarrollar su carrera de estos finlandeses, "Sarcofagus", ya que editarían dos discos en ese año 1980, "Cycle of life" y "Envoy of death". Después un largo silencio compositivo hasta 2004 en que retomaron una carrera que en teoría sigue en activo. Hablamos de un sonido muy de esa época, un heavy metal con un cierto toque de la NWOBHM. De su segundo LP, "Envoy of death" quiero dejar en el blog la canción que da nombre a la obra, "Envoy of death" que reafirma mejor que ninguna palabra lo dicho en relación a la explosión planetaria del sonido metálico a comienzos de los ochenta apoyandose en lo que venía sucediendo en la década anterior.
