Canciones para una vida - W.A.S.P. - Widowmaker

WIDOWMAKER

Otra banda a la que he ido acudiendo en varias ocasiones es W.A.S.P., por razones evidentes. Con una maracadísima personalidad tanto en lo compositivo como en lo estético, estamos ante uno de esos grupos "artistas totales" que han sabido desde el inicio de sus carreras buscarse un sitio propio y para siempre entre el resto de las bandas. Una vez más podemos encontrar en este grupo, como en tantos otros de renombre, gran parte de lo mejor de su discografía en los inicios de la misma, que en esta ocasión coincide también con la década de los ochenta. Una vez más, también, recurro a esta obra, "The last command", de 1985, su segundo LP que muestra sin duda alguno de sus mejores momentos, y muy en la onda de su debut del 84. Canciones para una vida - Saxon - Devil Rides Out

DEVIL  RIDES  OUT

Como siempre digo con este tipo de obras, tratandose de los grandes de verdad, de uno de los padres de esto del heavy metal en la época apropiada, siempre es un buen momento para escuchar y rescatar discos de este calibre, y muchas son las opciones a escoger entre un puñado de canciones si estas están compuestas con la calidad que, las premisas anteriores aseguran. Por eso hoy retorno una vez más a los británicos Saxon y a su "Innocence is no excuse" de 1985 para dejar el tema "Devil Rides Out" , otra de las canciones destacables de este disco, que, sin ser el mejor de la banda si que deja claro que estamos ante una de las bandas clásicas que se ha ganado una reputación por méritos propios. GODS  OF  THE  IRON

Esta es una de esas obras que expresan perfectamente el sentir de la escena metálica que en ese momento concreto, (1985) no hacía sino explotar y multiplicar sus subgéneros, evolucionando pero en todos los casos aún con la enorme carga de un sonido 100% genuino. Ya he hablado de este disco suficientes veces en el blog, y hoy solo quiero dejar otra de las canciones que conformaron este segundo disco de los alemanes Running Wild antes de que, temáticamente. se enrolasen en su particular mundo corsario que les ha acompañado el resto de su carrera. Disco magnífico y completamente recomendable en su totalidad del que hoy dejo la canción "Gods of the iron", de la que dejo un enlace a Youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Dark Wizard - Mortal Agony

MORTAL  AGONY

 Ya en alguna ocasión me he referido a la buena escena holandesa de la mitad de la década de los 80, y en esta ocasión quiero rescatar también a otra de las bandas que la poblaron. Se trata de "Dark Wizard", un grupo que cumplió sin duda los estandares de la época, con todos los rasgos esperables, desde un punto de vista estrictamente compositivo, pero también el lo que al desarrollo de su carrera se refiere. Y es que estamos ante heavy metal de la old school, y ante una banda hija de su época en lo que a su falta de consistencia se refiere, y quiero decir con ello que su carrera fue fugaz por completo, concretamente desde 1983 hasta 1986, con la edición tan solo de un EP en 1984 y un LP en el 85. Sus miembros no pueden relacionarse con bandas conocidas, sin embargo este era un rasgo muy generalizado en esa época de los 80 que daba a los grupos ese carácter auténtico que tan solo solía tener un "handicap" que radicaba en la producción de las obras que solía dejar que desear, más si lo comparamos con los "estandares" de hoy en día. Quiero dejar en el blog una de las canciones de su LP "Reign of evil" de 1985, en concreto la canción que abre la obra, "Mortal agony" toda una declaración de intenciones y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Drysill - Anthem For The Insane

ANTHEM  FOR  THE  INSANE

 Otra banda de esas que ilustra perfectamente la expansión y progresiva generalización que el sonido heavy tan acotado en sus inicios en pocas escenas del firmamento metálico, fue teniendo a medida que pasaban los años, y que para la mitad de la década de los 80 había alcanzado ya casi todos los rincones, sobre todo de Europa y América, pariendo bandas en lugares tan dispares como Islandia, caso de estos "Drysill" que hoy dejo en el blog. Por lo demás, este grupo cumple otros de los parámetros que no eran raros en las bandas de la época, una carrera corta, en muchas ocasiones de un solo álbum, (como es el caso), a pesar de que la calidad no fuese el problema en absoluto. Drysill se forma en 1983, editando como digo un solo álbum, "Welcome to the show" en 1985, tras la edición del cual la banda termina por separarse, entre otros motivos por la salida del vocalista Eirikur Hauksson, camino de "Artch", grupo del que ya he hablado en el blog. Estamos pues ante un sonido a heavy metal de la "Old school", crudo y directo, sin adornos, y con un sonido vocal, para quien no conozca las virtudes del cantante citado, un poco en la línea de Bruce Dickinson, (ahí es nada). Canciones para una vida - Gloryhammer - Hootsforce

HOOTSFORCE

Nuevo vistazo al tercer trabajo de los escoceses "Gloryhammer", "Legends from the galactic terrorvortex", del presente 2019, un disco, que tras una escucha detallada, no hace sino confirmar las espectativas, dentro del estilo escogido, muy en la línea de lo anteriormente publicado, pero que al mismo tiempo muestra un estancamiento que hace que pierda ese "punch" inicial que sobre todo cosechase con su primer LP "Tales from the kingdom of Fife", allá por 2013. Que no se me interprete mal, dentro de lo que hacen son absolutamente pulcros, con melodías enganchonas, pero con sorpresa cero respecto a lo que puede esperarse y sinceramente con temas con menos filo, en mi humilde opinión, a medida que avanza su carrera. De todas maneras, merece la pena darle unas escuchas a la obra que si hará disfrutar, a pesar de lo previsible, a los amantes del género power. Canciones para una vida - Majesty - We Are Legends

WE  ARE  LEGENDS

 El noveno disco de estudio de los alemanes Majesty promete algunas novedades con respecto al material que previamente ha ido conformando su discografía. Ya desde una simple cuestión física, estética, podemos ver una declaración de intenciones, desde el diseño del logo nuevo, pasando por la estética del cantante con corte de pelo incluido, y evidentemente el sonido de los adelantos que van saliendo, este "Legends" cuya salida oficial es inminente (28 de junio), parece un paso más en la carrera de la banda, ya veremos en que dirección terminan yendo, pero parecen dejar un poco atrás el concepto "true" un tanto clónico de Manowar para adentrarse en un sonido algo más moderno dentro del territorio del power, con más melodías de teclado, aunque siempre con ese barniz reconocible de Majesty, sobre todo en el tema al que me refiero hoy, y es que sea como sea hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de los adelantos del disco, concretamente "We are Legends", la canción que más me ha gustado de las que he escuchado de la obra y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Freedom Call - 111 The Number Of The Angels

111 - THE  NUMBER  OF  THE  ANGELS

 Ya están de vuelta los alemanes "Freedom Call" con su décimo ya disco de estudio, "M.E.T.A.L.", cuya salida oficial se espera para este próximo 23 de agosto, y del cual ya podemos disfrutar el primero de sus singles de adelanto, "111 - the numbre of the angels". Tres años han pasado desde la salida de su anterior material de estudio, y entre medias Chris Bay, guitarrista, cantante y teclista, además de motor principal, compositor y único miembro presente en todas y cada una de las obras de la banda, sacó material propio, sobre el que tampoco quiero hacer demasiada sangre, simplemente diré que no ha resultado de mi agrado, y, afortunadamente, tras dar salida a esa necesidad compositiva con material que no cabría para la banda Freedom Call, (algo que por otra parte tampoco me parece mal), afortunadamente, como digo, ha vuelto a la senda de nivel para lo que debe ser un disco de esta banda que tan bien acostumbrados tiene a los amantes de power de corte europeo. Canciones para una vida - Whitesnake - Heart Of Stone

HEART  OF  STONE

Whitesnake vuelve a sacar disco en la que puede considerarse como tercera época activa del grupo a lo largo de su ya gran trayectoria que abarca 5 décadas diferentes. Se trata de "Flesh and blood" , su décimo cuarto LP. Si algo ha caracterizado a este grupo ha sido la inestabilidad en la formación, con la figura de Coverdale como único nexo común a todas las épocas y todas las obras, y un desfile de nombres de músicos de primerísimo nivel a lo largo de la historia de la banda. Con un cambio también de estilo en los diferentes momentos de su vida, Whitesnake ha ido pasando del blues rock al hard rock, incluso rozando el hard heavy para volver atrás y adelante en dichas fórmulas compositivas, alcanzando en el punto citado más cercano al hard heavy su momento más exitoso, y en cierto modo es ese espíritu del álbum "1987" el que se está rememorando en los últimos discos de estudio de la banda, incluido este "Flesh and blood" de 2019 de la que hoy quiero dejar en el blog  una de sus canciones, concretamente "Heart of stone", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Majestica - The Legend

THE  LEGEND

La banda sueca Majestica edita bajo este nombre su primer LP, "Above the Sky" en este 2019, sin embargo no se le puede considerar como un grupo nuevo como tal, sino más bien como un cambio de nombre de una banda ya existente, en este caso "Reinxeed", un grupo con una larga trayectoria dentro del power metal, (6 LP's editados, y desde el año 2000) y aunque nunca haya sido un grupo de gran reconocimiento dentro de la escena internacional si que creo que han estado haciendo las cosas en la buena dirección mereciendo su carrera posiblemente una mejor suerte, que quizá estén buscando con esta maniobra, la de un cambio de nombre, no tanto de estilo, con la intención de encontrar nuevos estímulos y mayor repercusión. Sea como sea, está clara la declaración de intenciones con este primer disco salido a la venta el pasado 6 de junio, firmando por nulear blast, (en busca de mayor promoción sin duda), con un power sinfónico un tanto en el plan "Happy" de Freedom Call en ocasiones.  "The red baron" es ya el tercer single de adelanto de la nueva obra de estudio de los suecos "Sabaton", uno de esos grupos que a estas alturas no necesitan de ninguna presentación y que goza de una de las reputaciones más renombradas de toda la escena power internacional. Más de lo mismo, dentro de lo esperable, (dicho sea sin ningún matiz negativo), sonido ya considerable "Made in Sabaton", reconocible y sinónimo de calidad innegable tanto en lo compositivo como en temas de producción. Canciones para una vida - Elvenking - Under The Sign Of A Black Star

UNDER  THE  SIGN  OF  A  BLACK  STAR

Primer adelanto del que será ya décimo disco de estudio de los italianos "Elvenking" y que llevará por título "Reader of the runes Divination", que saldrá a la venta el próximo mes de agosto de manera oficial. A juzgar por lo escuchado en este primer single "Under the sign of a black star" vemos como la banda se perpetúa una vez más en su concepto compositivo, con un buen regusto a,los mejores momentos del grupo, que a mi entender ha pasado por alguna época menos lustrosa que otras, y que parece poco a poco recuperar el pulso de su mejor versión. RENEGADES  -  A  LOST  GENERATION

Primer adelanto de la que será la sexta obra de estudio de los alemanes "Equilibrium", uno de los grupos que en los últimos años han estado creciendo incesantemente y cuyo nombre ha sido desde los inicios sinónimo de calidad y de evolución compositiva con continuas innovaciones que en este nuevo capítulo de su discografía prometen ir aún un paso más allá, esperemos que no sea demasiado osado. De momento, y a tenor de lo escuchado en este primer adelanto sigue siendo reconocible el espíritu de "Equilibrium", eso sí, con ese trasfondo viquingo cada vez más diluido. Con incorporaciones nuevas para la ocasión, y por lo tanto alguna que otra baja en relación a su anterior obra, la calidad sigue intacta y no hace sino avivar en mí las ganas de escuchar todo el material nuevo de este "Renegades" cuya salida oficial se espera para el próximo 16 de agosto. WARNING  OF  DANGER

Otro clásico como Omen que ayuda a ilustrar lo que fue el inicio de esto del heavy metal, más concretamente en su versión estadounidense, de esa escuela que junto con la europea fueron impulsores de un sonido que con el tiempo acabaría por globalizarse aún más pero que tuvo en estas dos escuelas su principal motor. Ya he hablado de esta obra con anterioridad, "Warning of Danger", de 1985, el segundo LP de la banda, y hoy quiero dejar en el blog otra de las canciones destacables del mismo, concretamente el que da nombre a la obra, "Warning of danger", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube, Heavy metal americano de la vieja escuela, 100%.

MARCH  OF  THE  SAINT

Recuperando de nuevo la escena clásica estadounidense, quiero volver a traer al blog una obra de esas que no cansan, y que son un resumen perfecto en si mismas de como el sonido heavy metal de la vieja escuela es tan efectivo que no necesita de aderezos para gustar, y además envejecer de la mejor de las maneras posibles. La banda en esta ocasión es "Armored Saint" y su obra su LP debut "March Of The Saint" de 1984,de la que ya he hablado con anterioridad y de la que hoy quiero dejar otro de sus temas, concretamente la canción que da nombre al disco, "March Of The Saint", y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.
