GLORYHAMMER

Ya tenemos aquí el primer adelanto del que será el tercer LP de la banda "Gloryhammer", liderada por la figura de Christopher Bowes, de la banda escocesa Alestorm. Una de las virtudes compositivas de este grupo es esa sensación de continuidad entre uno y otro disco, que una vez más parece tener continuidad con este primer adelanto de la que será, como digo, tercera obra de la banda, "Legends from beyond the galactic terrorvortex" que verá la luz de manera oficial a finales del próximo mes de mayo del presente 2019. A juzgar por lo escuchado en este adelanto titulado "Gloryhammer" , más de lo mismo, con todas las virtudes de este power metal de manual que realiza esta banda, muy para los amantes del género, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Edguy - Deadmaker

DEADMAKER

Aunque se trata del segundo LP de la banda alemana Edguy, este "Kingdom Of Madness" de 1997 se puede considerar como la obra inicial ya que "Savage Poetry" puede considerarse más bien como una especie de Demo sobre todo en lo que a la calidad de grabación se refiere, algo a lo que pusieron remedio en 2000 con la reedición de la obra en cuarta posición cronológicamente hablando, ya como un LP en condiciones. En cualquier caso, en este "Kingdom of madness" nos encontramos con uns Edguy incipientes, con toda la ilusión por delante y muchos de sus rasgos caracterísicos que ya comenzaban a apreciarse, un potencial que empezaba a dejar ver la capacidad de la figura tras la banda, Tobias Sammet. Canciones para una vida - Axel Rudi Pell - Slaves On The Run

SLAVES  ON  THE  RUN

Con el sonido de esta banda, con el sello del alemán Axel Rudi Pell a la guitarra siempre es lo mismo, garantía de calidad, sonido predecible pero sin sentido negativo, pero desde luego si además hay algo que no se le puede negar al músico es la consistencia en lo que a material editado se refiere, y es que Axel es como un reloj de precisión, sacando material cada año o cada dos, ya sea LP nuevo, un recopilatorio de baladas, uno normal o un disco en vivo. Este 2019 será un disco de este último tipo, (directo) el que pondrá una X en su lista de años con material editado. "30 Anniversary live" verá la luz el próximo junio y recopila canciones de todas las obras de la banda en estos treinta años de historia y 14 LP's de estudio, incluyendo temas del último editado "Knights Call" del pasado 2018, del que dejo hoy una canción en el blog, "Slaves on the run" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube. 100% Axel Rudi Pell, como siempre.

Canciones para una vida - Pretty Maids - Die With Your Dreams

DIE  WITH  YOUR  DREAMS

El periodo medio y final de la década de los noventa fue un periodo de cambios en la escena metálica internacional, cambios en lo que a la evolución de los estilos se refiere, y fue además algo bastante uniforme, generalizado, con variaciones dentro de estilos establecidos, creación de otros nuevo que en realidad podrían ser considerados como evoluciones y mezclas, que en ese periodo concreto se dieron como digo con gran variedad. De esta forma, también el conocido hasta entonces como hard rock, o incluso hard heavy, comenzaban a alejarse del estereotipo estadounidense puro para acercarse más a un concepto europeo en ocasiones que mezclaba más elementos de heavy tradicional melódico más que con el concepto sureño o "bluesy" de las bandas yankees. Dentro de ese punto, terminaría por generarse lo que después se llamaría simplemente metal melódico o heavy metal melódico que puede agrupar ese sonido que tiene rasgos de aquí y allá, con elementos que pueden variar en lo que a dureza compositiva se refiere. Dentro de ese metal melódico podríamos incluir la evolución del sonido de los daneses Pretty Maids en esta época, con un uso de guitarras más pesadas. A comienzos de la década de los 90 el grupo estuvo a punto de separarse, y de hecho una buena parte de la banda dejo el grupo, sin embargo Atkins y Hammer dieron un nuevo enfoque continuando la historia del grupo. El punto más duro compositivamente se nota más a partir de este disco, "Spooked" del que hoy quiero dejar una de sus canciones en el blog, de 1997, y que suponía el séptimo LP de la banda, una gran obra de la que hoy quiero dejar la canción "Die with your dreams" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Velvet Viper - Eternally Onwards

ETERNALLY  ONWARDS

Hay bandas que son clásicos, unas conocidas y otras menos, y hay figuras de tras de esas bandas que son reconocidas y otras menos, Con velvet Viper, la banda alemana que hoy traigo al blog, nos encontramos ante un grupo que está en la línea de ese espíritu clásico, ya que la relación con ese punto viene a través de su cantante "Jutta Weinhold", la vocalista de Zed Yago, banda de la que ya he hablado en el blog. Cuando el grupo se separó, tan prematuramente a finales de los 80, parte de la banda, incluyendo la cantante formaron el grupo "Velvet Viper", que a la postre terminaría también teniendo una breve vida con un par de LP's en un par de años, y así, en 1992 cesaron su actividad hasta que Jutta lo resucitó en 2017 para darle una nueva ocasión. Es evidente que esta cantante es una de esas vocalistas que hablan musicalmente por si mismas, y eso pone de manifiesto lo triste de la no continuidad del grupo y que se separase tan temprano una vez más. Sin duda esa idea queda completamente patente escuchando el que es el tercer LP de la banda, "Respice Finem" de 2018, en la que esperemos que sea tan solo el inicio de la segunda fase de existencia de "Velvet Viper". Sabor clásico, encarnado en una de las voces femeninas del heavy metal clásico, seguramente no la mas reconocida, injustamente, pero si de las más reconocibles. Canciones para una vida - Kreator - People Of The Lie

PEOPLE  OF  THE  LIE

Volver a uno de los grandes grupos de un género determinado es siempre una buena idea, y en esta ocasión los elegidos de nuevo son Kreator, el estilo el Thrash y la época finales de los ochenta comienzos de los noventa, época de cambios en general en el heavy metal y en particular en este subgénero del thrash, una época en la que el thrash puro, el clásico comenzaba a cambiar tal y como lo habían ido desarrollando las bandas que lo hicieron grande, y los alemanes Kreator no fueron menos, sacando en 1990, su quinto disco de estudio y el último antes de flirtear con otro tipo de influencias. Es por todos practicamente defendido que en la carrera de Kreator el punto más alto alcanzado fue el de "Extreme Agression" de 1989, y este "Coma of Souls" del 90 llevaba a cuestas ya de entrada alcanzar ese nivelón tan aceptado por todos. Desde luego este quinto disco "Coma of souls" para nada se aleja de "Extreme agression" siendo un más que digno sustituto de aquel. Estabamos ante uno de los Kreator más engrasados, tras una gira total internacional, se encontraban en plena forma, compositiva y de auto confianza, y eso se nota en el disco, del que hoy quiero dejar una de sus canciones en el blog, la que personalmente más me gusta de la obra, "People of the lie", lo que podría resumirse en un ejemplo de como hacer una canción del subgénero, y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Queensryche - Empire

EMPIRE

Uno de los momentos álgidos dentro de la carrera de los estadounidenses Queensryche, sobre todo en lo referente también a ventas fue este "Empire" de 1990, la cuarta obra de estudio de la banda y la que llevaba consigo la difícil tarea de relevar a la impresionante "Operation mindcrime" de 1988. Con este disco, "Empire" encontramos a la banda en uno de sus momentos dulces, posiblemente uno de los últimos en conjunto, como obra total, que nos ofrecieron antes de tomar caminos un tanto más digamos diferentes, por no poner adjetivos más hirientes, el caso es que la banda daba algunos de los últimos pasos en una carrera que solo hizo aguas en adelante comparando de donde y como habían desarrollado los inicios de la misma. Empire, un disco redondo, nunca mejor dicho, perfecto, con una cierta evolución sonora pero en su justa medida que daba respuesta como digo al apoteósico culmen de su carrera Operation Mindcrime. De ella hoy quiero dejar uno de sus temas icónicos, el que daba nombre a la obra, "Empire", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Doro - Unholy Love

UNHOLY  LOVE

Como ya dije en el blog con anterioridad, tras la progresiva desbandada de miembros que se fueron marchando de Warlock, la cantante Doro Pesch termino por quedar como único miembro fundador de la misma, y así, en 1989 decidiría cambiar Warlock como nombre de la banda por Doro. Las mismas bases, la misma idea pero centrando la atención sobre su persona, algo que las discográficas terminaron por ver con buenos ojos dándole apoyo ante el potencial de venta, más allá de lo musical, de una figura como la de Doro, coronada por aquellos entonces como una de las indiscutibles reinas metálicas de la escena internacional. Si nos vamos más allá de eso, y mirando estrictamente lo musical, una cierta evolución compositiva pero en la onda de lo hecho con Warlock, aunque la banda, creada para ella hacía que el resto de los varios músicos que apareciesen figurasen como artistas invitados o músicos de sesión más que como miembros en si mismos de la banda. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una canción de la segunda obra de Doro, "Doro" de 1990, un disco en que queda patente lo dicho, compuesto para el lucimiento de la cantante, a base de varias versiones de otras bandas y con otros tantos temas propios, uno de ellos este "Unholy love", que abre la obra y que fue single de la misma, y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Black Ice - Heavy Metal Warriors

HEAVY  METAL  WARRIORS

 Otro de esos ejemplos de heavy metal de primer orden diluido en una saturada escena internacional en la década de las décadas por excelencia en lo que al heavy metal de la old school se refiere. Una vez más me refiero a la cantera estadounidense y una vez más a una banda de las que teniendo un innegable potencial se queda en el camino a las primeras de cambio, muy posiblemente por la razón citada más arriba de la saturación total de la escena internacional por aquellos entonces. El grupo, "Black Ice", se forma a comienzos de la década y se disolvería poco después de editar su único material, el EP "Hot 'n heavy" de 1986, del que hoy quiero dejar una de sus canciones en el blog. Heavy metal de la old school, con un toque hard heavy en algún momento de su obra, de la que hoy dejo la canción "Heavy metal warriors".

Canciones para una vida - Slayer - Seasons In The Abyss

SEASONS  IN  THE  ABYSS

La quinta obra de estudio de los estadounidenses Slayer se titula "Seasons in the abyss", un paso más en la carrera de la banda que terminaría por formar parte de los llamados cuatro grandes dentro del movimiento thrash, y que posiblemente aquí cerrasen una de las épocas más doradas dentro de su historia personal, muy acorde con esa leve decadencia del thrash más genuino que se daba con el cambio de decenio. Este quinto disco supone un paso más en la carrera de la banda, como decía más arriba, y si bien desde la publicación del tercer álbum de la banda "Reign in blood" del 86, los más puristas vieron un ligero descenso en lo que a acierto se refiere, si que es indudable que tanto el cuarto disco, "South of heaven", como este quinto "Seasons in the abyss", mantienen perfectamente bien el tipo de lo esperado sin recurrir al auto plagio, es decir manteniendo la originalidad. THE  BEAST

Una de las canciones que más me han gustado de la última obra editada por los alemanes "Primal Fear", ha sido "The Beast". Toda la obra en general me ha resultado un disco con más gancho que los anteriores LP's en los que veía una especie de estancamiento con respecto a lo que comenzó siendo un grupo lleno de personalidad. Siempre con ese espíritu Judas, el grupo continua en este "Apocalypse" en esa buena línea, y como digo, uno de los mejores ejemplos de esta citada nueva obra es "The Beast" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Metallica - Creeping Death

CREEPING  DEATH

"Creeping Death", es realmente el único single oficial que Metallica sacaría para promocionar el que sería su segundo, exitoso, y para muchos, (entre los que me incluyo), mejor LP de la banda, "Ride the lightning" de 1984. Hablamos de la época dorada de la banda, el material inicial que les hizo liderar el movimiento Thrash internacional siendo una banda de culto, entre otros motivos, por este álbum y su siguiente "Master Of puppets" del 86. Era uno de esos momentos en los que el grupo parecía tocado por una barita mágica, y la magnitud de toda la obra "Ride the lightning" así lo atestigua. Evidentemente es difícil descubrirle nada a nadie a estas alturas de esta banda, pero es siempre un buen momento para rescatar material de primera línea del grupo, y pocas canteras son mejores para excavar que "Ride the lightning", de la que hoy dejo este "Creeping Death" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Los alumnos aventajados de Orden Ogan, Thornbridge, vuelven a demostrar el tremendo potencial de su sonido power, siendo ya más, sin duda, una realidad que una promesa. Ya dejé uno de los temas de este segundo disco de estudio y hoy quiero dejar otra de sus canciones, "Demon In Your Heart", una canción que muestra todas las virtudes compositivas de este grupo que debería, por méritos propios llegar alto, una canción con un regusto al power europeo de la mejor época, con un toque casi Running wildesco, y desde luego con un sabor absolutamente Orden Ogan. Canciones para una vida - Warrior Path - Riders Of The Dragons

RIDERS  OF  THE  DRAGONS

Otra de las historias recurrentes en esto de la música, sobre todo en la nuestra, es la serie de oportunidades que surgen alrededor de un músico cuando este adquiere renombre, unas oportunidades que muy probablemente no se hubiesen dado de no haber sido así. En este caso ese músico al que me refiero es uno de los cantantes de moda en el panorama internacional, Yannis Papadopoulos quien ha alcanzado renombre ultimamente al formar parte de "Beast in Black", el proyecto tras "Battle Beast" de Kavanen, del que ya he hablado aquí. Pues bien, este músico. viendo el tirón ha comenzado en el tema colaborativo - proyectos, abalado sin duda por su portentosa voz. En esta ocasión el cantante griego ha unido fuerzas con compatriotas suyos, alguno de currículum destacable, como Bob Katsionis, guitarrista y teclista que ha formado parte entre otras de bandas de la talla de Firewind, Outloud, Revolution Renaissance o Serious Black, para comenzar este proyecto llamado "Warrior Path", en una onda estilística muy de heavy power, de sabor clásico y un tanto épico, muy en la onda de las bandas griegas e italianas. Hasta la fecha de esta reseña solo han editado un único LP, de título homónimo al nombre de la banda, y del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus temas, concretamente "Riders of the dragons", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Bleckhorn - Ragnarok

RAGNAROK

Este grupo, al que nuevamente me refiero hoy, ha despertado mucho mi curiosidad, tras la escucha de este EP, casi un adelanto de lo que pueda venir en un futuro en otro formato, en LP. De ser realmente un avance estilístico y compositivo de algo más. tengo muchas ganas de escuchar lo que sea que saquen y que este proyecto cuaje en algo duradero, por la calidad mostrada de momento. Otro buen ejemplo que ilustra lo que digo es esta canción, "Ragnarok", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.
