NIGHT  OF  THE  BLADE

Nacida en el seno del movimiento de la NWOBHM, los británicos "Tokyo Blade" han sabido moverse por varios estilos, incluyendo alguna época más cercana a un hard más comercial y otras más orientadas al heavy metal de la vieja escuela europea. A su vez han sabido sobrevivir hasta nuestros días, no sin periodos inestables, de casi ruptura o inactividad, pero si miras a la formación actual verás a la mayoría de los mismos músicos que comenzaron esta aventura. Adoptando su denominación desde 1983 en adelante, (ya que anteriormente se habían hecho llamar "White diamond", "Killer" o "Genghis Khan", han editado a lo largo de su carrera nueve LP's y 6 EP's. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una canción de su segundo LP, "Night of the blade" de 1984, en una honda más cercana al heavy metal como decía más arriba, concretamente la canción que da nombre a la obra, de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

LAMENT  OF  THE  RAVENOUS

Siempre que hablo de esta banda tengo que empezar advirtiendo de mi debilidad por ellos, siendo uno de esos grupos que te entran desde el comienzo de su carrera, y, si bien, tras el espectacular debut y el largo parón hasta la salida del segundo LP, que me resultó un tanto decepcionante, quizá también por el largo tiempo de espera precisamente y el citado interés personal en ellos, llega este tercer LP, ya con más continuidad, un enorme acierto y una variedad suficiente para hacer de su escucha un refrescante acto de disfrute total. Disco absolutamente recomendable del que ya he dejado la mitad en el blog y del que hoy dejo la canción "Lament Of the ravenous", un medio tiempo épico del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Heidra - Into Cursed Lands

INTO  CURSED  LANDS

 Tercera ocasión en la que acudo a esta obra de los daneses "Heidra", una banda con un recorrido más largo de lo que su discografía podría dar a entender ya que llevan en esto desde 2006 y tan solo han editado dos LP's de estudio, (hasta la fecha de esta reseña). Estamos ante una de esas bandas que lo hace muy bien, dentro de un estilo death melódico con toques folk, ya que su pretensión desde el principio fue la de nutrirse del floclore nórdico algo que tiene indudablemente un reflejo en su sonido. De los dos LP's el que más me gusta es este "Awaiting Dawn" de su debut, una obra de 2014 que recomiendo a todos los amantes del género como una obra completa y que una vez más sin duda hubiera merecido mayor repercusión. Canciones para una vida - Sabaton - Great War

GREAT  WAR

Otra de las canciones destacables del nuevo disco de "Sabaton" es la casi homónima al titulo de la obra, "Great War", que ha sido escogida como cuarto single de la banda, lo que es también un buen termómetro de la magnitud y repercusión de esta banda en los tiempos que corren. El sonido una vez más es bien reconocible, y es que estos tíos saben que su fórmula funciona y no ven la necesidad de cambiarla, antes al contrario han acercado a su modelo compositivo a muchas bandas que ven en ellos un espejo en el que mirarse, y no es, desde luego mal espejo el de los suecos. Canciones para una vida - Narnia - The Armor Of God

THE  ARMOR  OF  GOD

Octavo disco ya de estudio de los suecos Narnia, un grupo con una larga trayectoria que se remonta a 1996, año de su formación, y que tuvo un periodo de parón entre 2010 y 2014 donde retomaron, con gran acierto, de nuevo su carrera. La estabilidad de la banda es absolutamente reseñable, con tan solo el cambio en el puesto de bajo en 2017, lo que también, como siempre digo, ayuda a que una banda alcance una gran longevidad así como esa sensación de sonido propio y reconocibilidad. Siguen en la línea argumental de toda su carrera, con temas cristianos en las letras de sus canciones y ese sonido power de corte europeo, como decía más arriba tan reconocible. El disco que nos ocupa lleva por nombre "From darkness to light" habiendo visto la luz de forma oficial el pasado mes de agosto, y de él quiero hoy dejar la canción "The armor of God", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Tungsten - We Will Rise

WE  WILL  RISE

 Tungsten es una banda sueca de reciente formación que en breve nos presentará de forma oficial su primer material de estudio. A pesar de que parezca que el grupo sale de ninguna parte, hay que tener en cuenta un dato muy importante tras este grupo, el apellido Johansson, que todo el mundo que lleve mucho tiempo siguiendo esto del heavy metal en seguida relacionará con bandas tan importantes como Silver Mountain, Hammerfall, Yngwie Malmsteen, Stratovarius, Johansson o Fullforce entre otras, siempre en el puesto de batería en el que goza de una excelente y merecida reputación. Con una carrera tan larga y exitosa, con semejante conocimiento de los entresijos del mundillo metálico desde dentro, Anders decide en 2016 intentar crear una banda con sus dos hijos Karl (al bajo) y Kick (a la guitarra). Después, tirando de contactos y músicos con los que ha compartido banda recluta a Mike Andersson, con el que comparte banda en Fullforce, para que se encargue del apartado vocal. De esta manera han diseñado un grupo en la línea de lo hecho con Hammerfall, un power muy de comienzos de siglo, muy de corte europeo que hará las delicias de los amantes del género. Canciones para una vida - Saint Deamon - Captain Saint D

CAPTAIN  SAINT  D

Llevaba ya esta buena banda toda una década sin dar señales de vida compositivas y han escogido este 2019 para dar continuidad a su discografía con este tercer LP, "Ghost", que hoy traigo al blog. Estamos ante una banda sueca que hace un power metal de corte europeo en una escena (la sueca) que siempre ha dado mucho de sí pero que particularmente en este último par de años está siendo uno de los principales impulsores del sonido metálico por su enorme cantidad de bandas nuevas y viejas que están editando material ultimamente, y siempre con esa calidad que es seña de identidad de esta escuela. Saint Deamon nace en 2006 y desde el principio se decantó por el power metal, con unos tintes un tanto progresivos si se quiere. Desde el comienzo la estabilidad de sus componentes ha sido grande y para la ocasión de la salida de este tercer LP "Ghost" tan solo ha habido variación en el puesto de batería. Así pues, si te gusta el material más antiguo de la banda estás de enhorabuena, y si no lo conocías es una ocasión estupenda para descubrir a un grupo que tiene por costumbre hacerlo muy bien. Canciones para una vida - Wind Rose - Drunken Dwarves

DRUNKEN  DWARVES

A medida que va transcurriendo la carrera de esta banda se va viendo el giro total hacia esa vertiente de power folk metal en la que el grupo se siente tan cómodo, desde sus inicios un tanto más sinfónico progresivos, un cambio que se va notando incluso en el logo, para la ocasión despojado de adornos. La cuestión es que tenemos ya a la vista el cuarto LP de los italianos, y a juzgar por lo escuchado en sus dos primeros adelantos podemos estar ante u paso más en su carrera, en la citada dirección, un trasfondo épico y todos los tópicos posibles de género, incluyendo el vestuario y la ambientación de todo, clips incluidos. La obra titulada "Wintersaga" saldrá a la venta de forma oficial a finales de este septiembre, y el segundo adelanto de la misma  es este "Drunken Dwarves" del que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Barren Cross - Rock For The King

ROCK  FOR  THE  KING

Otro de esos nichos sonoros en los que rebuscar, sobre todo en lo que se refiere a la década de los 80, es el que fue llamado "Hard 'n heavy", que mezclaba ambas vertientes y que muchas bandas practicaron, saltando de canciones o discos más cercanos al heavy metal clásico y otros momentos más cercanos al hard rock que tanto tirón fue teniendo, como digo, sobre todo durante la década de los 80. A todo esto hay que sumar el grado de mezcla que practicaban las bandas lo que terminaba por ofrecer muchos grupos más difíciles de clasificar mirando el momento de su discografía. Una de esas bandas fue "Barren Cross", estadounidenses, unos de los que más practicaron esa fórmula, una banda que se formó en 1983 y que desarrollo la mayor parte de su actividad hasta 1990, aunque haya tenido otros momentos más de unión y cese en su actividad que en realidad se ha extendido hasta nuestros días. Como particularidad se puede destacar la enorme estabilidad de su formación, algo cada vez más difícil de ver. Los inicios de esta banda cristiana en su concepción lírica fueron más cercanos al heavy metal, para después flirtear más con el hard rock de corte americano. Canciones para una vida - Nordic Union - Because Of Us

BECAUSE  OF  US

 De nuevo la mezcla de bandas y músicos de primera linea solo puede llegar a buen puerto, y la única duda si se dan esas premisas es saber cuanto puede durar uno de esos proyectos paralelos antes de que alguna de las partes se cansen. En esta ocasión este es el segundo LP que edita "Nordic Union", con la mezcla de melodía híbrida entre las bandas madre de los dos músico principales e impulsores del proyecto, Ronnie Atkins de "Pretty Maids" y Erik Martensson de "Eclipse", es decir melodía, una base hard heavy, muy buen gusto compositivo y una larga trayectoria como seguro de vida. Otro de los temas destacados de la obra es este "Because of us" del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog un enlace a yotube.

Canciones para una vida - Frozen Crown - The Shiedmaiden

THE  SHIELDMAIDEN

Otra de las ya reseñadas con anterioridad, sorpresas positivas de 2018, que además ha tenido una rápida continuidad en este 2019. Debo decir que me ha gustado más en general el disco debut, este "The fallen kingdom" del que hoy quiero dejar otra de sus canciones en el blog, que "Crowned in frost" de 2019 como decía más arriba, con más elementos death en lo vocal que se entremezclan con la voz limpia sobre todo femenina, una voz femenina que se termina por hacer omnipresente en la segunda obra que por lo tanto pierde un poco esa variedad y riqueza. Hoy quiero pues dejar en el blog la canción "The Shieldmaiden", canción que fue el primer single de la banda y del disco, y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Frozen Land - Underworld (Manala)

UNDERWORLD  (MANALA)

Otra de las nuevas bandas de reciente creación que más me han gustado dentro de su estilo Power fue "Frozen Land", de Finlandia, una banda que en muchos aspectos está rememorando los mejores momentos de bandas como Stratovarius, con ese concepto clásico dentro del power. Ya he dejado en el blog otra canción de esta obra, "Frozen Land", homónima al nombre de la banda, un disco de 2018 que ha resultado ser una de las sorpresas positivas para mí del citado año. Sin inventar nada nuevo si que han cogido el testigo de ese sonido que reino a finales de los 90 haciendolo un poco más propio y despertando buenas expectativas para lo que pueda venir más adelante. Hoy dejo otro buen ejemplo para ilustrar lo que digo, la canción "Underworld (Manala)", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Estate - Knight Of Hope

KNIGHT  OF  HOPE

Ya en su primer disco esta banda rusa, "Estate" dejo un buen sabor de boca, esa sensación de que en el futuro nos dejarían más de un momento bueno en esto de la música, y este segundo LP, "Mirrorland" parece confirmar esa idea. Editado el pasado 2018 redunda en el concepto inicial, confirmando ese camino iniciado en el que buscan un estilo propio que poco a poco van encontrando. Su sonido podría acotarse dentro del power metal, con arreglos pero sin poder encasillarlo como sinfónico, con destellos progresivos pero sin llegar a llenarlo todo con esa vertiente, con guiños épicos e incluso folk pero sin decantarse del todo por ese camino tampoco, sin duda una banda que busca su propio sonido. Además para la ocasión de este segundo álbum han contado con la colaboración de músicos invitados tales como Mats Leven o Mark Boals, cantantes de sobrada reputación que aquí contribuyen a dar a la banda un punto más. Hoy quiero dejar precisamente una de las canciones en las que colabora uno de esos cantantes invitados, en concreto Mark Boals (conocido entre otros por colaborar con bandas de la talla de Yngwie, Royal Hunt, Iron Mask, Labyrinth, Ted Nugent, etc,), me refiero a la canción "Knight Of hope", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Metallica - My Friend Of Misery

MY  FRIEND  OF  MISERY

Este es uno de esos discos que pueden considerarse como un punto de inflexión en un grupo, y al tratarse de una banda como Metalica sirve más aún como ejemplo de los que muchas veces sucede en esa lucha interna que muchas bandas sufren, lucha entre lo que realmente quieren hacer y lo que creen que deben hacer para lograr otros objetivos, en casi todos los casos ganar más dinero. Creada la banda con una pretensión de dar luz a un sonido por entonces incipiente como el Thrash Metal, por entonces una evolución de sonidos como el heavy clásico más acelerado llamado Speed, y después dándole un giro de tuerca más, para llegar al citado Thrash, Metallica se encontraba en momento y lugar para ser uno de los co-líderes del nuevo sonido. Todo fue a más en esa primera parte de la carrera de la banda, pero siempre con calidad y fidelidad a la idea original por encima de todo, sin pensar en vender discos, eso vendría de la mano de su innegable calidad. Pero al llegar a este punto de su carrera, y tras obras descomunales como "Ride the Lightning" o "Master of Puppets" por ejemplo quizá el grupo se planteó la posibilidad de llegar por completo al planeta, quizá sacrificando su idea original, pero sin duda el riesgo les debía merecer la pena desde una perspectiva económica, objetivo que lograrían posteriormente con creces y senda de la que este "Black Album" o "Metallica" de 1991 sería el primer paso y punto de inflexión en su sonido. Con aún muchos nexos en común con su material anterior si que sin embargo se podía prever por donde irían los tiros después, para disgusto de todos los amantes por ejemplo del "Kill 'em all", con el que ya poco o nada tenía que ver. Sin embargo a mí me sigue pareciendo un buen disco en su conjunto y por ello quiero hoy dejar en el blog otro de sus temas, hoy en concreto "My friend of misery", un tanto al estilo del anterior disco "And justice for all", y canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Kamelot - Eternity

ETERNITY

 Nos adentramos una vez más en terrenos más progresivos para retomar el primer material de los estadounidenses "Kamelot", un grupo del que ya he hablado en más de una ocasión y que desde luego no necesita de presentación alguna. Como digo, hoy quiero recuperar su material inicial, concretamente su debut en forma de LP, "Eternity" de 1995. Es una larga trayectoria ya la que contempla a esta banda que siempre se ha caracterizado por una exquisita calidad, más allá de lo que pueda agradarte el estilo compositivo. También se trata de un grupo con bastantes cambios en la formación, incluso en algunos puestos tan icónicos como el de cantante, y la parte inicial de la historia de la banda la componían en su mayoría músicos que ya no pertenecen al grupo. Un sonido más cercano al power de la época, con esos rasgos compositivos del metal progresivo, absolutamente reconocibles pero también totalmente incipientes en lo que terminaría por desarrollarse como un rasgo tan propio de la banda. Quiero pues dejar una de las canciones de este "Eternity" de 1995, y que mejor que el tema que da nombre a la obra, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.
