Canciones para una vida - Iron Maiden - Powerslave

POWERSLAVE

Sin duda estamos ante una de esas obras en las que es difícil escoger solo una canción, por eso yo ya he escogido varias para dejar en el blog. Aún más cercanos a la creación de la banda que otra cosa, estábamos con "Powerslave" sin embargo ante una obra en la que la banda había sacado ya cuatro discos de estudio (cinco con este), y el reconocimiento pasado ya empezaba a ser clamor. Además el grupo había pasado ya por muchas situaciones, con cambio de cantante incluido y Dickinson estaba a estas alturas completamente integrado y rayando a la altura de los mejores. Es sin duda este disco de 1984 uno de los hitos en la carrera de la banda y eso se tradujo en cero descartes, todos los temas impresionantes para un disco antológico que solo hizo mayor la leyenda de la banda. Canciones para una vida - Manowar - Bridge Of Death

BRIDGE  OF  DEATH

 Que lejos quedan ya esos años en que una banda como Manowar creaba con la misma fecha dos discos enteritos, sin remezclas, directos ni singles o EP's , discos, y es que hablamos de 1984, y de una época en la que aún no habían llevado al extremo sus pretensiones de dominación sobre el resto de grupos bajo su idea de lo que ha de ser el verdadero sonido metálico. Más allá de esa fama merecida, como banda siempre me han gustado, su sonido es necesario dentro de nuestra música, y además ha ido creando escuela e influencia en otras bandas, y si no existiera Manowar deberían crearlo, pero volviendo la vista atrás, a los incios de su carrera nos encontramos con un grupo que se acercaba más al sonido heavy metal clásico, viéndose unas raices comunes a muchas otras bandas, aunque siempre con su propio toque, por supuesto. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog otra de las canciones de su tercer LP, "Hail To England", de 1984, en concreto la canción que cierra el disco, "Bridge of death" una de esas canciones que me han acompañado toda mi vida y de la que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Avantasia - Alchemy

ALCHEMY

Otro de los temas destacables de la última obra editada por Tobias Sammet bajo el nombre de Avantasia, una banda conocida sobre todo por las colaboraciones de lujo que siempre han llenado sus composiciones y que al final han terminado creando escuela. Esta canción que hoy dejo en el blog "Alchemy" cuenta con una de esas colaboraciones de lujo, a la voz, una canción exquisitamente compuesta y aún mejor interpretada por Sammet y nada menos que Geoff Tate, la voz inconfundible de "Queensryche", uno de los mejores cantantes que ha dado el heavy en mi humilde opinión, y que aporta a este tema ese sentimiento y fuerza que caracterizan sus interpretaciones. Canciones para una vida - Orion's Reign - Nostos

NOSTOS

Orion's Reign es un grupo griego que comenzó en 2001 y que a pesar de la ya larga trayectoria en el tiempo no han editado más que dos LP's, en 2008 y 2018. Sin embargo han adoptado una manera diferente de editar su música y así cuentan con nada menos que trece singles y un EP para complementarla, imagino que es una manera alternativa para darse a conocer, sobre todo si no cuentas con el apoyo de una discográfica de las grandes, y así encontramos además versiones, o villancicos. Sea como sea nos encontramos ante un grupo que se mueve en el power de corte europeo, con tintes sinfónicos y que gusta de incluir colaboraciones en sus temas. Con una lírica en sus canciones que se centra en lo fantástico no es de extrañar que en ocasiones encontremos un ramalazo épico, como en el tema que hoy dejo en el blog, "Nostos", de su segundo LP "Scores of war" de 2018, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Harmony - Eternity

ETERNITY

Otro buen representante de la escuela sueca dentro del power metal, "Harmony", y otra banda que puede englobarse dentro del llamado "White metal" por tratar temas cristianos en sus letras, aunque poco a poco ha ido evolucionando a un sonido con más matices casi progresivos en ocasiones. Desde luego lo que no se le puede negar a la escuela sueca es el volumen de bandas y su altísimo nivel de calidad, desde siempre ha sido así y puntualmente en los últimos años parece haber aún un mayor número de grupos nuevos saliendo de semejante cantera. Harmony se formaron a comienzos de siglo y a pesar de su ya larga trayectoria solo cuentan con 3 LP's y dos EP's, y llevan ya desde 2015 si editar nada nuevo. Desde 2013 cuentan con la incorporación de Daniel Heiman a la voz, (Lost Horizon), todo un plus. Hoy quiero echar la vista atrás, hacia los inicios del grupo, hacia su primer LP, "Dreaming Awake", de 2003, un mucho más que interesante debut del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de sus canciones, un power muy de la época, en pleno apogeo del subgénero. Dejo la canción "Eternity", una canción que sería luego regrabada por la banda en su segundo EP, "Remembrance" de 2015, cantada por Daniel Heiman, pero que hoy dejo la versión inicial cantada por Henrik Bath, y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Heavy Pettin - Hell Is Beautiful

HELL  IS  BEAUTIFUL

Heavy Pettin es un grupo escocés, que tuvo su actividad en la década de los 80. Se trata de un caso más de banda que tiene un prometedor inicio para poco a poco ir diluyéndose hasta desaparecer. Tres LP's conforman su discografía de los que sin duda alguna me quedo con el debut. El grupo se forma en 1981 y aguantan hasta 1988, y en sus inicios su sonido podría catalogarse muy en la línea de la NWOTHM, aunque posteriormente se fue descaradamente hacia el hard americano comercial. Es una lástima que no continuasen en la línea del debut, "Lettin Loose" de 1983, donde el grupo está más cercano al heavy metal que se facturaba en la época. Es curioso en lo vocal, el parecido que se puede encontrar con Biff Byford de Saxon, pudiéndoseles sin duda englobar en similares estilos, (salvando las distancias), aunque pecando más "Heavy Pettin" de un toque Hard heavy mayor. Sea como fuere, este disco "Lettin Loose" merece una escucha y de él se pueden rescatar temas meritorios como este "Hell is beautiful" del que hoy quiero dejar un enlace a youtube en el blog.

Canciones para una vida - DIO - The Last In Line

THE  LAST  IN  LINE

Otro nombre que desde luego no merece de presentación alguna es DIO, la banda ligada al artista, uno de los grandes vocalistas, por aclamación popular e unánime, de esto del heavy metal, y además por méritos propios, dedicación y calidad continua, casi podríamos definir a este cantante como un ejemplo de darlo todo desde el principio al fin, de sus discos y de su carrera. Siempre ocurre además, que cuando el artista desaparece, cuandi¡o uno se da cuenta de que ya no va más, que todo lo que hay es lo que hay y que por desgracia ya no habrá más, todo toma una nueva dimensión y se aprecia más lo que fue Ronnie James Dio. El caso es que hoy quiero dejar en el blog un tema de su segundo LP bajo su nombre, DIO, "The Last In Line" de 1984, una obra claramente hija de su tiempo, e hija de sus músicos, y hablando de Dio es sinónimo, como decía más arriba, de calidad, de darlo todo al máximo nivel desde el minuto uno hasta el 41 en este caso, siempre acompañado por un acierto compositivo algo superior al ya espectacular debut del año anterior "Holy Diver". Destacable pues obra en total, de la que hoy quiero dejar en el blog la canción que da nombre a la misma, "The Last In Line", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Iced Earth - I Died For You

I  DIED  FOR  YOU

Nos encontramos en la década de los 90, un tiempo en el que la música iba cambiando, los estilos mutaban y en ocasiones casi desaparecían con solo un puñado de bandas que permanecían fieles a las viejas ideas. Desde luego, en muchos sentidos, el sonido metálico estaba en plena evolución y desde una perspectiva clásica eran tiempos duros. Sin embargo, también hubo grupos que crecieron en esos años, evolucionando su sonido para seguir hacia nuevos horizontes, Uno de esos grupos fue Iced Earth, quienes en 1996 editaban este su cuarto disco de estudio "The Dark Saga", con un cierto cambio compositivo algo más melódico si se quiere. Ya a estas alturas la banda gozaba de buen reconocimiento, que seguiría yendo a más por méritos propios. Hoy quiero dejar otra de las canciones de la banda perteneciente a este "The Dark Saga", una de sus "power ballads o medios tiempos" marca de la casa, "I Died For You", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Impellitteri - Stand In Line

STAND  IN  LINE

De nuevo los estadounidenses "Impellitteri" en el blog, con todo lo que ello implica, tanto para lo bueno, (que es mucho), como para lo malo, (algún detallito). De nuevo echo hoy la vista hacia los inicios de la banda, en concreto hacia su primer LP, tras el enorme debut en forma de EP de nombre igual al grupo, y del que ya he hablado en el blog. Para esta ocasión, "Stand in line" de 1988, el guitarrista había hecho cambios en la formación, dejando fuera a Rob Rock que volvería después, pero que en este disco sería sustituido por Graham Bonnet, de contrastada carrera y bastante inquieto, y que curiosamente tiene cierta tendencia a trabajar con reputados guitarristas con tendencia "Shred" tales como Yngwie, Steve Vai, Blackmore o Schenker, además del propio Chris Impellitteri entre otros. Nos encontramos ante un heavy hard, de corte americano y vocación Shred pero que no llega a ser algo demasiado exagerado, conociéndose, eso si, esa costumbre de subir y bajar por el mástil de la guitarra a toda velocidad a la mínima de cambio. firma inconfundible de Chris. Hoy, pues, quiero dejar una de las canciones de esta obra del 88, en concreto la que da nombre al disco, "Stand in line", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Zion - Who Pulls The Strings

WHO  PULLS  THE  STRINGS

Nos encontramos hoy ante otra de esas bandas que se crearon y desarrollaron en la década de los 80, teniendo una breve carrera sin demasiado apoyo ni reconocimiento y cesando en su actividad poco después. Como particularidad de este grupo estadounidense, "Zion", podemos englobarlo en el llamado "White Metal" por tener temática cristiana, y su estilo es un Hard Heavy, con dosis altas melódicas. Zion se crea en 1981 y se separa en 1992, aunque posteriormente han vuelto a juntarse desde 2004 sin sacar nada de material nuevo, eso si. Tardan en editar su primer y único LP "Thunder from the mountain" en 1989, que se nutre principalmente de las dos demos que sacaron en los primeros años de actividad. En general nos encontramos ante un grupo de calidad, una de esas bandas que por uno u otro motivo no llegaron a cuajar, sin que la calidad de sus músicos tuviese la culpa en absoluto. Canciones para una vida - Equilibrium - Unter Der Eiche

UNTER  DER  EICHE

Ahora que, a mediados del mes que viene, la banda alemana "Equilibrium" saca material nuevo de estudio, con un cierto volantazo estilístico, más teniendo en cuenta la trayectoria total contando desde sus inicios, de rescatar algún material de la discografía de categoría de la que puede presumir la banda. Y hoy, para mostrar esa calidad del grupo, que mejor que recuperar alguna de las canciones que aparecieron en la demo y posteriormente en el debut. Hablamos del año 2003, y de ese momento compositivo en que el grupo demostraba ese desparpajo y esa frescura que abrieron las puertas a la banda a la ocasión que sin duda ha sabido aprovechar. Canciones para una vida - Letchen Grey - Bring On The Night

BRING  ON  THE  NIGHT

 Letchen Grey fue una banda estadounidense, una vez más uno de esos grupos que apenas llegaron a dejar huella de su paso por la escena musical, y que, como en tantas otras ocasiones, sin embargo sí contaban con talento suficiente para haber alcanzado mayores cotas de popularidad siempre, claro está, que su carrera se hubiese alargado más. En este caso concreto, la producción musical que tubo la banda fue realmente escasa, con un solo EP de cinco temas, "Party Politics", publicado en 1986, que, sin embargo, ya sirvió para mostrar el potencial que atesoraban y que posteriormente no se plasmó en nada más. hablamos de una carrera musical entre el 82 y el 86, en un estilo entre el hard n' heavy y el heavy metal melódico,  y hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus temas editados, concretamente "Bring on the night", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Blind Guardian - Battalions Of Fear

BATTALIONS  OF  FEAR

Blind Guardian se encuentra en estos días dando los primeros detalles del que será un proyecto diferente tras el que llevan unos cuantos años y que parece que finalmente este 2019 será la fecha definitiva de su realización. Este proyecto no es otro que la salida de una obra sinfónica y orquestal titulada "Legacy of the dark lands" verá la luz el primero de noviembre. Es indudable que los pasos musicales distarán de los inicios de la banda, aunque cualquier noticia musical de Blind Guardian se antoja una excusa estupenda para recuperar material de su amplia discografía, y una vez más hoy quiero echar la mirada a los inicios del grupo, en concreto a su debut, "Battalions Of Fear", de 1988, del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog la canción que da nombre a la obra, de la que dejo un enlace a youtube. Blind Guardian, leyenda viva por méritos propios desde sus inicios.

Canciones para una vida - Light Force - Mystical Thieves

MYSTICAL  THIEVES

Como en tantas otras ocasiones, de la década de los ochenta traigo hoy al blog otra de esas bandas tan desconocidas como llenas de energía, ilusión y calidad, que por desgracia no llegaron a sacar demasiado la cabeza, siendo su carrera demasiado corta para lo que sus méritos compositivos hubiesen merecido. Esta banda de hoy, "Light Force" salía además de una escena no demasiado, por aquellos años, acostumbrada a dar bandas de este tipo, me refiero a la escena australiana, a mediados y finales de los 80 y a un estilo de heavy metal, proto power. Esta interesante banda tan solo editó en su carrera corta y accidentada, ya que tan solo se extendió entre los años 1985 y 1990, con un parón entre medias para retomar su carrera en 1987, un total de dos LP's, en el citado estilo de heavy metal power metal (de la época), incipiente aún estilo, y resulta más que interesante repasar su corta discografía. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una canción de su segundo álbum, y último, "Mystical Thieves" de 1989, en concreto la canción que da nombre a la obra, de la que dejo un enlace a youtube

Canciones para una vida - Testament - The New Order

THE  NEW  ORDER

Un nuevo repaso a la discografía de los estadounidenses "Testament", una de las bandas de "segunda oleada" del thrash que han ido con el tiempo cosechando un nombre grande y que habla por si mismo, apoyado en una sólida carrera desde el inicio, y con la calidad siempre como aliado, me lleva hoy a dejar en el blog un tema de uno de los disco de la parte inicial de su carrera que sirve bien para dejar claro que estos tíos tenían muy claro desde el principio a que querían sonar. Con un apoyo grande en la melodía a la hora de componer sus canciones, "Testament" se formo a mediados de los 80, y para 1988, (año de edición de este segundo álbum de la banda "The new order"), el grupo ya había dado sobradas razones para poner el foco sobre ellos en todas partes. Puede considerarse de hecho a esta segunda obra como uno de sus grandes discos, y de ella hoy quiero dejar en el blog el tema que da nombre a la obra, "The New Order", canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.
