Vamos de nuevo con un poco del llamado epic metal de la escuela americana, que no deja de ser una suerte de heavy metal de corte clásico, desde la perspectiva compositiva de la escuela estadounidense, flirteando con el doom, esos ritmos cadenciosos y espesos, con ese trasfondo oscuro, siempre con espada y brujería como hilo argumental, salsa toda esta en la que la banda esradounidense "Smoulder" se desempeña a la perfección. Formados en 2013, tras su periodo en las catacumbas de las escenas locales, graban su primer LP en 2019, este "Times of obscene evil and wild daring" del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog su tema "The sword woman" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

EXECUTIONER

Hacía tiempo que le había perdido la pista a esta banda griega, a los que descubrí con su segundo LP "rise of the dragonrider" de 2012. Pertenecientes a esa enorme hornada de grupos de la escena griega que gustaban del heavy metal de corte épico, este grupo formado en 2004 verá en este 2025 como se publica su cuarto LP de estudio "The great awakening", concretamente el 18 de abril, y de él han dejado ya un adelanto del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog un enlace a youtube, lleva por título "Executioner", y va muy en la onda de su sonido tradicional.

Canciones para una vida - Trick Or Treat - Ghosted

 

GHOSTED

Más allá del impacto real que en una banda pueda tener en su sonido, el hecho de buscar un rol concreto, de buscar un marco argumental a largo plazo para una carrera musical creo que le facilita un poco las cosas al grupo dotándolo de un punto extra de personalidad y reconocimiento, los italianos "trick or treat" se han decantado por los Dibujos animados para encontrar esa inspiración, y ya se puede hablar de una carrera larga si tenemos en cuenta que comenzaron allá por 2002 con lo que por otro lado no deja de ser un power de corte europeo de buena factura  y producción. En este 2025 publicarán su nuevo album de estudio, "Ghosted", que verá la luz en el mes de abril y que supondrá su octavo LP, un disco del que dejan ya algún adelanto, como el tema que dará nombre a la obra y del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - The Storyteller - Break The Bounds

The Storyteller es ese tipo de bandas que deberían, teniendo en cuenta su caildad, haber tenido una carrera mucho más importante, mucho más llena, menos irregular, más constante porque todo lo que hace falta para hacer algo grande parece tenerlo el grupo con creces. Llevan ya una década de silencio desde su último LP de estudio, "Sacred Fire" de 2015, solo un single en 2023 rompió ese silencio, pero este 2025 será testigo de la publicación de su séptimo album "Final stand" que espero con ganas, hasta ese momento recupero hoy otra canción más de su penútimo album "Dark Legacy" de 2013, concretamente la canción "Break The bounds" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Mentalist - March On Legionnaire

MARCH  ON  LEGIONNAIRE

Tras un inicio de carrera casi fulgurante en lo referente al ritmo de grabación de obras, (tres discos en tres años, 20, 21 y 22), y claro está, respondiendo a un nivel alto de calidad, la banda germano sueca Mentalist, ha guardado silencio durante tres años desde su tercer LP para editar el cuarto "Earthbreaker", que verá la luz en este 2025, más concretamente el 11 de abril. Estamos ante un power, heavy metal melódico, con músicos experimentados de entre los que quizá pueda destacar Thomen Stauch, ex bateria de Blind Guardian. El primero de los adelantos de la nueva obra lleva por título "March On Legionnaire" y de él dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Stratovarius - Dreamspace

 

DREAMSPACE

"Dreamspace", de 1994, fue el tercer LP de estudio de los finlandeses Stratovarius y resulta importante por varios motivos para la banda, se trata de la última obra en la que Tolkki se encargaría de las voces, y es seguramente el primer disco que muestra con claridad hacia donde se encaminaría la carrera de la banda en el futuro, se antoja pues una pieza importante en su discografía por ello, y además de ser el punto de partida en lo que a éxito de masas se refiere del grupo, significaría poner en el mapa a Finlandia dentro del power, algo que luego ya sabemos todos como continuaría. Del disco se pueden destacar muchos momentos, uno de ellos, de los más evidentes es la canción que dio nombre a la obra y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

 EVIL  WARNING

Menudo debut de los brasileños Angra, un disco monumental en su conjunto, con momentos que son simplemente ya fundamentales en la historia sobre todo del power metal, y es que la obra llegaba en ese momento de cambio donde el power explotaría a nivel no solo europeo sino planetario, y los que encabezaron ese movimiento en el continente americano casi se podría decir que fueron Angra. Aquí, en este "Angels Cry" de 1993 nos encontramos con la versión más puramente power de la banda que después iría añadiendo y enriqueciendo su repertorio con nuevos elementos y enfoques más progresivos, enromes temas conforman esta obra de la que dejo hoy en el blog otro ejemplo, "Evil warning" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Yngwie Malmsteen - Faultline

 

FAULTLINE

Volvamos hoy a otro de los discos del guitarrista sueco Yngwie Malmsteen, en esta ocasión visitamos de nuevo su quinto LP de estudio "Eclipse" de 1990, con el gran Goran Edman a la voz, toda una garantía allá donde canta. En estas circunstancias no hay que olvidarse de en que años nos moviamos, lo complicado que era enfrentarse en esos años de cambio estilístico al gran público con conceptos clásicos, y claro, muchos optaron por cambiar su sonido para adaptarse a las exigencias del mercado, al final ellos viven de vender sus discos, el caso es que aquí hay guiños hard, Yngwie ya vivia en Estados Unidos, e imagino que su sonido se adaptaba a las circunstancias, sin embargo un ego del tamaño del de este músico no le permite cambiar demasiadas cosas de su guión y un solo de Yngwie es reconocible entre un millon de ellos. SET  THE  SAILS

2025 será testigo de la publicación del quinto LP de estudio de los alemanes "Storm Seeker", que llevará por título "Set the sails" y que verá la luz de manera oficial el 14 de marzo. La banda innegablemente va dando pasos adelante en su carrera y eso se nota en sus composiciones, algo que personalmente he notado mucho en su anterior trabajo "Nautic Force" de 2023. MIRROR  MIRROR

Muchas bandas presumen de ser grupos heavy pero es más un deseo que otra cosa, hay otras, como los británicos Def Leppard, que siempre renegaron de dicho sonido, y sin embargo "High 'n dry" de 1981 se antoja un autentico discazo de la NWOBHM, con seguramente los momento compositivos más contundentes de los británicos, es por ello que a uno siempre le da rabia que no hayan decidido desarrollar su carrera hacia esos derroteros, siempre respetando lo hecho por el grupo, pero algún disco más en esta magnífica onda habría sido de agradecer. Canciones para una vida - Manowar - Achilles Agony And Ecstasy, Parts 2,3,5

ACHILLES  AGONY  AND  ECSTASY  PART 2, 3, 5

Manowar es, ha sido y siempre será una banda de excesos, empezando por el exceso de testosterona, de ego, que les ha llevado a ser tan amados como odiados, la verdad es que esa actitud un tanto infantiloide lleva detrás auténticas obras como mínimo reseñables, si no fundamentales. En 1992 editaban su "Triumph Of Steel", otro de esos discos en lo personal importantes y también en su discografía, dificil su papel de sucesor de "Kings of metal", pero más que digno y donde la banda se quedó bien ancha metiendo una canción de casi media hora para abrir boca, lo dicho una banda de excesos. Es un tema con momentos increibles, una canción "Achilles agony and ecstasy in eight parts" que no tiene uno siempre el tiempo o las ganas de comerse entera, sobre todo las partes de batería que más bien solo deberían caber en un show en vivo, pero es bonito como mínimo recuperar las partes más épicas, que las hay y muchas, como este enlazado de la parte 2, 3 y 5, del que dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Judicator - Concord

 

CONCORD

Nueva obra a la vista para los estadounidenses Judicator, un grupo que ha ido poco a poco creciendo desde su debut en 2012. En principio el grupo despertó las miradas sobre todo por su parecido (más que nada en la parte vocal), con la banda alemana Blind Guardian, pero poco a poco se ha ido ganando el respeto y haciendose su propio hueco con su propuesta power un poco a medio camino entre la formula europea y la americana. En este 2025 editan su disco "Concord" (para el 28 de marzo), y de él dejan en estos días su adelanto "Concord" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Excess - Pull The Trigger

PULL  THE  TRIGGER

De las varias bandas que han escogido el nombre de Excess para desarrollar su carrera hoy quiero rescatar a la banda francesa, uno de esos grupos de vida breve, repercusión muy limitada y potencial innegable, por supuesto lo intentaron en los 80, se trata de un grupo formado en 1983 que apenas sobrevivió un década y que dejo solo dos trabajos en formato LP y uno en formato EP del que quiero hoy dejar en el blog una de sus canciones. Hablamos de un concepto compositivo clásico, heavy metal, un poquito a lo NWOBHM, por lo tanto muy de su época, y en 1992, editan ese trabjo en formato EP, que al final sería su último material publicado, "Shut up your face, open your eyes", con tres temas, el primero de ellos "Pull the trigger" del que dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Adamantis - Steelclad

 

STEELCLAD

Adamantis es un grupo estadounidense formado en 2016, que lleva publicados 1 LP y dos EP's en lo que llevan de carrera, pero que en este 2025 editarán su segundo larga duración, "Reforged" cuya salida oficial se espera para el 7 de marzo. Hablamos de los típicos tópicos del power metal clásico sobre todo de corte europeo, solo que estos lo practican desde el otro lado del Atlántico. Su sonido gusta de melodías que entran en tu cabeza, aunque el aire desde luego deja clara su escuela americana. Espada y brujería, fantasía o literatura acercan posturas también a la vertiente power europea, sin embargo el sonido se antoja un híbrido con personalidad propia. Canciones para una vida - Accept - Starlight

 

STARLIGHT

"Breaker" es la tercera obra de estudio de los alemanes Accept, y en lo personal uno de esos discos importantes en mi vida, uno de los primeros y a través de él Accept llegó a ser mi primera banda favorita. El disco es el punto de partida definitivo para la banda para alcanzar las altas cotas de popularidad merecida que alcanzaron, un disco que les puso sobre el mapa internacional, un disco de puro heavy metal en 1981, veloz lo que terminaría haciendo de su sonido en el futuro santo y seña, lleno de temas icónicos del grupo para sus directos y una indudable referencia para muchas otras bandas, muchas de ellas alemanas, pero también de muchos otros puntos del globo, Accept habían llegado para quedarse y crecer, para alumbrar el camino a quien quisiera seguirles, y lo hacían desde el comienzo de la obra, como queda claro a través del tema que la abre, "Starlight", del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.
